Part 26: V) Ungod
November, 2019
Night falls over the island where Mothra watches over her healing brother. He’s fast asleep, but Mothra remains completely alert. She had detected four of Red’s MUTOs wandering the earth outside the ash cloud that covered a large portion of North America. Three of those four were now dead, but the final one had disappeared from her sight.
Closing her eyes, Mothra attempts to locate the beast again. The creature hadn’t vanished into thin air through teleportation as Ghidorah had done previously. She could still feel the creature’s presence on the planet’s surface, but her own psychic abilities were being clouded. Red was trying to hide the final MUTO from her without calling for a retreat. For this reason she remains on edge and calls for Solomon to return to the island until it can be accurately located.
Solomon crosses the horizon, the island coming into view, just in time to see the ocean below him, and for miles around the island, glow orange. Picking up speed, he reaches the island quickly and lands next to Mothra and the now awake Battra.
“Looks like I got here just in time,” Solomon looks at Mothra, breathing deeply to catch his breath. “Guess he was trying a sneak attack. Battra’s injury presents a handicap for both of you in battle, it makes sense tactically. He was just a little too slow…”
“Don’t become overconfident,” Mothra replies. “I still have no idea what side of the island the attacker will come from.”
“Right, I’ll circle from above,” Solomon says. “However he’s making all this light come out of the sea, it should at least make it easier to spot him, even in this darkness.”
Solomon takes to the skies and begins to patrol the island.
Battra looks up to his sister, “I could try to flush it out. A quick electrical shock into the water might do the trick.”
“Solomon and I can manage, save your energy, concentrate on--” her head suddenly flicks to the ocean beside her, “Solomon!” She shouts.
He’s by her side in an instant, and follows her eyes to the glowing sea. The light begins to brighten in front of them, draining from the surrounding areas and collecting in a single point. An unearthly howl echoes from the water and the light is extinguished. The island is once again bathed in the pitch darkness of an ash-clouded night sky.
Solomon’s eyes glow red, piercing the blackness, and his gaze is soon met with an enormous burst of flame flying from the sea. Moving out of the way, the fireball smashes into the dead jungle behind them. Flames explode across the irradiated forest instantly and the light of the inferno reveals their foe.
Climbing from the water is a bipedal creature that stands more than twice Solomon’s height. Its eye sockets are empty and stare soullessly at the three MUTOs before it. Rows of sharp teeth line its open mouth, which curls upward, imitating a smile. The creature’s skin is a muted red, and thick gray hair runs from the top of its head to the base of the spine.
Solomon looks up at the monster and takes a deep breath. He takes step forward and looks back at Mothra, nodding slightly.
The beast howls again, and quickly releases a wide stream of fire from its mouth, bathing the entire beach in flame. Mothra jumps in front of Battra and quickly puts up a psychic barrier to keep the blaze at bay. She grabs him in her legs and takes off again, retreating to the other side of the island. Looking back she can already see Solomon exchanging blows with the creature. It swings muscular and clawed arms at the flying MUTO but Solomon dodges between blows and strikes back at the monster.
Setting her brother down on the beach, Mothra looks at Battra, “I’m going to help Solomon,” she says quickly.
Battra nods and Mothra takes off again, flying over the jungle which now completely engulfed in flame, she returns to the fight.
As Mothra arrives the creature looses another bout of fire from its mouth. She quickly erects another barrier around Solomon. When the conflagration clears, he turns to her and gives a thumbs up with a wink before continuing his flurry of speedy attacks.
The enemy is bleeding from multiple wounds Solomon has inflicted, but it doesn’t seem to be weakening. If anything the creature actually seems to be getting faster. Its swipes are getting closer and closer to actually hitting Solomon and finally its clawed hand finds its target. Striking Solomon, the beast swats him out of the air like a fly and he crashes into the sand with a loud thud.
Dazed by the impact, Solomon doesn’t notice that the creature is about to bring its massive foot down on him. Mothra has to rush in to save him, flying under the stomping foot, she uses her telekinesis and stops the creature from putting its foot down. Mothra pushes the foot, which is as large as she is, back up quickly, flipping the beast onto its back. It gets back up quickly, but in that time, Solomon regains his senses and returns to the sky.
Shifting her telekinetic focus to the the beast’s muscles, Mothra can’t prevent it from moving completely, but she significantly slows down its movements. With Solomon no longer having to concentrate on dodging, he strikes without holding back. The creature howls as Solomon tears long gashes across its flesh. It opens its mouth to pour another firestorm across the beach, but Mothra quickly constructs a barrier around its jaw and the flame extinguishes.
Continuing to strike unobstructed, Solomon does significant damage to the creature, but again, it appears as if it's having no effect.
“Mothra, I hate to say it but I don’t think brute force is gonna be enough for this guy,” Solomon says through gasping breaths. “Got any ideas?”
“I have,” she replies, “but I’ll need to break my telekinesis on the beast to use it, and I’ll need a bit of time.”
“I can do that,” Solomon says. “If I concentrate on dodging I should be able to keep myself alive for a bit.”
“Alright then.”
Mothra drops the telekinetic force slowing the monster down. It quickly goes back to striking rapidly at Solomon. He bobs and weaves around the swinging arms of the beast, not bothering to try and find moments to strike anymore, he manages to keep up with the attacks, but only just.
Solomon begins to tire, an almost imperceptibly small decrease in his speed causes one the beast attacks to graze his back. He’s able to regain his balance in time to dodge the next swipe just as Mothra calls out to him.
“Move!” she shouts.
Solomon flings himself sideways, out of the creatures range, and crashes into the beach again. He looks up and sees Mothra hovering over the burning forest, the creature’s gaze fixed on her. The air around her is filled with uncountable flaming trees torn from the jungle, a slight blue glow clinging to their edges. The beast takes a step toward her and Mothra flicks her antennae. The trees shoot through the air like hundreds of enormous, flaming arrows. Each once strikes the monster across its body, burrowing deep into its flesh. A particularly large number of them pierce the chest over the heart.
The creature releases a tiny gasp, before falling onto its stomach. Mothra flies up to the creature and looks down. She slices through the beast’s torso, using her psychic abilities with surgical precision. She holds the creature’s tattered and splinter-filled heart in front of her and collapses it into a singularity. Mothra drops the miniature black hole onto the body of the beast and it's quickly sucked into the tiny event horizon. With a deep breath, she holds one of her legs out in front of her and draws a very short line. The line erupts in a bright blue light and widens in the center revealing an empty darkness somehow even blacker than the night, a hole in reality itself, a portal to another dimension. Mothra pushes the singularity into the hole then erases the portal.
