Feeling really proud of myself right now because I came up with ANOTHER awesome companion hack out of sheer stubborn will.
You DO NOT NEED Amity to do the companion meditate animation at the shrines.
You do not even need Amity to get CREDIT FOR THE GALACTIC SEASONS WEEKLY! We’re talking about the weekly that specifically says you need Amity. But YOU DO NOT NEED AMITY!! (Nothing against Amity, he’s a cool guy, don’t hate on him.)
Here we go!
1. Do the usual process and go to a shrine. Get Amity out and run around until the popup meditate ability button activates.
2. STAY in the radius of the popup meditate ability button.
3. That’s it, now you can switch companions, and you won’t lose the ability.
Note: This isn’t even hard to pull off. I stress tested it, and there’s no careful exact steps to worry about. You can summon someone else while Amity is still there OR you can dismiss Amity and then summon someone else. Etc. Etc.
Bonus: I tried it on a giant droid comp that can’t sit, and they were at least able to get the white glow animation.
Two idiot spy fiancés standing FOUR feet apart in a hot tub because guess what, you can hack the follow algorithm into letting you stand a teeeeeeny bit closer when you turn off run (via the / key on the numpad)
(Coryphefish vs the Swtor follow algorithm round 3)
So one of my favorite things to do is find ways to innovate and improvise dancing, especially with certain companions, but sometimes I’ll watch people just turn on an emote and chill, and it makes me wish companions could do that too.
The close-enough solution I came up with involves the starslide dance emote. If you line it up juuuuust right, you can sort of involve your companion in your dancing AND not have to micromanage every step.
Face your companion.
Inch as close as possible. (turn off run and sprint)
Turn to the RIGHT. (90 degrees, left shoulder pointing their way)
Assuming you have the emote unlocked, type /starslide
Message me and I’ll send you some. It’ll be free unless too many people come clamoring and then I’ll work out some token number of materials to trade.
And hey while I’m at it, let’s inject some questionable influence into the @spy-battle tournament. While you’re all covertly making your Therons cooler spies, go vote for him! His lead is slowly shrinking in the lastest round.
(I’m ASLO offering Fractured Alliance care packages if you’re romancing him and haven’t finished that arc yet. Message me for details!)
How to do a FAIRYTALE BALLROOM WALTZ with your fave SWTOR companion!
Starts off choppy and experimental so you can follow along right away. Then the cool stuff happens.
(WARNING! There’s a part where the entire room spins for 8 seconds.)
I’ve been playing this game for ten years, and the companion dance feature hasn’t upgraded the entire time. So I upgraded my skills instead. Follow along with my Sith Inquisitor and his love.
(That’s an actual term of endearment used in KotET, and I am feeling a normal amount of feels.)
THE BASICS:
Turn off run via the / key.
Walk backward.
Add some circular motion. (Hold the camera still for spins)
Add some side to side motion.
The follow algorithm will be trying to “leave room for jesus.”
What YOU will be trying to do is outsmart it!
If your dance partner is too far away or so close that you’re clipping through each other, my go-to is to suddenly change gears and start circling in the opposite direction.
Be patient! It’s going to take a lot of time and muscle memory to find your personal groove.
(Coryphefish vs swtor’s follow algorithm round two!)
So normally the follow algorithm will only let you get so close to your companion before they start to move away.
You can fix that a little by turning off run and sprint.
You can fix that a little MORE by starting the companion dance and then inching slightly closer and closer while you dance.
You’ll have to get accustomed to it because moving too close will still trigger the algorithm. But refreshing companion dance will keep the closeness which I was really pleased to see.
BONUS: Another thing you can do which is really hard to show in still images is run and jump and improvise your own dance while the companion dance animation is going. This is really fun and also my favorite original way to swtor-dance aside from the ballroom waltz.
YES! Dark red and black dye module to the rescue! I vastly prefer the look of the original Life Day Officer Jacket from the concept art, and I'm SO glad that I found a way to get it!
(The shiny blue is still cool looking, and I think it's awesome that they're essentially giving us a free shiny dye effect.)
I made this lookbook as an easy reference for outfits in my personal collection that look especially noteworthy with Dark Green and Deep Red dye.
Why is today Life Day Eve? Because I always celebrate Life Day when my SWTOR overlords tell me to.
Why add green? Cultural context makes it easy visual shorthand for even secular winter holidays like Life Day.
Why is Theron Shan doing all the modeling? Because I said so!
Anyway, that first outfit is drawn from so many different sets that I didn't even use the same one twice. And the second one is the Life Day robes themselves. Look how festive they are! Here's the rest of the collection...
Spiffy jackets: Theron, Secret Agent, Carth, Rogue, Calo, Militant
Force Users: Messenger, Visas Marr, Jedi Knight Revan
The fastest way to find more info on an outfit is to first use my keywords to look up the full name in your SWTOR collections menu and then search the internet for how to get it. I'm happy to help in the comments if you get stuck or can't spare the bandwidth to search.
