Another one of Putin's warships is now sleeping with the fishes. 🐟
The Ukrainian military says it has destroyed a large Russian landing ship in the Black Sea off the coast of occupied Crimea in a combined operation of the armed forces and military intelligence. "The armed forces of Ukraine together with the military intelligence (HUR) have destroyed the Tsezar Kunikov, a large landing ship belonging to the occupiers," the General Staff of Ukraine's military said on February 14. It said the vessel was struck by naval drones off the coast near the settlement of Alupka. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the Ukrainian claim, which could not be independently confirmed immediately. But the pro-war Rybar Telegram channel, which is close to the Russian Defense Ministry, confirmed the attack, although without providing details. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy commented on the operation in his nightly video address. "Today, more security in the Black Sea and more motivation for our people were added. This is important. And step by step, we will clear the Black Sea of Russian terrorist objects," Zelenskiy said. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg was asked earlier on February 14 about the strike on the Tsezar Kunikov at a news conference in Brussels. Stoltenberg did not confirm the strike on the landing ship but hailed the progress made by Ukraine in pushing away Russia's fleet from the western part of the Black Sea.
The Tsezar Kuniko was sunk off the coast of Alupka near the southern tip of Russian-occupied Crimea. About 24 Russian warships have now been sunk or damaged beyond repair by Ukraine.

The destruction of the Sergei Kotov becomes the latest in a line of Russian naval losses, including the sinking of the Ropucha class landing ship Cesar Kunikov (also written as Tsezar Kunikov) off the coast of Crimea on February 14. This vessel also capsized after it came under attack from Magura V5 naval drones, as you can read about here.

I’ve been thinking about “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich.”
i’m not usually the type to read Russian literature. The most famous examples of it incite trembling fear (/j) in me due to the sheer size of their texts. These texts being Anna Karenina and War & Peace. But this book, Ivan Denisovich, was part of a required reading for one of my classes. Not this semester, but it remains on my mind nonetheless.
As to why I’ve been thinking about Ivan, I’ve always felt something about it was edited. In the sense that something had been written there but was taken out or covered up. Or more so somewhat avoided? It’s like the author was told to remove it but, instead of completely doing away with it, he chose to stubbornly beat around the bush.
There’s two characters that stand out to me. I will be using their original spellings rather than the altered westernized versions. Mind you, it’s been a hot second since I read the book so I don’t remember who was who, but I believe they were Tsezar and Buynovsky. This seemingly rich man and the guy he seemed to… like? Dote on? I don’t know, but it was definitely some type of favoritism.
Something about their relationship, especially near the end of the book, felt more intimate than the author was letting on. I remember talking about it with a classmate, how their relationship was different from everyone else’s. While everyone based their relationships on favors and opportunities, the relationship between Tsezar and Buynovsky was based on… enjoyment of each other’s company?
This is a bit difficult to explain as I don’t remember the second guy as clearly and I haven’t read the book recently. Maybe I’m looking too deeply into it, but their relationship felt vaguely queer coded to me (and at least one other person as far as I’m aware) while reading it. That’s all I really wanted to say. Not to take away from the very important themes and takeaways from the book, of course.

A plume of smoke spirals above the azure waters of the Black Sea, a stark reminder of the escalating conflict.Ukrainian naval drones have dealt a heavy blow to the Russian Black Sea Fleet, crippling the landing ship Tsezar Kunikov. Ukrainian forces have destroyed a large Russian naval vessel off the occupied Crimean peninsula, Kiev's military claims.
A Ukrainian news channel published several videos showing a column of smoke over the sea off the southern coast of Crimea, as well as helicopters flying over the sea.
“The Ukrainian Armed Forces, together with the intelligence unit of the Ministry of Defense, destroyed the large landing ship Tsezar Kunikov,” the military said. “She was in Ukrainian territorial waters near Alupka at the time of impact.”
This comes as the Ukrainian military warned that Vladimir Putin's troops have advanced along "the entire front line" in Ukraine, while Kiev has been forced to switch to defensive operations, the country's armed forces have warned.
The new commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the situation was "difficult" and that his goal now was to exhaust the Russian advance. “At the moment the situation can be considered difficult. “The enemy is now advancing almost along the entire front line and we have switched from offensive to defensive operations,” Syrskyj told ZDF.

Edgy/misc OC ask meme ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 for your most favorite little meow meow of an OC?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Edgiest Character: Kliment!
He was raised by a guerilla resistance group. Got scooped up by the other side in the middle of a suicide mission. Other side is nicer to him and also he gets intensely attached to the people there (one, Vadik, becomes his husband). But he still wants to set everything on fire and gets very "I've become what I hate" about it. You know how some guys are wifeguys? Kliment is a husbandguy. Absolutely unwell about his husband. He's stationed overseas and misses Vadik and gets very pensive and drinks in a tank top very attractively. He's very cool and "manly" in an action hero-type way that his partner in the field, Tsezar, finds obnoxious.
5. How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?
Well, his whole thing starts with him trying to blow himself up for The Cause and that's when he's a teenager so there’s your baseline. He's very "for the greater good" and "casualties are unavoidable" about things.
10. What's an AU that would be interesting to explore with your OC?
He's so intense and ridiculous I feel like he'd be right at home in some serious Game of Thrones + the Witcher fantasy bullshit. Like he already speaks like a dramatic elf.
15. Does your OC have a faceclaim? If so, who?
Hmm, not really. He has the same VIBES as Michael Fassbender's Magneto?! Like with a manifesto and especially the single manly tear and black turtlenecks. But they look nothing alike.
Tumblr media
20. Does your OC have a tendency to get jealous? If so, how does this manifest?
He turns into a big baby if he feels like someone is offering his husband something he can't offer. He's not, for example, worried about Tsezar + his husband (Vadik) because Kliment knows he's cooler than Tsezar and that Vadik likes him better. But if it was someone that was like, mega cute he'd get very depressed and drink and smoke hotly and shed a single manly tear like "I can never offer Vadik such cuteness...I'm too broken, I'm trapping him in my haunted life when what he needs is someone pure and sweet without such dark shadows upon their souls". This bullshit continues until Tsezar tells Vadik and Vadik calls Kliment and talks him out of his weird emo hole.
The same thing would happen if Tsezar met someone way cooler than Kliment and started hanging out with him. He'd be really upset and feel like Tsezar was going to leave (?!?!) him for this cooler person but wouldn't know why. He's like a dog that sees a bigger dog and is like "wtf. wtf... this is ruining my life?!?!" but once he's made friends with the bigger dog and is assured he's not going to be replaced he calms down (re: he grew up being very disposable).
25. What is your favorite thing about your OC?
I think I like that he's so "ultra cool spy guy with a dark past" but then is also embarrassing. When he's younger he has no chill and wants to talk about politics and manifesto shit all the time. Picture a fucking teenager trying to lecture another teenager (Tsezar) about what a lumpenproletariat is. Very "sir, this is a Wendy's" bullshit. When he's older, only his very close friends get to see his cringe behavior but it's still there.

Ukraine has claimed the destruction of another warship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, the Ropucha class landing ship Cesar Kunikov (also written as Tsezar Kunikov) being the latest victim of explosives-laden naval drones off the coast of Crimea. Ukrainian officials claim that the landing ship was sunk in the overnight attack and available imagery shows the vessel capsized(..)
P.S. The good news is that Ukraine is capable of producing the MAGURA V5 naval drone on its own and, at least in this area, does not depend on the whims of Western politicians who are incompetent in security matters...Western action, or rather inaction, in Ukraine is still best described by the words: "Too little too late, too weak and totally unprofessional...!" Of course, because of such passivity of the West, the Kremlin and its allies are becoming more and more brazen. Almost the whole story repeats itself, almost like in the late 1930s before the Second World War...

Shukhov went to sleep fully content. He'd had many strokes of luck that day: they hadn't put him in the cells; they hadn't sent his squad to the settlement; he'd swiped a bowl of kasha at dinner; the squad leader had fixed the rates well; he'd built a wall and enjoyed doing it; he'd smuggled that bit of hacksaw blade through; he'd earned a favour from Tsezar that evening; he'd bought that tobacco. And he hadn't fallen ill. He'd got over it. A day without a dark cloud. Almost a happy day.
There were three thousand six hundred and fifty three days like that in his stretch. From the first clang of the rail to the last clang of the rail. Three thousand six hundred and fifty-three days.
The three extra days were for leap years.
