the red sun bore down on the canyon, hardening the soil to a dark, burnt gold colour. the heat in the sunlight was unbearable, but in the shade among the rocks it was almost cold. charlie’s cousin had dragged the gallifreyan to the safety of the shadows, and charlie crouched down next to him again.

“ i think he’s waking up. go back to camp, tell them what we found. and see if anyone’s got the radios up. it’s too hot to be running around. ”

“ you gotta stop ordering me around, charlie, ” tully snapped back.

charlie shrugged.

“ don’t do it, then ?? ” she suggested flippantly. the argument ended with her cousin huffing and storming off, disappearing through the rocks.

patting down her pockets, charlie managed to find a pencil. using the unsharpened end, she prodded the time lord in the chest.

“ hey. ” she said, pausing her prodding for a moment before moving to poke him in the face instead. “ mate. cockhead of gallifrey. wake up. i don’t have all day. ”
