Notes: A (late, very late, i’m so sorry) birthday fic for @spacepiratepines! Happy belated birthday, dear! They wanted a nice, fluffy tadotoumaki fic, which I can hopefully deliver after all this time ;w;
And as always, I crammed it full of my trans hcs.

“More rain?!” Jinpachi glared out the window.
Jin chuckled, taking the bowl of mikan from the counter and moving it over to the kotatsu. “Why are you so surprised? The weather report said so.”
“AH! Is that snow! Why is this happening!”
Jin measured some tea into their cast iron kettle and poured the hot water over it. “Calm down, Toudou. It’s not like it’s the end of the world.”
The scowl on Jinpachi’s face morphed into a pout. “But we were going to go to Disney today!” They slunk over to the kotatsu and shoved their feet underneath the futon, accidentally jolting a snoozing Yuusuke. “I wanted to wear matching Mickey hats.”
Yuusuke blinked. “We were supposed to go out today, huh...” She said it to herself more than as an actual question.
But Jinpachi still took it upon themself to answer. “Yes! It was going to be fun. And we were all going to look cute! And I wanted to take a bunch of selfies.” They bent over, chin resting on the table and huffed.
Jin came into their small living room with a tray of three steaming cups, gingerly placing one down in front of Yuusuke and Jinpachi. He took a long sip. “To be honest, I’m kind of grateful it's cold today.” A mikan was half peeled in his hand. He offered the peeled section to Jinpachi.
Jinpachi looked betrayed.
Jin shrugged and continued. “I mean, sure I wanted to go out on our date, but...” He glanced at the low-energy Yuusuke and the agitated Toudou.“Maybe we needed a day in?” He popped a piece of the winter fruit in his mouth.
Yuusuke, ignoring her tea, had slumped down from her sitting position, stretching out under the futon. “Sounds nice.”
Jinpachi turned their look of betrayal onto Yuusuke, despite her eyes being closed. “You too, Maki-chan?”
One long limb snaked out from underneath the futon and waved at JInpachi. “Come lay down. It’s nice and warm.”
Pout slightly diminished, Jinpachi scooted around from their side of the kotatsu to where she was. “Shouldn’t be warm in here because of a stupid kotatsu. It’s already May,” they muttered. But still, they were happy enough to cuddle up under Maki’s arm.
Yuusuke cracked one eye open and looked at Jin. “Wanna join?”
Jin finished the mikan and his tea. “Let me clean up first and take off my binder. I’ll be back in a bit.”
“We’ll be asleep in a bit.” Jinpachi’s voice floated out from where they had buried themself into Yuusuke’s side.
Jinpachi and Yuusuke floated in and out of sleep for what felt like hours before they felt Jin come and join them. He gingerly sat behind where they were laying, back braced against their small couch, and shifted so the two of them were now resting against his chest. Jinpachi and Yuusuke both faceplanted onto Jin’s stomach and threw an arm around him.
Jin turned on the T.V., making sure the volume was low enough it wouldn’t disturb either of them, and half-focused on whatever variety show was playing.
The rain beat a steady rhythm against their apartment. Within minutes, he could tell Jinpachi and Yuusuke were fully asleep. Though trying to fight it, Jin yawned, lulled into relaxing even more with Jinpachi and Yuusuke’s comfortable weight on top of him.
'Going out is fun, but this is really the best,’ Jin thought before drifting off to sleep.

on that note i think imaizumi and naruko obv have canon basis but their dynamic is so overdone for me personally, i think theyre a lot more fun together with onoda in imanarusaka but also i don’t feel too passionate nowadays for that its cute but i care more about sansaka and then i think imasugi is really funny and of course that isn’t mutually exclusive like. i’m just having fun. but i don’t feel strongly about imanarusaka being platonic vs romantic so i just don’t care much personally for them romantically without onoda even more. i think it could be a lot of fun as crushes or w/e when theyre first getting to know each other but as time passes they date other people idk
also i realize saying i think theyre overdone but then still really loving toumaki which obviously is the most popular ship in all of fandom and also has that sort of “rival” dynamic is ironic , but honestly even though i love toumaki a lot i don’t really have much interest in reading fic about them because a lot of it is boring to me or flattens why they’re two of my favorite characters. tadomaki content because people who write it tend to more overtly care about the specific characters theyre writing i tend to appreciate more on average even though i like tadomaki and toumaki equally. and then i just think tadotou is such a funny dynamic honestly i’m more of a tadotoumaki fan than any of its parts on its own. so even if that includes the most popular ship i’m still cursed to rare pair skjfdgh

i think its so funny my approach to transformative fiction because my two biggest things i want to create that are essentially “fanfic” like . no fan is gonna want to read
yowamushi puroresu just because its so extremely niche and self indulgent and the cross section of people who enjoy/don’t mind enough to actually bother reading a webcomic about the niche cycling sports anime yowamushi pedal And the polyamorous rarepair in it tadotoumaki And so many trans hcs And on top of all of that that is very heavily set in a pro wrestling AU like . i’m gonna be real with you no one is reading that chiara
and then this new idea after watching my own private idaho is so funny because like absolutely a lot of people make ‘the author is dead these are my ideas because i could’ve made this piece of fiction better’ but with cult movies like that that just isn’t the way most fans are approaching it. so me being like ‘i am not a Fan of this per se i am a fan of the basic concepts in it and what it could be but also the actual movie is not very good and i am very critical of it while simultaneously very emotionally invested’ is not gonna really attract an audience skgjhskjdfghkjsdf

Title: A Merry Little Christmas (Or 3 Time Christmas Was Melancholy for Makishima and 1 Time It Wasn’t)
Series: Yowamushi Pedal
Characters: Makishima Yuusuke, Toudou Jinpachi, Tadokoro Jin, Kinjou Shingo, and a few others
Pairings: None (officially; can read some drabbles as tadomaki, tadotoumaki, and kintadomaki as well as hints of my other faves)
Notes: Obligatory Christmas fic! This is my first full year in the YWPD fandom and I’m still loving it. A little present for people who read my stuff even though I don’t update regularly. Thank you all for your support

1.
Yuusuke wasn’t fond of remembering Christmases in the past. Too much of feeling like a stranger in her own skin. Having to be something she’s not around family that cared too much about appearances and too little about the well being of their children.
When Ren was still around, things were better. If only because Ren tried to shield Yuusuke from prying eyes and snide comments from family members. But after Ren left, things got a little rougher, especially once Yuusuke realized just how much Ren shielded her from. She tried to be strong with her little sister still around, for whom she tried to buffer the worst of the family experiences, but Yuusuke didn’t find herself to be as tough as her older brother.
Christmases before joining the Souhoku cycling team were spent tuning out some of the noise and hiding herself and her sister away from the rest of it.

“Come on you two! Stop lagging behind!” Tadokorocchi yelled back at Kinjou and Yuusuke.
The two of them looked at one another and laughed, Kinjou shaking his head a bit, before they jogged to catch up to Tadokorocchi.
They were currently wandering around amidst heavy crowds of people eager to see the light display leading from Chiba Station to Chuo Park. Yuusuke looked around exhaling every so often so she could see her breath. She looked over at her friends, two people she never thought she’d be doing Christmas festivities with. But after a year of really getting to know them, they had become closer to her than imagined. She was really looking forward to becoming third years with them, especially given the suspicion that Kinjou would be chosen as Captain of the cycling club for next year.
Her sister had luckily managed to weasel her way out of the family get-togethers as well; she had left to go hang out with some friends a few hours before Yuusuke did and never came back. Yuusuke envied her confidence sometimes and wondered who she got it from; certainly not from Yuusuke.
The three of them huddled together, KInjou and Tadokoro nearly sandwiching Yuusuke between the two of them as they made their way through the display(despite her protests after the first time she nearly got swept away into the crowd they insisted on remaining close). All around them you could hear excited chattering and occasional oohs and aahs. It was pretty, she had to admit, though she would have preferred they went to Disney like she suggested.
(”You know I don’t have that kind of money, Makishima!”
“That’s why I said I’d pay for you and Kinjou both, Tadokorocchi!”
“Now, now you two...”)
Yuusuke reached out and pinched small bits of Kinjou and Tadokorocchi’s coats in both hands, hoping they wouldn’t notice. She just wanted to do something for them, to show them how important they are to her. Money really was no issue as she kept reminding them. She sighed.
She just wanted to do something for them before she left....Not that they knew anything about this of course. There was no way she was going to tell them that she planned to study abroad soon after the Interhigh next year of all places. That she’d been prepping with teachers back at Souhoku and professors at the college she planned on going to in London.
Would they be mad? Hurt? Betrayed? Would they forget about her? Was she that replaceable? Would the juniors in the club even care that she was gone?
“Oi, Maki, you even payin’ attention?” Tadokorocchi’s voice seemed even louder than the noise of the crowd.
“I’m right next to you, Tadokorocchi, you don’t have to burst my ear drums.” Makishima lifted a hand to her ear and grimaced.
Tadokorocchi laughed. “Whatever. C’mon! Me and Kinjou wanna go check out that display over there!” He had already started bulldozing his way towards it, using his impressive size to part the crowd.
Kinjou looked down at Yuusuke and smiled, the lights around them glinting off of his glasses. “Shall we chase after him again, Makishima?” He held out a hand.
Yuusuke smiled, feeling her face get hotter. “Like we always do, Kinjou.” She grasped his hand in hers.
Things wouldn’t stay this way for long, but she just wanted to focus on the now.
3.
Yuusuke thought she would be prepared for winters in England but she was terribly wrong. While she was no stranger to snow and cold, she wasn’t also expecting it to be so wet at the same time. While it didn’t rain as often in December as it did in other parts of the year, the rain that did happen caused the snow on the ground to slush and freeze and turn into ice. She thought she had broken her tail bone the last time she slipped and fell on the sidewalk.
Laying on her bed and huddled by the window, she gave a dry laugh. It had already been over a year since she arrived and had already spent one winter in England. Yuusuke thought she’d get used to it by now.
Her first Christmas in England was...sad to say the least. After she had graduated early and left for London, her friends back in Japan still had to go through the last bits of school for that year. Tadokorocchi and Kinjou were graduating and had to start gearing up for finals that following spring. Needless to say between the cycling club and that, she didn’t get to say much to them last Christmas.
This Christmas was a little better. She had woken up to messages from Tadokorocchi, Kinjou, Sakamichi, and a few other of the Souhoku cycling members, Christmas having already begun in Japan at that time. She received at least a dozen messages from Jinpachi, excitedly telling her about things that they got for Christmas and how Hakogaku next year was going to destroy Souhoku. Yuusuke thought that her messages seemed a little sad, but it might have just been her imagination.
A few people with the money to do so sent her gifts, but it wasn’t the same. Thinking back to her last Christmas made her crave being close to her friends again. Made her wonder how things would have gone if she had stayed in Japan.
Yuusuke sighed, flopping down onto her bed, grabbing the stuffed bear Tadokorocchi had sent her. She had Ren and his girlfriend to spend time with at least. She was extremely thankful to her brother for letting her stay with him. Yuusuke would have been lost with loneliness otherwise.
Next year. She promised herself. Next year I’ll go back for Christmas.

Next year turned into “Next Year” which turned into “Next Year” which turned into...
Well.
She tried to stay in contact as best as she could, but she was bad about that at the best of times. Working night and day on show after show, piece after piece got so time consuming, she barely remembered to check her personal email most days.
But finally “Next Year” had come. Yuusuke felt herself tearing up as she stepped out of the terminal, people bustling about all around her. She had arrived a few days before Christmas to give herself some extra time to see everyone and do some things before she had to leave for New Years. She was amazed she managed to get this amount of time off.
“Oi! Yuusuke!”
“Maki-chan!! Over here!!”
Yuusuke’s heart fluttered. She looked over towards the voices couldn’t help the grin that broke out on her face.
There, standing near a bench were two people she had been longing to see for a while. Tadokorocchi was wearing a santa hat and had grown out his beard a little more since the last time Yuusuke saw a photo of him. Jinpachi’s hair had grown out to a little past shoulder length and they were going without the headband (for now).
She broke out in a run, dragging her poor wheeled bag behind her, and slammed into the two of them. Yuusuke fought desperately to keep the tears at bay; people were already staring and she didn’t want to create more of a scene.
“Maki-chan, are you crying?!”
Oh what the hell.
Yuusuke nodded, burying her face mostly in Tadokorocchi’s side as he and Jinpachi each put a hand on her back and returned the embrace. She could already tell this Christmas was going to be the best yet.

i like thinking about maki dating tadokoro and toudou but tado and tou dont have a lot of affection for each other ?? like they get along but its more of a ‘both of them in love w/ maki’ as opposed to ‘all three of them in love w/ each other’
i really like thinking about tadokoro and toudou kind of slowly falling in love with each other ?? all three of them going on dates and at first, its clear that the focus is on maki but after a while maki starts thinking that they’re like ?? almost flirting with each other ?? and sometimes maki will be on a date with tadokoro and he’ll see something and say ‘toudou would like that’ (and vice versa)
and tadokoro and toudou learning about each other, like the kinds of foods they prefer and what their favorite color is and what music they like and what kinds of affection are ok and which ones are not
