i'm getting emotional about caesar again [insert mandatory disclaimer here about how i don't like caesar or any of the things he stood for i simply find him fascinating as an historical figure and i recognise that he was a human being with thoughts and emotions and that very fact is profound to me as someone who studies the human past but once again i don't actually like him or the things he did because i'm not a peculiar right wing bumhole licker]

#it's just. it's the sculptures bro. they got to me again bro. it's always the fucking sculptures #when i first saw the chiaramonti caesar way back when i just had this Moment where i felt like i was staring into the eyes of a human being #very similar feeling to seeing that one portrait of senusret iii #it's like oh you were real. you're not just some made up dude from this textbook #all of these people were real and we'll never meet and you'll never know i exist but #it's like. something something touching hands from across the chasm of time #something something gazing upon the very same moon #god. whatever
