proud mary // han lue
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: now living a quiet life with their daughter, han and y/n reflect on how they got there, and all the good moments that are still yet to come.
pairing: han lue x wife! reader
warnings: this is a big one so listen up: mentions of post pregnancy mental illness, mentions of pregnancy and starting a a family, weddings, ignoring tokyo drift canon because I fucking can, (actually I ignored a lot of canon) han is about to activate a shit ton of daddy issues
I left a good job in the city, working for the man every night and day and I never lost one minute of sleeping, I was worrying 'bout the way the things might've been.
big wheel keeps on turning, proud mary keeps on burning. and we’re rolling, rolling, rolling down the river
2009, tokyo, japan.
the garage was dark, lit only by the moonlight and the small lamps atop the workstations. han lue had closed up hours ago, and everyone was gone save for him and his lover.
“han, what are you doing?” y/n laughed, sitting at a table scattered with nail polish bottles and a shellac brisa light. “it looks like a smudge.”
“it’s a drifting car!” han laughed, staring through the large magnifying glass that was allowing him to see the design he was attempting to paint on his lovers thumbnail. “see, there’s the spoiler and those are the headlights!”
friday night manicures had become somewhat of a tradition. y/n hated painting her nails with her non dominant hand, but she also didn’t speak enough japanese to venture out and get her nails professionally done. when she and han started dating, he offered to do it for her, easing the aggravation that sometimes came with doing mail designs yourself.
“well, now that you’ve pointed it out.” she laughed, kissing him on the cheek. “I love you.”
they had been together coming up on two years. two long, wonderful years. she was a mechanic and he was drifter, it was almost meant to be. she stopped him from getting himself killed, and in return, he loved her unconditionally.
they were sympatico like that. she loved his sense of humour, his protectiveness. he loved her smarts and the excited way she talked, animatedly and with hand gestures.
“what do you say we get out of japan for a bit?”
han should have known this question was coming. y/n was a restless spirit, never meant to stay in one place for too long. in a way, han was as well. he could tell that his lover had been more restless than usual, either from missing home or needing a change of scenery.
“a friend of mine, his name is dominic torretto, he’s got this place down in the dominican republic.” han started slowly, unsure of how much he wanted to involved her in. y/n was his whole world, and what dom and mia would be running was far bigger than street racing in shibuya.“he called me the other day wondering if I would run a job with him. but it’s not entirely legal and I don’t blame you if you don’t want any part in it.”
“baby,” she frowned, placing her hand inside the blue light machine. “of course I’ll go with you. I never pass up a chance to go somewhere sunny, and you know that I’d go anywhere with you. what we’re running here with twinkie and sean isn’t exactly legal either, you know. I’m a big girl, seoul-oh. I can handle myself.”
“I know. I just want you to know what you’re getting into. you’re important to me, y/n.”
“I know.” she said softly, running her hand up his arm as she rested her head on his shoulder, gently kissing his neck. “so when does our flight leave?”
“whenever you want it to. I haven’t even bought the tickets yet. are you ready for an adventure?”
“fuck yeah.” y/n smiled, pressing her lips to his. “but you have to paint my other nails first.”
han laughed, the kind of laugh that would always set loose the butterflies in y/n’s chest, the kind that reminded her why she fell in love with him in the first place.
“I don’t think I have it in me to paint another drifting car.”
“then what are you going to paint on my thumbnail?” y/n laughed back, looking down at her nails and realizing that her lover had actually done a very good job painting a drifting car manicure.
“I don’t know,” han shrugged. he would deny it if asked, but he actually loved painting y/n’s nails. he thought it brought them closer together, built up intimacy in their relationship.
they were moments he wouldn’t trade for the world.
“I’ll just do like a checkered flag or something.”
“but you did that on my index finger!”
laughing, y/n turned her head to kiss him. “come on, you big dork. the sooner we get my nails done, she sooner I can model that new lingerie set I bought last weekend.”
“sold!” han laughed, knocking over bottles of gel polish as he searched for the bright pink he had used to paint the car on his girlfriends other hand. “drifting car? f1 car? whatever my gorgeous gorgeous girl wants.”
“I love you, han lue.”
“love you more, pretty girl.”
2010, monte carlo, monaco.
it was set up to be another sleepless night without her lover by her side, and y/n was having none of that as she wandered the deck of the comfortable yacht, looking around at the decorations that the crew had spent the day putting up.
she was just praying that it wasn’t going to rain.
nothing was about to spoil her big day.
she scurried below deck, past a half open door through which she could hear roman pearce’s guttural snores. fingers curled around the door knob, she tried not to make any noise as she eased the door open, slipping into the cabin.
“you couldn’t sleep either?” she laughed, looking at the king size bed where her fiancé lay, phone in his hands as he texted his mother, who the crew was picking up in the harbour in the morning before the ceremony began.
“got a lot on my mind.” han shrugged. “fucking tej won’t shut up about the reception and the playlist and I’ve told him a million times that it’s not going to be some crazy rave kinda thing.” the man sat up, gesturing for his soon-to-be wife to come closer. "it's doing my head in. seriously, he wants to do a club mix of 'i would do anything for love'."
y/n snorted. han thought she looked like an angel in the low cabin light, a halo glowing around her head and shining off her white silk pajamas, the ones with the tiny shorts and 'bride' embroidered on the butt. "how the fuck do you turn the best meat loaf song in existence into a club rave song?"
"the fuck if i know." han shook his head, hands sliding up her thighs as she came to stand in between his legs. "jagi, sarang-hae."
honey, i love you.
"mhm." she hummed, a smile on her lips as she leaned down to kiss him sweetly. "i love it when you speak korean. it's so fucking sexy."
the last year had been stressful. the dominican job had been way more complex than y/n had expected, and it took a while for han's old crew to warm up to her. it took a while, but eventually she managed to crack dom toretto, and two weeks later, han got down on one knee and asked y/n to marry him.
hence why they were on a yacht off the coast of monaco, the entire thing decked out in fairly lights and tulle.
"if you think tej is bad, you try getting in between letty and those large plastic ribbons on the back of the deck chairs." y/n laughed. "who knew letty ortiz was so serious about weddings?"
she was practically sitting on his lap now, head resting comfortably on his shoulder as the boat rocked back and forth.
han seoul-oh was her home. her safe harbour. she always felt safe in his arms, at his side, even when they were plunging into almost certain danger like they had in the dominican.
"i brought you something." y/n hummed, reaching into the pockets of her shorts and withdrawing the small cardboard packet.
"fake nails?"
"help me put them on? for old time's sake." she passed him the glittery white french tips, no doubt chosen to match her dress for the ceremony tomorrow.
"i can't wait to spend my life with you. and believe me, there will be plenty more manicure mondays."
2014, monterrey, california.
"daddy, where's mommy?"
"i don't think she's feeling well, poppy." han lue frowned, looking over at his daughter, who was perched in her little kiddie chair at the kitchen table. "i'm going to go check on her, okay? stay right here."
how do you explain depression to an infant? poppy jae-i han had been one of the best things to have ever happened to han seoul-oh. but in the almost twenty-four months since their bundle of joy had been born, something had felt off about his wife.
everyone hears about the mental health complications that can come with childbirth, but no mother ever thinks it would be her.
every husband fears it, too.
"y/n, jagi?" han tried to keep his voice level as he eased open the bedroom door. the couple had bought a ranch house in monterrey when they learned they were expecting. it was one of the few things they used their ill-gotten gains as a part of dom's crew for. "poppy's asking for you."
it broke his heart to see his wife like this, hair messed and greasy, red splotches under her eyes from where she had been crying.
"am i a bad mother, seoul-oh?" she asked, voice small. she seemed so tiny and fragile underneath the layers of blankets on the queen bed. "she always seems to cry when i'm around, but never with you. poppy loves you more than she loves me."
"what?" it was all han could do to stop himself from crying as he sat on the bed, gently running his fingers through y/n's hair. "sweetheart, what's brought this on? poppy loves you. you're her mom. she needs you."
"mia makes it look so easy." y/n sniffled, pulling herself up to a sitting position. she's lost weight. not a noticeable amount, or even an unhealthy one, but enough that her husband knows. there are many things that you can hide from the man you share your bed with, but han knows. he knows she's not doing well. "and i'm fucking shit at it, han."
"look at me, pretty girl." han encouraged, reaching for her hands. "you are such a good mother. i know you're struggling right now, and i know you're hurting but you need to know that poppy loves you so much. she was asking about you over breakfast, you know."
"i don't know who i am any more. i've lost my sense of self."
han frowned, brushing a few strands of greasy hair away from her forehead before leaning down and gently kissing her hairline.
"listen, i was talking to brian last night-"
"of course you were fucking talking to brian."
"-and he thinks you should talk to mia. they're passing through town today on their way back from dom and letty's, brian and i are going to take the kids out to the zoo or whatever, and you and mia should do something." he suggested, running his hand comfortingly up and down his lover's back. "go to the mall, get a coffee. i think she could really help you. she's been through this before."
y/n inhaled shakily, pulling away from han. "what if something happens to poppy and i'm not there?"
"y/n, everything is going to be okay. i promise. brian will be there, the kids will be in great hands. go do something with mia, darling. find yourself again, yeah?"
"okay." y/n nodded, still clutching his hand like it was her lifeline. "i can do that."
"mommy?" a small voice called. poppy had managed to get herself all the way from the kitchen to the master bedroom, where han had left the door ajar just in case poppy needed them. "are you okay?"
"oh, sweetheart, come here." y/n said, tears beginning to fall.
because how could she ever think that her little bundle of joy didn't love her as much as she did? poppy waddled over to the bed, and han hefted the toddler onto the mattress so that y/n could pull her close.
"you know that mummy loves you, right?"
"yes. i love you too, mommy."
"see." han smiled. "you're going to be okay. we're going to get through this."
2017, monterrey, california.
"i genuinely can't comprehend that roman pearce is getting married."
the family of three was walking down the nail care aisle at walmart, a welcome addition to their weekly shopping trip as y/n scanned the packages on the rack for a set of acrylic nails.
han laughed, one hand around his wife's waist and his chin on her shoulder as he leaned against the shopping cart. "it's not going to last. they may be getting married on saturday but i bet that by christmas roman is going to call and tell us she asked for a divorce."
"don't be so cynical." y/n laughed, kissing her husband softly before holding up a small white box. "do these go with my dress?"
"they'll go with anything, babe." han said, moving to whisper in her ear “they'd look even better wrapped around my c-"
"i want nails like mom's!" poppy han's shout cut him off, the little girl looking at the array of disney princess nails on the lower shelves.
laughing, han knelt down next his daughter, one hand on her shoulder. "which one do you want, princess? do you want frozen, tinker bell? mulan?"
"i want the ariel ones." poppy smiled, reaching for the pack of little mermaid nails. han helped her get them off the hook before lifting her up, carrying the six year old securely against his chest.
"seoul-oh, she's like six, you're spoiling her by carrying her all the time." y/n laughed, dropping both packs of nails in the cart.
"what, she's not heavy, sweetheart." han grins. "besides, i have to stay in shape somehow."
y/n rolls her eyes. "sweetie, it's bold of you to assume that you were ever in shape. but i loved you anyways, didn't i?"
back at home, they settled in the living room, near the large bay window. y/n watched contentedly from the kitchen as han sat at the coffee table across from poppy, delicately brushing nail glue across his daughter's tiny nails, dropping the glittery little mermaid nails on top.
it had taken a while to get to this peaceful, quiet part of their life, but y/n han was so glad that they had made it. that she had seoul-oh and that she had little poppy.
"be careful with your nails, they might come off. now, go get your homework done before we make the pizza, okay?"
poppy scurried off down the hall to her room, and y/n padded across the shag carpet, looping her arms around her husbands neck as she gave him a kiss.
"i'm so lucky, you know that. i'm happy and healthy again, and i have you and poppy. that's everything i could ever ask for." she said softly, resting her head against han's chest as the man tilted his head down, pressing a gentle kiss to the top of her head.
of course they both missed the good old days. the days of adrenaline and adventure. but brian and mia had left, and then y/n and han, and soon after was letty and dom. they were moving on with their lives, a chapter of glitz and glamour coming to a close.
"i want another one."
y/n froze, pulling back from her husband. "what?"
"i want another baby. and i know what we went through last time, and i fully understand if you're not willing to take that chance again, but god, y/n, i want a big family with you." han explained, holding his wife's hands. "poppy is growing up. soon she's going to be too cool for dear old dad. and then there will be boys-"
"or she'll be like you," y/n cuts him off with a laugh. "in which case there will be lots and lots of girls."
"god help us all. my little girl is going to break a lot of hearts one day."
"and you want another one?"
"honestly? yeah, i do."
"then i guess we'd better start trying. multiplication isn't that hard, so poppy's gonna be looking for us within the next hour." y/n hummed, kissing her lover softly.
han smiled against her lips, hands slipping into her jeans pockets to cop a feel of his wife's ass. "i only need half that."

So, I'm watching The Bear S2 again, for the first time since...late Feb/March I think. It is just so fresh, gorgeous and heartfelt and I've only finished Ep. 1-2. Tina & Syd (my heart sings), Nat (love that she has way more screen time), the Richie arch is surging forward, and the comedy to drama ratio is really balanced. Anyways, I'm watching fully anticipating that we've all put too much stank on every single Sydcarmy interaction, lol. I want to be proven wrong? Or maybe Season 3 feels like Christmas Day and I'm hoping for these amazing gifts, but preparing myself to be let down. The verdict on ep. 1-2, is that minimal extra-ness has been thrust on our beloved ship. One new thing (for me) that I noticed was that Curtis Stiger's song, You Are Not Alone, was played during the last part of the episode. We see Ebram chopping vegetables at the culinary school feeling overwhelmed, then Carmy cooking at his apartment alone as the lyrics
"A broken home A broken heart
Isolated and afraid"
are sung, next we transition to Emmanuel telling Sydney about his 3rd date with her mom, and we hear "You are not alone" repeated several times. Syd tells her dad that this new venture is different because she is not alone, she has a partner. UMMMMMM...this is a callback for Episode 9!!!! Anyone remember "Syd, you're not alone?!?" Oh, and during Syd and her dad's convo the show cuts to Claire and Carmy accidentally running into each other. The obvious triangulation started on DIA NUMERO UNO!!! WE ARE NOT CRAZY!!! Chris and Joana think they are slick!!

Real talk Sung and Rook were probably really good friends. I imagine that it's like a stoic!Detective&Tina's dynamic. So when Rook dies outside of his duties to the station he begins to hate the sketchy agency.
Then imagine if the detective joined the force to avoid jail time and how many strings Sung had to pull to get his friend's kid out of trouble. Only for Rebecca to come back and drag them into the agency that killed their father.
No wonder those two don't like each other.

Lover Please (Negan Smith)
Tumblr media
 Negan Masterlist
Warning: mention of cheating, angst
Summary: Story inspired by the song - Lover Please by Melissa Etheridge. You find out that your husband has been cheating on you.
Dividers created by @firefly-graphics
Tumblr media
A shot in the dark
I woke up to find
You had broke all the rules
And you changed your mind
It was almost midnight, and you were sitting in the dark living-room; head buried in your hands as you silently cried into them.
Your phone lying on the table in front of you, the text message from your friend, Tina still open on its screen.
“He didn’t see me, but I saw him, thought I should let you know…”
Right below that message was a picture of your husband; arms wrapped around another woman as he passionately kissed her.
Negan and you had been happily married for three years now, or so you had thought… because according to the picture your friend had just sent you, it was perfectly clear that your husband had been stepping out on your marriage.
*
Didn’t I love you good?
Didn’t I love you right?
Then tell me where are you going
Dressed to kill tonight?
Oh, this one’s gonna hurt like hell
Friends and family had warned you back then about marry Negan, warned you that he was a womanizer.
You didn’t listen to them though, you foolishly believed he would change once your relationship had gotten serious.
Oh, you were foolish alright… foolish to believe that you could ever change him.
Foolish to believe that your love would be enough to keep him faithful.
*
Answer my prayer
And answer the phone
Think twice about it, honey
Turn around and come on home
You had called his phone twice immediately after getting the message, but it had gone straight to voicemail.
You even contemplated on sending him a text not to come home, along with the picture but quickly change your mind; you wanted to confront him face to face.
Now all you had to do was patiently wait for his arrival home while your heart slowly died as the time ticked by for him to get here.
*
Lover, stop!
Lover, don’t!
Lover, stop!
Lover, lover, please
This wasn’t the first time that Negan had cheated on you, there had been quite a few women he had been seeing behind your back when the two of you had first started dating.
It had hurt when you found out about it, but the relationship was still fresh then.
You both were still testing the waters; trying to see whether there was a real future for the two of you, so you decided to remain silent about it; giving him the opportunity to decide what he truly wanted.
After a few months into your relationship; you couldn’t handle it anymore though and decided to confront him about it.
*
It’s the same old tune
I have sung before
It’s the same game
It’s just a different score
When you confronted Negan about the other women; he apologized and begged you for a second chance and swore to you that he was done with that life. That you were the only woman he wanted, the only woman that he loved.
And the fool that you were, you believed him.
You believed that he had grown out of his old ways and was finally ready for a committed relationship, a faithful relationship.
Unfortunately, you were dead wrong.
*
If there was just one thing
I could call my own
It would be your love
That’s sinking like a stone
Oh, this one’s gonna hurt like hell
You woke up to the sound of the car pulling up in the driveway.
Looking to the clock on the wall, you notice that it was well past after 2am.
You try as best to compose yourself before he enters into the house; fixing your hair and wiping away the tears that had stained your cheeks.
*
Answer my prayer
And answer the phone
Think twice about it, baby
Turn around and come on home
The door rattles a bit as Negan unlocks it, and you silently watch as he enters into the dark living-room.
Reaching to switch on the lights, Negan is caught off-guard at seeing you sitting at the table.
“Hey, whatya doing sitting in the dark?” he stares at you with an awkwardly surprised smile.
You don’t respond, choosing to silently stare at him instead.
“Baby, you ok?” Negan looks at you in concern.
You silently stare at him for a few more seconds, shaking your head at him in response then as one last silent tear ran down your cheek.
*
Lover, stop!
Lover, don’t!
Lover, stop!
Lover, lover, please
This one’s gonna hurt like hell…

zb1 members as iconic american teen movie characters from the 2000s (late 90's as well) with little to no explanation
these are thoughts i had. @incorrectzbone gave feedback. it was for fun. please do not send hate (whether active aggressive or passive aggressive). thank you :)
also i haven't watched these in forever. heheh.
1. sung hanbin — the french guy that mia and lily spend maybe three seconds admiring in the princess diaries 2: royal engagement when trying to find a suitable husband. reason being that that character was described as being a "delightful dancer" (julie andrews portraying clarisse renaldi) and also he had a boyfriend.
2. kim jiwoong — nicholas devereaux from the princess diaries 2: royal engagement. reason being whyever the fuck not.
3. zhang hao — cady heron from mean girls.
4. kim taerae — we both agreed that taerae would be laney from she's all that. also, gretchen in mean girls.
5. seok matthew — joseph gordon levitt's character in ten things i hate about you: the kid that was trying to woo bianca.
6. shen ricky — remember that model douchebag that was trying to woo bianca as well? the one who carried around pictures of himself and showed it to everyone? sorry to break it to you, folks, but the vibes are vibing.
7. kim gyuvin — the guy from she's the man.
8. park gunwook — emmett from legally blonde. uncontested.
9. han yujin — casper from casper the friendly ghost. this is neither a teen movie, nor from the 90's or 00's. however, i am not wrong :)
misc. mentions:
haruto as damian (mean girls)
seowon as karen (mean girls)
woongki as regina (mean girls)
lee jeonghyeon as aaron (mean girls) because jaw.
lee seokhoon as the principal (mean girls)
solji as tina fey's character (mean girls)
park hanbin as patrick verona (ten things i hate about you)
everyone say thank you to @/incorrectzbone for feeding my delusions because i am currently in an enemies to one-sided lovers relationship with park hanbin. it's all very kat of me.

The Pirate station, Radio Scotland began broadcasting in the dying embers of Hogmanay, 1965.
Radio Scotland was a Scottish pirate radio station which broadcast at various points off the Scottish coast between 1965 and 1967, with a mix of pop music and programmes of Scottish interest. It was conceived of and run by publicity and advertising executive Tommy Shields onboard a former Irish lightship, built on the Clyde, named The Comet. Radio Scotland's first broadcast was at 11:50pm on Hogmanay, 31st December 1965, on 1241 kilohertz, 242 metres.
After refitting for her new role in the Channel Islands she had been towed to a position four miles off Dunbar, in the Firth of Forth. Because of delays during the journey north, the ship didn't arrive at the anchorage until early on 30th December, giving the engineers only a few hours to set up the equipment. It was a frantic race against time but the station just made it on air before midnight, albeit at reduced power and with no opportunity to run tests. The first voice on the new station belonged to DJ Paul Young a former presenter of Scottish Television's Roundup programme who welcomed the listeners. He introduced the managing director Tommy Shields, who went on to detail their plans. Radio Scotland was on the air and open for business. The station also broadcast from water near Troon and Northern Ireland over its one-and-a-half years.
While navigating and planting the boat, crew had to be careful to avoid territorial waters, primarily due to the strict laws imposed on the pirate stations by the government of the day. Featuring everything from “modern” rock’n’roll to ceilidh favourites, the station soon became a sensation across Scotland as well as Ireland and northern England, where the signal was also picked up.
With its audience of one million listeners a week in its prime, Radio Scotland was very close to realising Shield’s dream of becoming a successful independent Scottish station.
Joining English stations such as Radio Caroline, Radio Scotland was the only pirate radio station to be formed north of the Border, and soon took its place amongst the big six pirate stations.
People could join the membership of the station and become Radio Scotland “Clan Members”. As a reward, the Clan had their own show every Saturday where they could send in requests, which, alongside Jack McLaughlin’s ceilidh slot, was one of the most popular programmes broadcast.
The station even had its own fanzine called “242” – named after its frequency. The 242 magazine featured interviews with the biggest stars of the day, including The Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Tina Turner, but station managers never quite tempted any of the stars on board the infamous boat.
The pirate station’s theme song was a jaunty wee number sung by folk band The Carrick Folk Four. Finishing off the upbeat ditty were the lines: “Oh Radio Scotland’s playing just for you/So beat the ban, and join the Clan, on station 242.”
Although they received many a plaudit, Radio Scotland was plagued with troubles from the very beginning. A poor signal and periods off-air led to a steep decline in advertising revenue and a frustrated fanbase, while fires on board the vessel and the hazardous North Sea conditions did little to help ease its problems.
In a piece in the Edinburgh Weekly just days after the station was laid to rest, Tony Mark wrote: “The death penalty in this country is supposed to have been abolished, yet here we are mourning the execution of what was surely the sound sensation of both 66’ and 67’ as far as Scotland is concerned.”
Although the station had a short life, as is often the case with such ventures, and was taken off the air in the 60s, Radio Scotland inspired a tribute station, which began broadcasting in the mid 70s.
Radio Scotland International, an independently run pirate station broadcasting to Europe from its base in Holland, started in 1975 and has been going ever since.
http://www.radioscotland.nl/
For around 20 months his modest little boat made huge waves and pulled Scotland into the "swinging sixties".
The first pic is Tommy Shields unveiling his pirate ship , the last is the stations first DJ Paul Young then, and as "Shug" in the BBC's Still Game

glee is so hard to watch because everyone’s so obsessed with rachel. in literally every episode of the first season they’re like “we can’t do glee without rachel we might as well just cancel the whole club if she’s not here” as if mercedes isn’t right there. it’s not like they gave the other kids a shot at trying her parts. everyone there is so incredibly talented and they just get ignored in favor of this spoiled, whiny little brat. in the fourth episode of the show, rachel quits the club because someone else gets a solo. instead of saying lol good riddance a spoiled, whiny little brat would slow this club down and make all of the other kids feel like shit, everyone is like no rachel is so so talented she’s the most talented person in the world and nobody else compares so we have to get her back actually. meanwhile mercedes, santana, and tina could have sung all of her solos just as well if not better than she could. and they still win when she’s not in charge. in sectionals of both seasons two and three she’s not there and they still win! i hate you rachel berry and i hate you ryan murphy and justice for mercedes jones.

You Are Not Alone, Carmy
Tumblr media
It is very interesting that You Are Not Alone by Mavis Staples starts to play in the background when the ceiling collapses on Richie then we see Ebra at culinary school by himself and then boom, a train scene(who usually takes the train? Sydney bear). In the background the song continues to play and the lyrics are, ‘’can’t be sung by two?’’
Tumblr media
After the train scene, the next scene is Carmy looking sad and the lyrics are ‘’a broken home. A broken heart. Isolated and afraid’.
Tumblr media
After the Carmy scene, it goes to Syd and her dad and the lyrics are ‘’ open up this is a raid. I wanna to get it through to you. You’re not alone’’. The song continues to play as Syd’s dad talks about mama Adamu and they blow the candle and the song continues to play and the lyrics are , ‘’I’m gonna get it through to you. You’re not alone’’. The song ends after Syd and Emmanuel blow the candle.
Tumblr media
It is easy to think that this is just a song playing in the background but Christopher Storer and team are too clever. Ebra at the start of the season is afraid and he avoids continuing culinary school. He is ‘isolated and afraid’ and in some of the scenes he looks alone, but he has Tina and at the end he is not isolated and afraid. Richie at the beginning of the season, he is trying to find his purpose and he tries to ‘supervise’ during renovation but he finds that Marcus and Fak have an alliance so he looks isolated and afraid, but after the Fork episode, he has found his purpose and he is not alone. So you see, You Are Not Alone song is not just a song! It is a sign of what is to come later in the season.
With Carmy, he starts the season with Syd by his side and they are even matching clothes in Pasta so he is not isolated and afraid because Syd is there. However, once he meets Claire, he starts to drop the ball but after the under table scene, we think Carmy will now be good to Syd, but unfortunately he gets stuck in the walk-in and he is literally isolated and afraid so unlike Richie and Ebra who developed throughout season 2, Carmy went backwards and is now alone. I think in season 3, we will continue to see Carmy be ‘isolated and afraid’ until he opens up and allows Sydney to ‘get through to’ him. Why will it be Sydney? I say that because, did you see that it was Sydney that brought out the lighter for mama Adamu’s birthday cake? Why does Sydney have a lighter? That girl don’t smoke but you know who smokes? Carmen Anthony Berzatto. I rest my case.
Tumblr media
Also, remember that after screwing under the table, Carmy tells Syd that she is not alone and Syd says ‘’neither are you.’’ Everything connects!!!

The Winner Takes It All
Summary: Kurt and Blaine are researchers at the theatre department of NYU. After finishing a paper, they need to decide the order of authorship. Since they contributed to the research equally, Blaine suggests a Broadway sing-off contest to determine it with the winner becoming the first author.
Kurt loves Blaine’s idea. But he also has an agenda on his own.
Notes: This is a little, somewhat cracky fic inspired by this post on WTF, Scientific Papers? and I knew I wanted to Klaine-ify it. Thank you Beth @quizasvivamos and Gwen @cerriddwenluna with brainstorming for the title.
Enjoy!
AO3 | S&C
“Finally!”
Kurt holds up his hand for a high-five. Blaine enthusiastically gives one. After months of hard labour, their academic paper is done and it’s ready to be submitted to a journal for the review process. They’ve spent hours and hours researching queer representation in Broadway by overanalysing Broadway scripts and it has paid off.
Well, it’s almost done. They need to decide the order of the authorship. In academics, the author who has contributes the most gets credited first, but this was a collaborative process. They had a fair share in their work.
But luckily, Blaine had thought ahead.
“When we’re finished, we need to do a Broadway sing-off. Whoever wins is named first.”
Kurt immediately was on board. It reminded him of the diva-offs from high school. They both already picked a song and they even found volunteers to judge. Luckily, the people in the NYU theatre department know how to judge a performance.
“So, I guess it is time then?” Blaine says once they’ve calmed down their celebration.
Kurt nods.
“Let’s text the others for a time and date.”
“Bring it on,” Blaine holds out his hand as a sign of sportsmanship and Kurt shakes it. When he touches Blaine, he feels warm in his chest, but he pushes that down. That’s what he’s been doing during the entire process of working together, since he can’t afford to swoon on the job.
But my God, Kurt wants to swoon. How can one not swoon over Blaine Anderson?
Blaine doesn’t make it easy, especially when he gives Kurt a wink. He’s so good-mannered and playful. Blaine came with this whole idea in the first place and it perfectly fits Blaine.
Kurt quickly lets go of Blaine’s hand so that he can text his colleagues.
--
A few days later, Kurt, Blaine and some colleagues are gathered in the lounge. Kurt has picked a specific song weeks ago, but he’s a bit nervous to perform it. Not because he thinks he’s going to fail. Kurt knows he can sing. He’s confident about his performance. It’s the song he’s nervous about.
He’s making a risky move, he knows it.
“Welcome everyone!” Rachel says into the mic. Of course she volunteered to lead this sing-off the moment Kurt and Blaine told her of their plan.
Kurt is standing on her left on the small make-shift stage. Blaine’s on her right. Artie has dimmed the light and he’s shining a desk lamp in their faces as an impromptu stage light.
“Artie, can you please tone it down!” Rachel says harshly, which is rude, but she isn’t wrong.
“Sorry,” Artie mutters and Kurt blinks. Now he can actually see his small audience. All of the theatre department are gathered in the staff room.
Rachel clears her throat.
“Dear guests, welcome to the sing-off between Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson,” Rachel says and people in the room cheer and applaud. Kurt and Blaine share a smile behind Rachel’s back. Man, their colleagues are great.
“Go Kurt!” Mercedes yells.
“Go Blaine!” Tina yells back.
Rachel shushes the crowd.
“Guys, guys, they haven’t even sung yet. Oh my God. Ahem, as I was saying, welcome. As you all may know, Kurt and Blaine have worked tremendously hard on their latest article, named We are who we are: Queering Broadway and beyond-”
The audience erupts into another round of applause. Rachel has to do more crowd control, but Kurt and Blaine don’t mind. They indeed worked hard, so they appreciate the feedback.
“Anyway, since these lovely gentlemen have contributed an equal amount, they decided to-”
“Can they sing already?” Santana hollers from the back, “We all read the invitation. We want to see the action!”
Rachel turns red, but the audience seems to agree. Kurt has to stifle a laugh. Rachel does love unnecessary dramatics and speeches.
“Ahem,” Rachel says again. She actually says the word ‘ahem’. “Very well. Kurt, Blaine, please step forward.”
They do.
Rachel takes a coin out of her bedazzled purse.
“Head or tails?” she asks.
“Head!” Blaine yells.
“Tails!” Kurt exclaims at the same time.
It’s not a discussion. Kurt and Blaine have worked for long enough to know each other’s preferred coin side.
Rachel flips the coin and shows that head has won. Blaine fist bumps the air and he looks adorable. Normally, Kurt would be enthralled by it, but now his mind is reeling. Blaine is going first. Kurt knew that there was a 50% chance that it would happen, but he still doesn’t know if this benefits him, or if this is detrimental to his plan.
If he were to go first, it would be like ripping off the Band-Aid. No time to overthink it. But now he goes last, which means he has to sit with his decision a bit longer. Fuck, why did he agree to this? They should’ve just done a coin flip, like now.
“Alright, give it up for our very own Blaine Anderson!” Rachel cheers and the audience follows suit. Kurt and Rachel take a seat so that the focus is on Blaine and oh boy, Kurt is focusing. Kurt is focusing hard.
Although he almost loses focus when Blaine walks off stage to grab a guitar. What is he planning?
“Alright everyone,” Blaine says to the crowd as he strums his guitar, “I won’t keep you waiting.”
Then he looks right at Kurt.
“Kurt, this is for you. May the best singer win. Artie?”
Artie nods and he hits play on the YouTube video. The mood is instantly killed when they first have to sit through two 30 second long ads, and Sam chastises Artie for not having an AdBlocker installed, but Kurt uses this extra minute to compose himself.
He definitely needs it when the music starts playing and he recognises it. Blaine plays his guitar to go along.
When the earth was still flat And clouds made of fire And mountains stretched up to the sky Sometimes higher
“Holy shit,” Rachel mutters, but Kurt isn’t paying attention on her. His eyes are fixated on Blaine, and Blaine keeps staring back. Kurt sits back in his chair and he feels… well… overwhelmed. Blaine is serenading Kurt.
Or so it seems.
I mean, why else would Blaine sing a song called Origin of Love while looking at Kurt like that? Blaine loses himself in the music and Kurt can feel the emotion. He’s shook to the core. All the love and affection that he’s been bottling up are resurfacing.
When Blaine’s finished and everyone is clapping, Kurt’s in tears.
“Well?” Blaine asks Kurt.
He slings his guitar over his shoulder and he looks so earnest. Kurt stands up to face him and-
“You dickhead!” he yells out. Tears flow down his cheeks and Blaine looks flabbergasted and saddened. The room has gone dead silent and Kurt can feel Rachel’s hand on his arm.
“Kurt-”
“No, no, no!” Kurt cuts Blaine off, “Damnit, Blaine, you stole my thunder! I had it all planned out and now you come in and do the same fucking thing?”
“What…” Blaine still looks confused, but instead of saddened, he’s hopeful.
“This was going to be my big moment. I’ve spent all week going over this, trying to find the perfect song to serenade you with, and you do this!” Kurt yells through his tears, but then he starts laughing.
“You… were going to serenade me?”
“Yes! I had it all planned out. I was even going to say that my name is Kurt Hummel and that I am auditioning for the role of Blaine’s boyfriend-”
And the next thing Kurt knows, Blaine’s jumped off the stage and he plants a big kiss on Kurt’s lips. Their audience goes wild and Kurt can’t help but feel incredibly happy. They keep kissing until Rachel coughs.
Kurt and Blaine look at their bemused colleagues. No one seems super surprised and Brittany gives Mike a 10 dollar bill.
“Uhm, Kurt, as wonderful as this all is… you still need to perform. This is a competition.”
Kurt feels like he’s already won, but she’s right.
“Good luck,” Blaine says. He gives Kurt another quick kiss, which makes Puck whistle, before setting the guitar aside and sitting next to Rachel. Kurt takes his spot on the stage and he gives a thumb up to Artie.
After another round of annoying YouTube ads, the song that Kurt carefully picked out starts to play.
The moon First time I heard your voice Moonlight burst into the room
Blaine eyes light up when he realises that Kurt is singing No One Else. Kurt thought this was going to be his big confession, but now that the hard part has been done, he can unapologetically make sure that Blaine understands the message.
When Kurt’s finished, he takes a bow and everyone cheers.
Rachel gets up.
“Alright. I will give you all 5 minutes to deliberate on your choice. And Kurt and Blaine can use these 5 minutes to make out some more-”
“Wanky!” Santana hoots.
“-before we come back with the results.”
--
“What do you mean it’s a tie?” Rachel says when she sees that the same amount of hands are in the air for each candidate.
“Well… they were both outstanding,” Quinn, who has her hand raised in Kurt’s favour, says, “I mean, I am picking Kurt, but honestly, I am not sure about it either. Blaine was so good.”
“Yeah, I get that,” Finn says with a shrug. He voted for Blaine. “Kurt fucking killed it.”
Everyone in the room murmurs their agreement. Rachel looks like she’s going to lose it, so Kurt cuts in before she can say anything else.
“Uh, Rachel, if I may?”
Rachel pouts, but she steps aside.
“Everyone, thank you. And thank you for allowing us to express our feelings towards each other.”
“Yeah,” Blaine says and he takes Kurt’s hand in his, which leads to another round of cheers.
Kurt tries not to blush.
“Anyway, I think this is not going to result in anything, so how about we do it the old fashioned way after all?”
Blaine raises an eyebrow, but he catches on quickly.
“Head!” he yells.
“Tail!” Kurt shouts at the same time.
“Rachel, will you do the honour?”
Rachel beams. Yes, she will. She takes out the coin and flips it.

Acknowledgments
Both authors, as usual, contributed to this paper equally. A Broadway sing-off was used to determine the order of the authors’ names. After a tie, a classic heads or tails was used. This happens every time the authors publish a paper together. They do not mind.
–
End notes: Fun fact, I did an actual coin flip to decide who would get to be the first author on their paper. Then I switched it up for their later papers only to remember that bibliography is ordered alphabetically so I changed it to Blaine for the first couple of papers. I had a lot of fun coming up with their wacky paper names. There are also some smaller easter eggs in the APA. Hehehehehe.

Article: Claudia Lennear, The Inspiration Behind 'Brown Sugar,' Regrets Song Leaving Rolling Stones' Live Set - Spin
Claudia Lennear, The Inspiration Behind 'Brown Sugar,' Regrets Song Leaving Rolling Stones' Live Set - Spin
As I imagined the song was inspired by a gorgeous black woman, a brilliant (multilingual!) and talent major back-up singer.
If SHE is okay with the song, then other people should lighten up. (Save your offense for actual racists. Goodness knows there are enough of those to criticize!)
Besides... it's just a great DANCE song. The rhythm guitar riffs are amazing.
