you rarely hear him howl alone. if the whole group starts up a howl, you might hear his softer voice layered between seokmin and seungcheol's deeper tones, but otherwise, he gets away with what would probably be classified as a whine most of the time
he just doesn't the voice for a good howl and that's okay!!
he has an emotional support twig that he likes to carry around in his mouth when he's out. when he's walking around as a human, he wields it upright with a clenched hand for...no reason at all, really
and you thought it was silly, but eventually the twig does break and he's sad enough about it that you take the broken pieces and set out to find a replacement
it takes you nearly two days to find the perfect match
and when you bring it home to surprise him, he's already moved on to some plastic toy he picked up at the street market with chan
once he realizes what you did for him, he'd play up his joy and appreciation, but after some time, you tell him it's fine. the plastic toy wins
people ask less questions lol the stick lives on, though. it's now framed in your living room
he gets lazy to transform back to a human sometimes and that's mostly because he doesn't feel like finding clothes. do you know how much energy it takes to get dressed and looking normal again??
he wishes the "how would a dog wear pants" debate would get resolved so that he can get pants that will stretch into his wolf transformation
i feel like his wolf transformation is small. sleek but definitely on the smaller side, especially compared to the others. he likes snuggling into other people's sides when they do a dog-pile nap, and he slots himself perfectly between their arms
he's just someone made to be held!!
all of your brushes now have so much hair, i am so sorry
but he makes up for it by having his head in your lap always. he strikes me as a very physical person, the kind to touch you absently. so if it's not his head in your lap or a hand in yours, it's his tail curled around your back, and he pretends that it has a mind of its own when it slips under your shirt and settles at the base of your spine
that's why, even though he's not a jealous lover, his smell is on you most of the time. it works in his favor because he forgets to mark you sometimes, but his lingering presence deters most of the ones looking for easy targets

when he grew out his hair, you kept sending edited pictures of him as a victorian era child and he's SO tired of it. he (lovingly) rolls his eyes and flicks your forehead when you show him yet another oliver twist "please sir..." meme with his face plastered over it
he knows your accomplice is joshua. the candid photos are a dead giveaway, though he doesn't go much further than baring his fangs at the two of you—maybe hissing when you're openly laughing, but he's too lazy to do much else. he doesn't care about it
despite his athleticism, he really likes pretending that he has a fragile disposition. I'm talking twirling parasols at high noon, putting his hand dramatically on his forehead during "dizzy spells" (read: when seungcheol makes him do work), highlighting his supernatural pallor during the winter
but kick him a stray ball and he perks up immediately, tossing the parasol aside to kick some ass
drinks blood out of a reusable juice box and thinks it's the best invention ever. he even has a little bendy straw that he insists on using because, as he argues, immortality is about discovering the small joys in life
which you can't argue with, but can he please stop sucking on that straw when he knows that it's empty—the sound is driving you crazy, especially when he hovers over your shoulder
he stops. does it once more for good measure. and promptly runs away when you chase him with a pillow
don't let his silliness distract you from the fact that this man is incredibly calculating. he's seen empires rise and fall...though often from a distance and heard secondhand. but he's seen humanity progress, and the human psyche has always interested him
not the psychology or science of it. the what ifs just fascinate him, which is why he often likes to stir up things to see how they play out
you're convinced that he was once a strategic advisor to someone important. he neither confirms nor denies, but once, when you read to him a historical discovery about some old warlord, he scoffed at how the events were described
he doesn't bite you, but he does like to nip at you. just your fingers when you feed him things or your tummy when he lays his head in your lap
you ask him about it once, fresh off another phase of vampire romance novels, and he just tells you that it's too messy
that's one reason, but the second reason that he never tells you...it's that he's scared. he acts extra silly and ridiculous around you, but there's always an underlying fear of hurting you at any point
he doesn't look like much, but he's stronger, he's faster, he's not human. and the idea of you in his lap, faint and dizzy as your heartbeat stutters beneath his fingers, doesn't appeal to him

be glad that vampires have adapted over the centuries because seokmin and sunshine are inseparable. you can't imagine what it'd be like for him to hide away during the day like previous generations did
he has patience in spades, though his friends like to point out that it wasn't always like that. when he was turned, the newly acquired supernatural powers made him hot-headed—the quick to anger, slow to calm kind of guy—and it took time for him to get that aggression out of his system
there's just something about being near invincible that made him test the limits, and apparently it's pretty common for new vampires because his more experienced friends helped clean up his messes without complaint.
he outgrew it. like seungcheol always says, it always takes time or—in seokmin's case—a close call. vampires aren't invincible...just almost.
anyway, now he's incredibly patient and happy-go-lucky. sure, he can be rammed by a truck and walk off fine, but there's a thin layer of caution that follows every action, especially when it comes to how fragile humans are. he found out the hard way that he needs to hold back with high-fives
still quick to anger sometimes, but much quicker to cool
"does it ever get tiring?" you ask him once, waving your hand at the darkening sky. "this immortality thing?"
he stares down at his ice cream, smile sadder than you've ever seen it. his gaze is distant, and you wonder if you want to know what thoughts lie behind it.
"sometimes," he admits, barely a breath. "that's why you need to find the little joys in life. find little ways to enjoy every day."
and no wonder he's dead set on living life to the fullest and indulging himself. he knows better than anyone that if you let life turn monotonous, the decades fly by faster than you can blink...and not in a good way
during the day time, he dresses super cute! with his oversized sweaters with sleeves that cover his hands, his big floppy hats, his giant shorts. sunshine personified, you feel like
but night time, he's like a completely different person. fitted trousers and a tight button-up with sleeves rolled up his forearms and his hair slicked back anyone stages have a chokehold on me
"I thought you were a vampire, not an incubus," you blurt out the first time you see the shift. that makes him double over laughing, ears bright red but pleased with your reaction
you've only seen him bare his fangs once, a quick peek before you're pushed behind him as he snarls at the opponent blocking the path
that was when it really hit you. oh. having a vampire boyfriend is a dangerous thing. you close your eyes and block out the sounds of superhumans fighting, knowing that if you fully dive into the world of monsters, you won't come out the same

it seems like he's a little shit in every supernatural-verse because, like his werewolf self, he loves testing the boundaries of his secret as a vampire, too
while junhui's testing is more in conversation, joshua straight up just. goes as a vampire every year for halloween. when you ask him to please dress as something else, he asks you if he doesn't look good because he'll actually consider a different costume if you think that
and as much as you want to lie, you can't deny that he suits the stereotypical count dracula get up: long black cape with the stiff pointed collar, medieval white blouse with frilled accents, velvet button vest, fake (FAKE!! you had to confirm) blood in the corner of his mouth, and all
(maybe you just like the way he looks with his hair slicked back)
so you settle for something actually truthful and say that jeonghan looks better as count dracula, and joshua rolls his eyes, saying that jeonghan just has a drowned victorian orphan vibe
when people ask him where he got the cool fangs from, he runs his tongue over his teeth and says that he has a friend heavily invested in cosplay
enough about that, though. i think his competitive nature and natural athleticism make him a frightening trainer. not as scary as leader line, of course, but the newer vampires are definitely hesitant to approach him
and if he approaches them with a friendly challenge, they're not sure if they'll come out of it in one piece, even if he's giving them an easy smile
he's actually not that mean :( he doesn't know where the reputation came from, but he just wants to be nice to the newbies
what finally convinces everyone of his soft side is having you around. he darts to you, and everyone expects you to flinch from his superhuman speed, but you only squint your eyes from the dust kicked up. he screeches to a halt right in front of you and greets you so gently
oh. well, if joshua is capable of treating a human this way...
eventually the rumors die out, but he kind of liked the immunity it gave him (and you by default), so he makes sure that everyone knows how strong he is once in a while
it's mostly for your safety. no one wants to face joshua's wrath if you were to get hurt
his self-restraint in general is incredible, though. you thought it was a myth that vampires get feral around blood because he seems so calm whenever you get a paper cut
until you get scratched by a branch near the newer vampires. "aw man," you say, seeing a drop of blood squeeze out of the thin cut
it all happens so fast. just a screech, a rush of wind, and a heavy thud. by the time you blink, junhui has an arm in front of you, and you see joshua on the floor, keeping two vampires down as they writhe
"fucking try it," he snarls into their faces

he's mellowed out a lot and is honestly embarrassed that he has to bear evidence of the history. he'll avoid the topic and sulk a little if you ask. honestly, he would make up lies about them if he could get away with it
unfortunately, the rest of the members are there to call out his bullshit
"yeah, this one? got it trying to fight a full grown bear when i was a kid." he points to the scar, puffing out his chest
"he's lying, y/n. that's from seungcheol cuz joshua thought he could get away with sneaking out past curfew."
something is thrown in that general direction. "can you shut up and leave, jeonghan."
one habit he's retained from his younger days? testing the limits of his secret. how many times has he transformed in front of people who are likely to forget or question their memories the next day? more than he should, probably
he'd stare at them blankly as they recall something about him and a wolf. and all he'll say is, "wow, must've been a wild dream."
he only stopped after someone pulled out their phone to record as evidence and he ran away...but then he was back to his shenanigans a few weeks later
speaking of cameras, he loves making silly faces at yours, and all of your friends wonder where tf you get these random wolf memes from
i just feel like he's Annoying
if you try to physically move him from a spot, he'll switch forms back and forth so that you won't be able to easily get a grip, and when you sigh and give up, he grins at you with the most triumphant expression
his athleticism applies here — he can run for days. probably hops around the others and offers running as punishments for their games because it doesn't bother him
when someone tells him to run an errand, though, suddenly he's the most tired person on the planet
he's protective of those around him, but when it comes to you, there's a particular layer of ferocity
again, no one knows what his boundaries are. there's nothing as frightening as having someone so unpredictable be your enemy. you know he wants to rip you apart, but you just don't know how or when he'll do it
as long as people stay on his good side, they'll be fine

i know including dino's danceology is such a cop-out, but he's so passionate about it that i feel like i have to include it. so his main content is a self-choreographed dance video that he uploads once a month
but it's also kind of a vlog channel where he challenges himself to learn from different dancers! he visits various studios and signs up for whatever class sounds interesting to him. to make it fun, he'll ask the person behind the desk to choose a random number
regardless of his familiarity, he gives his all and has so much fun doing it. occasionally, he'll come up to a classmate and have a quick chat with them about what got them into dance. viewers love hearing the stories
one person got into dance to get them out of the house. another is doing it because it was their best friend's dying wish. another has kids who are taking a dance class in the same building at the same time. someone else wants to impress their partner at their wedding next year. he just loves knowing that art can bring so many people together, regardless of the reasons
eventually, his channel does get popular. cute guy, infectious energy, fiery passion? it's just a recipe for success. unfortunately, this means that he does get recognized more often, and he likes the attention, but it does make classes harder for him
too many eyes on him, even if he's trying to stand in the back and hide his face with his hat pulled low. people edge away from him, not wanting to be compared to the talented dancer, intentional or otherwise
and the worst part of it is that, though people have been supportive about his dancing journey, he feels like he's That Guy now. the one who can be (and needs to be) perfect at whatever he does no matter what. he feels like he doesn't have the space or grace to fail in front of everyone anymore
so he announces a break on his channel and returns to his roots. it takes a while to find you because you've lost touch over the years, but when your friend says that you're at the childhood dance studio, he's elated. even after all these years, you're still there
only to find out that you're not there to dance...you work behind the scenes now, cleaning up the studios between classes because you've lost your passion for the art
he can't believe his ears when you tell him. you? you of all people? you were one of his best partners! you were amazing! a gem in the making!
"yeah, well." you give a bitter laugh, putting the mops back in the closet. "even glass shines under the light."
but your reasons run deeper than that. you want to get back into it — why else would you work part-time here, trying to surround yourself with people who have motivation to spare?
he decides that he's not going to trouble you with his own problems. instead, he's going to take your hand and jump headfirst into the dance world again
he doesn't start slow. the first place he takes you is a breaking competition/jam in the next town. it's noisy, it's packed, and honestly — it's perfect because everyone's losing their minds over the participants' threads and footwork
"you're lucky i didn't secretly sign you up!" he yells into your ear, one hand hovering around the small of your back and the other holding a plastic cup. the contents threaten to spill as you shoulder through the crowd for a better look
it's almost a complete 180 when, two days later, you're in the rickety chairs of your elementary school auditorium, watching kids stumble through a ballet recital. you lean over to snicker to chan, "remember when we got the tree parts?"
the parent next to you, phone up to record their baby, glares at the two of you until you shrink in your seats
his break was supposed to be two weeks long, but he also got a part-time job at your old dance studio and the weeks stretch by before he knows it. it's fun, though. catching up after all this time, turning on the music and being silly when you're supposed to be wiping down floors, racing to the convenience store to see who buys their favorite ice cream first
it's all — fine. until you're at some tango showcase and one of the audience members recognizes chan. honestly, he's surprised he's gone this far without being recognized (as conceited as that sounds). the stranger asks him if he's planning to go back to youtube at all, and you look at him, wide eyed, because he's never mentioned a channel this entire time? much less one that has so many subscribers that people are approaching him in public?
"i don't know," he laughs awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck. "i've been busy."
but now that the topic has been brought up, the tables have turned. you binge a ton of his videos, often in front of him, and he's cringing at some of his early ones. back when he was too excited and didn't know how to edit. "it's character development!" you're yelling at him as you run away, phone on max volume
you're the one trying to get him to dance more, and it becomes this weird dynamic of pushing each other to get back into dancing and realizing that hey. that energy was inside me all along — i just forgot how to get it out without having someone here
because it's definitely possible to hone your craft by yourself, but finding yourself in community makes it so much more fun
"let's start off slow," you tell him. so he's just doing short dance challenges with you and posting them, which surprises viewers because
1) he's back after nearly three months of no communication
2) he's posting a lot and sporadically, unlike his previous strict schedule
3) WHO IS THIS GUEST??
you're introduced as his friend, but the way he laughs with you at the end of takes, hand clinging onto yours after you high five, has them thinking it's...something. for now, they'll drop eye emojis in the chat and appreciate that their dancing king is back

he tries not to act like the youngest, but he's totally the pack's baby and it shows when he's equally bullied and loved
when he was a pup, they just let him do whatever with the occasional nip here and there to keep him in line. he whined and rolled around, obviously, but was back to his shenanigans soon enough
loved following the older members and learning from them, though he was eager to jump in and try for himself
one of his favorite games was to chase and wrestle with everyone's tails, and jeonghan never lets him live it down
now that he's bigger and older, he pretends to be the brooding type, but it's so easy to make him break that facade by starting a play fight because he loses himself in it. next thing he knows, he's covered in dirt
he has a dark coat, probably a shade darker than seokmin's, but unlike seokmin's, it's still soft because of his baby years. it works in his favor because you love burying your face in it and you let him lay in your lap
i feel like he's a strong runner and has good endurance. he's not bulky like seungcheol or mingyu, not quite lean like wonwoo. his legs, though, rival seungcheol's — send him if you need something delivered
he still transforms in his sleep sometimes, and after the third time it happened, you decided to get a bigger bed because you're tired of having to fight him for the space. every time he woke up and saw you on the couch, he was so apologetic about it
(this is why he could never go on overnight trips with people, and it made him disappointed so seungcheol organized one eventually. had to convince the renters that they had a lot of dogs that came late and left early)
whenever he smells you coming, he brightens so instantly. the boys roll their eyes, unable to tamper down their endeared smiles. he latches onto you instantly, a hand on the small of your back or holding your hand
if he's transformed, his tail starts thumping against the ground and he literally doesn't realize he's doing it until someone tells him to shut up
referencing my long distance mate reaction, he'd love wearing your things all the time because it's so comforting to feel like you're around him, even when you're not
over time, he'll get used to you being gone, but in the beginning, he's definitely antsy, like "why can't we hang out all the time?"

some of the members dislike transforming, and i'd say that wonwoo is one of them. though dislike is a strong word — he's just too lazy to transform
cleaning up after himself is such a chore. maybe he'd like it better if he didn't have to vacuum his living room all the time?? but for now, he's wondering if it'd be easier to just rip up all the carpet and install wood flooring everywhere
his wolf form is lean, which mirrors his human form, but he can be a little clumsy sometimes because he stays in his human form so often. he'd rather not think about the amount of times he's brushed against a tree and yelped in surprise
despite his complaints, though, one of the quickest ways to clear his head is to go on a run after midnight. he's always favored the night, when the world is asleep and he's alone with his thoughts. it's literally so freeing to run full speed through the nearest patch of woods and feel plants and wind whip against him
but that means he sleeps in a lot lmfao don't interrupt his afternoon naps because he won't have the energy to be anything other than straight faced and tired
omf and his naps. he loves having you nearby, maybe ask to rest his head in your lap if you don't mind, and this is one of the few times he'll prefer being in wolf form because the post-nap stretch feels so good. you think his pre-sleep ritual is so cute — he'll go in a circle and pat down the mattress before curling himself up, and for a massive creature, he manages to make himself look so small
he has the biggest bed of all the boys lmfao he likes rolling around when it's just him, but if you're there, he's careful to stay in human form. one time, he forgot you were over and transformed in the middle of the night. knocked you straight off the bed
the thing about wonwoo is that he hates sharing, not even snacks with his members (this is a fact), so when it comes to you? literally always hovering over your shoulder, though he'd like to have a hand on you at all times if he could
has some of the strongest protective habits of the group, and it borders on possessive, but none of the boys say anything about it. even seungcheol's been nipped at once over a minor thing, which did Not fly at all
wonwoo was berated for it in front of you, but his jaw only tightened, glare not losing its intensity. you had to hit his arm and make him realize it wasn't cool

he decides to listen to the second one and keep gaming as a hobby. technically, youtube started as a side thing, too, but it grew quickly, so he's glad that he didn't choose streaming
i feel like he's the aesthetic calming vlog type. his most popular video is him walking through the woods on a sunny autumn afternoon. you hear the nearby creek, the birds in the trees, the gentle wind, the crunching leaves...it's comforting and what made him blow up
he likes doing zoom ups on nature. sometimes he bakes like alvin zhou and has quiet kitchen sounds, but those are rare because he has housemates who are anything but calming
he collabs often with youtuber!mingyu, who convinced him to post his work in the first place
one sunny afternoon, he's making taking a video of flowers swaying in the wind, and the atmosphere is perfect. he's holding the camera perfectly still, thinking about whether his camera stand would work better than his—

you stumble out of the frame, but it's already too late — you crashing through the bushes has already ruined his video. he stops recording and gets to his feet, brushing off the back of his pants
"...can i help you?"
and you wince at the hardness of his voice and the way he doesn't even look at you. he's too busy rewinding through footage, determining whether he has enough to work with. when you don't answer, he glances at you
"i said, can i help you?"
he watches your expression change from apologetic to annoyed, and to be fair, it's his fault for being snappy, but he's upset that you interrupted a really good continuous shot
you point a finger at the giant bag by your feet, one he didn't notice until now. "not unless you know how to spread fertilizer, pretty boy. what're you doing on private property anyway?"
oh
he waves at the trees around him. "are these...yours?" he asks feebly. he sounds so dumb right now, god. he figured that there was a possibility of this being someone's land, but the nearest house was so far away and he's seen people take hikes here, so he thought that it'd be fine to record. he bites his lip. "sorry?"
you crack a smile at that, the tension in your shoulders dissolving. "no, i'm just kidding. guess you're not really from around here, huh? technically, it is private property, but the owner lets the locals wander all the time. i'm in charge of taking care of some of the plants, so, pretty boy—" you gesture at his equipment "—can you move all this before i dump my stuff over it?"
he's never scooped up his things faster. "i'm wonwoo, by the way. not, uh..."
there's a loud ripping sound as you tear through the bag. "not pretty boy?" you hum, almost a little disappointed. you grin over your shoulder. "i'm y/n. so where are ya from, if not around here?"
"you know. around." he takes one step backwards. "okay, nice to meet you, bye!"
and he's gone. he knows that it could've gone better, but what was he supposed to do? make small talk? ew. better to dip early than stand around awkwardly
when he tells mingyu about it over call later that night, his friend laughs
"nah," mingyu says, voice barely audible over the sound of him chopping carrots. "you have to go back and talk to them normally. that's your favorite film spot, isn't it? maybe they know more places off the main path. they sound nice, too — you can be friends."
"you just want to see me combust in front of a cute person."
"i didn't even say that they were cute?" mingyu sounds confused, but then his voice gets sly. "yah, wonwoo. i didn't say that they were cute."
"i'm hanging up."
"yeah, yeah, see you in twenty minutes. better not be late. soonyoung's coming over tonight and i'm not saving anything for you once he gets started."
when wonwoo comes over and mingyu wiggles his eyebrows from across the dinner table, wonwoo (lovingly) points his fork at his friend
but the words hang over his head for the next few days because mingyu was right, annoyingly enough. that place was his new favorite film spot. he found it not too long ago, so he hasn't explored much of the area, but now that it's covered in fertilizer, he probably won't be able to go there for a while
he sucks it up and eventually finds himself at the nearest farmhouse. the drive from the road to the front door was long enough to make him almost turn around a few times. he was even tempted to call up seungkwan and have him be a buffer, but seungkwan's busy filming today and wonwoo figures that he needs to take care of this own things
taking a deep breath, he knocks on the door
and it creaks open to reveal the grumpiest old man
"can i help ya?" the man asks, looking him up and down. his current outfit is a stark contrast to the man's
"hi, i'm wonwoo," he falters. "is y/n around?"
maybe he got the wrong house. he'd be so embarrassed if you didn't work here
but then the man's face lights up as he claps wonwoo on the shoulder
"oh yeah! come in! do you want something to drink? water? lemonade? juice?" he ushers wonwoo into the kitchen and into a seat before yanking over the back door. "y/n! some wonwoo kid is here to see you!"
wonwoo can barely get his bearings before you're barreling through the door, smile as bright as the afternoon sun outside, and he almost chokes on the cup the old man gives him
because he thought you were kind of cute before, covered in dirt and an oversized work outfit, but now that he can actually see your face, he realizes that you're really cute

when his channel was starting up, you were the one giving him the challenges. seokmin, i dare you to jump into the ocean with all your clothes on this and seokmin, i challenge you to volunteer for a week at an animal shelter that. you give him these little missions on cue cards or a phone call like he's on a tv show
now that he's more popular, his viewers leave plenty of video content ideas in his comments, so you've all but disappeared from his channel
you tried to fade away without fanfare. people made comments about your voice appearing less and less in his weekly videos, sure, but when a month passes without your participation, people start demanding your return
you never released your name or face, so his fans call you 'angel,' considering you seokmin's guardian angel for all the things you bust him out of
(one time, he was dared to go to a nice foreign restaurant for lunch, but it was so overwhelming that he used his chance card and called you for help)
he never formally addresses these comments, and that drives his viewers insane
especially when he sometimes goes, "oh, my friend would've loved to see this," and gets a fond look that everyone goes '!!!' over
and this friend is definitely not part of the group he calls the boys because he calls all twelve of them by name, but not you. you're an enigma, which only plays into the mystical image his fans have built of you

"let's see what they're doing," he says, eyebrows raising at how fast the comments are coming in now. he dials your number and puts it on speaker. you pick up right before it goes to voicemail. "hey, it's me. whatcha up to, angel?"
and the way he says it is so heckin' S O F T. the fans know that they're the ones who gave you that title, so why does the pet name sound so natural coming from his lips???
you, on the other hand, are less energetic. you groan, and there's shuffling before your voice comes through clearer. "i was asleep. had a long day today." you yawn. "did you need something?"
his eyes soften, and it's like the camera isn't even there anymore. "sorry i woke you up. i'm just on live right now and everyone's asking for you. can you say hi to the viewers for me?"
"hi there, everyone! it's me, seokmin's friend. thanks so much for supporting him!! i hope you continue to give him and his channel love <3"
"as much as we'd love to keep them on the line, we should let them get back to their nap." he tells his viewers. he takes the phone off speaker and holds it to his ear, voice as gentle as his gaze. "sleep well, okay? you wanna meet up the next time you're free? alright, message me your schedule when you get it. g'night, y/n — ah, i mean—"
his eyes dart to the screen, hoping that no one caught that, but judging by the way his comments explode ... no chance
there's two types of people after that livestream ends
one: the kind that waits patiently for the two of you to get together, knowing that seokmin was way too fond of you for your relationship to be purely platonic, especially with how he flushes at some of the responses. maybe this was why he never held a livestream before. he's bad at lying and can't compose himself, and without the magic of post-editing, he can't hide his reaction to your name
two: the kind who spams your new ship name
regardless of whichever camp people are in, there's no doubt that you and seokmin are inevitable. i suppose that's why when he eventually posts a video of someone daring him to ask you out, a request he's gotten for a long time but never had the courage for, no one's surprised

he's the biggest of the pack, followed closely by mingyu, but is anyone surprised? he's the oldest, so he grew into his size first, but now that everyone's growing and training, they're catching up. which makes him both proud of their hard work and upset that he can't tackle them down as easily anymore
bulky and massive, he's an intimidating presence when he raises his hackles or puffs out his chest, regardless of the form he's in. because of that, he never has to stand in front of you to protect you. just glaring from over your shoulder has others trembling
he's one of the best runners because of his leg strength and endurance. it's what he works out the most and it shows. watching him run takes your breath away with how the wind rushes through his fur as he dashes across the tall grass fields
he joined the track and field team once and had to quit before he drew too much attention. your school was devastated — they were banking on winning for the first time with him on the team
he complains about the younger ones rough housing, but when it comes to playing too hard, he's the one who usually crosses the line. it's a bad mix of competitiveness and unrestrained strength and him not realizing he's gone too far until the other person yelps and scratches his nose
once, you were playing around with him and he accidentally whacked you in the shoulder with his tail. it wouldn't have knocked the breath out of you if you'd been ready for it, but you weren't so when you wheezed, hands slamming onto the ground to catch yourself, he was by your side instantly
apologized by smoothing your hair and nuzzling into your face. that's how he normally apologizes, murmuring into your skin and rubbing your hands between his

"i'm not a dog!" he insists, but these words mean nothing when you scratch behind his ears because his tail will start wagging
his coat isn't the softest, which is strange because it looks so thick and floofy and shiny, but when you run your hands down his back, the ends of his hair prickle your skin. it's not so bad that it hurts or itches; it's just a different sensation than expected
his belly, though, is incredibly soft. that's the part you lean against when he's transformed. it's also a lighter color than the rest of his body
hmm, i don't know what color he would be. i'm leaning towards a coffee brown, maybe with a bit of grey on his ears, tail, and paws. he's kind of jealous of members like jeonghan and seungkwan because he wants to be vibrant, but at the same time, he wants to be all dark and mysterious like seungcheol and mingyu. in the end, it's not that deep — he's still happy with himself
you've seen this grown man get jittery over a spider. now imagine his transformed self. it's such a reversal because you've literally seen him hunt (at a safe distance and baby-sat by another member). he was the image of concentrated lethality. it was kinda attractive tbh
but when he's not in a hunting mindset, he's such a scaredy-cat. he jumps over rustling leaves and sticks close to another member when they're traveling
he might step on a twig and yelp when it snaps, which never fails to make you laugh
he has a special role as messenger of the pack because of his sheer volume. his howls cut through the night air like nothing else, clear and understandable even at considerable distances
ok, but he is so head over heels for you
just having your smell around is incredibly calming, and he's almost embarrassed by how quickly he buries his face in your pillows when he comes over to water your plants during your vacations
loves hooking his chin over your shoulder or your head or resting his cheek against your chest
when he wants to be pampered, he'll do this really pathetic whine and throw himself over you

ok so the only reason you two run into each other at all is because you're both music majors. not that music majors can't have other friends, but y'all spend so much time in the practice rooms, you forget what fresh air smells like
you and josh have different classes, though. he's a music history major with a focus on guitar and vocals, and you're a music education major specializing in piano — so not much overlap in classes, but one thing you and the rest of the department have in common?
the need for practice rooms
you k n ow the uni has the budget to build more, but they won't. renovations? even less likely. you swear the weird stain on the carpet is older than you are, and at this point, you feel emotionally connected to it
it's been with you through almost every breakdown so far — something even your best friend can't say is true for them
though you've seen josh around campus, the first time you ever really interact with him is when you're about to throw hands over the last free practice room
long story short: the music department is Messy. you think there would be some kind of order when it comes to sign ups considering how in demand they are, but there are No Rules
you, as a rather tech savvy student, signed up for this room on the website. josh, as a social butterfly who has no problem talking to professors, asked for this room through his advisor. who then made some kind of written permission form that shouldn't override the fact that your name was registered first
and after an argument that i won't write because it's not important, josh realizes that he left his sheet music in his other folder, the one he left at his friend's dorm, so he has to give up anyway?? you want to rub it in his face so bad, but he actually looks upset, so the kindness in your heart settles for patting his shoulder and saying, "better luck next time, buddy </3"
but like, why does he need a practice room???? this question bothers you for days. he does guitar and vocals. he can literally do that anywhere whereas you can't really lug a piano around??
case in point: he's currently sitting atop a picnic table and doing an acoustic cover of some radio pop song, surrounded by a few other students studying or vibing
you're not brave enough to plop down with them, so you settle at a nearby table and start studying with his voice and music as background noise
but then the music stops and you see josh's sneakers out of the corner of your eye
"hey! y/n, right? from last week?"
"yes?" ok what did he want lol a rematch??? a real fight????
he has this boyish grin, and since he's standing over you, the sunlight shining down gives him a bit of a halo, and as you're squinting, you realize that he's kinda,,,,cute. a little. maybe you're just missing human interaction
he sticks out a hand. "i'm josh. i totally didn't recognize your name at first, but aren't you the one who performed at orientation?"
"yes..." wait now that you think about it— "weren't we in the same orientation group??"
omfg in your defense, three years is a LONG time and your graduating class is huge and joshua really bloomed since then. so did you, you like to think
"we were!"
and he just,,,,,,stands there. you wait to see if he has another question before waving at your notebook
"well, i'm gonna get back to reading?"
cool. you think that's the last of him, but n o. he keeps popping up randomly?? did you always share these study spaces? do you really cross paths between classes so often??? or are you able to pick out his face now because you're looking for him in crowds? the world may never know
the wariness you initially felt around him fades quickly. it's hard to keep up the unfriendliness when his whole body lights up as he waves at you, no matter how far away you are
one time he waves so excitedly, he knocks his soda can off the outdoor table, and you shouldn't laugh — you really shouldn't — but the way he goes from happy to utterly distraught has you in stitches
you buy a new soda from the vending machine next to you and walk it over
"can't have chicken without cola, right?" you say, amused
"of course not. you need the soda to cut the grease." he waves to the seat next to him. "wanna join me? i bought enough to save for dinner later, but i'm thinking of ordering something else instead."
sure, you're free.
"i'll pay you for what i eat."
"don't worry about that!! think of it as thanks for the soda."
now that you're actually talking to him...he's a super fun conversation partner? he's silly and kind, not the attention hungry popular type you expected
"are you doing anything else today?"
"i was planning to go practice." but you're so full. a nap sounds really good now. it's warm enough to make you lazy. "what about you?"
"my friend's doing a cover and needs a guitar instrumental, so i was gonna head over and record something for him." and there must have been something in your eyes when he looks at you because he grins. "do you want to come watch?"
you really should practice, but you've been practicing so much lately. to the point where you can close your eyes and swear you hear muffled sounds of another musician in the room beside you
"okay."
which is probs the biggest mistake of the semester because now that you're watching josh be serious, sitting on a chair and playing guitar into a microphone, you realize how attractive he is? like he's always been good looking DUH but something about a hard working man...
"thanks, dude, that sounds great," his friend jihoon says, throwing him a thumbs up. "someone else was supposed to come do backing vocals for me, but they just cancelled."
"oh, i can do that, too, if you want?"
"that's a lot — are you sure?"
"yeah, no problem." josh looks at you. "am i holding you up, y/n? sorry, if you're busy, we can head out now."
"no, no, no." you shake your hands. "do what you gotta do. i like watching the process. never really get to see what happens in recording studios."
"oh?" jihoon looks up and waves you over. "you can sit here with me then. i'll show you what i do."
and if you glanced back as you made your way over, you'd notice josh's displeased frown aimed right at jihoon's amused eyebrow raise
but you don't care about that — you're amazed at all the buttons and sliders at jihoon's work station!! wow!!! jihoon lets you marvel over everything, patiently explaining what it all does, while josh is in the booth drumming his fingers on the stand like.......ok can we start so i can get them away from you
tbh it's because jihoon sees the way josh looks at you that he's doing this. this pretty boy has been dragging his feet on getting to know you, even though he's had a crush ever since you played at orientation — a crush he brushed off only to be hit full force again three years later. maybe an outside force will push him to do something, anything
so even if jihoon has to deal with josh's grumpiness, he'll stick with it for as long as it takes
but — he glances over at how your eyes widen as josh sings — it's probably safe to say that it won't be long

➔ notes: general, fluff ; heya!! was thinking about my possible future job and then my brain was like "didn't you write an au for it??" so here i am with some general headcanons from that universe <3
he was so sure he wanted to do physical therapy or something related to sports medicine back in college, but then he volunteered to tutor at a local elementary school and something in him clicked
switching into early childhood education was a process because he never considered it before he started volunteering?? so he had no idea where to even start, and yeah it took a few extra years, but it was all worth it!! when he stepped into his classroom and saw all the student desks!!!
he started in an elementary school at first and was placed with 6th graders, which is. fine. he did okay, did that for some time while he sorted out certifications. maybe it was the school??? or the area?? it didn't feel Right to him, and he couldn't put his finger on it
one day, he's taking a walk in the park when a flyer hits him in the face and he's about to put it in the recycling when the words catch his eye. a local daycare is offering up an assistant teacher position, and it's such a jump from his current grade level, but...maybe a change of environment would do him good
and it did!! he trusted his gut like when he changed majors, and next thing he knows, he's standing in a room with tables that don't reach his knees, but boy is he the happiest he's been
back when he worked half days, they gave him morning shifts, and that was fine because he could wake up at dawn and work out, head to work for a few hours, and then have the rest of the afternoon free
when they gave him afternoon shifts, he was tempted to sleep in, but working out gave him so much energy. and tbh, part of his motivation was the fact that the kids love hanging off his arms, so he had to keep up his strength
now he works full time, both morning and afternoon shifts, which means double the work as before but also double the time with kids!!! they're filled with so much curiosity and love for the world
he loves the way the smallest things make them happy. snack time is a little longer today?? wow!! it's raining so no outside play? :( but wait, the teachers are bringing out the special toys? everything's alright!!
brings that attitude in everything because life's too short to not appreciate the little things
has 100% accidentally used his teacher voice on his friends
having so many boys in a house, as big as the house is, means that there's some messes
how many times has he called out "use your walking feet" and "inside voices, friends" while half distracted at the stove or making lesson plans? too many times to count
so many of the single parents crush on him ahh he's just so sweet and his smile??? it's so SOFT, especially when he handles the children, and all his students love him. if they don't like him at first, they'll eventually warm up to him - it's the RULE. everyone must love teacher seungcheol >:(

for someone who's shy, he's definitely at the center of many social circles. to be fair, it's because he and his friends are incredibly popular. handsome boys and always ready to help
joshua prefers hanging out by the side when they're together, laughing and watching the others joke around. they definitely get told off by some teachers for being too rowdy in the courtyard
he's known in his class for being the humanities buff, so people go to him for help all the time, but when it comes to math, he is so Lost. goes to his friends for homework help sometimes, and when they're busy, he just...waits
like, they've told him to get a tutor, but tbh he can't bring himself to do it. something about admitting that he can't do math to a person who isn't a friend. also something about having to get to know another person, get them familiar with his learning style
you, you're an average student. you do well enough, so you've never needed extra tutoring, but this latest paper is hard to write for some reason
your friend tells you to talk to josh because he's a great proof-reader, really good at strengthening arguments and tackling things from new perspectives. maybe it's from having such diverse friends
when you ask him during lunch to stay after school for a bit, he says yes with an easy smile, and while you've never paid much attention to him, you can see why people like him so much. he's kinda cute
but he doesn't stand out, y'know? you know his friends seokmin and soonyoung and seungkwan and junhui. who hasn't heard of them? it's not really a proper day unless you hear one of them yelling in the halls, but josh? he's on the quiet end
sometimes you forget you're in the same class as a member of their school-famous group of friends until the rest of them rush in at the lunch bell to whisk him away. you suppose the best word you can use to describe him is shy
anyway, he meets you in the library after last period, gently rapping his knuckles at the edge of the table you've secured. once you look up, he gives you that smile that you swear will get him in trouble some day
not in a bad way, just...he's too good looking
anyway, time moves fast. he does a quick read through of your paper, marking up the things that first jump out at him. then he reads it more carefully for organization and argument and one last time through for grammar and punctuation
you've never seen any of your readers be this thorough. during peer edits, your partner would write "great job!" at the top despite the glaringly obvious typos and your rushed conclusions, so it was refreshing to see all the annotations on your paper right now, even if it hurt you on the inside
"you have a good set up," he says, sliding it back over to you. "but the point gets lost halfway through. i made some notes for you."
bless that guy wow his notes are actually helpful. you think that's it, but then he pulls out his lab report and starts working. he looks up after sensing your gaze
"ah, i was going to check it after you're done, but i can leave if i'm being a bother?"
BLESS THIS GUY, WOW. there's a bit of pressure — you don't type very fast — but it's enough to make you work faster without being too stressed. as he's reading over it again, you see last week's math homework peeking out of his work pile
"did you not do this?" you ask, pointing to it. you don't mean anything by it, but the flush that erupts on josh's face makes you feel a little bad. "do you need help with it?"
"i don't need it." his tone is stiff. strange. you shrug, figuring you'd at least offer since he's doing something for you, too

"sorry, i do need your help with it," he mumbles, unable to meet your eyes. "i don't get this unit. are you good at math?"
"i'm okay at it." you tug at the sheet. "let me see what you've done so far?"
hm, he's done nothing, and at your eyebrow raise, his embarrassment is back. it's kinda cute tbh. he was talking to you fine before, but now he ums and ahs every few words, flicking a pencil around his fingers
"how about a deal, josh?" you wait until he lifts his head. "you be my editor for the rest of the year, and i'll guide you through the math homework. we can meet after school and study together. what do you say?"
he tilts his head, evaluating your outstretched hand before taking it
"sure. we can get food or something, too. don't have to stay in this stuffy library all the time."
"that's a great idea! we can start now. ice cream?"
"okay."
"i do have one request first."
"hm?"
you wiggle your fingers with a grin. "let go of my hand?"

SEUNGCHEOL:
how you meet - you noticed him helping the managers count off the members at the gate and decided to see if they needed anything.
how you start talking - he coincidentally ended up on another one of your flights. you didn't know if he remembered you, so you didn't approach him, but when you passed out refreshments, he made a joke about making sure his whole group was present.
how you start liking each other - after the third flight, he ended up asking for your number to be better friends. you found out you both have the same sense of humor, which made the transition from "let's be friends" to "maybe we can try a relationship?" smooth.
how you date - you make up the long distance by having a lot of calls when you're free.
JEONGHAN:
how you meet - he was crouched down in his airplane seat to scare one of his members. ended up scaring you, making you drop the basket of cookies.
how you start talking - on the same flight, actually. as you were passing out refreshments, you commented how drinks were harder to clean up, should he scare you again. he asked if you had better airplane pranks. you gave him your number.
how you start liking each other - took a while to jump tbh. you had a very easy-going friendship. you didn't talk often, but when the other responded, it didn't feel like days or weeks in between. you appreciated that.
how you start dating - he asked you out over phone call when you were both jet-lagged.
how you date - you do a lot of virtual dates, like online tours.
JOSHUA:
how you meet - you were picking up some snacks at a duty-free shop, but you couldn't read the language. you were asking the cashier what it was when he jumped in to help. he had them before.
how you start talking - on the way to the gate. you both said good-bye a few times before you realized you were heading to the same gate.
how you start liking each other - your friend took you to a svt fan sign because their other friend got sick. he was there and recognized you. you didn't become a carat, but you thought he was pretty cool. the feelings part came out of nowhere.
how you start dating - slid into his dms. as a joke, ofc, you were already friends by then.
how you date - you handwrite letters to each other.
