i think a lot about the time i got into a (polite) comment argument with a feminist blogger because this person had written a post about how problematic it was that glee was conflating sexuality and gender identity because kurt was a gay guy but he used the girls’ bathroom which is a thing trans people do and i was trying to explain that i hadn’t watched the show but i was pretty sure he was just supposed to be a gay guy who used the girls’ bathroom like ricky from my so-called life or my actual then-close friend from my literal real high school experience that actually happened

#he wasn’t even out in high school he self-described as a male lesbian #his explanation was just that boys and their bathrooms were disgusting which like fair #it’s possible some people minded but as far as i experienced it we all just like Understood #and it made sense bc socially he was one of the girls #this virtual encounter lingers with me i think bc it’s got some Layers #the most obvious of which is like. yknow. people really are out here Generalizing Unwarrantedly about uh #everyone’s personal relationship to gender and bathroom usage #and also i really feel like an underappreciated feature of this conversation is that like #men’s bathrooms specifically are an unwelcoming and potentially unsafe space for….. a variety of people…..#but also the convo in retrospect #(shaded by the fact that i later came to decide this blogger was annoying lol)#feels very… very Chronically Online in an early way
