As pediatric dentists, we cannot stress enough the importance of early and consistent oral health care for infants.
The foundation for a lifetime of healthy smiles is laid during these crucial early years. Parents, caregivers, and healthcare providers must work together to ensure optimal oral hygiene for infants. Firstly, clean your baby's gums with a soft, damp cloth after feedings, even before teeth emerge. Once teeth start to appear, usually around six months, transition to a soft-bristle infant toothbrush. Using low Fluoride toothpaste in beginning in a rice size amount, or better still, with the help of Pediatric dentist, you may start with 1000 ppm fluoride toothpaste to set the right foundation of early oral hygiene habits.

Breast milk - The most perfect natural food for the baby at the perfect temperature with the perfect love and warmth.
The bond of love and affection which is formed between the infant and the mother, provides the child with much needed warmth and security. The suckling leads to development of orofacial structures and thus resulting in nicely developed teeth, face and mouth. It naturally soothes the body and improves gut health apart from providing the best of the nutrition.

Breastfeeding - Bonding time with your little one!
Tumblr media
Breastfeeding provides numerous benefits for mothers beyond the joy of bonding with their baby. Firstly, breastfeeding releases oxytocin, a hormone that promotes feelings of love and relaxation, which helps reduce stress and anxiety levels in mothers. Additionally, it has been shown to lower the risk of postpartum depression, as it helps regulate hormonal changes in the body. Breastfeeding also helps mothers recover from childbirth faster by reducing the risk of postpartum bleeding and promoting the contraction of the uterus. Long-term benefits of breastfeeding for mothers include a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancer, as well as a decreased risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease later in life.

General anesthesia in pediatric dentistry involves the use of medications to induce a state of deep sleep in children during dental procedures.
Tumblr media
This approach is usually reserved for cases where a child cannot tolerate traditional treatments due to age, anxiety, special needs, or the complexity of the procedure. The process begins with a thorough preoperative assessment, including the child's medical history, physical examination, and any relevant laboratory tests. An anesthesiologist administers the anesthesia in a controlled environment, closely monitoring the child's vital signs throughout the procedure. Parents or guardians play a crucial role in the decision-making process, as they need to be well-informed about the benefits, risks, and alternatives to general anesthesia. Pediatric dentists at Tooth Tales work closely with anesthesiologists to create a safe and effective treatment plan tailored to each child's specific needs, ultimately aiming to provide optimal oral health outcomes while prioritizing the child's well-being and comfort.
