18 Nobles AU (Part 1)
(Why do I do this to myself)
This was partially born out of my other AUs, partially out of some of my disappointments with Gen 8.
Basically, this is an AU where instead of 10 nobles, divided between two clans and five areas, there are 18 nobles divided across three clans and six areas. This is probably going to need multiple posts, so I'll stick with new Pokémon and new Nobles for now. Even so, it's gonna be long so I'll stick it undrr the Read More.
New Pokémon!
Every Pokémon from Gen V onwards that were not in SwSh are present in the 18 Nobles AU (Don't ask how.)
Every Pokémon in the Platinum Sinnoh Dex that were excluded from Hisui in canon are retained here.
Since the Gen V starters are covered by the "Gen V onwards but not in SwSh" but the Gen II and VII starters aren't, those starters are added in anyway to prevent Gen V getting more attention than the other generations the Hisui starters originate from. However, Gen II, V, VI, and VII starters cannot be found until the post game.
Lastly, a few other Pokémon are included due to connection with the new Nobles.
New Nobles:
Lady Akaryu (Platinum Clan, Obsidian Fieldlands). Originating from my Akaryu AU, this is the only noble to be entirely original to Hisui, neither evolving from nor being a regional variant of an existing Pokémon. She takes a role similar to Lilligant or Avalugg, being the protector of the Platinum Clan settlement. She is Dragon-Fairy type, and carries the Pixie Plate.
Lady Swanna (Platinum Clan, Crimson Mirelands) Look, I know that Swan Boats are not in any way related to Hokkaido, but I was struggling okay? Lady Swanna is the first Platinum Clan noble you face. She is Steel-Water type, and gives you the Iron Plate.
Lady Paracide (Platinum Clan, Jade Flatlands) Originating from my Paras Whisperer AU, Lady Paracide serves as the Ride Pokémon for the new Jade Flatlands (which I will cover in a later post). She can stretch upwards to help you ford treacherous material or spring upwards to give you a burst of elevation. She is Bug-Ghost type and gives you the Spooky Plate.
Lord (Zangoose Evo) (Diamond Clan, Jade Flatlands) Look, I'm not great with Pokémon names, okay? This lord, along with Hisuian Zangoose, is Normal-Ice type and gives you the Blank Plate. Of course, he is closely tied to...
Lady (Seviper Evo) (Pearl Clan, Jade Flatlands) What else? Seviper have been chased off from the Hisuian mainland until recently. Despite making a comeback, they seem to be much less at odds with Hisuian Zangoose. This Lady is found near what will one day become Iron Island. She is Dragon-Water type, while Hisuian Seviper are pure Dragon type, and she gives you the Draco Plate.
Lady (Medicham Evolution) (Platinum Clan, Cobalt Coastlands) This evolution line is entirely based on the Dragon Warrior trope in many martial arts films, taking such a concept much more literally. This Lady resides inland, in a small cove in the northwest corner of the map. (By the way the maps are bigger.) She, along with Hisuian Meditite and Medicham, are Fighting-Dragon type, and she gives you the Fist Plate.
Lady Galvantula (Platinum Clan, Coronet Highlands) Loosely originating from my post about Emmet introducing Joltik to Hisui and them becoming an invasive species, Lady Galvantula is a regional variant of Galvantula that has adapted to an environment with low amounts of natural electricity. She is Bug-Fairy type and gives you the Insect Plate (Kleavor gives you the Stone Plate instead).
Lady (Noctowl Evolution) (Platinum Clan, Alabaster Icelands) This is the only new noble who outright replaces an existing Ride Noble, namely Braviary. She is Dark-Flying type and gives you the Dread Plate.

The Big Catch-Up Wall of Text Extravaganza 1
I really love using this site as a means to just, write about whatever's on my mind or to write about things I've been doing and my thoughts on them- y'know, like a blog. Most of the time, though, my procrastination gets EXTREMELY in the way, so that doesn't happen as much as I'd like it to. So, for days where I have nothing else to do except for playing catch-up with all the things I wanna talk about, there's gonna be these kinds of posts!
This first one's gonna be kinda all over the place and out of order, but hopefully for next time I like, write down what I want to talk about in the order it comes to my mind so that I don't have to go "huh, what did I want to say again?", but with that said, let's get this started!
First thing's first, I wanna talk about my time with the Vital Bracelet BE because, holy shit, the BE is just everything I wanted from the VV but actually realized: Infinite training, tracking of said training and steps baked into the watch, raising stats with training with a rank to go along with your overall training with the 'mon, being able to see evo requirements IN THE WATCH LIKE HOLY SHIT!!! It's still not perfect, however- my only gripes with the watch are that you STILL can't skip battles, BE 'mons late-game require SO many damn squats being done, and the app for the watch right now is absolute sewage water. I have no plans on using that shitty app unless I'm using it to store completed runs. Speaking of completing runs, holy shit it takes FOREVER to complete a run for me. Why? WELL, since the BE has 4 character slots, I've decided to load this bitch up with two BE 'mons and two DIM 'mons. What I've been doing is that every day, I switch which mon I'm raising in a set rotation, going from a BE, to a DIM, to a BE, to a DIM. This way, I can have one day where I go all out in grinding stats for my BE 'mons, then chill the next day with my DIM 'mons since the stat system is exclusive to the BE 'mons so doing all the exercises for the DIM 'mons on a BE device only increases their PP, or what they need to evolve to the next stage. For those who only stick to raising one 'mon at a time to completion on the BE, I HIGHLY recommend this method of going about things, it's super fun and a nice way to spend time with multiple buddies at once in a span of time.
Speaking of monster-collecting franchises and fitness, I've also decided to get back into Pokemon GO since some of my other friends are giving it a shot again, too. I originally played this game when it first came out, and like, man it fucking sucked. I have literally ONE Pokestop in my general area and the only way to get there is to cross a busy street and complete a bigass maze before having to come BACK from that. Horrible. Because of living in the middle of fucking nowhere, I run out of Pokeballs really quickly, which is why I quit GO on my first playthrough and is something I am getting close to doing now. It fucking sucks that this is the way it has to be, but oooh weeell, if I have to buy a few hundred balls just to continue my search for a (Galarian) Slowbro, I'll do it I guess. And speaking of Pokemon, I have made a huge discovery- especially as someone who really likes avians... Piplup and their line is like, EXTREMELY slept on. I realized this when one of them spawned out in my front lawn and caught it on my first try and decided to make them my buddy 'mon instead of the Bulbasaur I caught when I first started my new account. At that moment it just hit me, like, why don't more people ever talk about them? Why don't I ever talk about them??? Like, I didn't remember Empoleon being in Pokken until I looked Empoleon up, that's fucking awesome. I will be the change I want to see in this world and bring up those silly penguins whenever I can. Doesn't mean their a top 3 favorite of mine I think, but I'll make sure they aren't forgotten.
Uhhh what else what else... oh! I got a new controller for my PC after using the same fucking Afterglow controller for like, 6 years. The "deadzone" issues or however you'd call it were getting so bad that I had to just get a new one. It's a PowerA controller, and I have nothing but good things to say about the GC one I got from them for my Switch, so let's hope this controller lasts just as long as my Afterglow did. Oh, I also fucking tore my old controller apart to hardest it's face buttons lmao.
Oh, I also started a (Hardcore) Ironwoman on Old School Runescape. I started one for two reason: the main one being because I've essentially maxxed out everything I can do on my main account without buying a membership cuz IDK if I wanna commit to a subscription like that, and the other reason being that my friend has started playing OSRS again after forever so we're playing together and making progress together. Holy fuck man, the Hardcore experience is STRESSFUL!!! I don't care if I die and lose it cuz if I want to do a Hardcore thing, I'd make a dedicated account for it, but fuck, do I want to hold onto it for as long as I can because the Hardcore armor looks so much better than the default Ironman armor. Like, why doesn't the default one have arms??? What the hell??? Anyways, I don't think I'm gonna be doing a log or whatever about it. I'd love to make videos about my experience with OSRS, but I don't have the SSD space or really a drive for it at the moment lmao.
The final (and I guess the "biggest?") thing I wanted to talk about was the fact that I saw Puss n' Boots 2 for the second time not too long ago, and like, FUUUCK, it's such a good film. I could go on and on and on and on about what I liked about it, but that's not really the point. When I saw the film the first time, I got sad. When I rewatched it, I got even more sad. Why? Just, the EVERYTHING about that movie, the music, the character designs, the story... it makes me want to CREATE things so FUCKING bad, but like, I have literally zero drive to do so and it almost pisses me off to the point of doing something to spite myself, but I just can't. I have so many songs stuck in my head, so many story/game concepts I want to realize, but I just don't have the motivation to DO it and I will bring that frustration with me to my grave in hopes that a beautiful tree can sprout and do the things I never got to... why am I talking like that I still got a lot of time to do shit lmao. I'll get to it eventually... but I wish eventually was now.
WHEW, I'm fucking finally all caught up with everything I wanted to say. Now, I... don't know what else to do. I guess I can get that 10 year Smite thing done so I don't have to worry about it again, but that's all I got going on lmao. Until the next time y'all hear from me, take care, everyone!

Hello I have headcanons about Ingo's Hisui team and I'm going to make that everyone else's problem.
Have I thought about this a bit too much? Maybe.
To start- I headcanon that aside from battles, most of his team are generally left out of pokeballs or allowed to roam like Sneasler, and are only confined to pokeballs during travel or battles.
Two of his Pokemon specifically are pretty much sapient, so I don't believe Ingo would contain them like that. (I tend to lean towards the Alakazam line and the Machoke line being intelligent and culturally unique Pokemon.) ANYWAY. Let's get down to it:
Alakazam ♂️
One of the only two team members not naturally found in the highlands. A trade evolution. (Ingo's entire team has special circumstances to their evolutions, needing trainer participation to reach their full potential. This is clearly a nod to Ingo being an incredibly skilled and educated trainer. His knowledge of Pokemon has not been lost with his memory)
Headcanons:
1) A service Pokemon in two ways. Using calm mind on Ingo when his brain fog or nightmares are really bad. Generally just a friendly companion to keep Ingo company. Really helps with his mental health. A friend. 🤗
2) like the rest of his evolution line, he can teleport and bring others along with him. Have you ever wondered how everyone gets around Hisui so quickly? (Seriously 😒) Ingo is still the boss of travel. His Alakazam is a willing travel aid to anyone looking to get around Hisui in less than a three day's walk. This is pretty close to what's already been seen with a certain abra in canon. It feels fitting that Ingo would eagerly offer this service, and that his Alakazam would oblige. Does Ingo say things like 'all aboard'' and 'please remain still until you have reached your destination'. Oh you bet. That Alakazam needs his own little hat.
Tangrowth ♀️
The only other Pokemon not found in the Highlands. Also evolves after learning ancient power, which it must gain via level up via battling. Also one of the Pokemon he's had around for the longest, although not one of the strongest members of his team.
Headcanons:
1) As a lvl. 41 tangela when you first fight her, she would already be capable of ancient power... Meaning Ingo waited to evolve her until after your first battle. (Rising to a challenge eh?)
2) The Hisuian tangela Pokedex entry mentions it's vines are used as a herb, and Ingo making use of this would not surprise me. Especially If it's medicinal in some way. Additionally- This entry matches an earlier Pokedex entry in Galar, which is a super fun thing the Pokemon team snuck in there. Our silly professor in Hisui is clearly Galarian. Of course the entries would be similar. Laventon might even be the one to gift the tangela to Ingo. (They're both from English speaking regions in a non-English speaking ancient Sinnoh. They both see Pokemon as partners and not monsters. The chance to find comraderie in that is high)
Probopass ♀️
The start of the Highlands gang. Probopass is honestly a given. You've got a forgetful dude with amnesia who frets about becoming decoupled or losing his way. Having a living compass would be a godsend. Fits well with Ingo's theme. A silly Pokemon for a sad silly man. Don't even really have to headcanon anything here hahaha.
Machamp ♂️
Also a Machoke when first battled- a common sight in the Highlands. Also a higher level than his previous Pokemon, insinuating far more battle use. Another trade evo. (Ingo who are you sharing your Pokemon with? your brother's not here.)
Headcanons:
1) Befriended early on as another assistive Pokemon. He's probably helped Ingo out with physical stuff on multiple occasions. (Not like that wtf) If Ingo does have a hut in the Highlands, that Machoke probably helped build it.
2) Now a Machamp, most likely also evolves after he lost to you. Ingo hasn't had a good battle in years. Suddenly having a fully evolved team is worth it! I like to think Machamp likes having more arms for bone-crushing hugs. Someone's gotta care for this sad blorbo. 😟 he never cares for himself.
Magnezone
Like Probopass, another given. Also like Machamp, this dude is one level higher than the rest. It's an electric robot from the future. Sad future man comes across sad future robot. Bonding over tragic circumstances ensue.
Headcanons:
1) They are both nostalgic for each other and what they represent. They're also both awkwardly emotionless at first glance but generally friendly. A match made in caveman heaven. (This is apparently a joke reference that only people who live in Oklahoma get sorry) This is one of Ingo's favs bcus it's also steel/electric. There is a deep familiarity in working with electric type Pokemon. If only he could remember why....
2) That random Magnezone u see flying around the Highlands is his actually. No I won't take constructive criticism. He lets it do what it wants. Oh you caught it? Different Magnezone.
Gliscor ♂️
Definitely his Hisui "starter" as a Gligar. This dude is two levels higher than the rest of his team. Evolves while holding razor fang at night. Already fully evolved when you fight it. His Ace. 💖
Headcanons:
1) Probably the reason his coat looks like shit. Taming this bad boy as a gligar is when Iridia went "holy shit ok. Do you uh. Want a job? We've got this other huge-clawed venomous purple Pokemon out back-"
2) Like Ingo, He loves to battle. Almost a little vicious. Also a ground type, something Ingo primarily worked with in his past. So like the Magnezone, battling alongside his Gliscor comes naturally. Eerily familiar even. (side note- What is it about Ingo's Ace Pokemon being like- things that are usually really deadly to other people and Pokemon. First a soul-eating lantern and now a literal vampire. Wtf.)
3) This poke is also 6'7" and definitely works as a gliding Pokemon for Ingo. Can't do powered flight, but can make going down the Highlands a breeze when his Alakazam isn't around.
Okay that's it that's the post thank you all for coming everyone go home.

A Reminder, Chapter 7:
The Dead Waltz
Characters: Mortimer Toynbee (Todd Tolansky/Toad), Talia Wagner (Nocturne), Kurt Wagner (Nightcrawler, mentioned), Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch, mentioned)
Relationships: Nightcrawler/Scarlet Witch
Rating: Teen
Warnings: A drunken rescue mission
Fic Summary: Set 20 years after X-Men Evo, into the original X-Men and X2 movies and far beyond, Wanda and her family get an unexpected visit from someone they haven’t seen in over 15 years.
Chapter extract:
It was almost alarming how quickly things had changed in the two months since he’d last spent any significant amount of time sitting alone in front of the house at the dead of night. Sure, he still had a long way to go before Wanda trusted him and he was still mildly uncomfortable with staying with the three of them, but he figured that he deserved some kinda break after all the hell he’d been put through over the last few years.
Turns out, being between allegiances with multiple enemies on all sides and hopping from one place to another every few weeks didn’t feel exhausting - especially with having grown up on the streets, living rough was pretty much second nature to him even now - until he settled down for a few months somewhere with a warm bed, hot meals and mostly friendly company.
With the inevitability of having to leave this place eventually, the sense of impending dread that came with that line of rational thinking left a sour taste in Mortimer’s mouth. He’d been too spoiled for his own good.
With another sip of his hot-toddy-chocolate and a long sigh that sent a cloud of steam dancing in the cold air, Mortimer let that thought lay down to rest for another day and let his mind drift hazily to the memory of Kurt pulling Wanda up to dance in the kitchen to some old jazz song playing on the tiny ratio as they made dinner.
Mortimer had been helping little Talia with her maths work when the little sprog—
“—Talia?!”
Unsure if he was just a little too intoxicated that he was seeing things, Mortimer stilled his slow swinging with the tips of his thermal sock-clad toes against the decking and watched, perplexed at the sight of the child rounding the side of the house and walking unsteadily along the path.
Must have used the back door, Mortimer thought to himself idly.
He carefully slid off of the cushioned bench and set his mug down (only managing to slosh a little of its contents over the side) and stumbled down the short set of steps leading onto the walkway of dirt and well trodden grass.
Clearly he'd been hitting the bourbon a little too hard, because this couldn't possibly be real - Talia had gone to bed hours ago when her parents had turned in early and Mort vaguely recalled them locking the back door... Then again, tipsy or not, he wasn't the kind of guy to just let the sprog get herself into trouble and he didn't want to even think about the looks on her parents' faces on the off-chance he was not in-fact delirious and had just let their beloved girl wander off in the middle of the night.

Dream Sequence: McLaren 720S Spider and McLaren GT Tested Back-to-Back
Spoiler alert: There is no winner here. How could we pick a winner? Declaring a superior between the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider and the 2020 McLaren GT is a bit like pitting a triple-shot of espresso against a mug of the richest, frothiest cappuccino, both poured by the winner of a Barista Championship—which, by the way, is a real thing. It’s Pappy Van Winkle, poured neat or on the rocks; it’s the Rolex Datejust to the Submariner, or the In-N-Out Double-Double, prepared with or without Animal Style. It’s preference, and you’re going to have a hell of a good time either way when you test drive these two McLarens.
Automobile’s staff photographers and I certainly felt like we won something when we spent time with the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider and GT, even before the serious test-driving began. Maybe we had inadvertently clicked on one of those obnoxious “YOU WON!” internet pop-ups, or perhaps the Nigerian prince I’ve funneled my paycheck to over the years finally wired the funds. Either way, this test—scratch that, let’s call it a dream sequence—produced no clear winner. You might as well turn that laurel wreath into a salad.
McLaren 720S Spider: All-Stars Throwback
Rewind to Automobile All-Stars 2018, and you’d find myself and the greater Automobile staff in a very different headspace. That edition of All-Stars saw us slobbering and slack-jawed at the brain-bending, genre-breaking, heart-stopping McLaren 720S, leading McLaren’s newest child to a unanimous spot in the All-Stars pantheon. At the time, we reckoned the 720S was already one of the all-time greats, possessing all of the otherworldly performance and outright thrill of supercars and hypercars triple its $300,000 price, while remaining as friendly and approachable as a Porsche Cayman.
It didn’t stop there. Between that test and this comparo, we’ve sampled the 720S in both coupe and crop-top configurations multiple times, with each resulting word jumble reading like a copy-pasted thesaurus entry for the word “fantastic.” For me, it took some extended time in the new Ferrari F8 Tributo at the most recent running of All-Stars to match the sublimity of the 720S.
McLaren GT: Teething Problems?
The same cannot be said for the McLaren GT. The then-latest-and-greatest Macca shared track time and All-Stars parking-lot space with the aforementioned Ferrari F8 Tributo, along with other heavy hitters like the Lamborghini Huracan Evo, the new mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette Stringray, Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, and the all-new Porsche 992 Carrera S. In this field of weaponized gasoline and carbon fiber, the GT felt like a misfit. Quick in a straight line, but it was left with crossed feet and a sprained ankle when facing off against the paddock of honed, balanced javelins. For a McLaren, this was very uncharacteristic.
It didn’t sit right with me, nor did it with our editor-in-chief Mac Morrison. He previously attended the original launch of the GT, and he believed, as did I, there was something not quite right with the dark red example we flogged at the Streets of Willow Springs and on the winding roads near Lake Elizabeth, California. Chalk it up to exceptionally stiff competition or unseen mechanical gremlins; though it ran strong the whole week, it also exhibited a big vibration through the steering wheel on bumpy roads that threw everyone for a loop. So, we thought the 2020 McLaren GT deserved another chance to showcase its purported grand-touring chops when compared to the ostensibly harsher and more aggressive 2020 McLaren 720S Spider.
For this 720S Spider and GT test drive, we stuck to the GT’s home turf—the road. Grand Touring is right there in its name, after all. Fundamentally, the GT should be sublime, considering when you strip away all of its bodywork and trim, you’ll find roughly the same bones as you’d find on the 720S and on the smaller, sharp-as-a-tack 570S. Think of the GT to the 720S as the now-discontinued 570GT was to the 570S; softer, roomier, and better suited to a mixed use of riviera cruising and canyon carving than setting lap records. It’s the McLaren you’d want to be stuck in traffic with, and you wouldn’t be left with jelly legs when the road turns squiggly.
McLaren GT: Not Your Typical GT
Visually, the 2020 McLaren GT is an unapologetically mid-engine car, pulling firepower from a retuned version of the 720S’ 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8. A mighty 612 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque returns a very supercar-like 3.1-second zero-to-60-mph rush, along with the all-important double-buck-besting vmax of 203 mph. The Graziano-sourced seven-speed dual-clutch transmission from the 720S is retained, reworked for slicker, smoother shifts in fitting with the long-legged attitude, particularly when left in “auto” mode. Even structurally, the GT can’t escape its more athletic siblings; the trademark McLaren carbon MonoCell II structure is present in the GT, as are portions of the 720S’ incredible suspension and braking system. However, McLaren left on the shelf the ultra-trick hydropneumatics portions of Proactive Chassis Control II, in the name of cutting costs.
Elsewhere, the GT pulls like pizza dough at the edges of the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider to make a weekend in Napa Valley easier. There’s a larger 19-gallon fuel tank that returns around 400 miles of range if you keep your leather-soled Italian loafers and/or Louboutins out of the throttle. In addition to a frunk that swallows 5.3-cubic feet of luggage and other junk, the rear hatch lifts to give access to a narrow 14.8-cubic-foot storage compartment. Everything is a smidge softer in the GT over the 2020 McLaren 720S; the steering is a skosh slower, the brake engagement easier, there’s additional sound deadening, and with revised suspension, wheels, and facias, and there’s an additional 4.3-inches of ground clearance to make worrying over steep driveways and valet lots a thing of the past.
2020 McLaren 720S Spider Test Drive: If a Taser Shock Was a Car
Meanwhile, the Memphis Red 2020 McLaren 720S Spider looks like the way goosebumps feel: It’s an insectoid, extraterrestrial design that almost passes for Lycra stretched taut over a latticework of carbon and titanium. Parked next to something mundane like a Honda CR-V, it’s a bright smear of frosted metals and metallic paint on the pavement.
As soon as I caught the keys, I couldn’t help myself; test-drive seat-time in the 2020 McLaren 720S came first. After a 100-mile stint through California’s vascular freeway network, I started to think the 2020 McLaren GT stepped up just to get knocked down again. Even over expansion joints and broken pavement found in downtown Bakersfield, the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider failed to tenderize beyond what you might experience in a 911 Carrera GTS or Mercedes-AMG GT C. Aside from storage space, I wondered, what makes the GT compelling?
Still flying low in the 720S, straight highways morphed into savagely zig-zaggy roads that snake north to Lake Isabella. Quickly, this 2020 McLaren 720S test proved the car deserved every ounce of the effusive media coverage, and then some. Up almost a clean 100 hp and 100 lb-ft compared to the McLaren GT, the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8’s 710 hp and 568 lb-ft feels closer to a billion. This is acceleration on a galactic scale; a full-bore rip down a tight country road warps and blurs your forward vision so violently, I’m surprised it’s not operated with some manner of sci-fi hand throttle. On the charge, arguably no supercar gathers speed like a 720S. Exiting corners, it’s explosive enough to make a Group B car split its center differential, and so slippery on the straights that a Group C car would probably want to buy it a drink.
As easygoing as the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider is on surface streets, this paint-stripping speed is hardly a laid-back experience. Even if you leave the chassis in the Sport configuration—compared to Comfort or Track—bombing around a semi-undulating country road must be akin to snapping eight vials of smelling salts under your nose. Ultra-quick steering and a stiff chassis setup makes it feel very much like It’s all over the place—while staying exactly where you want it to be. With both the scream and tremendous vibration of the V-8 behind your head, tickling your fingers and buzzing your spine, you run the risk of sensory overload as you sear your way through sharp corners and long, gradual sweepers at preternatural pace.
2020 McLaren GT Test Drive: Road Warrior
Not so much in the 2020 McLaren GT. Despite noticeable turbo lag from the same 4.0-liter, acceleration is less stepping-on-the-tiger’s-tail than the 720S—and 570S, for that matter—and arrives with noticeably less live-wire noise/vibration/harshness. Don’t be fooled for a second, however; closing speeds spin to and beyond the three-digit mark quick enough to trigger palpitations. It’s the same story in the corners—it’s the driving experience of a 720S, only coated in a light dusting of crushed benzodiazepines. Steering is lighter, suspension is more pliant, the brakes easier to modulate, and the GT is prone to a bit more understeer, but it drives as though it was built for tree-lined California mountain roads.
By design, there’s less to worry about. Testing the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider on public roads is almost—almost—too fast to be fun, especially when you don’t have regular access to a race circuit. Unless you’re an extremely confident (or overconfident) driver and the road is glassy smooth, forget using the Track chassis setting in the 720S Spider; on the same roads, Track mode in the 2020 McLaren GT is a necessity, as the GT’s drive modes are ratcheted one-step beneath those of the 720S–what’s Sport in the 720S is Track in the GT, and vice versa.
Where the GT flows, the 720S slices. On this road, in this spec, even when pitted against the endlessly brilliant 720S, the GT makes sense. Apologies for the strange and cryptic statement; I had more fun during the test of the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider, but I enjoyed my time more in the 2020 McLaren GT. The 720S had me doing my best impression of Rat Fink in a hot rod, eyes wide with a rictus grin and a howl building in my throat, while the GT found me savoring the drive, and not just the car. In other words, the 720S Spider always has to be the center of attention, and the GT is perfectly complementary to the experience.
2020 McLaren GT: The Long Way Home
Photos taken, and thrills had, I slid into the 2020 McLaren GT for the late-night highway cruise home, allowing the GT time to flex its grand-touring muscles.
Predictably, the memory foam seats are less aggressive than the ones found in the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider, the leather appears to be more supple and extends further throughout the cabin, and there’s less carbon-fiber trim to be found. That said, I’m sure McLaren is more than happy to add great swathes of the stuff if you have the inclination and coin. There seems to be more room to move about and relax in the GT—unsurprisingly—and much of that comes down to a redesigned center stack. As the GT mostly takes the interior structure and design from the 570S and bygone 570GT, gone is the 720S’ center spine of transmission controls. The new design is instead fitted flush to the flat center-console panel in the GT, leaving an open space for easy access to phones, keys, papers, cigars, and wads of cash.
Elsewhere, when set in the cossetting Comfort mode, the 2020 McLaren GT is about the most comfortable supercar I’ve driven. Aside from its adaptive suspension soaking up crags, and the relatively low-aggression Pirelli P Zeros shrugging off any tramlining, keeping the active driving mode out of Sport or Track plugs up the exhaust, too. Sure, sure—silence is hardly a virtue when it comes to supercars, but if you’re going to walk the walk of a grand tourer, you’re sometimes going to have to not talk the talk of a supercar.
Though price is rarely of concern to people who can afford either a 2020 McLaren GT or a 2020 McLaren 720S Spider, the GT will bruise your wallet significantly less, with a base price of $212,500 compared to the 720S Spider’s $300,000-plus gut-punch. Like all good supercars worth their crazy doors and piercing exhausts, the options list is long enough to choke an industrial paper shredder. As equipped, this cush and comfortable GT comes in at $254,125, a sticker that includes goodies like the electrochromic sunroof, sports exhaust, and the Luxe package that extends the leather surfaces and adds beautiful metal trim.
2020 McLaren 720S Spider and McLaren GT: Let’s Talk Numbers
If you’re still after the 2020 720S Spider after this test drive, hold on tight. With options like the aforementioned electrochromic roof, upgraded sound system, exhaust, extended carbon-fiber package, and MSO Black Pack, this 720S Spider didn’t stop eating until it hung a $379,960 tag from the carbon-capped mirrors.
Worth the extra $90,000? Yes, probably—as something someone uses to deliver a weekend thrill. There’s just no getting around the high-strung, ballistic, F5-tornado blast of the 2020 McLaren 720S Spider, especially since the GT is, by design, a less exhilarating supercar. However, for someone looking to stand out from the waves of Bentleys, 911s, AMG GTs, and BMW 8 Series, the 2020 McLaren GT is a fabulous statement piece and an excellent daily driver and road-trip warrior. Also, consider this: You know, McLarens have proven to respond exceptionally well to aftermarket prodding, and the GT is no different. For well less than $15,000, a respected tuning firm would be more than happy to turn the GT’s wick beyond that of even a stock 720S, complete with transmission remapping for durability. Hey, we’re not saying that’s what you should do, but it’s certainly something to consider.
See? Everyone wins here. On the subject of the 2020 McLaren 720S and this test drive, I remain breathless. For those who actually enjoy driving their supercars, you now only have to pick between the 720S and the Ferrari F8 Tributo, and it’s going to be a whole lot easier to get your hands on a new McLaren than it is a Ferrari. In the case of the 2020 McLaren GT, this was one of the best redemption arcs I’ve experienced in quite some time, and the most enigmatic car in McLaren’s lineup more than proved its worth. Now, if only we could manage a McLaren Speedtail versus Senna, we’ll have all the bases covered.
2020 McLaren 720S Spider and McLaren GT Highlights:

Hands-On With The Breitling Endurance Pro Watch For Athletes
Whether you’re a fighter pilot, a civilian aviator, or just a dyed-in-the-wool tool watch enthusiast, there’s a pretty good chance that your first brush with Breitling was one of its Professional watches – a broad line of stylish quartz-powered references that has remained one of the brand’s core collections since its informal debut as the Aerospace in 1985. Over the last three and a half decades, the Professional umbrella has evolved dramatically, from the entry-level Aerospace to more feature-rich offerings like the rugged Chronospace, the state-of-the-art Exospace, and the mighty Emergency – a legendary adventure watch capable of summoning a helicopter (ie: the world’s most expensive Uber ride) for when things go really sideways. Given its cool, modern aesthetic and long legacy of highly accurate, multi-function utility watches, the Professional line is a natural home for Breitling’s new Endurance Pro – another category-specific tool watch, this time designed with athletes in mind.
With regards to its Professional collection stablemates, the new Endurance Pro probably has the most in common in both proportion and functionality with the Chronospace Evo – a fully analog spin-off of the ana-digi hybrid Aerospace Evo. Though marketed at pilots, the modern Aerospace was already an excellent multi-sport & adventure watch (and a perfect cycling watch, I’ll add), thanks to its light weight, easy wearability, and multiple functions. The new Endurance carries that torch, reportedly with design input from Breitling ambassador and three-time Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno, yielding a reference that mixes in a few new elements, including a Breitlight carbon fiber composite case that’s 30% lighter than titanium, a bi-directional rotating compass bezel (likely cribbed from the Chronospace Military), and a subtly updated aesthetic, which appears to be reflecting the new art direction for the Professional collection as a whole.
Now it doesn’t matter if you’re a professional athlete like Frodeno or a fitness enthusiast logging miles between a regular nine-to-five, if you run, swim, or ride bikes and appreciate watches, you already know that finding just the ‘right’ watch to keep you on-time and your wrist tanline dutifully maintained during training season can be a tricky affair. An oversized dive or pilot watch might have the shock countermeasures requisite to keep an automatic movement running accurately, but these larger designs often trade legibility for weight – and a distracting, top-heavy watch is hardly the right choice, especially during longer or harder efforts. Conversely, though a cheap, battery-powered watch might be the safest concession (especially in the instance of a crash or a fall) in this instance, it undoubtedly lacks that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ that many athletes seek out when it comes time to personalize their gear or riding kit.
Obviously, most professional athletes tend to train or race with GPS-enabled digital devices that measure efforts and comprehensively track workout data, but just as a professional divemaster might wear a digital dive computer on every outing, the Endurance isn’t meant to replace such a device, it’s meant to supplement it. By the same token, I ride with a Wahoo Roam, which displays power, heart rate, VAM (when climbing), along with distance and elevation metrics, but I leave the day’s timekeeping to the wrist, as I simply prefer to wear a watch. Plus, I’ve had head units die on me while out on a ride, and at least being able to get home in time for brunch is never a bad thing. Two is one, and one is none, right?
Ultimately, I’m particularly impressed that Breitling has actually touched on the elements of not just what makes a sports watch cool, but one that’s actually useful in practice – y’know, as a sports watch. In keeping with the traditions I’d come to expect from Breitling, it’s detail-rich, quite masculine by design, and extremely well made. And in the same traditions, it’s also large and legible at a glance, but hardly unwearable – thanks to the impressive lightness of its 44mm x 12.5mm Breitlight case, which weighs a scant 35 grams without its rubber strap (funnily enough, the strap weighs about the same, adding 30 grams to the total package). And it’s powered by a quartz movement – which, though perhaps not the first choice for many watch enthusiasts, is actually in practice, a much safer and more accurate option from workout to workout.
Piggy-backing off the Chronospace Evo, the movement in question deployed for the Endurance is an in-house manufactured 1/10th of a second quartz chronograph calibre, though unlike the aforementioned, the Endurance uses Breitling’s Caliber 82, which trades the Evo’s 24-hour register at 9:00 for a 30 minute counter. This is a thermo-compensated, COSC-certified Chronometer movement, and it’s awfully nice to see some brands still catering to HAQ (high-accuracy quartz) watch fans – in addition to the athlete community.
Specifications
Brand: Breitling Model: Endurance Pro Dimensions: 44mm x 12.5mm Water Resistance: 100 meters Case Material: Breitlight Crystal/Lens: Sapphire (double-sided AR coating) Movement: Breitling Cal. 82 (thermo-compensated, COSC-certified SuperQuartz) with hour, minute, second, date, 1/10th second and 30-minute counters Power Reserve: 3 – 4 year battery life Strap/Bracelet: Rubber or recycled nylon (Econyl) NATO strap Price & Availability: $3,000 USD
Like the rest of the Aerospace Evo collection, the new Endurance is water resistance to 100 meters, making it plenty sweat and swim-resistant for any workout. And with a 22mm lug width and a 52mm lug-to-lug measurement, it also has a near-identical footprint to the existing Aerospace, though the sculpted lines on the case are a lot more refined, with deep, twisted lyre style lugs that create a cool beveling on the 9:00 side of the caseband. And thanks to the subtle patterning of the Breitlight material, the whole case has a very warm and organic look and feel on the wrist – an effect that’s contrasted beautifully by bright pops of blue, yellow, orange, red, or white. Other embellishments like the crown’s grippy rubberized surface, the steeply sloped pulsometer chapter ring (a fun touch, though I can’t imagine any serious athlete discarding their Whoop for this), and the gold-hued 3-6-9 & Breitling wing elements all lend a very cohesive, premium feel that I can only best describe as ‘distinctly Breitling.’ Speaking of which, the lone design criticism I could probably levy at the new Endurance, is with the applied 3-6-9 markers. These have long been one of my favorite stylistic flourishes of the Professional collection, and cutting each of them off to make room for other dial elements feels a bit like design heresy.
Available in a multitude of colorful strap and dial options, and built around an ultralight composite case, the design brief for the Endurance feels a bit like it’s paying homage to the original fiberglass-cased TAG Heuer F1 watches from the late eighties which were also marketed for sporting use. In many ways, this particular reference was the first Swiss watch for an entire generation of cyclists, who might remember them being worn by the stars of the American 7-Eleven cycling team, like Bob Roll, Davis Phinney, and Andy Hampsten. Unlike the rather crude F1 watches (nostalgic as they may be) though, the Endurance is a sleek, premium, and far more modern affair that strikes just the right balance between style and utility. And with a price of $3,000, it’s certainly not an inexpensive choice, but it’s a markedly more practical, period-correct option for watch fans looking for the perfect ride companion for that new Tarmac SL7. breitling.com
For the next two weeks, the global athlete community can participate in Breitling’s Endurance Pro Challenge on the fitness app Strava, with the aim of completing 500 minutes of any sporting activity (running, cycling, swimming, or any combination are all fair game) in the two weeks following the time of this writing, to be put into the *ahem* running to win a Colnago bike, a Breitling Endurance Pro watch, and a Breitling cycling kit. Why 500 minutes? Well, it’s a little essentially an eight-hour window, and around the same amount of time it would take an elite triathlete to complete an Ironman – luckily, you’ll be able to break it into as many sessions as you need, such as long as you’re done in the 14 days following the 26th of August. Breitling’s own professional athlete squad, including three-time Ironman World Champion Jan Frodeno, and multiple cycling Grand Tour winner Vincenzo Nibali will both be participating in the challenge.

Dirt 5 feels more like a new MotorStorm than a new Dirt
Over the years Dirt has been many things – all-encompassing off-road driving experience, a hardcore rally simulator, a knockabout arcade racer – but Dirt 5 could well be the biggest departure yet. Made beyond the walls of Codemasters’ Southam campus for the first time, it’s being developed by the company’s Cheshire studio, previously known as Codemasters Evo and of course before all that going under the Evolution banner. It should be no small surprise, then, that Dirt 5 often feels more like a new MotorStorm game than a new entry in Codemasters’ long-running series. And really, that’s no bad thing at all.
Given how widely mourned the good old-fashioned arcade racer is, you certainly can’t complain when one as unashamedly arcadey as this rolls up. Dirt 5 is bright and brash and eye-searingly colourful, and isn’t so much about threading through a sodden Welsh forest in the dead of night – you’ve got Dirt Rally for that – as it is muscling through overstated caricatures of international locales, tearing through a Norwegian fishing village as it’s pounded by ocean waves, or screaming through a Brazilian favela before racing directly under Rio’s Christ the Redeemer. Extreme weather is a key feature here, with electrical storms, snowstorms and heavy rain delivering the sort of drama I haven’t seen in a racing game since MotorStorm Apocalypse. It’s loud and over-the-top and an awful lot of fun.
Some big names are onboard this time out – Donut Media provide in-game podcasts that help contextualise your progress, while the talented Sean Bull has lent a hand when it comes to custom liveries.
It certainly feels different, being made in Codemasters Cheshire’s own engine and with a lightness of touch to the handling that’s several worlds removed from the weighty consequence of Dirt Rally, yet it also feels reassuringly familiar. As much as the boisterous action and vibrant locales bring to mind MotorStorm, so too do they hark back to Dirt 2 and Dirt 3 – a touchstone for Dirt 5’s development team as it looks to Codemasters’ series in its commercial prime. Yes, that does mean in-your-face voiceovers – this time from Nolan North and Troy Baker who play rival racers – but also it means an in-depth, engaging career mode that takes you across various disciplines.

There’s certainly scope and scale to it all. Ten locations will feature, all with multiple tracks and seasonal variants. There’s New York’s Roosevelt Island, the impossible geology of Guilin in China, colourful climbs through Meteora, Cape Town, Morocco’s Dades Gorge and Italy’s Carrara Marble Mine. There’s a ludicrous amount of machinery to chew up that scenery with too, from rally staples such as the Impreza and Lancer Evo to classics like the RS200 and Lancia to modern day machines like an R5 Polo or WRX Peugeot 208. Cross Raid brings with it more muscular machines like the Laffite X-Road, the Unlimited Class boasts monsters like the Jimco Hammerhead and, in a series first, the outrageous and oh-so-American Sprint Cars make an appearance, offering ludicrously overpowered and under-engineered buggies to battle with.
A key new feature is being teased for reveal in August. The procedural generation of Dirt 4 has gone – will this be along similar lines, though?
How well will it all hold together? It’s hard to say, but a preview build that offers up a small selection of the vast amount of content shows promising signs. They’re closed course races – there’s no point-to-point action available just yet – that are frenetic and more about door-to-door action than anything else, the handling sitting firmly in the all-comers welcome mould of the arcade racer. It’s sweet and light, serving up the various disciplines with a certain sugar and froth. Will it hold together with a wheel? I wasn’t able to sample that myself, but Dirt 5 just doesn’t seem like that kind of game. It’s something to throw on for some light-hearted fun, a feeling backed up by the very welcome presence of four-player splitscreen and an arcade mode where you can dream up your own events and then get messy playing through them with a bunch of friends.
Is that lightness of touch going to offend long-standing Dirt fans? I’m not sure it should – Dirt Rally shows no signs of stopping, with a new instalment in the works before Codemasters begins its stint on the official WRC licence from 2023, and an accessible, all-encompassing arcade entry in the series is more than welcome. After the somewhat disappointing Dirt 4, a game with plenty of promise that suffered from its own identity crisis, it seems smart that Codemasters has split the series cleanly in two, allowing Dirt Rally to go more hardcore while Dirt 5 indulges the series’ arcade tendencies. And an all-new, singing and dancing arcade racer with a lineage that takes in the likes of MotorStorm and DriveClub? I’d happily take that.

Since the last Train Sim World 2 add-on is out in 2021. I had decided to compile the horns again. Technically, the year has ended with the marvelous TSG's DB G6 and the Arosa Line update that may had updated the horn on the Ge 4/4 ii, of course don't forget about the 3 Rush Hour routes. The next route that would be releasing after this video is Tharandter Rampe: Dresden - Chemnitz which is set to be out in the new year as well the preservation updates. This video includes all the sound samples possible along each locomotive/train in the game as with multiple versions of the particular rolling stock. Also, I had recorded on how the horn is sounded inside the cab, all though with the windows closed of course as it is not possible to do on every train. This video last for 46 minutes which is around 3 times than the previous horn compilation video from last year. It is sorted by country and older to new routes in that country. This order would go as FR, CH, US/CA, GB, & DE.
