ive been exposed to some niche drama (marching band related) but in learning the specifics of the situation ive been hit with the realization that not everybody grew up fundie evangelical and might be lacking some of the context that makes this particular incident so strange. that said i have a question for all the non fundies out there

#speak friend and enter #the drama in question surrounds a performance at the national marching band championships #by an arkansas high school who did a tent revival themed performance #which is a very strange choice to say the least but a lot of people seemed very scandalized about what a tent revival actually is?#and im familiar w them so i was a little confused by that reaction but objectively if you dont know abt them then yeah theyre weird as hell #my particular church thought tent revivals as a practice were blasphemous because they relied so heavily on music #(i went to a church that has been compared to the church from footloose bc they're anti instrumental music in services)#but a lot of the same preaching styles used in the church i went to were derived from revival style preaching/theology #bc the movement grew out of revivalism. my grandma used to go to revivals tho
