So, to clear my head after KH3 I decided to watch something that also happened to come out on the 29th: Reign of the Supermen.  As a Superman fangirl, this was very soothing to me and it was an excellent adaptation of the comic book storyline from which it was drawn.   Below are spoilers and personal opinions. You have been warned but tl;dr from my last post, I’m less angry but still there are those who might not like what I have to say.
After getting some Superman bliss vibes I can now with a clearer head re-evaluate KH 3
I’m still monstrously disappointed in it. Like SO disappointed with it but that’s because it does have good points to it that the parts that I felt were weak or laggy really dragged those bits down.
Especially with how smooth the game is. Not ONCE did it glitch out on me. Not once!
Battle mechanics grew on me. I wasn’t sure about them at first but once I got the hang of them I really liked them. Especially the keyblade form changes.
Mini-games: still hate all forms of them. I will always loathe mini games.
Never not going to be annoyed with Twilight Town’s tininess.
Never not going to be annoyed over Sora being the butt of all jokes and getting shafted in the end whereas the game bent over fucking backwards to give everyone ELSE a happy ending. Well, except Kairi who honestly could have been written out of the game beyond “Hero’s girl” and nothing would have changed. She did nothing. Square dealt her such a shitty hand and gave her an awful role.
Square, I’m starting to think you hate certain types of female characters, because you either fridge them (Luna and her prototype Stella who would have been dead all along in Versus XIII) or you give them shit roles (Luna again, and others maybe-definitely Kairi), or you give them no appreciable personality aside from a handful of traits.
With the exception of two worlds, I enjoyed the worlds very much and the Frozen world’s annoyance stemmed from the fact that It got to have its iconic music but next to no others got to have that.
On another note: The music was partially recycled. I have aural memory, so this is something I can pick up on. I recognized huge chunks of it from KH 2. KH2’s soundtrack wasn’t bad per se but on the other hand it was jarring to hear so much of KH2’s soundtrack appearing again and the Disney songs were almost nonexistent beyond four or five of them.
Side gripe: I wish SE had cut the piano from behind Rapunzel singing the flower song because it clashed.
I think they should have cut Winnie the Pooh and just given us the clock tower instead. Shoulda cut the game-and-watch mini-games too, but we’ve established that I hate mini games with a burning fury.
Over all, the game was too short, detailed yes but short.
It felt more like the last chapter of one book with a cliff hanger that they leaned too heavily into and I don’t know if I want to indulge them even after my Superman induced better mood.
Still, no replay value to this. Even after all is said and done, I don’t see the point in playing this again. I might play at my save file here or there but nope. We’re done. Hell, there aren’t even any tournaments and the collectibles are....lackluster. Neat, but lackluster.
I might still think FF XV had a bad ending but it didn’t feel like a cheat to me. It meant a lot more than the KH 3 ending and I cared more about everyone by the end. There was also a lot more to do in FF XV.
By the end of KH3, I actually didn’t care about anyone anymore (except Sora) because SE tried too hard with the heartstring tugging and tugged me the wrong way.
So, I can see why someone might like this game. I can see why someone might even love it.
Me. I think the best I can come up with is an annoyed “meh.”
