Hey Crim! What's on your 2 Old 2 Guard wishlist?

a lot of the time when ppl write nile post-tog shes often already A Member Of The Family and falls into the group with ease (which IS what you kind of see in the merrick fight scene admittedly) but i would like to see nile struggling a little to find her place in this group of people who are so infinitely strange and old to her. as much as shes struck up such a close bond w/ andy, andy is difficult to *know* and *understand*. and she barely knows joe and nicky. and booker, who was the guy who had the most similar life experience to her, is gone. i think theres a lot there, nile struggling to find her Place in her new family while struggling with her decision to 'leave' her old one; while also trying to find her place in the world, especially regarding the fact that it seems like so much of her life pre-death seemed to be about following in her father's footsteps. how can she still do that in the situation shes in? does she want to still do that?

as i understand it joe and nicky may or may not kidnap copley in FM. in the comicsverse copley isnt recruited to the team at the end of the first installment and kozak is dead. at the end of the first installment in the movieverse, copley is recruited and kozak is alive. i dunno have them go fuck up kozak or something

what is quynh *like*? how does she behave? noriko seems sort of.. carefree, fun-loving, etc (when she's not recovering from being tossed in the ocean for hundreds of years that is). is quynh like that? what 'role' does/did she take in the group? what did the squad love about her, what was her relationship with the boys?

why i like them

He just cares so goddamn much okay. I mean, all the immortals do, that's kind of their Thing, that doesn't make Nicky special, but he does and it's wonderful. He's this guy who has made all kind of bad choices in the past, but he put in the work to be better and continues to strive for that every single day, to try to leave the world a little kinder than he found it, and given the grimdark trend in modern storytelling, it's so freaking refreshing to have that trait presented as something admirable instead of, like, dumb or naive. And he loves his husband SO MUCH.

why i don’t

...most of the things I could think of here are due to fanon interpretations of the character rather than what's presented in canon. Um. From the panels I've seen of the TTT comics, I think the character is...much less kind there, in ways that make me uncomfortable. But I'm fine with just being a movieverse fan for TOG as a whole, so I choose to ignore those.

favorite episode (scene if movie)

All of them, but also, yeah, that time in Malta - that whole sequence. With Nicky and Kozak to start, the way he probes her out and leaves her unsettled, and then how he switches on a dime the instant Joe wakes up to try to comfort and distract him from their situation. Like, if the van scene is all about how Joe shows his love for Nicky -- words of affirmation and defiance against their captors, his protectiveness -- I do think the Malta scene is about Nicky showing his love for Joe, by doing everything he can to reassure him and tease him into a better frame of mind. And then the wistfulness of "we should go back sometime," ugh, just breaks my heart.

This is entirely headcanon interpretation, but I think Nicky & Quynh were FUN together.

head canon

My very niche and silly headcanon is that Nicky is an unholy terror of a driver. He's extremely good at it and gives zero fucks about traffic laws, which is a dangerous combination. You will absolutely get where you're going in one piece and much faster than you anticipated, but the havoc left in his wake is...a Thing.

unpopular opinion

Nicky is not quiet or shy or socially awkward. He is VERY good at reading a room, and when he says something unsettling, it's because he wants you to be unsettled by it. He has no problem speaking his mind, but is also extremely strategic about when to stay silent instead. I don't understand where the heck this fanon interpretation of shy, awkward Nicky comes from and while I’ve seen good writers handle it well, it irritates me as a general rule. (I read a meta post at some point positing that actually, Nicky is the extrovert and Joe the introvert in their relationship, and that reads very true to me.)

i see many people are on this topic now and i have to join… astrology is my jam

andy: CAPRICORN SUN FOR SURE!! virgo moon bc… pessimism when things have gone not according to plan lmao. some earth sign (again) rising, maybe capricorn or virgo. andy literally screams earth sign, but she probably has a scorpio placement somewhere (mars, i think?)

booker: someone has said he’s leo and i agree! leo ppl have strong opinion and they’re always try to the things they think are right (leo is also known for being loyal, but NO BAD TALKING ABOUT MY DEPRESSED RAT MAN HERE) he can be depressed esp. about family so probably cancer moon or venus, and probably aries rising bc at first glance in the movie he seemed confident and active right?

joe: LIBRAAAAAAA (not bc im a libra myself) but libra is the sign known for being peaceful, romantic and artistic (maybe libra in venus too). taurus moon bc he’s probably a very patient person (imagine stuck with nicolo during their early time together lmao), and sag rising?? he seems pretty fun, honest and relaxed

nicky: TRUST ME HE’S PISCES. nicky believes in kindness and humanity, but can also be very sensitive and secretive too. scorpio moon bc he believes in change and kinda protective? and maybe aquarius rising not only bc aquarius is a sign of humanitarianism but look at him… does he looks like he gives a f about sense of style lol (overall nicky gives me very big water sign vibe)

nile: my girl’s aries baby for sure: strong, fearless and rebellious!! also cancer moon like booker from her sentimental nature and love for family. i think she’s gemini rising: restless, witty and very versatile.

bonus for quynh: we dont know much about her character in the movieverse but i think she exudes scorpio energy: strong, fierce, unyielding and sooo magnetic

Hi! Thx so much for enabling me in rambling about my story ideas anon lmao I really appreciate that!

The multiverse chaos is not just for The Old Guard, it's a crossover chaos made of including but not limited to Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Age of the Five, Twilight (yes, twilight) HP (yes, sorry), Marvel, and whatever my current obsessions are are also thrown into the mix, which means that yes- I do also have some ideas for the TOG characters in that setting! Idk whether I'll ever write fic for it, doubt it tbh bc it would require too much backstory to be rly understandable for anyone but me, so like... not putting this under readmore bc it's future fic spoilers, just bc it's probably gonna be Long xD

Ok to rb, if anyone's interested in sharing this chaos! :D

First of all, the characters! TOG has a movie and a comic 'verse that are quite different from each other, which on the one hand- perfect for multiverse setting! But on the other hand- that they're that different so early on - Quynh vs Noriko for example - while still ending up with the same character of Nile later on... does not make much sense in my logicalTM multiverse (send another ask if you want to know why not xD), so I got a bit creative instead

Now to the story... this will be Chaos because well I don't rly have a proper storyline for them yet

I'm not sure whether I'd want Central (the multiverse crossing organisation) to stumble across movieverse1 or comics!verse first, but either way they meet movie!verse post world war 4 or whatever with Nile and JoeNicky dead and the rest of the Guard not having any ties to their home world anymore, so they join Central

Each of the Guard planets is a coverworld, meaning someone playing god artificially changed things about them, like the immortality, and when finding another 'verse with their planets they'd have to check for Evil Magician Infestation first basically, but I'm leaning towards that person already being long gone and the leftover magic acting on its own

Movieverse/2 is found by ppl from comics or moviev/1 or both while Quỳnh is still in the ocean and/or Andy is already losing her immortality, Q finds Quỳnh by tracking the coordinates she used to be at herself and they fix Andy's soul-shield, seeing the pain that causes her being enough for Quỳnh to stop hating her for abandoning her and instead trying to help make her feel better

Elena is not very welcoming towards JoeNicky/2 at first bc they remind her of her parents (duh) while clearly not being them, JoeNicky/1 had lived at least a thousand years longer and changed over that time into the people she knew as her fathers... but in the end she accepts them as something like uncles for her. Idk whether she would also be friends with Nile again, (Nile/1 had chosen mortality when Enola was about 30 y/o and had then abandoned her too...)

Also I rly rly want to explore ot4 or ot6 dynamics with the Andromaquynhs and Androriko lol... for example have that scene in mind when the first 4 meet movieverse/2, Andy and Quỳnh at first not knowing which other Andromache belongs to which Quỳnh/Noriko xD

asking for a friend, how likely do u think we are to get canon andromaquynh in the sequel - 2ta

id... . . . expect so at least. itd be weird if they kissed in the comics and were then demoted to Just Gal Pals in the movie (as much as -as ive pointed out before- apparently there was no intent for andyquynh to be a Thing at the time of filming tog1). greg has mentioned that tog2 will be very different from FM, and ik greg's mentioned before that joenicky's Canon Queer Relationship™ status not being changed within the movieverse was one of the (very) few things he was willing to fight for in regards to tog being adapted into film (and i dont think ive ever seen him say the same abt andyquynh. tbh off the top of my head i dont know if i know of any greg interview/podcast where he's mentioned andyquynh/andynoriko) so i dont know if he would fight for keeping it. charlize might, i dont know if van would but shes only an actress so she only has so much say.

so,, i dont know. i would expect so, and they would probably get heat for it if they didnt. the impression ive always gotten from the timeline of the film and comics production is that greg only got the idea for andynoriko after tog1 finished filming (or at least close to finishing filming). and i would think that that fact wouldnt stop them from including andyquynh in the movieverse; tho i do remember at one point skydance suggested that the van scene be removed from tog1 bc it 'distracted from nile's story' (and greg never said this but i think the only thing that mightve saved the van scene from being removed is that greg's contract explicitly stated skydance couldnt remove that scene from the movie lmao) so andyquynh not being there or only hinted at is technically a possibility

I just finished the first tog comic and I've many thoughts. Overall I'm glad for the changes that were made, some of the emotional moments of the movie, were just different in the comics. Mainly the van speech, "It's not what time steals, it's what it leaves behind" scene and Booker telling Nile about his family.

i love talking abt the differences between the movieverse and comicverse, i think its fascinating!! and yeah the tone of the two are really different, especially in the emotional moments. which sometimes is just a 'well theyre two different things' and sometimes the movie just genuinely feels more well done. like the van scene is definitely VASTLY more tender and emotional (*blows kiss to mr kenzari*) although theres a couple lines from the comic speech that im soft for ('music of the mundane' gets me bro)

booker's speech to nile in the comic always felt weirdly hampered by the fact that andy was just sitting there listening, and booker was in the back seat of the car so he wasnt even looking at nile when it happened

& theres a lot of moments where the comics just took the more 'gun full, head empty' route while the movie took a more emotional/melancholy vibe. like andy and nile's relationship
