There’s Nothing Wrong With Being Human - Vol 2
In which a mirror dragon and a planet god piss each other off, again and again.
Vol. 2 - Reflecting Darkness
Rating: (for this part) G (swearing)
Notes: I’m gonna keep pumping these out until someone gives a shit about them.
Reflecting Darkness
“Firem, why?” He breaths.
“You must be healthy, and balanced, Father.”
“Let me leave this world, Darling…”
“No.”
That landscape of peaceful dreams. They were shattered. Absolutely shattered.
Firem’s eyes slowly blinked open, as she was just conscious enough to feel something soft and silky brush against the tip of her nose.
When her vision cleared, she was greeted by a most unpleasant thing. Color.
As well as two red eyes.
The colorful thing was dragged away from her line of sight, and noise rang through her normally silent dimension.
“Wake up, wake up, sleepy bitch~!”
The voice was enough to make her sit up, but the profane word made her put on an angry expression on her usually calm face.
She looked ahead, and what she saw was enough to make her jaw drop.
A man clad in purple and gold armor, a flimsy toga, and a pure white cloth that seemed to float behind him. His skin was a shining umber, a golden winged laurel raked in his amethyst locks. There was a round hole in his chestplate, that looked like a gate to the void of space. He seemed to glow with a strange light, as if he was giving off what looked like the galaxy.
All of that, placed right there in her precious dimension. At first, she felt a wave of panic wash over her. (As well as a slight feeling of, well, something else that was unidentifiable to her.) And then she noticed two things. One was the long, shimmering purple blade hooked on his belt, and two, were those piercing red eyes.
“Quit ogling.”
“Y...you…” Firem muttered, shakily getting onto her feet. “You’re the one from the dungeon, aren’t you?” She rubbed her eyes, not giving him the satisfaction of being able to see them.
She heard the sound of metal clinking. “Yep…” The boyish voice came from behind her.
The dragoness spun around and glared at him, her legs tensing. “Who are you?” She called sternly, attempting to shake the grogginess from her voice.
More alien noise echoed through her perfect dimension, this time it was him yawning. “Listen, Reflecty, I just want that jewel back. So give it to me, and I’ll leave you be.”
“No.” Firem rebutted as soon as he stopped speaking. “And it’s Firem, not-”
“Firem. What a name, huh?”
She drew in a sharp inhale.
“...ugh.” He moaned, stretching out his limbs. “It’s too damn bright in this place. Here, let me fix it for you-”
“Hm. Well, that’s because in this place the laws of Light and Dark- wait what are you even doing?!”
Firem watched in shock as the intruder grabbed the blade on his belt, and pierced what looked to be the very fabric of the white void that was her world.
Her legs buckled, as noises she would only call pathetic slipped out of her mouth. He dragged the blade towards him, as the world tore like cloth, leaving a crooked diagonal slit that slowly pried open.
He tugged the blade and hooked it back onto his belt, and smacked his hands together as if he was proud of his vandalization. “There you go.”
“What have you done?!” Her cold facade was finally shattered, as she quickly made her way to the tear. “No! No! What is this? What is it?”
She heard him laugh raucously. “Chill! It’s only a rift. It leads to my own dimension, isn’t it pretty?” His honeyed words made her want to strangle him right there and then.
“No! It’ll be too much and he- I mean t-the dimension will die!” Pale hands flailed around, reaching to the cosmic rift, trying to find some kind of solution.
He laughed again. “Aw, you wanna go there? I might take you if you’re nice enough, little dragon…” He sat as he levitated, one leg slung over the other.
It was suddenly silent.
“Pitiful.”
“Hm?”
“Pathetic. You’re pathetic.”
“What did you say?”
“Disgusting! You’re so pathetic!”
“I…”
“I hate you! Your kind is so...so...detestable!”
No words were spoken, as Firem was grabbed by the hair and forcefully spun around. She was met with the navy void of space, before her cheeks were pressed in by cold fingers.
Her limbs went limp as she was lifted up to meet his face. His playful yet devious expression was now gone, as he stared into her very being with those dreaded bloody eyes.
In a state of terror, she shut her eyes, unable to express anything else with her scrunched face.
Firem felt his cold breath brush against her face. Her eyelids quivered.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you.”
Firem had never felt such hate for anything before. No human, monster, dragon, god, devil, spirit, whatever was this detestable to her. Despite the hurricane of emotions inside her, she gathered her little strength and opened her eyes.
Regret poured into her as her very soul was stabbed by those crimson daggers.
“Listen here, Shiny.”
He was now speaking in an angry, gravelly tone, tilting his head ever-so-slightly so he could get a good look at her.
“I am Uranus, and I am a God.”
Her soul quaked.
“You will not slander me, unless you want to ripped apart, limb by limb, piece by piece, into tiny, little, scraps.”
Firem’s face was beginning to turn a sickly grey.
“Do I make myself clear…?”
She nodded, knowing that if she disobeyed, she would be suffocated violently. “...yes…”
Uranus dropped her.
Firem fell to the ground, landing on all fours, brutally coughing as she attempted to catch her breath.
She hacked as she felt Uranus press his boot onto the back of her bare midriff.
“Y’know, you’re doing a great job at holding in those tears.” He laughed, toyingly putting pressure on her spine. “Most people would’ve broken down by now, but you’re a pretty tough girl.”
“...most people?” Firem whimpered, afraid of what he would do to her if she even talked back.
The God lightened the pressure, giving her the chance to recover. “Oh, I haven’t really done this to anybody else. I’ve usually just killed malicious human robbers, stuff like that...m-a-n, those guys have such fragile little brains.”
“But I don’t wanna kill you, Firem. You’re super fun to mess with!”
She couldn’t even come up with anything to say back to that.
Uranus finally removed his foot, but she didn’t stand up. “Okay, enough messing around. Where’s that stupid jewel?”
Firem, despite her determination and reluctancy, didn’t hesitate to summon the jewel beside her with a weak snap. She rose to her knees as she watched him take the artifact in his hands, and cover it with his bizarre white cloth-cape thing.
Without saying a word, Uranus strolled over to the rift he created. He looked back, smiled, and waved at Firem, as he stepped into his own dastardly place. “Bye-bye, Firem!” He cooed.
But, as he was waving goodbye to his little draconic plaything, he felt someone grab his hand, and he jerked back with a grunt.
To put it shortly, Firem was now in his dimension.
And she was not okay.

There’s Nothing Wrong With Being Human - Vol. 1
In which a mirror dragon and a planet god fight, insult each other, fight some more, and maybe, might, possibly, get along.
Vol. 1 - Smoke and Mirrors
Rating: (for this part) G
Notes: This is a new thing I’m experimenting with. A series of short parts with a rather flimsy plot. The intention is too mainly help me fight writer’s block and give me something to do, so imagine these to be fairly common.
See end of the story for notes and context.
Smoke and Mirrors
Firem hated three things in this universe.
One, was Father’s persistence. “You have to take my place, Firem.” “Firem, you must advance, I won’t be alive forever.” “Firem, don’t do this, I must go on to the afterlife.” It was all white noise to her. All of it.
Two, was waking up. It was so long, and difficult, and tedious, and painful. She couldn’t understand why she had to do anything, except be there. It wasn’t like the dimension would crumble if she was asleep.
Three, was the human realm. It was filthy, dark, loud, gross, etc. Just like humans themselves. But they did have surprisingly powerful artifacts. Seriously, she only needed one jewel to balance the dimension again. One. Single. Jewel. And it was super easy to get into the dungeon, mirror-jump through the rooms, right to the treasure chamber.
Firem shuffled in her uncomfortable human disguise, and began to approach the pedestal. After looking around for a second, she realized that she was completely, utterly, alone. Just as she liked.
She couldn’t stop herself from smirking as her hand reached for the artifact. The thing was beautiful, even if it was Dark. It was swirling with different shades of purple, specks of gleaming white, all kept inside by a crystal clear shell.
Her pale hand grasped the top, and she felt a small shock in her palm. Firem exhaled, glad that she could finally go home.
“Hey.”
Firem surged, a high-pitched gasp escaping her lips. She tried to pull her hand away, but she witnessed an arm reach out from the darkness behind the pedestal, lower, and clamp down over her own hand.
“Who?” She shrieked, feeling a burning sensation on the back of her hand. Firem instantly tugged away her hand, as well as the artifact, holding it closely to her chest. “Who are you?!”
The voice yawned, snickered, and the she heard footsteps. She stepped back, ready to rip off her cloak and attack.
A figure, wearing a pitch-black hood, stepped out from the darkness. It curled around the pedestal, the end of its cloak dragging along the ancient brick floor. “Eh, and who are you?” It stopped when it spoke, slanting to the right as it faced her.
She backed up again, trying to scan the person’s face. Scarily, the hood obscured all features of its head.
“Answer me...first.” Bracing herself for attack, she lowered the artifact, slipping it into her own white cloak.
It straightened itself, cocking its head towards the ceiling. “Miss...” it was male. She could tell. “...Do you need that gem?” He crooned, staying completely still.
Firem decided not to say anything. She scowled, drawing her hand behind her, tracing a rectangle in the air, trying to open a gate.
All she heard was a faint sigh, before the weight in her hand suddenly vanished, the artifact perched perfectly in the human’s raised hand.
She stifled a shout, but struggled to remain calm. “You…” the metal pin holding her cloak together was parted. “I need that. So give it to me, or…” She felt the cloth slide off her shoulders, revealing her pale skin, liberating her metallic cascade of hair, her spiraled horns, and her chromium tail.
“Or?”
“Or I’ll--” Firem slung her arm forward, flicking “droplets” of white light that blotched the floor and gave off beams of energy, as she skipped around and snatched the gem back, pivoted her foot and rotated around to look up at his face with a smug smile.
That smile dropped when she saw those two dire red dots.
Another sigh exited his obscured mouth. “Alright then. If that’s the game you wanna play, then I’ll try and play fairly.” Firem, frozen in a state of both terror and confusion, watched as he pulled a broad, glittering, amethyst blade out of seemingly nowhere.
“Ah…” She cursed herself for showing visible fear. “You...you’re not...human…”
The blade was suddenly millimeters away from her slender neck.
“I could say the same thing about you, missy.”
Firem, in an act of desperation, summoned a golden ribbon that pushed both him and the blade away. She slid to a retreat, panting and coughing from the recoil in a crouched position.
“Oh.” He sounded like he was only slightly worn. “So you’re a dragon. And a Light one at that! What are the chances?” There was a trivial chuckle in his speech, one that she did not appreciate in the slightest.
She went back to trying to summon another portal, struggling to stand up straight. When she caught her balance and looked back, she was rudely greeted by a purple shockwave that knocked her into the wall.
“Ah, I know what you are!”
A metal sandal pried her off the wall and kicked her in the opposite direction. She wailed as she struck the bricks again, trying to counter with a pathetic bolt of energy.
“You’re one of those Mirror Dimension dragons, aren’t you? The ones who think they’re all so high and mighty-”
Firem coughed violently, but soon was able to recover to her feet.
“-with all of their reflections and and lights and shit.”
She held her hand out, her other one, still managing to hold on to the object, extended behind her.
“Missy, you’re pretty brave, I’ll give you that-”
He held out his cosmic sword, his hood struggling to stay on his head.
“-that you even tried to-
“-pick a fight with me!”
As the two’s voices echoed throughout the dungeon, two beams of energy blasted towards each other and made contact, conflicting with an indescribable look. The noise was piercing, the energy was blinding, and the two both struggled to overpower one another.
Despite the physical strain, Firem’s other hand still moved, tracing a circle underneath her. She looked towards her opponent, and grinned at him brightly, before she forcibly reflected both of their attacks to the side, and dropped into the blinding white circle, which soon contracted, leaving no trace of her behind.
And so, Firem gently placed the jewel next to her beloved sleeping spot, sat down, took in the endless white void, and laid her head down to sleep. She was finally at peace again. No more errands, no more humans, no more scary red-eyed men.
She was perfectly fine.
Until she wasn’t.
Notes: So...Firem and the other character’s name (which will not be revealed till next time) are both from Puzzle and Dragons. Stupid, I know. Despite the fact that the characters and some elements from the game are in the story, I don’t consider this a “fanfic” as a lot of this is my original idea, and that the game has basically no lore. Even if it’s a silly idea, I’m still excited to see where I can take this, and I’m expecting these to be fairly regular.
I hope you enjoy!
