I might be cringe. I'm not quite free. Regardless, I'm posting this very indulgent AU. Inspired by this song

vague things in my head while drawing:

Shanks is a pretty big-time artist, and has a diverse, successful career. Most known for fronting the group Red Force

He and [insert fanon ex of choice] collaborated a bit, and he proposed they form an official duo and release an album together. They refuse, claiming creative differences, and Shanks enters an unofficial hiatus

At the same time, Luffy introduces him to Ace, who's trying to break into the scene but has hit a wall with his current project. Shanks agrees to help out as his producer.

Working on a few songs together, they get to know each other well. I'm thinking, talking philosophy when it comes to audio engineering, deceptively light and then loaded conversations about the lyrics/themes, ... and a clear overlap in the kind of music they want to make.

Eventually, Shanks dusts off the demos he'd been working on before his previous split, and resumes making it. He also has a new song he asks Ace to do some collaboration/vocal work on... and they probably start flirting pretty heavily by then, if not earlier. It isn't lost on Ace that the song is about moving on from a failing relationship for the possibility of a new one

The album is a huge hit, they start touring together... idk! anything could happen then. I just desperately needed to get this out of my head so I could work on other things 😂

oh another integral part of the AU is how exceedingly, (accidentally) obviously into each other they are when making public appearances. fans screenshot this clip of shanks tugging ace by his belt loops and spread it across the web in minutes
