kind of weird to realise everybody in my immediate family except me was baptised in the name of russian saints specifically
#like i don't think it's A Problem per se. i don't think Canceling Saints is a worthy thing to put time and effort into lol#but it's like. it's the trust that my parents put into those stories three consecutive times at different points in their life#and much like everything else those stories are inseparable from the russian imperial project#st alexander was a medieval warlord st elizaveta was a relative of the romanovs#and again them being Bad People is not my point. maybe they were good! maybe they were just and kind and pious! they're still a part of it#and i'm probably taking more issue with this than anyone in my family and overthinking#tldr another awkward consequence of colonialism and breaking away from it i suppose#mari rambles
