Malala Yousafzai (1997-Present) Female education activist & Awarded Noble Peace Prize in 2014

On July 12, 1997, Malala was born in Mingora, Pakistan to Ziauddin and Toor Perkai Yousafzai. Her father Ziauddin is an education activist and teacher, running a girls' school in their village located in Swat Valley until 2008 when the Taliban took over the town. The Taliban banned many things and even banned girls from attending school, Malala was just 11 years old. After this, she wrote a blog for the BBC Urdu detailing her experiences under Taliban occupation, which caught the attention of New York Times journalist Adam B. Ellick, who later made a documentary about her life and the state of Pakistan. This is only the beginning of Malala's activism, a few years later in 2012 a masked gunman attempted to assassinate her while she headed home on a bus after finishing an exam. He shot her in the left side of her head and was transported to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology and then the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, UK. While she recovered, Muslim clerics issued a fatwā against her, thankfully Malala and her family moved to the UK. The Taliban were internationally denounced by governments, feminist and human rights activist groups. Once she recovered, she founded the Malala Fund with her father. The Malala Fund is a non-profit organization that advocates for girls' education. She also received Pakistan's first National Youth Peace Prize. In 2013 she published her book I Am Malala, an international best seller, and won the Sakharov Prize.
In 2014, she was awarded the Noble Peace Prize at age 17, alongside Kailash Satyarthi from India (an activist against child labor) for her efforts with the Malala Fund and her general activism for girls' education. In 2015, she was in the Oscar-shortlisted documentary He Named Me Malala, and even was featured in the Time Magazine. She wrote a children's book in 2017 as well, on top of also becoming a UN Messenger of Peace the same year. In 2018 she studied Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at the University of Oxford, graduating in 2020. During her time in college, she traveled to multiple countries, including her hometown to share other girls' stories and cover issues outside of education such as period poverty, and even today more girls' experiences are being shared with the world. Malala's social media platforms are helping bring more awareness and action towards her cause. I would highly recommend checking out her Twitter, Instagram, and Tiktok, as these platforms are very active and provide a better insight into other girls' experiences, what she has achieved, and why it is worth fighting for the nearly 130 million girls who cannot have an education today.
Malala has achieved so many things in her life so far, it truly is incredible how the Malala Fund has come to having over $22 million dollars in donations and helping girls in 8 countries. She has done an incredible amount of work advocating for women and girls all across the world. There is still a lot of work to be done, but Malala and so many others will continue to advocate and fight for girls and women's rights.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting of Lahore Central Business District Development Authority at his office to review the progress. The meeting was attended by Housing Minister Asad Khokhar, chief secretary, SMBR, secretary housing, chairman P&D, finance secretary, commissioner Lahore, SMU head and others.
At the outset, the CM termed this project as a flagship initiative of the PTI government which is planned at the prime location of the city over an area of 125 acres. This project will boost trade and economic activities while creating job opportunities; he added and directed to expedite the project work. The CM said that this project is very attractive for foreign investors and there is a need to effectively showcase it before the foreign investors. This project will also be showcased at Dubai Expo, he added.
CEO Lahore Central Business District Development Authority Imran Amin informed that an 8-acre piece of land of this project has been sold at a record price of Rs. 22 billion which is 165 per cent more than the reserve price.

The new Vice-Chairman of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab Makhdoom Tariq Mahmood-ul-Hassan called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office on Wednesday.
The CM expressed good wishes and directed to resolve the problems of the expatriate Pakistanis on a priority basis. The Pakistanis living aboard are a national asset and their services in national development cannot be ignored, he continued. The government has devised a composite policy to resolve the problems of the expatriate Pakistanis and protection of their rights and properties will be fully ensured, the CM stressed. The principal secretary to CM was also present.

A DELEGATION OF THE NATIONAL COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN CALLS ON CM PUNJAB
Lahore, September 22:
A delegation of the National Commission on the Status of Women led by its chairperson Nelofar Bakhtiar called on Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar at his office on Wednesday and discussed matters of mutual interest.
The CM apprised the delegation about the steps taken for socio-economic empowerment of the womenfolk adding that 18 women workers hostels and 1221 daycare centres have been established across Punjab. Similarly, women development centres have also been established in universities for career planning and capacity building in addition to starting online training programmes for the women, he continued. Meanwhile, a helpline facility is provided to give necessary legal guidance for the solution of women related problems, he said. The government has also strengthened the Violence Against Women Center in Multan and such facilities will also be established in Rawalpindi and other districts to provide prompt institutional support to the women in need, he said.
The CM assured that the chairperson of the Punjab Commission on the Status of Women will be appointed soon and the government will also review resolving women related problems through a joint platform. I regularly review the problems of women detainees during field visits and the government is committed to providing facilities to prisoners through holistic reforms, he told. In this regard, necessary amendments will also be introduced to revamp the outdated system; the CM maintained and asserted that any mistreatment of the women prisoners will not be tolerated. The CM directed Nelofar Bakhtiar and members of the commission to visit different jails. The PTI government is the custodian of the rights of women which are around half of the population, he observed. It has taken practical steps in this regard instead of making tall claims, he maintained. It is committed to giving equal rights as no society can progress without practical participation of the womenfolk in the national development process, the CM observed. The government has also taken steps to protect women in public places and strict action has been taken against the incidents of harassment. The harassers do not reserve any leniency; he maintained and added that respect given to womenfolk in Quran and Sunnah is a guiding principle for all of us. The Punjab government will fully support the National Commission on the Status of Women, he added.
Nelofar Bakhtiar appreciated the steps taken by the Punjab government and stated that practical work has been done in Punjab to provide facilities to women inmates in jails.
