i wish everyone who made kit connor feel he had to come out a very merry FUCK YOU. you forced an eighteen year old into coming out publicly, before he was ready, when he stated many many times he wanted to keep it private. how many more times does this shit have to fucking happen before some of you fucking clock that YOU CANNOT QUEERBAIT IN REAL LIFE. this is the natural end to the discourse of ‘if somebody is in the public eye playing a queer person they owe us their sexuality’, and it’s DEEPLY FUCKED UP, they do NOT owe you an answer, and this mindset JUST FORCED AN EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD TO OUT HIMSELF BEFORE HE WAS READY TO

Can we just at talk about how toxic it is to say that a person is queer baiting? I feel like if a company does it then you can be upset but if a person is portraying a queer character in the media or dressing a certain way literally shut the fuck up. This happens so fucking often.
Take Harry Styles the dude has been harassed about his sexuality for years and when he started dressing more feminine people accuse him of queer-baiting like doing that isn’t reinforcing toxic gender roles.
I don’t think individual people can queer bait because that involves assuming their sexuality and their personal lives. I feel like as part of the lgbtq community it’s more important to me that we get queer characters portrayed more often. I don’t give a fuck if they are portrayed by straight people or what the actors sexuality is. If they play the part well that’s all that matters. It’s already fucking hard to get lgbtq representation now we’re forcing people who dared to be apart of something, that was huge for the community, to come out.
I don’t know bro it honestly makes me sad that this happened to Kit Connor. He’s sexuality shouldn’t and doesn’t matter. And it’s extremely fucked up that it got to the point where he had to out himself. I know if I had been forced to out myself before I was ready that would be traumatic.
It’s better to have representation in shows like heart-stopper then to have actors who aren’t ready come out as queer or even discussion their sexuality if they don’t feel ready to do so. That should not be apart of the requirements for being apart of a queer project.
And last thing, image what it would be like to be famous. To have everyone know everything about you. To have people you trusted leak your secrets. Wouldn’t you want to keep something for yourself? Wouldn’t you want to stay as private as possible? Their just trying to do their job and they have people constantly obsessing over their life. I’m not saying it’s something we can necessarily fix but it is sad that famous people aren’t able to have privacy and that the public tends to act like we are owed something by others. We aren’t owed an explanation, we aren’t owed a comment that should be up to the person to decide what they want to share.
