i was talking to one of my friends the other day and she was talking about “when i was in art school” which doesn’t seem that weird expect I NEVER WENT TO ART SCHOOL… or even finished highschool??? like the closest thing to a fine arts education i ever received was attending and teaching FAR too many community center poetry classes and and an occasional takelessons sort of painting class thing. but this girl knew me for over a year and thought i went to art school.
that’s so goddamn funny
theres proof that you don’t need a former education to be good at something whether it’s art or according to her “general demeanor”

following watching the videos on deaf poet society and music in sign language, it has made me want to look more deeply into the pace, tone and structure of the flow of sign language and how it it conveyed and how that might differ to spoken english.
in order to do this, i need to look into how grammar and pace works in sign language and learn about it so i can make informed decision choices. so looking at this article i have learned:
sign language is not conveyed word-to-word
the word order is different: time-topic-comment-referent : tomorrow-vacation-go-i
meaning cannot be conveyed in tone of voice, so facial expressions and body movement is used. your face should show facial expression and the emphasis you put into hand movements to convey how strongly. drag out your sign and facial expression to put emphasis onto it. this will slow down the pace of the sign to show how much emphasis is on the meaning.
small words like : and, the, or dont exist. these can be shown from switching hand to hand and twisting your body leading from sign to sign.
