"I wore a tanktop once" is such a funny way to talk about my friends deciding I was a handyman but that really was it??
I found the way to trick ppl into thinking you know what you're doing is:
1 - wear tanktop while helping friends with a household project
2 - adopt Dad Stance (hands on hips while surveying the situation. bonus points if thats what you've trained yourself to do instead of the Autistic T-Rex Arms)
3 - (optional) look up wikihow articles ahead of time because you're anxious worried about looking stupid.
if you know one (1) thing nobody else thinks of, you will be designated the Local Expert. depending on the project, anything adjacent to this will also be assumed to be in your wheelhouse.
#in fairness to my friends i thought it was common sense to remove outlet plates before painting#and i have replaced my dryer vent hood and bathroom faucet now#and replaced the light outside our garage door#(its still broken but thats beside the point)#OH and i did figure out how to pull up the carpet abd replace ot with floating vinyl in the livingroom#wait fuck i might actually be a decent handyman hold up#AND made our porch kind of cat safe??#(we put up plastic chicken fencing so they couldnt jump without scaling the railing)#I also jerry rigged our bedroom's kickplate with a chunk of scrapwood when it refused to latch#im not counting that one too much though because it looks like ass and needs replacing still
