-. Ji Hyun - Celebrity verse (Under Construction)

Manifesting Ferre and Alex's bullet points power abilities, I'm compiling this little post with things about Hyun for this verse before polishing it and eventually adding it to their about (and bothering the SHIT out of Lynnie's characters, I MEAN-); I just need to put the brainstorm brain bubbles somewhere, YAOH-

Hyun is human for this verse, so all details of her main verse pertaining to her gumiho nature are understandably removed (hehehe, past lives though?).

She's physically perma-fem presenting, but she/they genderfluid (closeted, I mean, consider the industry, leans slightly more into 'she') Pansexual, but still very much single-ship with @theimpalpable 's Yeong Boram, that's just... the way it be, I love love. (Which, by the way, means her boyfriend is a CEO~ PLEASE read up on Boram, I love him so mUCH)

Hyun is a 30-year-old super-model of sorts in the South Korean modelling industry, she's made her debut some-time in her late teens and has climbed the ranks of relevance, desirability and brand-deals ever since. Even at an 'old age' such as hers, her youthful appearance (and expertise within the industry) still garners her love and admiration from especially the impressionable female audience following her on social media, and agencies who like working with someone who knows what they're doing.

A few years prior to the 'present', Hyun has publicly announced her interest in venturing deeper into the entertainment industry and stepping out slightly from the beauty industry: not a very welcomed move. Models transition into acting relatively often enough, and actors are almost always simultaneously models, brand deals, ads, sponsorships, not to mention you can only truly make it into both industries if you flex your pretty privilege. Which is why it's so much easier for the populi to forgive a bad actor for being bad if they're at least pretty. Not to delve into how race plays a part in determination of beauty standards, Hyun was set out to make the transition just as easily... so what happened?

If there's one thing people hate about women and fem presenting people... is that they're women and fem presenting people. A woman is adored... until she does something someone else considers 'stepping out of line' and BOOM, dead in a ditch. Hyun does like stepping out of line: prioritizing brands and agencies she actually likes, refusing to work with people she doesn't, caring more about the crew than whatever fashion designer shows their face around, openly expressing her general distaste for the fashion elite, honestly... a bitch. At least according to the people, once news of her 'ungrateful, unprofessional, diva behaviour' started flooding the internet.

A scandal ruined her chances of an easy transition from modelling into acting.

You might argue, WAHOO, feminism~ Hyun is a hero~ No. A lot of people get hurt all the time, a lot of women and fem presenting folks have fought and lost these battles. Hyun never even took political stances, pretended nothing bad ever happened to the world in her bubble of notoriety and fame. The world has never helped her, what does she care about helping the world. But now that bubble burst. And while Hyun doesn't crumble with the lack of it, it sure as fuck pissed her off.

Problem is... she's just a model. Most people in the regular world know her as mannequin of expensive things, she doesn't manage her accounts, she doesn't talk to people, she barely even shows up to places: her beauty is the primary reason for her success, not her PR-ing. So... how to move on from here?

The scandal: I have NO IDEA yet, but I do believe she intended moving into acting for very specific reasons, either to get back at someone or destroy something from within, Hyun may not act like it in any verse but they do actually absolutely hold grudges, one of the things most debilitating to their mental health at times; so whatever happened, was orchestrated specifically to ruin her reputation.

Someone did something they shouldn't have, something he shouldn't have, a man most likely, maybe some kind of harassment, maybe something along the lines of Pro.misi.ng Y.oung W.oma.n but kept hush hush, maybe it wasn't anything that serious but definitely a personal attack against Hyun and Hyun simply snapped, either way... she's hear to make a few pigs squeal in pain.

Hyun also doesn't partake in 'scenes' and 'public scandals'; if she's attending some big social event (against all odds) and you start shit with her, throw a drink at her, she'll laugh in your face (if she can be bothered) and bill you the damages. Head held high, continues sipping on her drink. There's a good chance she just goes get changed and comes back. She is very condescending to people who try to start drama. I'm saying shit like 'oh sweetie, I don't play with kindergarteners' or instantly cutting all ties if she sniffs that kind of behaviour. If befriending Hyun elevates your status, best believe she does not care and will get rid of you if you start shit, good luck keeping that status. This also works against her, if you play your cards right, making her look even more like a diva.

Her way of putting you in your place is not even deeming you worth the trouble.

Now, the question: is this attitude always possible in these industries? Nay~ There are always consequences, there'll always be people stronger than you, with better ties. That's the fun of the plot, though~

She works in the fashion industry specifically and has had some minor cameos in shows as herself mostly.

I tried to sweet-talk around her demeanour but she really simply is a diva isn't she lmao at least she doesn't lose her shit as quickly as Some Celebrity Characters

YOU KNOW WHAT SHE'D DO? She'd help Kang Yohan. I don't know why I thought of that but she'd fuck around and find out and help TDJ's Kang Yohan if he needed a model's services, she'd be down to mess around there.

She's... odd, when it comes to how willing she's to fight for human rights, things she actually does secretly care about, feminism and classism and queer issues and systematic issues, but... she never EVER uses what platform she has. Ever.

Her Instagram handle is @/rubonyhyun which stands for Ruby Onyx Hyun (reference to a pet name Boram has for them in canon verse, I will name-drop Boram as OFTEN as possible) and her PR team runs it... most of the time, at least. She refuses to get a TikTok (she has one, but it's private for mindless scrolling), and her KakaoTalk is obviously private.

-. MORE HEADCANONS for Hyun Celebrity Verse

The BRAINROT I have for this verse, gosh... (rat bastard character for this verse also coming up~ Lynnie, I WILL give you that bastard, MARK MY WORDS!)

Her first ventures into acting where actually classic MV cameos that models seem to do here and there; especially when she was first rising to fame, so early twenties, she'd be featured in that classic 'look at how cool this artist is he can get models~', eye candy and the likes way; the older she'd get, the likelier she'd be to feature as the actual love interest rather than a meatbag (and choose who to work with)

I like to think that she featured with artists like Ra.in yknow~ or people she'd actually enjoy, like Crush, Gray, or as a mate in Ta.eyeon videos maybe (if that's even a thing)

At one point her cameos became less 'oh a model' and more 'is that Ji Hyun?! OMG~'

YOU KNOW WHAT what if she's the voice at the beginning of Jessi's Spirit Animal, you know the one, that'd be so much fun what the fuck, she'd love Jessi (on that note, fluent in English queen~?)

She's not even that much into fashion, as I feel I've kind of established relatively well, the only fashion designer she can actually get behind is Kang Ae-ri ( @stillresolved ) because other than THAT'S HER BESTIE Hyun also feels like Ae-ri is one of the few people left in the business who actually has something to say, something to show, a passion for her craft, and not the performative kind where you call yourself eccentric to get away with being a douchebag, no, Ae-ri actually gives a shit, and Hyun respects that

Even though she's a clothing hanger (her words), when it comes to endorsing brands outside the fashion industry, Hyun likes perfume deals the most: she's a big fan of scents and the likes, she actually likes 'selling' perfumes she'd wear on herself

On the other end of the spectrum: skin-care products, she fucking hates that industry, oversaturated with scammers and bullshit

ONTO THE DEFAMATION LAWSUIT lmao I think I'm settling on a designer being the cause of her trouble: he publicly painted as an abuser who mistreats everyone around her, especially the crew and anyone easily painted as an underdog, this designer is someone Hyun has had issues with for years; she's kept herself relatively close-lipped and they simply had a very tense work-place relationship until Hyun's incoming departure from the fashion industry has prompted her to put him in his goddamn place for his mistreatment and abuse of the women especially who work for him; long story short, he did not like that and turned it around and against her

Hyun's mother is Old Money, Hyun's father owns a cruises company, Hyun's older sister is a former Olympic bronze medalist and now activist, a lot of people assume that's how she got into modelling in the first place, money nepotism, WRONG! She's never seen a cent of her mother's money for most of her life, Hyun's father kind of forgets he has children, Hyun's sister is dealing with her own shit and doesn't have a good reputation for being an LGBTQ+ rights activist anyway, so Hyun was....... scouted~ Like those classic kpop scouting stories you hear, you know

She was also offered to become a trainee, yknow, for the visuals only but she refused, it wouldn't have been for her, she's got no pronounced musical talent and even just thinking about learning choreos fatigued her (she also doesn't like dancing tbh)

In terms of how public Boram and her are, I'll have to talk to Alex about it, but prior to this relationship, she's been OF COURSE target of all sorts of dating rumours

Once she was approached about potentially dating a popular 2nd gen kpop idol and she laughed in their face... she had a public appearance & interview ban for weeks after that

I have to incorporate foxes into this verse as well, of course, so what if an upcoming potential role of hers was that of a gumiho 👀

Funniest about this is... Hyun is a good actor; translating the masking and trickster nature of a gumiho into this verse, it just makes sense, we could easily make her as good as P.ar.k Gy.u-yo.un.g herself

And she would actually like it, she doesn't know it yet BUT I DO, Hyun would love acting, she'd abandon the fashion industry as main gig real fucking fast

We need to cast her in something with Se.o In.-G.uk (NOBODY TOLD ME HE'S IN SOMETHING WITH PARK SO-D.AM RN, GOSH DARN IT)

While she avoids public appearances unless super necessary for whatever reason (such as the one Bellamy ( @usuhan ) is offering her 👀), she's likelier to attend if they're charity events... but she's a little picky there, too

Later, a little later Hyun, will curse herself out for wincing, however minutely as she does, when her concentration is disrupted by the voice of a person she had very much known to be there.

She doesn't like being caught off guard. The only thing saving her from chewing on this until her gums hurt is the fact that one thing she likes even less is chewing on issues until her gums hurt.

Call it indifference. Hyun prefers 'respecting my own energy'. Call that one a lie.

Either way, there is a minute wince when her focus is interrupted, and her gaze flickers as though expecting to be dragged into a tussle of all things. She has gotten her fair share of close calls with hair-pulling and screaming matches, and she can't claim she's always come out of them wholly unscathed.

But the gentleman who's cane she returns - almost begrudgingly, she'd enjoyed the weight of it in her hands - doesn't look like the kind of person who'd get her into trouble. Look at him. He's too... average might not be the right word.

Fine features, handsome enough, perhaps not as impressive as a queen or a king but... certainly not a pawn. A rook, maybe. A bishop. A knight. One of those pieces.

"Well, I didn't mean getting into it physically," she leans in, blocking off bystanders with a show of her palm to them, the back of her hand supposedly meant to cover her mouth as she speaks. "Unless you know what you're talking about, I'm not about to refuse good intel."

But it's only a joke, and the idea alone would be more detrimental to her brand than her being her brand, imagine how awful executing it would be. Still... an almost-girl can dream.

A heavy sigh. And then... focus.

Concentration.

She turns to stare at him.

"Is that what you're here for? I've never seen you at one of these. And I do make a habit of noticing."

"You're young," Hyun drags her luggage closer to herself. It's usually for show, her struggle, when she's at airports, when she's at companies, when she's here or there and too lazy to carry her own stuff, or years ago, when she was younger, more trapped in the idea of 'what men want they shall get', and faked to be needy while her skin crawled.

She didn't struggle a breath while dragging the overflowing suitcase to the balcony of her hotel room. She stops. Opens it with a pleasant click, and breathes out, hands on her hips: gorgeous clothes, ugly clothes, a brand currently trying to destroy her.

"But you look like you've learned how to bite," she leans down to point a little smile and a perfect finger at Akina's eyebrow. "Or how to survive getting bitten."

She crouches down and digs her hands into expensive clothes designed by a man trying to destroy her. Her hair always moves so perfectly when she turns her head, now too, when she looks up at the Japanese woman that looks like she was written to die at the end of the book... but not without putting up a fight, of course.

"You're also very pretty. If you don't tell anyone about this, I'll owe you one. You should take advantage of that."
