Text in my Type Specimen Book
I will be using the text given to us in canvas "W4 ATQ 1", What is Typography?
What is typography? Come right down to it, it is simply the arrangement of twenty-six little abstract squiggles in such a way that it conveys an idea from one person-the author-to another person-the reader. The assumption is that everybody knows what sounds the squiggles represent; to make sure of that, we hammer it into the heads of our young as soon as they can absorb it. Of course, this definition, while basic, is an oversimplification. Typography is that, but it is much more, too. It involves the ease with which we recognize the letters of the alphabet, their grouping into words and lines and masses-questions of simple legibility. It involves the proper interpretation of the message to facilitate the visual communication between author and reader. It involves the selection of the appropriate types for specific purposes-the nature of the message. the kind of reader, the printing processes and the paper employed. And finally, it involves aesthetics, for typography which appeals to the eye will embody the same set of principles of design that goes into any work of art.
Then translated in to Māori
He aha te typography? Ko te tikanga, ko tenei whakamaramatanga, ahakoa he mea taketake, he whakamaarama. Ko te momotuhi, engari he nui noa atu.

I love when my son makes connections. Te Karere is on tv rn and they were doing a story about something happening in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton) and their background picture as they talked about it was of the Fairfield bridge across the Waikato river.
Next thing I know he has my coffee table book about the Waikato region and he's flipping through pages until he can find the pictures of the city and all the bridges including that one, because he recognised it.

Te Karere's Oriini Kaipara 'shocked' and 'taken aback' after discovering portrait painted without her consent for sale
Here is an article I found on one news the other night about an artist who painted a portrait of a Maori women without consent. Where the face itself wasn’t completely recognisable, but the moko was. Moko’s tell a story and are unique to ones self through the design and meaning
Mrs Payne- Artist who was selling the painting (British immigrant that has been living in NZ since 2017)
Friends posted in support of the broadcaster, calling it "misappropriation" disrespectful and an attempt to sell "mana" without consent.
“but selling MY moko for profit and for YOUR self-gain is damn disrespectful to say the very least,"
"I was getting sold, an image of me was being sold, and that I was going for a special rate. I think that the wording, unfortunately, really irked me."
Art historian Dr Rangihiroa Panoho said it was tiring that these issues types of issues continued to occur over decades.
"We're talking about a vulnerable indigenous culture that has a whole history of colonialism, of imperial activity in this part of the world and we've endured a lot and I guess art is like a final frontier."
"This has always been the problem with modernism and artists that work outside of those communities. They have totally different values, individual orientated, often money, and the sale of the motif through their artwork is the primary objective and in that particular case it makes it really distasteful for the Māori community because this is not about money."

Radio New Zealand Int. 1310 21 Feb 2022
7390Khz 1259 21 FEB 2022 - RNZ PACIFIC (NEW ZEALAND) in ENGLISH from RANGITAIKI. SINPO = 55333. English, s/on w/bellbird int. until pips and news @1300z anchored by Koroi Hawkins. The Southern Cross cable that connects Tonga to the outside world that was damaged last month during the volcanic eruption and tsunami is expected to be back in action today. Tonga Cable Limited chief executive Samuiela Fonua said it will be ready later today but needs time for tests from the repair ship. Tonga's prime minister has annouced that Covid-19 lockdown restrictions in the Kingdom will ease for seven days from Monday. But the 6pm to 6am curfew lockdown remains. Funerals and weddings are allowed and will still have the same number of people able to attend the events, with 10 inside and 20 outside. Seven children under 18 died in Fiji during the third wave of Covid19. Most were too young to be vaccinated. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the Omicron outbreak is likely to peak in three to six weeks. At that point, she says, the country will move down the traffic light settings, easing off gathering limits. Mandates are likely to remain for some areas - particularly sections of the healthcare workforce - but there will be a narrowing of where they are required, she says. Ardern says she has a final message for those occupying the lawns of Parliament: "Everyone is over Covid. No one wants to live with rules or restrictions, but had we not been willing to work together to protect one another then we would have all been worse off as individuals, including losing people we love. That hasn't happened here for the most part and that is a fact worth celebrating, rather than protesting". Ardern has maintained there will be no engagement with the protesters until disruptive and threatening behaviour is brought to an end. Māori news programme Te Karere celebrates its 40th anniversary on Monday. What started out as a four-minute news segment on TVNZ has grown into an indelible part of New Zealand broadcasting, at the vanguard of a reo Māori renaissance. There has been widespread condemnation of convicted rapist and Fiji rugby sevens star Amenoni Nasilasila's inclusion at a local tournament last weekend. He was jailed for eight years in 2019 for raping a 24-year-old woman at Olosara, Sigatoka on 22 December, 2018. Sports. @1308z "Pacific Waves" anchored by Koroi Hawkins. Backyard fence antenna, Etón e1XM. 100kW, beamAz 35°, hearing 240°. Received at Plymouth, United States, 12912KM from transmitter at Rangitaiki. Local time: 0659.
