i think there are certain things about fanon jason that fans have said happen in canon more frequently than they do (protecting sex workers or victims of abuse for example) and I’d prefer if Jason were to actually do those things on his own
You have to excuse me but I slept zero hours in the last 2 days. I will try to be short but I probably won't.
1) if someone says Jason did something in canon that he had not, or tries to spin fanon as comics canon specifically, that's obviously wrong, as in not factually correct. I understand the feeling; I am, too, frustrated with similar instances of fanon things framed as canon, or simply misconceptions. Like: Jason wanted to kill Tim Drake in Titans Tower and slit his throat. Or, Bruce is a good father.
2) that said, Jason being protective of victims of sexual violence and exploitation, especially children, women, and sex workers is not fanon at all. And basically, there's going to be four of five stories that get cited for that. Feel free to add links in reblogs for already existing mega popular threads on that. Because when we're talking about Jason fans saying it's canon, well - that is exactly the sort of posts that do.
and believe me, most of us who talk about canon, actually read canon, and actually want more of it in canon as well
3) Now, difference between blink and you missed canon, headcanon, and fanon could be defined differently, but how I define it, with a few examples:
Blink and you miss it canon: Jason being a victim of sexual abuse as a child, and/or sexual exploitation. Where it's from: nixed AIDS storyline; Winnick work with Green Arrow, I don't remember exact name; Morrison's video that Bruce recorded for Jason. Or, another example: Bruce killing Jason in the UtRH. Mind you, it didn't take, but.
It's fine if you disregard it. Because pick and choose your canon. If you don't like something, off with it. But it's what writers intended.
Another example: Jason being overprotective of victims of sexual violence, sexual workers, and children.
Headcanon: based on both Urban Legends and lead up to Death in the Family since at least Dumpster Slasher, I may headcanon that Jason wasn't a victim himself but instead had been a powerless witness of his mother being a victim of sexual exploitation or assault. Which led him to push Robbie the drug dealer down the stairs. Then, as he gets retraumatized during his time as Robin, it repeats with Jason pushing Felipe down the balcony. Another example: Jason is immortal now.
It's something that heavily based on canon, extrapolated from it. It makes sense to the people who subscribe to headcanon but not necessarily to others, and that's fine.
Another example: Jason during his time as a crime lord, also used his power and influence to be "the roof" for sexual workers, based on a) his known protectiveness of them b) a line in Batman and Robin (I think).
Fanon: Jason currently being a sexual worker to finance his vigilante life, as he stopped being the crime lord/gave the club to Suzie Su. Or, another example: Jason having a special relationship with Death, seeing ghosts, but in a different way than in canon (in canon he sees ghosts of All Caste and he died twice and came back so something definitely up, but the fanon I'm talking about is more clear cut like him being a medium or necromancer or something else).
It's something that usually has been inspired by canon but mostly is about "wouldn't it be cool if". Could be freely ignored, might sometimes become very popular so people would think it's canon.
Another example: Jason is boondocks saint of Park Row. Cool concept, never showed or hinted at on page.
4) people who don't read comics have their own canon based on Ao3, Tumblr, Twitter, whatever. Your canon is created by DC, theirs by you. By our collective subconsciousness. I think they're clear winners in life here because sometimes it's a real pain, reading comics.
5) I know all about dumb takes and looking for fics you want to read and not finding them because people have just their own canon - that's fanon for you; or they might have just read different comics. Like. Have you read all Jason appearances? I didn't. Look. I struggle very very much with reading comics. And lately, I have had difficulties with reading at all. So. I won't be a person who is like: you don't read comics, you're not a true fan, you don't know who Jason is, you're delusional or laughable or unpleasant. All of which are the takes real people on this website really have. But so what? If pick and choose your canon is true, then it's true for everyone, okay. Just be careful when you go into discussions.
And I am not saying you are not allowed to be mad about someone's dumb opinions on your favorite character, or the character you love to hate, or anyone else. Or that you can't vent, or rant about it on your blog. You are.
But so is true for anyone else who might not like your takes on canon, your fics, your headcanon or fanon. Just keep it civil so that the fandom would be less toxic.
And by you I don't mean you as a person who sent me an ask, but general you.
6) I am falling asleep a bit. What did we start with? "Certain things about Fanon Jason that fans said happened in canon more frequently that they did". Okay, if things happened in canon, they're canon, if they didn't, they didn't. If someone says something happened in canon when it didn't, they might be either mistaken, or misremembering things, or don't read comics canon and so you can basically consider they have another canon, like sometimes people write about only Arkham Knight, or only in Young Justice the cartoon series, etc. It's the same Jason, but different. You can only stop them from writing what you don't like by making them interested in what you like. And being judgmental is never a good way to go about it. I'm not talking about you here, but again, more in general.
7) Wanting things you're interested in to be portrayed in canon is a natural thing, and I am 💯 behind the notion that someone - I have high hopes about Martinborough (I have probably totally misspelled his name, I'm sorry) - writes Jason exactly like protector of the most vulnerable people he has kinship or similar experience with. Put him in Park Row, Hills, Narrows, East End in general, and just make him make good here, extrapolating from what's already been established about his character before DitF and cemented in Lost Days.
I fucking hope this all makes as much sense as it has in my head. Have a good day.

In Praise of our Local Stouts
Tumblr media
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I thought I’d take some time to write a love letter to stout – particularly the various amazing stouts we have in the Central/Eastern Ontario area.
When most people think of a stout, they think of Guinness, an Irish dry stout. Guinness is one of the most popular beers in the world, so it’s not surprising to see such a strong connection between style and brand – particularly among less craft-oriented beer drinkers. Still, I think there are still misconceptions about Irish dry stouts, mainly that they are “heavy” or “filling”.
An irish stout will usually be a very dark red or black in colour and have a thick, foamy head. It is this combination that gives the perception of them being a richer or heavier sitting beer than your average golden lager. In fact, a 12 ounce serving of Guinness has 125 calories and is just 4% alcohol. By contrast, Coors Banquet has 149 calories in a 12 ounce serving, while Bud Light comes in at 110 calories. Because calories in beer correlate more with alcohol content than anything else, Guinness and Irish stouts in general are lower in alcohol and come in closer to the light beer range in terms of calories.
Two other common types of stout are the Oatmeal Stout – as the name implies, a more full bodied, smoother tasting beer and the Russian Imperial Stout - usually a somewhat sweet, even boozy beer that tends to be very high in alcohol content. It’s my contention that the very best examples of each of these styles can be found not far from Peterborough, so with all that out of the way, let’s talk about some great local stouts.
Tumblr media
With it being St. Patrick’s Day, we have to start with the Irish Stout and there is no better Irish Stout going that Olde Stone Brewing Company’s Or Dubh Stout. Perhaps they have a slight advantage as the only way to drink this beer is as intended – on a nitro tap at the brewery/restaurant. That said, it is perfect every single time – creamy head with tons of chocolate and coffee flavor. In recent years I’ve been less inclined to spend St. Paddy’s at the bars (a gathering at somebody’s house suits me much better) but every year I make sure I get down to the Olde Stone at some point to enjoy an Or Dubh Stout. It is the Irish stout to which all others must try to compare.
In terms of Oatmeal Stouts, one of the very best examples of this beer is found in Eastern Ontario as well – a bit of a hike east on the 401, but it’s worth it to enjoy Ships in the Night Oatmeal Stout by Stone City Ales. Compared to the Or Dubh, this one is a smooth, thicker tasting, more nut/roasted oats influenced stout. There are a few examples of readily available Oatmeal stouts at the LCBO (St. Ambroise being the most notable) but this one rises above all them in my books. I have to say, this is probably my favourite “fancy” beer glass in my collection as well.
Tumblr media
In terms of Russian Imperial Stouts, my favourite comes from the Durham area – Whitby to be exact, where 5 Paddles’ Midnight Paddler is the gold standard. This is a sweeter stout, coming in at 9.9% ABV. There are a few variations on this one (a barrel aged version, a sour version) but for my money the original is the best. More hops come through in this stout but it’s very well balanced with a strong roasted malt flavor. Because it comes in a 750ml bottle and has such a high alcohol content, this one is great for sharing or sipping over an extended period of time. I chose Midnight Paddler as my drink on the afternoon of Christmas Day, opening it up at the start of “Love Actually” and making it last throughout. This beer shouldn’t be drank ice cold either, as it sits and warms a bit, even more flavor comes out.
While these are my favourite examples of each style of stout, each has its limitations in terms of regularly drinking them – the Or Dubh is only available at the brewery with no cans/bottles/growlers available to take it home, Ships in the Night is readily available in Kingston at the brewery but that’s a 2 hour drive from Peterborough and Midnight Paddler is fantastic but it’s only so often you want to drink an almost 10 percent beer. That in mind, at this time of year, more often than not I reach for the O’Leerie Stout by Publican House Brewery. O’Leerie is the winter seasonal at the Publican House, so it’s only available for a few months each year. I always look forward to its arrival and make sure to grab a few extras at the end of the season. O’Leerie, as the name suggests, is another Irish stout. It’s easy drinking at 4.6% and is dominated by a rich chocolate flavour.
The other Irish stout I reach for often is Mill Street Cobblestone Stout. In their marketing of this one, Mill Street make it very clear that their aim is to make a local/craft version of a Guinness-style stout - and they succeed. Mill Street has always been a “big” craft brewery (and now they are owned by Labatt/ABInBev) and they benefit from their size by being the only craft stout with the widget to nitrogen infuse their beer when poured from the can. This allows the drinker to have the wonderful creamy stout head at home. Plus it’s fun as hell to watch the head cascade to the top. On top of that, Mill Street has fantastic distribution of their products – I can pick up Cobblestone Stout at the Sobey’s around the corner. For a great pub-like Irish stout at home, it’s hard to top Cobblestone.
Tumblr media
It’s not just me who loves these beers, in The Ontario Craft Beer Guide by Robin Leblanc and Jordan St. John (GO BUY IT RIGHT NOW!), Cobblestone, Ships in the Night and Or Dubh Stout are ranked as the top 3 stouts in Ontario. Amazing beer fairly readily available in the area surrounding Peterborough.
There are other great stouts in the area as well. One of my my very favourite area breweries is Northumberland Hills Brewery in Cobourg. Their Lights Out Stout isn’t as easy to classify (too strong to be an Irish Stout, not strong enough to be an Imperial and not a strong oatmeal flavour) - sometimes a stout is just a stout, but it is fantastic – really well balanced with a strong coffee flavour.
Haliburton Highlands Brewery has recently undergone a huge expansion and have a new Irish Dry Stout. I haven’t had it near as often as the others on the list but first impressions were very good. In Minden/Carnarvon, Boshkung Breweries’ King Kung Imperial Stout isn’t as strong (in alcohol or flavour) as the Midnight Paddler and was a bit sweet on my first taste of it but while I was at the brewery, the brewer mentioned they may look to increase the hops in this one to offset some of that sweet flavour that overrides it right now.
One last Irish Stout I have to give some love to is Duggans Number 7 Irish Stout. This beer isn’t easily accessible in Peterborough, both times I’ve had it have been at Duggans Brewery itself on Queen West in Toronto but if you’re in that area, it is 100% worth a stop – very smooth, easy drinking Irish stout.
Any thoughts on stouts? Any favourites I haven’t mentioned? This is the first blog post on beer I’ve done, any feedback in that regard, let me know with a comment or even better on Twitter (mattcampbell9).
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Tаrоt Card Reading is a Mystic Art of the Future - Proclaim - Learn Some Facts
This science is considered as a tool of magicians, or one of the most popular tools of black magical insight powers. This conception has made this art so popular that people are very curious to understand this through various books and sites.
Modern American play-cards deck has a similarity with that tаrоt reading cards. The word tаrоt is derived from an Italian word "tarrocchino" which was a gambling play cards game. According to some historic evidences, it can be said those cards were also used to teach children about virtues and morals. Even today, this game is popular among Europeans.
In early twentieth century, some of the deck makers introduced novel versions of play cards. People who were curious in paranormal activities and fond of black magic attach personal interpretations to this game. Now the market is full of such tаrоt reading decks with several manuals and booklets.
Such decks are named after designers. For example: Robin Wood deck, Aleister Crowley deck etc. Marseille tаrоt is a traditional deck used in tаrоt reading. Interpretations are made according the symbolism of a card. Rider wait tаrоt reading is also on the high today. Generally, tаrоt desk consists four suits. The symbolism is attached to each suit like Pentacles is normally associated with material things like body, earthly issues, wealth etc.
Passions and desires are associated with Wands, Swords is for troubles, pains and hardships.
22 cards in each suit suggest a character commenting on the gradation and situation. Those have characters like world, judgment, the sun, the moon, the star, the tower, the devil, temperance, death, the hanged man, the justice, the wheel of fortune, the hermit, strength, the chariot, the lovers, the Hierophant, the Emperor, the Empress, the high priestess, the magician, and the fool. All these 22 characters are having different interpretations by tаrоt readers.
ESTE ES MI CANAL
Very few arcane signs are simply interpreted like Temperance and the lovers. Otherwise, it is too difficult to find out exact interpretation of those cards. As devil has a negative shade in meaning but in some cases, it symbolizes rebellious actions against so-called traditional system. A hanged man also has various shades of interpretations related to an ending. Generally this card has a duel perspective for the hanged man is hanged by his feet so, there are various meanings added to it than a death.
Tаrоt card can be used for future proclamation, introspection and even in magical spell outs. According to few people, this is more effective in meditation than in future telling. Way of getting your answers, is, you have to choose cards from the suits in front of you at the time you question and answer. Those cards interpret the nature and seriousness of your question. The same way, you have to pick other cards to reach to an answer. Those symbols are used to interpret your answer related to your fortune queries, personal problems and about your future.
Positions of various cards are suggestive of your present condition, fate, fears, recent past and such other things. Normally five to fifteen cards spread is used in various tarots reading style. The position of a card and its symbol suggests answers related to your question.
This interesting and fascinating art have many misconceptions too. Therefore, tаrоt reading has a strange magical fairy curiosity among people. When you actually start studying this science, your interest will grow to such an extent that you will start loving this magic. Tаrоt readers and some books, websites are some sources which may help you in this regard. So, know about tаrоt card readings: shed away the abstract fear!
