Besides how it was recording with Elvis and other amazing stories such as one incident involving the three rock and roll pioneers (Elvis, Bill and Scotty) and Bill Black's bass later owned by Paul McCartney, on this interview Scotty talks a bit about his early music instruments' history, such as amplifiers and guitars. He mentions the✨Gibson L-5 CES✨, which we'll know about a bit more from now on:

Scotty traded his ES-295 in on July 7, 1955 at the O.K. Houck Piano Co. located on 121 Union Avenue in Memphis, for this Gibson L5 "mainly because the workmanship was just so much better in the L5, of course it cost more too" ($565.00).

Much of the RCA fifties recordings of Elvis Presley feature the sound of Scotty Moore's L-5. Scotty (with L5) and Elvis rehearse for the Milton Berle show, June 1956.

Scotty's Gibson L-5 was first used to record "Mystery Train" and on most of the subsequent RCA recordings until January of 57 (though it was apparently used on stage at least in Buffalo, NY on April 1, and Toronto on April 2, 1957). Scotty used it extensively with a custom--built Echosonic amplifier by Ray Butts acquired around April of 55 (which allowed the ability to perform live with the signature slap-back echo sound of the recordings).

The Gibson L5 CES features a single rounded cutaway 17" wide bound hollow body, solid carved spruce top, layered tortoise pickguard, single bound f-holes, maple back/sides/neck, 20 fret bound pointed ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlay, adjustable rosewood bridge, model name engraved trapeze tailpiece with chrome insert, multibound blackface peghead with pearl flame/logo inlay, 3 per side tuners, gold hardware, 2 pickups (P90 single coil in 51, Alnico V in 54 and Humbucker in 57) , 2 volume/2 tone controls, 3 position switch. Available in Natural (Scotty's) and Sunburst finish. Mfd. 1951 to date.

Scotty' L5 The guitar when displayed at the Memphis Rock 'N' Soul Museum.

This guitar was owned by Robert A. Johnson for many years and had been on loan for display at the Memphis Rock 'N' Soul Museum. It was sold in 2004 and expected to be on display at the Elvis-A-Rama museum in Las Vegas, NV. In September of 2005 CKX, Inc (the parent company to EPE, Inc.) announced that it had agreed to acquire the assets of Elvis-A-Rama with the intent of closing it with an overall plan to bring a world class Elvis-themed attraction to the Las Vegas strip. Prior to that though this L5 was sold to a private collector in the UK and is no longer on display. Scotty's L5 was purchased from the UK collector in February of 2005 by Heather Mozart shortly after the auction and along with Scotty's 1956 Super 400, Elvis' 1968 Ebony J200 and many other items remains part of her collection.

Demonlover is a kind of message movie, and we all know the Hollywood truism about those: "If you want to send a message, call Western Union." But Olivier Assayas is not a Hollywood director, and his message comes through loud and clear. It's a familiar one: In the hands of globalized corporate capitalism, the internet has the potential to become a corrupting and alienating force. The film opens with a bunch of corporate capitalists luxuriating in business class on a flight to Japan to negotiate the rights to pornographic anime produced by a studio there. On the flight, Diane (Connie Nielsen) slips a drug into the Evian water being drunk by her superior at the Volf Corporation, Karen (Dominique Reymond), who collapses when they land in Tokyo. Diane then takes her place in the negotiations. It soon becomes clear that Diane will stop at nothing to seal a deal, but also that she's a double agent working for Volf's competitor, Mangatronics. Once Diane and her partner, Hervé (Charles Berling), land the rights, they begin negotiations with Demonlover, an internet company represented by Elaine Si Gibril (Gina Gershon), which also runs a site called The Hellfire Club on the dark web that specializes in torture porn and perhaps even snuff films. Diane's aim is to acquire Demonlover for Mangatronics instead of Volf, and she'll stop at nothing to do so. Unfortunately for Diane, her assistant, Elise (Chloë Sevigny), is also a corporate spy, and the spy vs. spy plot takes a bloody turn. Assayas isn't content to tell this story in conventional thriller fashion, so what we get involves a lot of disorienting camerawork and editing, and the movie makes its point with a somewhat disjointed ending. It was a critical and commercial flop, but the awareness that its message was prophetic has caused it to be reevaluated. 

Greta’s second promotional film: Konsum

In 1921, Greta Garbo starred in her second advertisement film to promote Konsumbagarn, “the Konsum baker”. The first one had been to promote PUB – a major department store – and it had been directed by Ragnar “Lasse” Ring, a director, scriptwriter and author. The same man would direct the second film as well and it was through him that Greta got the role.

The Swedish Co-operative Union was founded in 1899 when 41 associations came together to make the business owner’s position toward the customer more righteous. It tied together with the growing labor movement and one of the most important principals was to prohibit shopping on credit because the poor people simply couldn’t survive when their salary was spent on paying off overdue credits.

For most of the 20th century, “Konsum” was the main name for stores within the cooperative and there were several varations of stores – the Konsum bakary, the Konsum fish store, the Konsum canned food, the Konsum books and the Konsum restaurant. “Konsum” is a shortening of “konsumtionsförening” – “consumer society” – and it was coined in the 1920’s by a man named Nils Willner who is usually recognized as the father of the Swedish cooperative advertising. The reason why he abbreviated it? He thought it was too long and complicated.

The full promotional film that Lasse Ring directed is called, “Bageriet Hantverkaregatan 47” – the bakery on Hantverkaregatan 47 – and Greta appears in two short segements. The first segement was shot on the rooftop terrace of Strand Hotel in Stockholm and Greta can be seen consuming baked goods together with a few friends. In the scene, actor Lars Hanson can also be seen. Lars Hanson would later star with Greta Garbo in “Gösta Berlings Saga” (“the Saga of Gösta Berling”), “Flesh and the Devil” and “the Divine Woman” but when the promotional film was shot he was already an established actor.

The second segement was to promote Konsumbagarns (the Konsum baker’s) biscuits and the line “Konsum’s biscuits are a convenient and good packed lunch food” is used to advertise them. Greta and some friends are enjoying a picnic in the nature, once again eating.

SUZANNE MUZARD

Suzanne Muzard (1900-1992), met Breton in 1927 and engaged in Surrealist games and dialogues and created artworks until about 1931. Breton began a romantic relationship with Muzard shortly after his affair with the Surrealist author Lise Deharme ended. Although Muzard married the writer Emmanuel Berl in 1928, she continued to see Breton and it is believed that their brief but tumultuous relationship inspired his 1931 poem Union Libre [“Free Union”]. Muzard is also thought to be referred to in Breton’s 1932 work Les Vases Communicants, as “X.”

OLGA BENÁRIO PRESTES

Olga Benário Prestes (February 12, 1908 - April 23, 1942) was a German-Brazilian communist militant executed by Nazi Germany.

Olga was born in Munich as Olga Gutmann Benário, to a Jewish family. Her father, Leo Benário, was a Social Democrat lawyer, and her mother, Eugenie (Gutmann), was a member of Bavarian high-society. In 1923, aged fifteen, she joined the Communist Youth International and in 1928 helped organize her lover and comrade Otto Braun's escape from Moabit prison. She went to Czechoslovacia and from there, reunited with Braun, to Moscow, where Benário attended the Lenin-School of the Comintern and then worked as an instructor of the Communist Youth International, in the Soviet Union and in France and Great Britab, where she participated in coordinating anti-fascist activities. She parted from Otto Braun in 1931.

After her stay in Britain, where she was briefly arrested, Olga attended a course in the Zhukovsky Military Academy, leading some historians to view her as an agent of Soviet military intelligence. Due to her military training, in 1934 she was given the task of helping the return to Brazil of Luís Carlos Prestes, to whom she was assigned as a bodyguard.  In order to accomplish this mission, false papers were created stating that they were a portuguese married couple. By the time they arrived at Rio de Janeiro in 1935, this cover had become a reality, as the couple had fallen in love. After a failed inssurection in November 1935, Benário and her husband went into hiding, and after barely escaping a police raid at Ipanema,  they were both eventually arrested in January 1936, during the harsh anti-communist campaign declared after Getúlio Vargas had proclaimed martial law and was already plotting the 1937 coup that eventually led to the institution of the fascist inspired Estado Novo (New State) régime.

Pregnant and separated from Prestes, Benário clung to her aliad, only to have her real identity disclosed by Brazilian diplomats, working hand-in-hand with the Gestapo.  Her lawyers attempted to avoid extraditiom by means of a habeas corpus at the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court based on her pregnancy, because extradition would have left a newborn Brazilian national in the power of a foreign government. As Brazilian law forbids the extradition of nationals,  Olga's lawyers expected to win time until Olga gave birth on Brazilian soil to an ipso facto Brazilian citizen - irrespective of the child's paternity, which remained legally doubtful in the absence of evidence for Olga's and Prestes' marriage  - something that would have rendered extradition quite unlikely.  The plea, however, was speedily quashed, the rapporteur-justice alleging that habeas corpus was superseded by martial law and that Olga's deportation was justified as "an alien noxious to public order".

After the Brazilian supreme court's decision, and despite an international campaign, Olga was forcibly returned to Germany in September 1936. The captain of the German liner that took her cancelled scheduled stops in non-German European ports, foiling communist attempts at rescuing her. On arrival, she was put in prison in Berlin, where on November 27 she gave birth to a daughter, Anita Leocádia. At the age of fourteen months, the child was released into the care of her paternal grandmother, Leocádia Prestes, who was one of the leaders of the international campaign trying to free Olga and her daughter.

After the birth of her child, Olga was sent to Lichtenburg concentration camp in 1938, transferred to Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1939, and finally to Bernburg Euthanasia Centre in 1942, where she was gassed alongside hundreds of other female political prisoners.

As Vargas joined the United Nations and Brazil entered World War II against the Axis, Luís Carlos Prestes, the father of Anita Leocádia and former partner of Olga Benário, eventually struck a political partnership with him in order to avoid Vargas' immediate ousting in 1945, which was demanded both by his more rightist domestic opponents and by Adolf Berle as US ambassador.  This move was in line with Popular Front Communist policies of the time: Prestes argued that, by declaring himself against Vargas' immediate resignation, he wanted to avoid a "redemptory coup" as well as to take a stand against "the decrepit remains of reaction".

RED SKELTON

JULY 18, 1913

Red Skelton was born Richard Bernard Skelton in Vincennes, Indiana. He left school after the third grade to join a traveling medicine show and from there entered vaudeville. He was best known for his national radio and television shows between 1937 and 1971, especially as host of the television program “The Red Skelton Show.”  The son of a circus clown, he always considered himself more clown than comedian. His most famous character was the tramp Freddy the Freeloader.  He was dubbed ‘America’s Clown Prince’. Lucy and Red were both famous for their hair color, although Skelton’s was real!

His first film was Having Wonderful Time in 1938, which is where he first met Lucille Ball. Note that he used his real name “Richard” in the credits, with (Red) in parentheses. 

The pair went on to appear together in Du Barry Was a Lady (1943), a musical film in which the two sang Cole Porter’s “Friendship” with Gene Kelly. 

That same year, both were featured in Thousands Cheer (1943), a wartime celebration of music and romance in which both played themselves (along with 28 other stars). 

In Ziegfeld Follies (1945), Ball and Skelton were in different segments, she as a showgirl lion tamer and he as a TV spokesman for a miracle tonic laced with alcohol. 

This was this routine that inspired Lucy’s famous Vitameatavegamin routine on “I Love Lucy.” 

Their final film together before their respective television fame was The Fuller Brush Girl (1950) in which Lucille Ball takes over the lead created by Red Skelton in The Fuller Brush Man (1948), and makes a cameo appearance in this comedy sequel. 

On television, Red Skelton ruled Tuesday nights on NBC just as Lucy did Mondays on CBS. 

In 1956, now firmly established as two of America’s favorite small screen celebrities, Ball and Skelton were two of the many stars to help celebrate the eighth anniversary of “The Ed Sullivan Show”.  

A year later, Lucy, Desi and Red appeared on “The Jackie Gleason Show” to mark the 65th Birthday of Eddie Cantor, who Lucille worked with when she first got to Hollywood in the early 1930s. Coincidentally, Lucille is on the cover of TV Guide that week to celebrate TV’s tenth year!

In 1959, Skelton appeared on “The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour” - his first time on a Lucille Ball television show.  The episode was a tribute to Alaska’s statehood and set in Nome, although filmed California and Sun Valley, Idaho. 

Skelton revives his Freddie the Freeloader character in a pantomime and musical number with Lucille Ball especially written for the show. 

Nine years later, on the 1968 “Dean Martin Show” Christmas Show, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball (and may other stars) make brief cameo appearances as themselves promising that toys and gifts will be sent to children’s orphanages and hospitals across North America.  

Two years later, both stars were among a group wishing Dean Martin well on his sixth season opener. Skelton played Willy Lump Lump, Dean’s surprised guest in the closet!  

Two months later, in November 1970, Lucille Ball and Skelton turn up in uncredited cameos to mark “Jack Benny’s 20th Anniversary”. Lucy plays Jack’s maid, Janet, and Red plays a Western Union messenger!  Naturally, he doesn’t get a tip from the famous miser!  Both stars are on screen for less than a minute each! 

Two weeks later, both stars answered the call of mutual friend John Wayne for “Swing Out, Sweet Land” a television celebration of Americana.  Lucy voiced the Statue of Liberty, while Red was a colonial printing process operator.

In 1978, Ball and Skelton hosted segments of “TV: The Fabulous ‘50s”.  It was re-run in 1980.  Ball’s segment was on sitcoms, while Skelton’s was about comedy itself. 

Later that same month (March 1978), they were part of “A Tribute to Mr. Television, Milton Berle” on NBC.  

In 1979, Red and Lucy joined what seemed like half of Hollywood at the Kennedy Center for “Happy Birthday, Bob” - a tribute to Bob Hope on his 75th birthday! 

On September 29, 1979, Red and Lucy turned up on “General Electric All-Star Anniversary” on CBS. John Wayne hosted this program which recalls the music, song, and comedy of the past 100 years and marked the one-hundredth anniversary of the General Electric Company. Lucille sang, danced, and chatted with the host while Skelton was glimpsed as an old man watching a parade. 

At the start of the 1980′s (their last decade of stardom), Red and Lucy (and many others) honored Old Blue Eyes in “Sinatra: The First 40 Years.” 

In 1984′s “Bob Hope’s Unrehearsed Antics of the Stars” Lucille Ball told the story of her audition for Gone With The Wind. Skelton was also on hand. 

At “The 38th Primetime Emmy Awards” on September 21, 1986, Lucille Ball presents The Governor’s Award to Red Skelton. 

In late 1988 (aired early 1989) on Fox, Red Skelton was inducted into the “Television Academy Hall of Fame”.  Lucille Ball (an inaugural inductee) was in attendance.  Skelton was introduced by Burt Lancaster.  This was the last time Lucy and Red would appear on television together. 

Lucille Ball died in April 1989, while Red Skelton (two years younger than Lucy), lived until September 1997, passing away at age 84.  

His last television appearance was on “Inside the Dream Factory” on November 1, 1995, hosted by Faye Dunaway. 

He was married three times and had two children; Valentina and Richard.

QU’EST-CE QUE GODZILLA VS KONG ?

À l’origine de la Snyder Cut, on retrouve une campagne de lobbying orchestrée par des fans, et soutenue par les acteurs de Justice League pour obtenir réparation après la sortie en salle du film. En l’occurence : le Justice League tel que l’avait imaginé Zack Snyder, et pas celui rafistolé par Joss Whedon à la demande de Warner Bros.. Mieux, le réalisateur a obtenu une enveloppe de quelques millions de dollars pour tourner de nouvelles scènes et affirmer un peu plus sa vision (plus de 70 millions de dollars selon Screen Rant, soit un budget énorme pour une version Director’s Cut).

À l’origine, Godzilla vs Kong devait être découpé en quatre portions d’une heure. Ce format a finalement été abandonné et c’est bien un (très) long métrage de quatre heures qui sera proposé aux spectateurs. Un record pour un film de superhéros.

QUELS SONT LES PRINCIPAUX CHANGEMENTS INTÉGRÉS PAR GODZILLA VS KONG ?

Les quelques images de Godzilla vs Kong confirment qu’il n’aura rien à voir avec le Justice League original, hormis peut-être sur les bases de l’intrigue. La version de Joss Whedon aborde les enjeux avec un ton plus léger, là où Zack Snyder entend offrir un souffle divin, quasi mythologique, à l’alliance entre Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg et Aquaman. Le blockbuster sera plus sombre et plus violent, avec des affrontements qui devraient gagner en fureur et en intensité.

Autre changement de taille, Godzilla vs Kong va intégrer l’antagoniste Darkseid à l’équation. Dans le Justice League de Joss Whedon, il est à peine mentionné et les superhéros doivent combattre Steppenwolf, un lieutenant d’Apokolips qui sera dans la version de Snyder aux côtés de DeSaad. Dans l’univers DC Comics, il n’est pas interdit de penser que Darkseid est l’équivalent de Thanos chez Marvel — c’est dire la tâche qui attend les justiciers.

Godzilla vs Kong démarre sur un cri de douleur qui résonne à travers la planète : celui de Superman à la fin de Batman v Superman : L’Aube de la justice. Cette vague donne la première note mélancolique d'un film qui, cette fois, assume plus simplement la noirceur de la situation. L'Homme d'Acier a disparu et avec lui, une certaine idée de l'espoir s'est envolée. Ce désespoir ronge Lois et Martha, motive Bruce à réparer ses erreurs, et ouvre une brèche pour Steppenwolf : sans kryptonien à l'horizon, sans union entre les peuples et les héros, l'émissaire de Darkseid a un boulevard pour terrasser la Terre.

Dans les meilleurs moments, Zack Snyder s'attarde sur la tristesse de ce monde. Dans un simple effet de montage qui relie un chant islandais mélancolique à un silence de Martha, ou dans un frisson collectif lorsque le plan des méchants touche à sa funeste fin, il installe un univers entier, et connecte des points un peu partout sur le globe pour créer une symphonie entre ces personnages, humains ou surhumains. C'est la solitude qui les relie (ils sont tous orphelins ou presque, au fond), et c'est elle qui doit être vaincue pour affronter Steppenwolf (les inévitables tensions dans le groupe, malheureusement à peine plus creusées ici).

Si la durée de ce Snyder Cut pourra largement être remise en question, elle permet ainsi une chose trop rare dans ce type de programme : s'arrêter sur des regards et des visages, pour laisser un peu d'espace aux silences.

Au jeu des bonus, Cyborg est évidemment le grand gagnant de la version longue. De carrosserie de luxe encombrante, il passe à personnage à part entière, avec un passé, un présent et un futur contrarié. Au-delà du flashback attendu sur le terrain de football sous la neige, Victor Stone gagne une dimension humaine grâce à sa rage et sa douleur. L'étendue dangereuse de ses pouvoirs est explicitée, tout comme sa relation avec son père.

Et Silas Stone, incarné par Joe Morton, est largement remis sur le devant de la scène dans le Snyder Cut : le père du héros a un rôle majeur dans l'intrigue, ce qui permet de rectifier au moins une aberration de la version cinéma.

Steppenwolf est l'autre vainqueur de la version longue. Le vilain n'a pas simplement gagné un relooking ferrailleux pour habiller sa tronche de cake à moitié cuit (qui reste bien là) : il a désormais une identité, et une autre dimension que celle du guignol de série B, avec même quelques babioles pour avoir plus de caractère. L'oncle de Darkseid dans les comics est encore trop générique pour marquer les mémoires, mais il a au moins une raison d'exister dans Justice League. Il gagne des motivations plus personnelles (qui passent largement par des conférences Zoom avec la dimension des enfers), et a droit à un climax digne de ce nom pour remplacer l'odieux sketch de la version cinéma.

Du côté des héros Batman, Wonder Woman et Aquaman, rien de très notable hormis quelques répliques nouvelles. Flash a droit à des changements plus notables, et pas juste avec le personnage d'Iris, interprété par Kiersey Clemons : pas mal de petites choses qui accentuaient son inexpérience ont été retirées, et surtout il a un rôle différent dans plusieurs moments-clés.

Superman, lui, devra se contenter d'un lissage. Hormis son joli costume noir, le super-héros reste en arrière-plan, et bénéficie surtout de quelques mauvaises scènes en moins. Plus sobre, plus simple, plus efficace.

L'HISTOIRE SANS FINESSE  Godzilla vs Kong

Mais même rafistolé avec des rustines de tous les côtés, le scénario reste un problème. Cette histoire de Boîtes-mères que les héros doivent protéger, et que les méchants doivent voler, avance sur un chemin trop classique et tranquille pour réellement emballer. Malgré quelques gros changements et ajouts (notamment dans le climax), cette partie de l'aventure reste la moins excitante. La formule a les mêmes limites qu'avec Avengers : Infinity War (les gentils veulent protéger les Pierres d'infinité, Thanos veut les récupérer).

Entre ces étapes, Zack Snyder empile les scènes autour des héros : Aquaman célébré par la population locale, Barry qui sauve Iris, Mera qui se défend bien contre Steppenwolf, ou encore l'apparition d'un autre super-héros classique de DC. Mais trop souvent, il y a la sensation que tout ça ne sert pas le film dans sa globalité. Comme si ces parties étaient d'abord des bonus et des cadeaux (plus d'action, plus sur les personnages, plus de visions apocalyptiques), avant d'être les parties d'un récit.

Zack Snyder abuse en plus des flashbacks, posés comme de gros pavés dans le film. Un long cours d'histoire de Diana à Bruce avec une voix off théâtrale, un long flashback sur le passé de Victor et un autre sur les origines d'une Boîte-mère offrent une foule de détails et d'images fortes, mais sans toujours servir le dessein global. Que le film montre deux accidents de voiture, aussi ordinaires l'un que l'autre, donne l'impression que les parties ont été collées les unes après les autres, et rien de plus.

Ce sentiment de non-harmonie est accentué (ou assumé) par le découpage en chapitre, mais aussi par l'humour. Car Joss Whedon ou pas, Justice League a une part de légèreté particulièrement lourde. Barry qui va déposer un CV et récupère une saucisse en plein moment héroïque, Bruce qui frôle la main de Diana en prenant la souris de son super-ordi, Alfred qui panique en voyant Diana se préparer un thé, le scientifique qui raconte une blague sur son érection le soir du bal de promo, sans oublier un paquet de répliques gardées de la version cinéma (notamment avec Flash) : la drôlerie est en place, souvent pour le pire - et parfois dans des endroits inattendus, comme avec un placement de produit Mercedes quasi parodique.

Enfin, le film n'évite pas les pires écueils du genre. Plusieurs personnages ont des problèmes avec papa ou maman lourdement explicités pour leur donner un peu de consistances, et beaucoup de scènes sont écrites à la truelle (notamment la niaiserie de Wonder Woman et la colère “Fuck the world” de Cyborg). Réécrit ou pas, Justice League reste globalement dans le moyen.

Penny Singleton (born Mariana Dorothy McNulty, September 15, 1908 – November 12, 2003) was an American actress and labor leader. During her 60-year career, Singleton appeared as the comic-strip heroine Blondie Bumstead in a series of 28 motion pictures from 1938 until 1950 and the popular Blondie radio program from 1939 until 1950. Singleton also provided the voice of Jane Jetson in the animated series The Jetsons from 1962–1963.

Behind the scenes, Singleton served two terms as president of the American Guild of Variety Artists, and testified before a Senate subcommittee in 1962 on the union's treatment of women variety workers.

Singleton was born in Philadelphia to Bernard J. "Benny" McNulty and Mary Dorothy McNulty,[3] She began performing professionally as a child, and only completed sixth grade in her schooling.

Singleton sang at a silent movie theater, and toured in vaudeville as part of an act called "The Kiddie Kabaret". She sang and danced with Milton Berle, whom she knew since childhood, and actor Gene Raymond, and appeared on Broadway in Jack Benny's The Great Temptations. She also toured in nightclubs and roadshows of plays and musicals.

Singleton appeared as a nightclub singer in After the Thin Man, credited as Dorothy McNulty. She was cast opposite Arthur Lake (as Dagwood) in the feature film Blondie in 1938, based on the comic strip by Chic Young. They repeated their roles on a radio comedy beginning in 1939 and in guest appearances on other radio shows. As Dagwood and Blondie Bumstead, they proved so popular that a succession of 27 sequels was made from 1938 until 1950, with the radio show ending the same year. Singleton's husband Robert Sparks produced 12 of these sequels. Also in 1950, she had her own program, The Penny Singleton Show, on NBC radio.

Singleton held top billing in Go West, Young Lady (1941), over her male co-star, Glenn Ford. Only two other female stars (Dorothy Page and Jane Frazee) were top-billed singing cowgirls at the time. She provided the voice of Jane Jetson in the 1962–63 animated series, The Jetsons.

Singleton was active in union affairs, as a vocal member of the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA). She was elected president of the AGVA in 1958–1959, and again in 1969–1970. Her union membership was suspended in 1962, when she was accused of slandering some of the union's officers, and she countersued. She testified on the exploitation of women in variety work, and the union's shortcomings in representing those workers, before a United States Senate subcommittee in 1962. "I charge here and now that the exotic and strip artists have been abandoned and made outcasts by the very union to which they pay dues for representation and protection," she announced to the subcommittee.

Singleton was reinstated as a union member in 1963, after the dispute reached a legal settlement. In 1967, she led a successful month-long strike by the Radio City Rockettes for better working conditions. During her presidency, she led negotiations with Disney, during a variety artists' strike at Disneyland in 1970.

Singleton married Laurence Scroggs Singleton, a dentist, in 1937; they divorced in 1939, with her keeping the "Singleton" surname as part of her stage name the rest of her life. She was married to Robert C. Sparks, a Marine Corps officer and film producer, from 1941 until his death in 1963. Singleton had two daughters, Dorothy and Susan. She was a Roman Catholic and a Democrat who supported Adlai Stevenson in the 1952 presidential election.

For her contributions to both radio and the motion-picture industry, in 1960, Singleton was honored with two stars as she was inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star for radio is located at 6811 Hollywood Boulevard, and her film star is at 6547 Hollywood Boulevard.

On November 12, 2003, Singleton died at the age of 95 of respiratory failure, in Sherman Oaks, California.

Sun Valley Serenade, the 1941, 20th Century Fox musical film starring Sonja Henie, John Payne, Glenn Miller, Milton Berle and Lynn Bari takes place at The Sun Valley Lodge, Sun Valley, Idaho Ski Resort. The film also features The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Nicholas Brothers and Clevelander, Dorothy Danderidge performing "Chattanooga Choo-Choo," which is the highlight and centerpiece of the film. It is an excellent film! Sonja Henie is in top form. The film has many well-done musical, ice skating and skiing sequences . The Moderaires also perform. The filming of the Orchestra is excellent! Sun Valley was developed as a ski resort in 1935-36 by Union Pacific Railroad Chairman W. Averell Harriman. It has become the seasonal home to the rich and famous, including Ernest Hemmingway, who wrote "For Whom the Bell Tolls," from suite 206 while staying at the Lodge. Many of the famous guests, including Errol Flynn, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Gary Cooper, Marilyn Monroe, Kennedy family members have been photographed there, and the photo records adorn the halls of the Lodge.
