Laal Khanjeer! an exploration of cultural disconnection and insecurity and complex grandmother mother daughter relationships!! a SWANA country depicted WITHOUT THE GAUDY YELLOW FILTER??!!

this show…this brilliant show always knows the way to my heart.

and they DID end up heavily softening that Djinn thing I was worried about before by explaining that yes it’s just a lack of a better word term used to describe these inter-dimensional beings who are similar to Djinn of Islamic belief but aren’t actually those very things. another win!

#ms marvel #everytime I have an issue with this show it rectifies it by the next episode #no one is doing it like her #my beloved girlie Kamala #possibly the best episode yet #v excited for the next one #the depiction and discussion of Karachi and the partition in particular was excellent #never straying from the harsh reality of that displacement and the anguish throughout #and though involving the Djinn in any capacity will still leave me sour for a show with otherwise perfect Muslim & South Asian rep #I like the way they reduce the ick of that backstory here #as less a one to one these people are real Djinn and instead going for a more nuanced explanation #that the Clandestine were only CALLED that by people of the area they were first exiled to #like if Loki landed in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia of the past he’d be considered to be like these (again I must add very real) figures #because of the similarities #I also like that it’s stated the Noor dimension is only one of many between our world and that which is beyond us only privy to Allah #it’s another great way of highlighting the actual Djinn and their dimension as separate from this MCU superhero plot stuff
