It is very sad that some are getting their hopes up for an extra episode or something else. I understand, I would like it too, but many are going to end up hurting worse than last Saturday. I recently heard the interview with the actress who plays Helene's ex, she is from Colombia. She mentions that she cast with the director and Sandra. This hit me, because in her interview she says they told her what they wanted. There's not going to be anything else, because Sandra agreed to this crap ending.

Thank you for expressing this!
I agree.
There is no Episode 9. There is no secret, surprise good ending that will absolve Killing Eve from the devastating pain it’s caused us or somehow erase the finale.
You also bring up a very important point about Sandra Oh condoning the ending. Her answers in press interviews for Season 4 gives us lots of reasons to be concerned: we’re asking for a happy ending but she tells us we don’t really want it; Killing Eve, and Sandra herself, has never been concerned with a happy ending; it is what it is and it feels truthful, as well as right, for the characters; and that the ending is quite victorious.
Add all this to Laura’s claims that Eve’s “rebirth” angle for the finale came about from lots of in-depth discussions with Sandra, who is also an executive producer, and it all really is disturbing.
However, I also know that Sandra is contractually obligated to promote Killing Eve on its press run, and that she has to be careful about what she says just as much as how she says it. Looking at Sandra’s acting (along with Jodie’s) I sense a quiet rebellion in the choices they made. Precisely because they clearly have to toe the line instead of openly condemning their own show at this time. The way they acted Villaneve’s soft interactions and kisses speaks volumes.
And my impression is that Sandra absolutely did not act Eve’s final moments with anything approaching “glorious” or “victorious.” Eve’s scream doesn’t remotely resemble one of “rebirth”–it’s a soul destroying scream of unbearable pain, rage, and heartbreak because she’s devastated by the loss of her soulmate and lover Villanelle. I appreciate Sandra leaving literally no room for interpretation here.
But while I may give Sandra the benefit of the doubt, I absolutely refuse to give Laura Neal the same.
The entirety of Season 4 was a slap in the face for this fandom. It raised the bar on Killing Eve’s queerbaiting and introduced a whole new level of homophobia to the mainstream. It has now set a precedent for the harm that media can get away with going forward.
The finale cemented Laura Neal’s vision for Season 4 as a repugnant pray away the gay conversion camp allegory which culminated in Villanelle’s actual death (draped in yet more Christian imagery that Villanelle would scoff at) and Eve’s symbolic one–and yet this fandom is still interested in an Episode 9 pulling some sort of last minute miracle? That’s pathetic.
And the more I think about it, the more I’m becoming disappointed with this fandom.
For one thing, I don’t think this absurd denial is only a trauma response anymore–rather, it’s driven by the desperate and uncomfortable need to dismiss the pain because no one likes to feel that they’ve been made a fool. This fandom is looking to be rescued from being taken advantage of, which is totally understandable, but it’s looking in the wrong places.
More to the point, I’m disappointed that we aren’t rallying more. Precisely at this time.
We are living a moment of pop culture history. Right here, right now.
Villanelle’s death has resonated around the world. The atrocious finale has been condemned pretty much universally, by fans and critics alike. Mainstream outlets are fully in support of our fandom, and by extension our queer communities. This would have been unthinkable to other fandoms that have been queerbaited in the past. It’s definitely horrible we’re finding ourselves in such a fandom, yet we’re extraordinarily well positioned to turn this into a blessing in disguise.
The reason I feel this so urgently and continue to emphasize that we need to keep the pressure on is because we must seize the moment or risk losing it forever.
This is our window of opportunity, while Killing Eve’s finale is still fresh, to do far more than simply express our grief and disappointment; and no, I don’t mean demanding alternate endings or anything along those lines-I mean holding accountable those in power who created this homophobic content.
But instead of rallying and doing this, and concentrating our efforts on expressing our rightful grievances in an organized, sensible, passionate manner, this fandom has pivoted towards indulging a ridiculous, delusional, and nonsense idea that Killing Eve has a secret Episode 9 that will magically make everything right.
The cold, hard truth is that there is no Episode 9.
I don’t want an Episode 9 because I’d frankly find it more insulting, given this entire waste and disrespect of a season.
And even if there was an Episode 9, I would not accept it.
I don’t want the same egoistic abusers who queerbaited and traumatized this fandom with their homophobia to be giving me any sort of follow up. No thanks.
That this fandom is willing to indulge in this Episode 9 nonsense disappoints and troubles me. Because it indicates that if Episode 9 was somehow given to us, far too many of you would be content. Would be willing to overlook Season 4, even to allow Episode 9 to make amends for all the homophobia that came before.
This is wrong. I won’t stand for it.
I encourage all fans who are grieving to stop spreading this misinformation about Episode 9. It’s a waste of energy and effort that would be better spent confronting homophobia.
We can’t look for justice, comfort, and good feelings for Villaneve from the same source that savagely ripped it away from us.
