Woke up from a dream where I wrote about the turtles returning home post-finale. It’s their first time seeing what’s become of the lair. They’re quiet; it’s a lot of destruction to take in.

At first, Splinter thinks the shock has his sons stunned; overwhelmed. But lo and behold, he’s proven wrong.

After a wisecrack that doesn’t land, Leo’s first order as leader of the Mad Dogz is to tidy up the lair. Raph puts a hand on Leo’s shoulder; they share a determined smile.

With their newfound powers, they begin the process of picking up the pieces of their former lives (literally). Raph’s ninpo clones help clear the rubble while Leo teleports here and there, lending a hand wherever needed. Donnie’s ninpo powers function just like the utility feature on his tech-bō; an unlimited source of mystic power tools.

It’s during the cleaning that Mikey finds the remnants of his kusanari-fundo. He picks up the broken chain links and palms the cold weapon in his hands; it’s usually so warm…

Elsewhere, Donnie discovers his smashed tech-bō. He cradles it delicately in open palms. He almost didn’t recognize it. April sits down beside him, patting him on the back of his battle-shell…

Leo stubs his toe on the hilt of his ōdachi. He pulls it out from the rubble, expecting to see its long, familiar blade, but it’s just the lower-half. He quietly examines it, his brows furrowed at the memory of the Shredder and how he snapped the metal like a twig…

Raph notices everyone’s grown quiet. He questions this, to which one of his ninpo clones presents him with the fragments of his tonfas.

Raph gets it now. He debates chucking the tonfas over his shoulder, as a sign he’s moved past the ordeal. But is that anyway to respect the piece of him that helped him become the turtle he was now?

He pockets the splintered pieces of wood. Leo does the same with the hilt of his ōdachi, and so does Donnie and Mikey with their formers weapons — their former identities. They’ve grown so much since then…

When all is said and done, the lair is rebuilt better than ever. There’s even a room for Draxum — a study.

And mounted on the wall in the family room are their old weapons. They’re surrounded by photos Donnie was able to salvage from his room. Some of the photos are new.

They all gather in the family room: April, Draxum, Mikey, Raph, Donnie, Leo, and Splinter. They’re watching an unreleased Jupiter Jim movie where JJ meets Lou Jitsu. Splinter spouts trivia every five minutes while Shelldon makes popcorn.

(I feel like this is a story that’s been told before. And if it has, I’d like to read it 👀 lol)
