“Silence. My tone has nothing to do with your physical state.” Reconnecting with Hector was proving to be more ... difficult, then she had originally anticipated. They continued to argue, and well into a mission where they were supposed to be working together. A fight had left her former friend wounded, and now, they were camped for her to tend to him.

“You are still a reckless fighter as always. If you put your strength into defense instead of offense, I would not have to patch you up like this.”

“I was the coward?!” Adira lashed out, swinging her sword down at the smaller man. Sparring had gotten much more ... aggressive between the two. Quirin would never approve this as a means to talk out ones feelings.

“I traveled the world in search of answer, you hid yourself away in a tree!” A hand grabbed his collar. Lifting him off the ground, Adira slammed him against the nearest wall.

“I sought to understand what you were too terrified to question! You speak of cowardice, yet you refuse to acknowledge your own!”

Adira liked to think of herself as someone above being angry over petty things. Losing in a sparring match was one of these petty things. Hector was usually one to get frustrated, but not her. She liked to keep a cool head during training, seeing failure as a chance to improve rather than a dead end.

This however, was not one of those times.

Artenis had come up with a new weapon, a bit shaped like a bo staff, but shorter. Turns out this ‘machine’ was one of her more recent inventions. Adira had volunteered for a quick test of it, seeing it much better for her than Quirin or Hector. Though, that didn’t stop her brothers in arms from watching on the sidelines. Adira was prepared to take anything Artemis’ new weapon could throw at her.

The problem, however, was that Adira couldn’t even land a hit. Artemis didn’t tell them how her weapon worked, no doubt saving the lecture for later, but every time Adira got close, a flash of light would blind her long enough for her to get hit or knocked off her feet. Once would be fine, twice was alright, but the repetitive nature was starting to get on the warriors nerves. Hector’s jeering from the sidelines didn’t help either.

After being thrown to the dirt once more Artemis stood over her, hands clasping her new weapon. “Well,” she said with a smile, flipping her bangs out of her eyes. “Guess we can say this was a total success.” There was a pause, and a small laugh. “Ha! For me at least.”

That made Adira’s blood boil. She sprang up, feet firmly planted on the ground. There was another flash but she quickly spun around. One hand reached out, latching onto the staff before Artemis’ face faded back into view. Without thinking, Adira pulled back her other hand and lashed out, slapping her friend clear across the face.

The scene froze. Hector let out a single burst of laughter. Artemis gasped, her own hand reaching up to her cheek with a positively shocked look on her face, as if Adira had just insulted her family.

Adira immediately regretted the action. “Oh! Aaah! I’m sorry!” She let go of the staff, placing her hands together and instantly bowing in reference. “Forgive me! I acted without honor! I did not mean to insult you. Your invention is just ... incredibly frustrating.”

almost Christmas means it wasn’t Christmas!!!!

Artemis. No. Not her.

“Artemis!” She cried, tears making her red face paint run on one side. Maybe if Adira had paid more attention. Maybe if she had intervened more. Maybe if she had DONE something this wouldn’t be happening.

To flee was cowardly. Hector was taking it the hardest. Adira wanted to stay too, but Quirin had grabbed them both, shouting that they needed to run. It was awful. It felt like betraying her. Adira knew it wasn’t Artemis in there. It couldn’t be. She needed help.

But she couldn’t help her sister now. She had to find answers elsewhere. Adira broke away from Quirin, rushing towards Artemis’ lab. If she was going to journey to find the answers, she would need documents to start somewhere.
