THE STORY OF MILEX
April 22, 2007
Leadmill, Sheffield (day two).
In an article from the online music magazine PennyBlackMusic, we found confirmation that Little Flames performed at this concert with Monkeys:

Alex realized something overnight and apologized for yesterday's silence:

Andy is watching the concert backstage. Something in the interview about two years of lack of communication does not correspond to reality…
The encore is "505" again: "As a traditional set-closer 'A Certain Romance' builds up to a crescendo I glance over to the sound desk and who should be standing there but former Monkey's bassist Andy Nicholson. He surveys the scene of euphoria in front of him and for a moment his eyes glaze over, only for a wry smile to form across his lips as a sense of pride of his former involvement wells up. There's even time for an encore as the band return to play album closer '505' with Alex sat astride an electric piano: the perfect way to finish a special night that few will forget in a hurry".

THE STORY OF MILEX
April 20, 2007
Carling Academy, Birmingham. There is also little information, but the gems still managed to be found! A short video in potato quality and two small precious photos.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And there is more information for example review from Birmingham Live. The only interesting thing about it is this (for me): «Unlike other recent gigs, the band even managed smiles, occasional words and even half-hearted dancing instead of their usual aloof demeanour. Another addition to the set from other recent gigs was an encore - a showbusiness tradition they have recently chosen to ignore but not in Birmingham». Our Milex were cheerful, playful, in the mood!
And the encore guys came out with a gem! What kind of song was that? Yeah, that's 505! Yeah, with Miles!!!

A small piece of video where you can see that Milex manage to talk to each other (video by tomchad22) But of course only for business ;)

THE STORY OF MILEX
16th of April, 2007
Carling Academy in Newcastle. Unfortunately, this is a very meager gig for information. There is only NME article in which The Little Flames are announced with Arctic Monkeys on whole tour.
There are no photos or reviews yet either. As a consolation, let's at least watch video of the song Do Me A Favor from this gig.
17th of April, 2007
Milex and their bands are moving to Scotland and giving a gig at Caird Hall, Dundee. The same silence according to reviews and photos. But there are a lot of videos from the concert. As a consolation, this time we will look at the good old Mardy Bum.
This day is also marked by the release of the single Brianstorm!
April 18, 2007 is next.
Barrowlands, Glasgow. Scotland.

Yeah I know, it's pink, mutters Alex Turner by way of a greeting, as he pre-empts any potential teasing regarding the rather luminous t-shirt he's decided to premiere in Glasgow tonight (i love him!)
Tumblr media
But more importantly, the audience accepts new songs of Monkeys! And in general, the Scots are well done!

THE STORY OF MILEX
14th of April, 2007, pt3.
This is the apogee of the gig – the eternal 505 together with Miles! Here we can observe a phenomenon that years later Alexander would call "What you whispered in my ear".
Despite the potato quality of the video, Alex can be seen constantly turning his head towards Miles. And Mi at some point breaks down and approaches Alex, bends down and intimately whispers something to him (I need to know!)
Cr.: pt0u407a
PS.
At this gig, either something too obvious happened with Milex, or people began to see clearly, to ask questions to themselves and others, which soon became the beginning of the first PR relationship, the first ‘lavender’ in Milex's life.
About this in ONE OF the next post...

THE STORY OF MILEX
April 14, 2007. This is Liverpool, ladies and gentlemen! Carling Academy. Milex came to Miles' homeland. It is possible that someone spent the night and even stayed at home with a dear friend, because after the concert everyone had a day off (the next concert is only on the 16th).
Well, new songs won't write themselves and like they said: "wrote them in our bedrooms" (Magicrpm, 2008).
There’s a brief comment from a photographer (Dave Hawkins) about The Little Flames: "There were two support groups, but they were the only decent ones".
Tumblr media
And the Irish Times article. Just took before the gig. Here we have exactly the same Alex as he appears when talking to journalists:

He shared his thoughts about the upcoming album, but did not explain anything:

Added photo (most likely from the same day).
Let this picture live in this post for now!

THE STORY OF MILEX
14th of April, 2007, pt2.
On this day, Alex went on stage to Miles and The Little Flames to play guitar for the song Put Your Dukes Up John.
We don't see it on the video, but we can hear it. We also have a mention of this moment on the Setlist website:

THE STORY OF MILEX
13th of April, 2007
The second gig at Astoria!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the first live performance of the song 505. The first live with Miles☺️ And it's recorded and saved!!! Look! Milex is of course like angel twins. What would later become Ewil Twin according to Alex😋 And everything is as always - Miles Energizer Kane managed to talk to everyone, spin around, wave his hands. Turner turns towards Mi all the time, checks if everything is good according to the technique, asks the technician to fix something with the sound. And you know what I'll tell you lovely people? Nothing has changed since then. Alex is still constantly turning to Miles. Miles still moves closer to him when he looks at him and stands next to him and catches glances. And leaving the stage is always waiting for him. And these little things are so HUGE! You know what I mean, right?♥️

THE STORY OF MILEX
Stop and wait a sec. Here it is. The very first live 505.
On April 5, 2007, Arctic Monkeys at Later with Jools Holland. Four small, but very bright stars and a fifth, which always need. A guiding star that always leads Alex to his home. To his heart. And, therefore, to him. If it is a 7-hour flight or a 45-minute drive. Only the path matters. Isn't that right, Alex?
* Alex turns around and looks at his fifth star M.

THE STORY OF MILEX
We continue to watch young Milex on the 2007 joint tour, lovely people! On April 9, 2007 the next part of tour of their native country (UK Fan Club Tour) started.
Tumblr media
A tour in which Milex was already actively working on songs for their beloved creation, The Last Shadow Puppets.
Wikipedia quote: “The Little Flames also supported Arctic Monkeys on their April 2007 UK tour, when Turner and Kane wrote songs together for a collaborative project."
In a video interview Magicrpm from 2008, Miles will say that about Christmas they began to create songs for TLSP “In our bedrooms”
AM performed at Southampton Guildhall, Southampton.
Tumblr media
Thanks to a fan Dancan Seealiar, who shared his photos from the gig and afterparty, so we know that the guys went to the Soul cellar pub. Miles (and indeed the guys from Little Flames) were not noticed nearby, unfortunately(

10th of April, 2007 - Arctic Monkeys and The Little Flames joint gig at Great Hall, Exeter.
We have a review as confirmation. Again unfortunately it's unflattering for The Little Flames:

And unfortunately, it hasn’t yet been possible to find a photo of Miles by this point, but there are incredibly cute photos of Alex and Monkeys.

THE STORY OF MILEX
In October-November 2006 Alex and AM continue to record their second album at the Shoreditch studio (Miloco Garden).
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
At the same time, Miles was creating his own project (The Rascals) and helping with the recording of AM. Not only playing the instrument, but writing music. (which will be discussed later)
The idea of doing something together gradually took shape in a firm decision. Miles has already shown Alex The Standing Next To Me (for example, in an interview for the Sodajerker podcast, August 23, 2018, about the birth of The Last Shadow Puppets, he said:
"The Little Flames and The Arctic Monkeys were having a great time, but that's when my friendship with Al started. I remember once in the dressing room I played him Standing Next to Me, and he said: That's how it all started-him and me-with songs in the dressing rooms, playing together...").
There is also an excerpt of TLSP interview, (if anyone has a source for this interview, please send me a link) where Miles said:
"The decision was made when I left The Little Flames and wanted to create The Rascals. We already had "Standing Next to Me"," Only the Truth "and" In My Room " that we wanted to record. We became best friends three and a half years ago... Long before there were any songs. Obviously, we would have written something sooner or later. Such a return, however, we did not expect. The album seems to have fired."
In many other interviews the guys will confirm this point of view, that the decision to create a milex group was made in the Christmas area. And the preparatory period was marked by the fact that the guys introduced each other to interesting music, shared their findings. Alex will also say that Miles has revealed to him a lot of new music that he had not listened to before and did not perceive music in this way.
Here appears Scott Walker.
And this is an interview with James Ford, where he talks about Miles's participation in the second album of Arctic Monkeys the beginning of a new project, and that he introduced Miles and Alex to Scott... Hmm, and Milex have a different version...

THE STORY OF MILEX
16th of December, 2006 – Deltasonic Christmas Party in Liverpool. Arctic Monkeys joined The Little Flames on stage for a performance of the song that became in some ways a unifying one for the two bands, "Put Your Dukes Up John".
NME, 17 December 2006: Arctic Monkeys joined Little Flames at the Deltasonic Christmas Party in Liverpool last night on 16 December. Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Matt Helders and Nick O'Malley took to the stage to add additional vocals, guitar, drums and bass to the final Scouse punk-popsters song "Put Your Dukes Up John".
"Now we will be joined by our little cousins," – said Little Flames singer Eva Petersen. "It will sound better with Arctic monkeys. "

THE STORY OF MILEX
On one of these days (from December 16 to 25, 2006), Al gave Miles a beige turtleneck, in which he will be on the photosets and the SNTM official video.
«It all started with a polo neck. Al gave me a turtleneck for Christmas», said Kane in the latest issue.
(May 2008, Uncut)
«Even when we joked about doing an album together, we said that'd be the cover: Al would be at a grand piano, there'd be a bit of music manuscript, a cigarette burning in an ashtray, and i'd be wearing a cream polo neck».
And then, at some point, they saw this picture of Amy Sillman's Turtleneck and bought this picture, which was in Miles' previous flat and now it's on the wall in theirs (more on this later) house in London...

Sometimes, in moments like this, I think that the Universe itself is in love with Milex.

THE STORY OF MILEX
Continuing the topic of the influence of Miles ' musical taste on the formation of Alex's musical taste (this is almost an ideal title for a dissertation), we must mention this interview for Q, most likely from May or July, 2007.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This interview was close to an appearance on the Jools Holland show with AM and Miles.
Tumblr media
This part is interesting: "I'm still forming what I'm drawn to and I'm alwaysbecoming drawn to different things," he says. “This week it's Billie Holiday, Gloomy Sunday. My friend lent it me the other day. I’m fond of not being able to explain why a song gets under your skin. With a quiet "thanks” of farewell he wanders off".
Tumblr media
Thank you, friend Mi ;)
