Before a game he’ll just listen to her little voice messages that she would send him about her day or how she was so proud of him (those were messages she’d send when he was on the road) and he never tells her but those are the messages that get him through the day as he gets to hear her voice and then he knows she loves him.

basically he left because he needed to clear his head.
Matthew had fallen in love with Lilah and he thought that her not wanting kids was something that he could change. So hearing that she actually couldn’t have kids killed him.
Part of him was sad that it would mean he couldn’t father her kids but he was more so hurt that she hadn’t said anything to him and that he had to find out like this.
So he came home about six hours after they spoke and Lilah was fast asleep on the couch with her phone in her hand as she had contacted each of his teammates trying to find him. Her keys were on the table and it was clear that she was about come and find him “hey doll.” Matthew sighed as he tucked a blanket over her.
It made Lilah stir in her sleep as she turned to him with a yawn “what are you doing here?” She was surprised that he was actually back “I’m sorry I ran away.” Matthew kissed her head as they ended up sat on the couch the rest of the night.

They ended up going on their first date after Lilah mentioned that she was being dragged along to her exes birthday and that she wasn’t looking forward to it.
That morning Matthew ended up at her apartment because they had been becoming friends and they spent the entire day at this house pretending to be together. Matthew had his arm wrapped around her at all times as he refused to let her go because the second she was alone someone from her past would come up to him and try to talk him into leaving Lilah.
The whole thing about how protective he was of her made her heart melt and she loved the attention as she ended up actually kissing him that night and a week later they were dating.

Matthews dog Coco usually saw some older guy when she came in for her checkups but this year Lilah replaced him.
To say Matthew was shocked would be an understatement as his eyes were wide and he just stared on at the girl “you’re not Micheal.” He pointed out making her laugh “you’re right but I can promise that I’ll get your dog out of here as soon as possible.” Lilah offered as she sent him a smile.
