Maurermeister Paul Funk hatte das 1902 fertiggestellte Haus im Gründerzeitstil mit starken Anklängen an den Jugendstil mit den Portraits der Burenführer wie Paulus Kruger versehen und gleichzeitig den „fluchwürdigen Goldhunger“ des britischen Kolonialministers Chamberlain mit einem Goldsack auf dem Kopf als Büste angebracht. Deshalb Burenhaus. Die Burenrepubliken in Südafrika kämpften 1899-1902 gegen Großbritannien um ihre Unabhängigkeit. Nach dem Burenkrieg 1899-1902 verloren die Buren (Nachkommen niederländischer Einwanderer) ihre Selbstständigkeit und wurden in das britische Südafrika eingegliedert. Für die schwarzafrikanische Bevölkerungsmehrheit, ebenfalls von dem blutigen Konflikt betroffen, brachte dies allerdings kaum Veränderungen mit sich. Vorher wie nachher herrschten Rassismus und ausbeuterischer Kolonialismus. In Deutschland war der Burenkrieg ein ganz großes Thema. Die fast ungeteilten Sympathien gehörten den Buren um den Präsidenten Paulus Kruger. Hier erhielt er den verniedlichenden Kosenamen „Ohm“ und aus Kruger wurde ein Krüger. Die Buren waren die ideologischen und politischen Begründer der südafrikanischen Apartheid. Rassismus war damals mehrheitsfähig in Deutschland. Rechte politische Kräfte unterstützten das Burentum. Die Nazis verherrlichten vor allem Kruger. I think it's never late to talk about mental health. I could not post it on world's mental health day. I would like to take this opportunity to say few things about mental health, how hiking improves it when done alone and maybe try to pursue to go on for a hike soon. In spite of constant work load I am under, I am glad to have taken a day off last weekend to visit a place that I have visited with all my dear friends almost two years ago. It felt so good to be out in the wilderness. Besides, the bliss and calmness, I find being outdoors alone gives this unexplainable sense of reassurance, additional dose of self-esteem and confidence in the world as it's falling apart little by little. Also, it feels always good to connect with the people on the way. You may not receive the greetings back everytime as everyone is hustling to keep up with the world running so fast. (But don't let this hold you back. My mom always says "what you show is what you receive" and I totally believe in it). Anyways, if and when you slow down and take some time off (be outdoors), every person you come across will be as nice as they can be. Always remember that a simple hello and smile goes long way.
