so this is something i've been thinking about since the episode, but it wasn't until seeing everyone's awesome moon card art i remembered - so taliesin talked about how the moon card in every moonweaver deck is more or less the same, the full moon in the sky over a clear lake, and when you play the moon card in reverse it becomes the mirror card, with the moon still in its right place but reflected in the lake, and this time you see the second, smaller, red moon behind it

now, if anyone was paying attention to that time matt created an npc whose sole purpose was to bore people to death with moon facts (or if anyone looked up what he said on the wiki), exandria does have a second, smaller, red moon, that's only visible half the year, which makes perfect sense for the symbolism of the card and its relation to the god

but i keep thinking about what it must have meant to molly

like, you wake up, and you don't know who you are. you have vague memories, you know you were someone before this, but they all feel wrong, you feel wrong, you feel empty and lost and scared and time seems to pass without you being aware of it, you can't speak, the only thing you can communicate to whoever is around you now is how hollow and wrong all of this feels

and slowly you come back to yourself, with a new family, who've given you a new name, and have no expectations of who you're supposed to be, only encouraging you to find who you want to be

and what you want to be is mollymauk tealeaf. and it's exciting that you get to decide who that is for yourself. and everything's exciting, really, it's a whole new world and you're ready to explore it and not think about all those feelings from before

but sometimes it's unavoidable. there are red eyes marking your entire body, solid red, like your own, like whoever put them here. and they're not ink, they're more alive than that, and it scares you. you have powers no one else does and you know they're from before and they're useful but that scares you.

so you find solace in the moonweaver. a god who encourages creativity, and trickery, and illusions. you feel her support as you reinvent yourself, growing your hair out and finding colourful clothing and piercing your horns so you can decorate them with all the pretty things you love so much. you know she's with you when you design your tattoos, new patterns to surround all the eyes - you can't cover them up, but you can distract your audience, get them to focus on the things you choose, and you've learned that's basically the same thing.

you've learned that the people in this world see you as a devil, which is another thing you were given and had no control over, but it's okay because your family doesn't, and the people who'll never see the real you, who see only an illusion they created, the moonweaver would laugh at them, for doing the work for her. you'd laugh at them too. and when you cover your coat in patterns so they can't see who you worship, because she's not welcome here either, it feels like an inside joke that only the two of you share

you make the moon card first. this one is special, because this card is hers. all the rest you can take your time with, find symbolism for elsewhere, but this card has rules, it's the most important part of the deck, and more than anything else in your life, this is something you want to get perfect.

you're proud of it when you finish it. it's probably not the best art in the world, you haven't had much time to learn, and whoever had this body before you, you don't think he was much of an artist. but it looks pretty to your eyes, and as much as this is her card, this version of it is now yours too. yours because you made it, yours because who you are is evident in every part of it, and yours because when you turn it over, that moon in the reflection looks an awful lot like an eye.

jester identified the moon card as molly's, more so than the other cards, even though he pulled multiple for her for her first reading, and she was probably right

and i can't help but think about the fact that the moon has a mirror image when played in reverse, and that reflection is so very lucien

i don't know how much of this worldbuilding is matt, how much is taliesin, or if any is coincidence, but they're all creative geniuses and i love it

well that backstory drop was everything that I had hoped for pretty much I took some pretty long notes imo?? (extra note: i take these for personal use theres just so much shite im sorry) Anyway I tried to transcribe most of the molly scene so its probably spelled like SHIT cause i was typing on one laptop and looking at the other

that outta the way, heres my notes from this week

Kree (sp) takes blood from them as collateral, can track with it? Beau to Fjord: ... Can I borrow a tusk

"Lets gamble" - The gentleman, gambling with Fjord 50 gold buy in, "If I win, you're mine. If you win, we do business." Bets up to 300gp each (600 total) Fjord wins. Oh jesus CHRIST. That was so stressful RIP the chance of me sleeping again.

caleb has actually introduced himself with his full name a few times if i recall. for example with the knights of requital (i think??) and back in trostenwald comes to mind immediately
