OH OH OH CAN I TALK ABOUT AUTISTIC HEADCANONS?? Okay okay- so I'll go in house order ajshdoakdhdjfkfj I'm so exicted!!!
Riddle is RIDDLED with autism and you can't change my mind. Like yeah his mom definitely has a big part on why he's Like That, but the need for routine?? The fucking MELTDOWN when things don't go as planned? When he feels he isn't being listened to/understood and it fills his blood with rage???? When he has trouble understanding tone (the most obvious one being sarcasm, but he's struggled with trying to discern if people are upset with him or not as well, same with patronizing/being teased!!) LIKE?????? He's just like me fr!!!!!
Cater is another that seems so obvious to me, like it's canon he has a way lower social battery than he let's on and he's masking like 24/7! And every autistic person I know is way more popular online than they are irl askgsksshvxkx, it's harder to be perceived as "off" through social media and I think he figured that out awhile ago
Jack's never ending energy when it comes to the things he loves, such as running or gardening? His strict moral code? His discomfort with expressing emotions? His sensitive/heightened senses? (That's probably just a beastman thing but shhhhh)
Literally the whole octatrio. Azul finds comfort in small enclosed spaces and compression, has canon comfort/security items and spaces, has safe foods and not safe foods, more prone to meltdowns than he'd ever let you believe.
You know how Azul needs compression? Yeah the twins HATE that shit, they don't like being restricted but you know what they DO like? Being the compressor! All 3 of them find comfort in giving a good squeeze, only Azul likes to receive the squeeze.
Floyd is SENSORY SEEK9NG ALL THE WAY, he needs loud music he needs to be THROWN he needs to eat rocks and do cartwheels and touch all the weird land textures!!! He HAS to or he's gonna EXPLODE!!!!!
Jade's special interest is mushrooms, that much is obvious, but i also would like to mention that he's kind of the middle ground between Floyd and Azul. He gets so bored and understimulated when everything is smooth sailing, nothing new, no chaos, BUT he needs controlled chaos. He needs chaos that isn't gonna throw him into a sensory overload ya feel? He needs some fun but a specific kind of (cough sadistic cough cough) fun that he controls like puppet master.
I'm gonna stop here so I don't go on forever but!! If you want I can continue!!! I have SO MANY THOUGHTS about these characters and their mental states :D
I LOVE THAT YALL ARE JUST RAMBLING TO ME NOWWW YEAHAHAHA yes yes please continue oh mymy god. I love autism hcs I LOVE HCS SO BAD Literally anyone out there. Come tell me about twst hcs. I'll go absolutely bonkers insane over them <333
Okay I get you so bad rn they're so real. Riddle autism was already so real to me and I love it when people can like actually properly explain how the hc WORKS like this like you make it WORK now I never did think of Jack as autistic, that... GUYS AUTISM TWISTED WONDERLAND REAL??? SO REAL>/????
I'M SO GLAD!!! YOU GET ME !!! WITH FLOYD!!!!!!! I've been fucking saying he needs that loud music and that action but. SLAMS FIST ON TABLE. NO ONE GETS ME. Like I just recently convinced someone that he'd be big on rock/metal music (like me) (I was projecting) because of how dancey it is because of how UPBEAT and CRAZY it can be sometimes!!!!!!!!!!!
Though I personally think that Floyd would be big on compression as well, he's always squeezing ppl but I think he'd also like it if someone squeezed him back. It never happens to him like ever but when it does he just melts. (mecore)
He and Azul wrap their tail/tentacles around each other and SQUEEEEEEZE!!!!!! And sometimes they fall asleep tangled around each other. Side note for that: /p btw I noticed I don't rlly ship the octatrio unless it's yuri jeiazu LOLL Jade being the only one who doesn't enjoy a lot of physical contact IS real to me though. (I love making the twins so #opposites but also #samezies)

AAAAA ty Annie! 😳💌📖💕💕
3. top 5 books this year?
If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin, The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, Rhythm of War by Brandon Sanderson*, By Light We Knew Our Names by Anne Valente, and Bound by Evelyn DaSilva! And this is cheating but I read way less than usual this year and it’s hard to compile a top 5 because of it, so: I read the short story collections The Refugees by Viet Thanh Nguyen and How Long ‘til Black Future Month? by N.K. Jemisin and my faves from each respectively were I’d Love You To Want Me and The Elevator Dancer.
I’m gonna cheat again and list one manga (Spy x Family, unbelievablyyy satisfying and fun) and some of my favorite works by mutuals also. This year Eve @pinkafropuffs published plenty of fanfics in addition to Bound, but if I had to choose one recent favorite I’d say: May Flowers Bloom Wherever You Wander. Such a spectacular, magical end to a delightful series, everything fell together so so wonderfully 💞🌸 highly recommended reading her fanworks even if you’re not familiar with the fandoms!! Ari @haldimilks published Burnish, Burn, a Heathcliff centric Wuthering Heights story that I think about and revisit often<33 You also don’t necessarily have to read Wuthering Heights before reading it and the website it’s on classifies it as a 10 min read so! you have nothing to lose 👀🔥 Ilika @sheherazade wrote and it went unsaid. a Queen’s Thief one shot that blew me away! Her love for this series is contagious and she perfectly nailed the complicated feelings and sincerity between Gen and Irene imo 👑📚
*It came out this year but I only read the preview chapters, so like barely a fraction of this brick of a book, but like.... it’s the fourth book in the series and I know in my bones I’ll love it and I deliberately didn’t screen myself from 60% of spoilers because I’m so impatient and I’m so so EXCITED to finish it next year uff 🤒🤒 and hopefully do the same with the same author’s new novella, Dawnshard, also.
4. Any new authors you love?
Grady Hendrix (my kind of horror/supernatural thriller! love his ideas and he executes them very well too), Toni Morrison (I could read her prose forever. was legit sad for a bit when I reached the end of TBE)
6. anything you meant to read but never got to?
GQISJWJ so many books.... SO many it’s not even funny! I have this thing about reading a landmark number of books every year because anything else makes my brain itch uncomfortably so I was gonna read 5-10 more books than I did last year (125) and had to bite the bullet and chop it down to 75 books last month...the universe’s way of gently knocking me down a peg and reminding me the one thing I can never be is consistent 😌 (I’m kidding) anyway I complied a list of books I DEFINITELY plan to tackle come 2021 and a lot of it is compromised of books I had planned to read and/or started this year! Like The Count Of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, The House at Baker Street by Michelle Birkby, Bending the Willow: Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes by David Stuart Davies, The Book of Collateral Damage by Sinan Antoon, Thorn by Intisar Khanani, The Professor and Vilette by Charlotte Brontë, and The Bear and The Nightingale by Katherine Arden. (So mostly a bunch of Sherlock Holmes adjacent stuff and fairytale retellings.... mecore as hell 🤭)
11. favorite not newly published book?
If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin hands down but also most of Sherlock Holmes in general. Some of my top favorites of what I’ve read so far are: A Study in Scarlet, A Scandal in Bohemia, The Beryl Coronet, The Speckled Band, The Norwood Builder, A Case of Identity, The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, and The Adventure of the Gloria Scott.
13. least favorite books of the year?
Mexican Gothic by Silvia-Moreno Garcia (I was SO excited for this one! it just felt unpolished in terms of plot direction and I questioned a lot of the writing choices... it’s title is basically just a concept and that’s what the book felt like and it unfortunately wasn’t satisfying), The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley (short story collection and McKinley’s works in general are hit or miss for me and this was a collection of misses 🤕 too much description and not enough plot or substance in these particular retellings that were played too straight, like no twists or changes leapt out at or hooked me), And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie (I went into it knowing the original title and more about Christie in general than I wished to, but even without that... I just did not feel for any of the characters and was relieved every time one of them finally bit the dust), A Woman is no Man by Etaf Rum (don’t get me started.... I’ll just say I’m unfortunately aware of why non-Muslims ate this one up and I don’t like it. Tragedy p*rn and not even of the author’s own experiences. Reinforces too many stereotypes and is not a story about Muslims I think American/Western/whatever readers need to be exposed to rn.)
17. surprised by how good they were:
My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante (that end!! Very excited to see how the main characters’ lines progress in the next few books), The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix (this was SUPPOSED to be a popcorn read but I got SO invested it was magical), Pachinko by Min Jin Lee (one of those meandering books that follows generation after generation, dull at times but ultimately I liked the level of detail every other character got like? The author clearly knew what she was talking about and I enjoyed the overall picture she painted of the time periods the book takes place in. The duller parts were necessary and worth it), When The Emperor Was Divine by Julie Otsuka (I just loved the prose of this one and how quick a read it was. None of the main characters had names either which intrigued me a ton and worked in the story’s favor)
23. fastest time it took to read a book?
Mm. The audiobook to The Yellow Wallpaper was like 45(?) min long GWHSHWH I also read Dostoyevsky’s short story A Novel in Nine Letters, which was short and snappy, and I’m also in the middle of reading An Honest Thief and Other Stories, also by him, which I probs won’t finish till next year but the first story was also easy breezy. I’ve mostly read short stories in 1-2 sittings this year, to keep me sane in between homework and freaking out, so I could go on but those stick out to me!

character no. one:
the commander. These are not always selected, but a good chain of command led by a commander should be able to keep everything in check. They need to be good tacticians in dealing with both zombies and bandits. It may make them unpopular and possibly marked men, but commanders need to lay down the law and keep their nerve in stressful times. Commanders normally are the founders of the refuge or former military officers. The lead position is something that can be easy to covet, but it is often unclear where the true power lies. It is not advisable to seek power, as internal squabbling will only destroy the effectiveness of the team. An effective leader must have leadership aptitude, logistical planning skills and good interpersonal skills.
supply manager. When in a moderately large or larger group, people need to set up a form of rationing to save supplies. In this situation, it is best to take a Socialist aproach in which all members are given the same rations if they are pulling their weight. This does not mean to refuse any supplies to a member who is unable to provide supplies or has had a run of bad luck, however. It is suggested that this is a side job for someone who is trustworthy and fair, as well as knowing simple math. These people could end up being some of the most important in a colony, as they can regulate how much people take.
the outlaw. Motto: Rules are made to be brokenCore desire: revenge or revolutionGoal: to overturn what isn’t workingGreatest fear: to be powerless or ineffectualStrategy: disrupt, destroy, or shockWeakness: crossing over to the dark side, crimeTalent: outrageousness, radical freedomThe Outlaw is also known as: The rebel, revolutionary, wild man, the misfit, or iconoclast.
character no. two:
the advisor. An effective group will have well established lines of authority. Everyone should have a voice, but it must be brutally clear to everyone when to speak. Advisors are also valuable in replacing the leader if necessary.
the survivalist. An important role if your team is in a rural area. An outdoors man has extensive knowledge in the outdoors and specializes in hunting, fishing, trapping, camping, general survival, and knowledge of weapon usage.
the lover. Motto: You’re the only oneCore desire: intimacy and experienceGoal: being in a relationship with the people, work and surroundings they loveGreatest fear: being alone, a wallflower, unwanted, unlovedStrategy: to become more and more physically and emotionally attractiveWeakness: outward-directed desire to please others at risk of losing own identityTalent: passion, gratitude, appreciation, and commitmentThe Lover is also known as: The partner, friend, intimate, enthusiast, sensualist, spouse, team-builder.
character no. three:
the enforcer. When dealing with people of lesser authority, it can be tempting to lead by a display of force. This is not always preferable, as fear can lead to hate, rather then the respect a group needs to function well. Fear is a powerful tool, but can quickly turn against the leader if misused. That said, a leader must not be afraid to assassinate, or brutalize when necessary.
the scavenger. Good scavengers are quick, quiet, and observant, and are more useful in the city than in the country. They will need to know vital locations of their designated areas like shortcuts, choke points, dead ends, and more. Scouts and scavengers plan their routes to and from their destinations ahead of time, check buildings for supplies, get said supplies without being noticed as much as possible, look for other survivors, and come back to camp with goods for the fellow survivor.
guide. This is another important role in foreign lands. Knowledge of the land, environment, zombie population and potential hazards can prove essential.
the explorer. Motto: Don’t fence me inCore desire: the freedom to find out who you are through exploring the worldGoal: to experience a better, more authentic, more fulfilling lifeBiggest fear: getting trapped, conformity, and inner emptinessStrategy: journey, seeking out and experiencing new things, escape from boredomWeakness: aimless wandering, becoming a misfitTalent: autonomy, ambition, being true to one’s soulThe explorer is also known as: The seeker, iconoclast, wanderer, individualist, pilgrim.
character no. four:
the medic. In any society, the sick and injured need proper treatment. Everyone should know first aid and other life-saving techniques, but a professional would be advisable. Infections spread quickly to hospitals, and this profession may become scarce. Although one cannot afford to be picky, it is preferred to have medics or general practitioners than a chief executive.Other forms of doctors will be necessary. Vets can help injured or sick animals, psychiatrists can help keep people in good mental health. Even scientific doctors will help store knowledge, although this is more useful in the aftermath.
entertainer. This is a minor role, but important none the less. They can help keep the morale up. A comedy night, a play, even some juggling can help boost the morale of survivors. This should be considered a secondary job, but never underestimate the power of a heart-warming joke.It will help shut up any actors or movie stars who demand they get the "respect" they deserve. It will also prevent people from going insane from boredom and hopelessness, and will go a long way in keeping people mentally healthy.
the innocent. Motto: Free to be you and meCore desire: to get to paradiseGoal: to be happyGreatest fear: to be punished for doing something bad or wrongStrategy: to do things rightWeakness: boring for all their naive innocenceTalent: faith and optimismThe Innocent is also known as: Utopian, traditionalist, naive, mystic, saint, romantic, dreamer.
character no. five:
the cook. Food is a necessity and cooks and chefs are the ones who prepare it for safe consumption. It is likely that ways of cooking, such as boiling or fire cooking, will be used, so deep frying and other methods of cooking that require now expensive luxuries will have little use. Good food, rare in an apocalypse, will also help raise morale.Cooks also know what kind of food can keep everyone in shape and always have good condition, which everyone would welcome.
agricultural expert. Someone who has extensive knowledge in horticulture, animal husbandry, and use of agricultural vehicles and equipment is a must for any long term survival teams who have enough room in their base for such a feat. Farmers know how to grow and manage crops and control livestock. They know the soil, what can grow, how much water it will need, and much more. Without farmers or knowledge on how to grow food, supplies will run out, and scavenging will not always help keep survivors nourished. It is best to learn these skills prior to the inevitable outbreak. It is a highly time-consuming but rewarding option to minimize the dangers outside the base.
the creator. Motto: If you can imagine it, it can be doneCore desire: to create things of enduring valueGoal: to realize a visionGreatest fear: mediocre vision or executionStrategy: develop artistic control and skillTask: to create culture, express own visionWeakness: perfectionism, bad solutionsTalent: creativity and imaginationThe Creator is also known as: The artist, inventor, innovator, musician, writer or dreamer.
character no. six:
the engineer. An engineer keeps a well-organized group out of trouble. Engineers can fix and maintain generators, radios and vehicles. It proves to be an incredibly valuable profession. Although, an engineer is only useful if he has the parts and tools to do what the settlement needs.
priest. This is a fairly minor role. It can be an unpopular job, but belief in a "higher" power can keep people sane and guide people through dark times. Be wary, as some may be radical and promote unsafe acts. Priests can act as a voice of reason in some debates and can be used to ease the guilt of a conflicted survivor after killing a hostile survivor or zombie.
the magician. Motto: I make things happen.Core desire: understanding the fundamental laws of the universeGoal: to make dreams come trueGreatest fear: unintended negative consequencesStrategy: develop a vision and live by itWeakness: becoming manipulativeTalent: finding win-win solutionsThe Magician is also known as:The visionary, catalyst, inventor, charismatic leader, shaman, healer, medicine man.
character no. seven:
the tradesman. Tradesmen include a lot of different professions. Plumbers, carpenters, gunsmiths, builders, Shoemakers. A plumber is considered more valuable than a CEO because they know how to construct things and make sure they don't fall apart (World War Z). Without them, building shelters or transporting fresh water around will be difficult. If a settlement has a gunsmith, they will have to give him supplies to build guns. Any kind will do. If he succeeds, they can arm themselves better. It would also be wise to stock up on ammo by scavenging, looting, raiding, or just plainly making them from what they have.
blacksmith. As bullets begin to run out and the focus leans on more traditional weaponry, a blacksmith, though rare in modern society, will be extremely useful in forging knives, spears and swords, as well as armour to further protect its people from dying at the hands of the living dead.
the caregiver. Motto: Love your neighbour as yourselfCore desire: to protect and care for othersGoal: to help othersGreatest fear: selfishness and ingratitudeStrategy: doing things for othersWeakness: martyrdom and being exploitedTalent: compassion, generosityThe Caregiver is also known as: The saint, altruist, parent, helper, supporter.
left over:
the teacher. Now, more than ever, Children need to learn vital skills, and soon. Teachers can also act as babysitters. They also keep discipline among the children which is important since any noise they make will be heard by zombies or bandits.
interpreter. Being an interpreter is an important role if a group traveling in foreign lands, where it is not clear if native survivors speak their language.
electrical engineer. This is an important role if a team decides to create power from the usage of solar, battery, or hydro power. An Electrical Engineer is highly valuable in this sense.
the scientist. Having a scientist in your group could be a huge asset. Microbiologists, bioengineers, virologists, and immunologists could help to find a vaccine for the outbreak, and could be vital to helping diagnose certain diseases and providing certain amounts of medical care.A botanist (biologist specializing in plants) could help to identify the different kinds of edible plants and help to grow plants once a base has been established. They may also be able to provide medical care through their knowledge of plants.Chemists would be helpful in that they could make basic medicines, different kinds of explosives for the defense of the base, and could purify water and other foods.
fisherman. Par to farmers, fisherman can catch near-limitless food sources, but at a quicker rate. Skilled cooks will need the ability to prepare the fish that are caught for consumption.
explosives. Explosives are a powerful force, and several people should be made proficient in manufacturing and operating such weaponry for when needed. In the wrong hands, explosives can be extremely dangerous.
lookout. Lookouts take to the highest point in the settlement and keep an eye on the surrounding area. Lookouts will need a light source at night, binoculars, and an alarm which they can use to alert everyone else, in case danger arises. If armed, which is highly advised, lookouts become marksmen and are their settlement's first line of defense. They can take out lone or small groups of zombies or bandits that approach the base. Their weapons should be long range, and preferably with scope and suppressor attachments. It is advisable to assign working shifts to lookouts and marksmen.
soldier. These guys should be strong so they can help keep the peace among the survivors. During non-conflict times, they will be the police force. If their settlement is attacked by bandits or zombies, they become foot soldiers. Make sure they know the law, enforce it and most of all, perform it effectively and fairly. Military combat arms personnel, combat veterans, and special response team personnel are excellent examples of individuals that can serve in this role.
hunter. These are more useful in the country than in the city, as they have a natural sense of the terrain. Hunting either zombies or whatever animals remain in the area, these can help keep the supplies coming in or threats such as feral animals under control. They can supply meats, furs, bones and help clear lone zombies from the area.
raider. These need to be some of the toughest, most rugged people of their settlement, willing to kill for the benefit of their people. Although an unpopular decision, raiders will be needed if supplies are stolen, they are unable to create their own, or they are too lazy to obtain it themselves. Raiders should be trustworthy. Raiding will make them and their settlement feared and possibly attacked in reprisal, so they should only raid sparingly, if at all.
the ruler. Motto: Power isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.Core desire: controlGoal: create a prosperous, successful family or communityStrategy: exercise powerGreatest fear: chaos, being overthrownWeakness: being authoritarian, unable to delegateTalent: responsibility, leadershipThe Ruler is also known as: The boss, leader, aristocrat, king, queen, politician, role model, manager or administrator.
the sage. Motto: The truth will set you freeCore desire: to find the truth.Goal: to use intelligence and analysis to understand the world.Biggest fear: being duped, misled—or ignorance.Strategy: seeking out information and knowledge; self-reflection and understanding thought processes.Weakness: can study details forever and never act.Talent: wisdom, intelligence. The Sage is also known as: The expert, scholar, detective, advisor, thinker, philosopher, academic, researcher, thinker, planner, professional, mentor, teacher, contemplative.
the jester. Motto: You only live onceCore desire: to live in the moment with full enjoymentGoal: to have a great time and lighten up the worldGreatest fear: being bored or boring othersStrategy: play, make jokes, be funnyWeakness: frivolity, wasting timeTalent: joyThe Jester is also known as: The fool, trickster, joker, practical joker or comedian.
the hero. Motto: Where there’s a will, there’s a wayCore desire: to prove one’s worth through courageous actsGoal: expert mastery in a way that improves the worldGreatest fear: weakness, vulnerability, being a “chicken”Strategy: to be as strong and competent as possibleWeakness: arrogance, always needing another battle to fightTalent: competence and courageThe Hero is also known as: The warrior, crusader, rescuer, superhero, the soldier, dragon slayer, the winner and the team player.
the everyman. Motto: All men and women are created equalCore Desire: connecting with othersGoal: to belongGreatest fear: to be left out or to stand out from the crowdStrategy: develop ordinary solid virtues, be down to earth, the common touchWeakness: losing one’s own self in an effort to blend in or for the sake of superficial relationshipsTalent: realism, empathy, lack of pretenseThe Everyman is also known as: The good old boy, regular guy/girl, the person next door, the realist, the working stiff, the solid citizen, the good neighbor, the silent majority.
