@magicalgirlpictureencyclopedia replied to your post “if u watch someting other than horseshit slow burn...”:
I think it depends on like, people's tastes obviously and etc. I don't mind love triangles like in Kare Kano or Ouran, as it didn't feel like they were the only focus in said stories. The only one in fiction I didn't ever care for was in Ao Haru Ride, personally. Characters matter a lot for me with this trope as well, cause I can't do love triangles if the cast is dull.

thats the thing like enemies to lovers and forbidden romances can be just as bad if the cast sucks but people act like theyre always the Good tropes and fixate on love triangles being bad and dumb and proposing "just make them poly" as a lazy solution regardless of if it makes sense or fits the dynamic. like i get introducing a rival is frustrating when u just want the couple to get together but having a boring couple solo pine for 37 chapters with zero progress isnt any better just cuz theres no rival lmao

I think there is a solution. Wanda fuses her love interests together. Fuse Jean Grey, Vision, and Jericho into one beautiful horror being. Not wonder man, he's busy with Hank.
youre so right anytime theres some sort of love triangle square or whatever the only logical solution is fusion

big fucking rant abt the coda films and audism under the cut, do not reblog (yes we are hard of hearing yes we are a part of the Deaf community)
just watched coda (the apple tv film) n holy shit what a terrible movie. like, the asl was really good (except for the incredibly random simcomming on the part of the hearing main character), but everything else felt grimy with hearing assumptions abt deaf ppl. you can play familial conflict for humor without portraying deaf parents as having no boundaries + manipulative. they dont even touch on WHY hearing family members are often FORCED to interpret: the legal protections that are supposed to make it illegal to deny interpreters in medical and legal settings are routinely ignored with inadequate funding and a drought of qualified interpreters. CODA showed no attempts at trying to get (actually qualified) interpreters or any accommodations deaf people use to interface with hearing society. we see a teenage daughter interpretting (badly) for her deaf parents at an appointment for a genital rash played for laughs with nothing from the deaf family even trying to find another solution. the same scene could have come after a waiting room scene where the nurse says no one called the interpreter agency, or theres no interpreters available, or any of the very real things that happen to deaf people regularly!! they literally had a legal hearing where the only interpreter present is their daughter, which is extremely illegal. that doesnt mean it doesnt happen, it definitely happens and worse, but it doesnt happen because deaf people just force their children to interpret all the time with no attempt to rectify the situation.
if they wanted to portray this family as like specifically dysfunctional in this regard they could have shown them contrasted with other deaf people where its pointed out, but nope!
also the deaf people are portrayed as completely uninterested in music?????????????? as if there arent deaf musicians and dancers?????? newsflash hearing people!!! music isnt just for you!!!! showing deaf ppl in this way was SO gross and orresponsible and we havent even gotten to the very creepy racism prevalent throughout the entire film nor the weird as hell relationship between the main characters older brother and her teenage best friend. again: no contrast with other deaf people or spotlight on deaf musicians. at least in the shitty CODA short (diff director and cast) there were two deaf drummers, and the big musical performance was interpretted so her family could engage
hearing ppl making movies n films n art abt deaf ppl n deaf culture yall need to seriously shut the fuck up and take several seats. yall are not the precious uwu protagonist in Deaf culture. yall dont get to make audism All About You because, newsflash, it never fucking is. when your romantic lil field trips through our culture are over WE'RE STILL HERE. fighting for recognition, respect, and access. get your greedy fucking hands off our culture and learn how to shut up when its not all about you.
you shouldnt need films like the apple CODA or the short film CODA (both written by hearing ppl not involved in the Deaf community) to learn about us and support our struggles. you should not need these fantasies about "not fitting in with either world" where youre the main character in a forbidden love triangle with music and Deaf culture (which is SO fucking audist i cant even begin) in order to form cognitive empathy for what we go through. do not pity us. do not patronize us. do not treat our language like a hobby or a toy or something YOU do for US. learn about our culture in a way that doesnt revolve around you. (we dont want this reblogged bc we arent v articulate and its taken us a long time to come to terms w being hard-of-hearing n being able to say we are in the Deaf community bc of lack of medical support and growing up hearing. we sign to communicate but english is our first language and our community involvement is online due to being homebound. pls respect this boundary)
