bob floyd had always been fascinated by science. it was the art of discovery and learning. he loved all branches of the subject, but chemistry and physics were his favorites one was based in learning how things worked in the world. how things reacted to each other, with each other. and what they were composed of and how to break them down. the other was based on learning how the world worked on things. how those things reacted to the circumstances and conditions around them. biology snuck in at third place later when he got to ninth grade. and the human body was such a complex yet simple thing. a near perfect combination of his two loves. and then later his sophomore year of high school he went on a field trip to the local crime lab when his science class was doing a unit on DNA. and that is when he found his true love. forensics

Maverick was renowned for his skills as an aviator, it was how he earned his call sign so many years earlier, however, he was also infamous for his elaborate holiday parties he threw every year. No expense was spared when it came to his celebrations - rented sleighs for photo opportunities, elaborate light displays, Christmas trees galore - the Hard Deck was completely transformed into a winter wonderland festivity for the Dagger Squad and their families.

All of the Daggers had volunteered themselves to help with setting up - Bob and Natasha took time and care hanging lights everywhere while Penny directed Reuben and Mickey as they moved furniture into place, arranging everything to Maverick’s specifications that he’d laid out while he wrapped up a couple of things on base. Jake, ever-the-charmer, had volunteered to organize the music before Bradley had a chance to lay a claim on the role.

“Not a chance, Rooster. You’ll bore everyone with your old people shit. Not everyone wants to hear Bong Crispy or whoever it is you listen to,” Jake smirked as he pulled his phone out, working hard to cultivate the perfect playlist.

“It’s Bing Crosby, Jackass,” Bradley corrected with a huff and a dramatic eyeroll.

Penny put a comforting hand on Bradley’s shoulder before speaking.

“You can play bartender for the night. Still remember those tricks I showed you? I’d like a night off to spend with Pete anyways,” She nodded, a grin on her lips as she looked back over to the others.

The night went off without a hitch, and once everyone had drinks in hand, Bradley snuck away to where Jake was standing, whispering something in his ear before looking over at you with a mischievous look in his eye. Jake huffed and rolled his eyes, trying hard to pretend to be annoyed by whatever Bradley was requesting. A moment later, Bradley was making his way across the room to where you were laughing with Bob about something, Bradley wasn’t sure what, but it wasn’t important. All he wanted right now was to have a moment with you.

Bradley took you by the hand, leading you over to the piano. Jake paused the music for a moment, giving Bradley a thumbs up as he flashed him a grin. Bradley took his seat on the piano bench as he motioned for you to sit beside him. You took your seat beside him and smiled as he began tapping the keys, the familiar notes of Sleigh Ride filling the room as the others watched excitedly - Bradley always had a way of captivating an entire room, either by his charm or his musical talents, and tonight was no exception.

“Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting-tingling too. Come on, it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.”

jake’s propped up in bed, reading over a new book about a heroic tale from world war two. you come into your shared bedroom, rubbing your towel through your wet hair. you groan when you see the pile of clothes on the floor. you kick yourself that you didn’t clean them up earlier. jake picks up on your frustrated and exhausted tone. jake closes his book and places it on the bedside table. “baby…” he watches as you pick up the clothes in a flurry. “sweetheart, stop. i’ll do that. come here.” he flips the bed covers over. it’s a warm invitation to the thing you’re so desperately craving. bed.

you crawl into bed and peep out from under the covers, sheepishly watching jake fold the clothes away. he smiles at you reassuringly. “you know i’m happy to help you. we’re in this together, sweets.”

he grabs the comb from the bathroom when he puts the last of the clothes away. he climbs into bed with you and helps you sit up. you’re pressed flush against his chest and he draws the comb through your hair. the pressure is nearly orgasmic and you feel your eyes closing steadily, heavy with sleep. “c’ ere.” he places the comb down on the side and draws you closer into his chest with his large arms and pulls you to the soft mattress. “i’ve got you, sweets. close your eyes.”
