so, the past few weeks have been really challenging in my personal life. between some stressful events at work and especially a personal tragedy that i’ve been working through with my family, there hasn’t been much of a break. i’m usually the strong one, especially when it comes to my family. i have to be. but it’s nice to know that i have people on my side that i’m allowed to fall apart to, even if i’m crying at a computer screen. so, i wanted to shout out a few people that have made the past few weeks a lot easier to deal with.

p.s. if you aren’t on this list, just know that i love you. i’m following you for a reason.

For the most part, he was PLAYING PRETEND. He pretended to look the way humans look, feel the way humans feel. He’d been assigned to this girl after her mother had died, and for a while...he hung back. It wasn’t time to show himself to her, yet— he helped her from afar: moving speeding cars out of her way in high school, nudging a hiring manager in the right direction after her college graduation.

Her success was his continued success.

She’d been going through a rough patch as an adult, now, working at a job that didn’t respect her passion or her competency. So he’d stepped out of the shadows, met her in the middle of the street and said what she wanted to hear.

Named himself TYLER DURDEN.

And now, here he stands, knocking on the door to the apartment.

        “ Hey, ”         he crooned after she opened the door,         “ what’s going on? You weren’t answering my texts... ”

Weird, mortal boxes. Illuminating all of human knowledge in a matter of minutes if you were connected to floating satellites correctly... The amount of things he turned a blind eye to just so that he wouldn’t blow his cover. The number was climbing higher every day.

            the clashing of metal echoes around her ,   and for a moment , she’s frightened .  it hadn’t been a surprise that their plan didn’t work out   ,   uma was far too smart to fall for something like that   ;   but it had given enough of a distraction to get ben off the plank and away from an impending doom . her eyes had been trained on the pirate taunting him through the whole ordeal , despite the words exchanged between mal and the members of uma’s crew that held everyone else’s attention . a familiar ache ebbs at her heart at the sight of harry and she wonders how things might have been different if she’d stayed    . . .    but there had been little time to dwell on the possibilities before the battle erupted around her . 

            like muscle memory , she raises her blade to defend herself as an unfamiliar face closes in on her . the impact sends a ripple of pain through her arm and into her shoulder , yet still she keeps herself steady , legs spread apart in an appropriate stance to keep her balance as she retaliates with a swing . to her relief , the pirate misses a step and drops to a lower part of the deck , forfeiting his battle with evie to aid his crew member . it’s then that she flips her hair out of her face and over her shoulder  ,  though as she whirls around  ,  evie stops    dead in her tracks   .  

            she meets his gaze and the surrounding noise of shouting and swords clashing seems to fade away . all of it does  ,  until it’s only them . evie falters , blade lowering slightly in surrender as her posture straightens away from her offensive stance .   ❝   harry  ,  ❞   evie whispers , though it’s really more of a croak .  she’s reminded that this may not be the best time to share sentiments as a woman darts past her with a battle cry . a surreptitious glance allows her to survey their surroundings briefly before she takes up another defensive position before him . she trusted him   ,  once upon a time  ,   but now  ,  she truly has no idea if he would fight her .

HOW   COULD   THINGS   GO   SO   WRONG   SO   QUICKLY?   CATRA’S   WORDS   HIT   HER   LIKE   A   TANK.      adora   grits   her   teeth,     arms   shaking   as   she   keeps   the   other   at   bay–––   she   and   catra   had   always   been   relatively   well - matched   when   it   comes   down   to   brute   strength.      seeing   catra   like   this   almost   hurt   more   than   the   scratches   and   punctures   from   the   other’s   claws.      left   leg   dips   as   adora   pivots,     letting   catra   over   power   her   so   that   she   could   topple   the   other.      once   catra   is   on   the   ground,     adora   bites   her   lip   to   keep   it   from   trembling.      she   looks   down   with   concern,     not   pity.
