like i fully Get that among communities and your peers, working to live in a more environmentally connected way IS valuable! in those cases its definitely an oversimplification and also cynical to rattle off statistics about how individuals cannot actually meaningfully contribute to reduction in carbon emissions specifically but like

just because thats true doesnt mean corporations or even businesses in general can be let off the hook lol letting this kind of attitude normalize is dangerous

#i still remember a survey i did on mturk by what i assume was a wellmeaning college student #talking about peoples willingness to buy more environmentally friendly clothing #and their ONLY EXAMPLE OF THIS #was organic cotton #like they were doing a fullblown research project on this shit and #they were seriously conflating organic with a broad environmental benefit #which is just not even close to being true?#especially with cotton afaik like gmo cotton actually...requires less pest control #because the pest control is just. part of it. its pest resistant #so what do you think is better for the environment lmao #an inherently resistant plant OR blasting your crop with loads of pesticide and nuking any insects out of existence #makes me bonkers in fuckign yonkers but like. in a derogatory way
