Ugh. Was so looking forward to having some pink on the grid, but alas, more exposed carbon fibre. FIA, how about a new rule about the entire car needing to be covered in paint? We want colorful cars!

Indulging my not-a-regency-kink-I-promise
... Indulging my regency-the-era kink
... Came while thinking about topping some fancy guy (ala my little tirade whenever that was about how in candlelight he's not any better than me, I'll find it in a bit - anyway think less regency more Victorian, him on his hands and knees and me standing at the foot of the bed, y'know, waistcoats etc disgarded for some fucking reason, ha), whispering to myself around a mouthful of duvet cover "please sir please sir can i cum please sir"
ooh there's a thought, huh? Wouldn't it be something else to,, not discard the waistcoats, be so desperate to just uh get to it no need to take anything off just quick huh yeah - or, I think it'd be fun, in this hypothetical reality where it's 150 years ago and I am able to pack and play or whatever folk call it nowdays without getting brought before the magistrate - oho, maybe the fancy guy is the magistrate, in that way that Lords or whoever are/were sometimes, and I know he'd never be that cruel to me, his favourite servant, hm? - what was I saying, istg - oh, yeah, he's stripped, just a man blah blah blah y'know all that candlelight stuff, but I'm still in my livery, his livery, the I guess the footman's uniform - did butlers and valets still wear their uh their employer that's all their employer's colours in them days or was it just the lower ranks? Bashing my historian head in, no, I don't care enough to spend hours finding out, no, for the love of god just go have breakfast stop thinking pointless things
Or, I could be in my Sunday half-day clothes (see my pics, modern ones booo, where I say something about the rain aaand then strip out of them), instead of his uniform, we could pretend we're equal lmao
Pfffffft no this is too funny - he could be in my clothes and I could be in his, see how he likes getting fucked by the establishment lmao (he does, he likes it very much lmao)

How do I know that I have marketing background and not watching-F1-since-I-was-a-child background? It's when I don't get why people get bitter about teams not changing car liveries. That's part of team's identity and it's normal not to change it too often. When you think about McDonald's you automatically see yellow and red. The same it's with Ferrari and red, Mercedes and silver. At this point it would be strange if they significantly changed their liveries. Or if some other team would suddenly come with a car painted fully in red. I don't think that colour can be patented but it's very impartant part of the branding.

Sorry, but I Don’t Recall the Crime

Previous Chapter   Masterpost
Portia lets us sleep in the next morning.  The sun is high enough in the sky that the light is indirect when I open my eyes, roused by a loud knock at the door and a shouted warning that it’s her, and we have two minutes to get decent or she’s coming in anyway.  I’m still laying on top of Julian.  He blinks his eyes in confusion and sits up as I roll off him, grabbing for the robe that I abandoned on the back of the sofa.
“Morning.”  He yawns, and I pick his pants up off the floor and toss them to him.  There’s another knock at the door and he seems to wake up a little more, swinging his long legs over the edge of the bed and pulls them on.  I knot the sash around my waist and stumble to the door, opening for Portia, who’s carrying a tray with pastries and an extra large pot of coffee.
“Wakey, wakey,” she chirps, just as chipper as ever.  “It’s nearly noon.”
Ilya groans and holds his head in his hands.  Portia grins as she pours a cup of thick black coffee for him and offers it to him.  “I still remember how you like it.”  He takes the cup and lifts his head, blinking sleepily at her.  Portia freezes for a moment, then steps back.  “Ilya, your eye!”
“Oh shit!”  He starts, nearly spilling the coffee across his bare chest.  “No, no, no, Pasha it’s okay, I swear.”
I put a hand on Portia’s shoulder.  She’s trembling.  “Really.  It is.”
“What happened to you?”
“Well, um.”  He grins up at her and takes a drink of coffee.  “I don’t exactly know.  But I’m still kicking, so...”
Portia sighs and reaches out to touch his hair, pushing the long bangs back from his face.  “What did you get yourself into, brother mine?”
“The usual.  Trouble.”
“And now we’ve got to get you out of it.”  She turns back to the tray on the table and grabs herself a pastry.  "Eat up.  No sense in trying to problem solve on an empty stomach."
Julian bolts the coffee, stretches his back, and finds his shirt in the floor before meandering around to the sofa to join me.  Portia has pulled up a chair opposite the table and is working on a mug of tea.  I'm settled in with coffee and another one of the heavenly almond pastries, waiting for the caffeine to kick in.
"What's the connection you think?”  Portia muses.
"What do you mean?”  Julian is starting his second cup of coffee, and I suspect it'll take three before he's good for much.
"Between you and Lucio?  Being in his room, with that ghost triggered one of your headaches - I guess, I'll call it a memory headache.”
“Then the same thing happened when I mentioned about the Lazaret,” Julian adds.  It’s more a mumble than a real statement, entirely different from his usual conversation style.
“Okay, so, I don't know, seems like there could be a connection there.  For that matter, Ilya, if you're getting the same kind of headaches, then you're involved as well.  And the way that ghost talked to the both of you - puppy, dove?  What the hell was that?”  Once Portia gets going, she’s easily as wordy as her brother.
"I, uh -”  Julian sits up and rubs at the back of his neck then pushes his hand through his hair flipping more of it over his eyes.  "I, uh, knew Lucio for a long time.  Back when he was mercenary and lost his arm.  As for Dema, well, he'd always hit on anyone who caught his eye.  Or maybe she and I -”
"Yeah, yeah, you two were together - you both forget - blah.  You're such a dumbass sometimes, Ilyushka.  I mean, how the hell do you forget-”
"Lucio is a creepy fuck of a ghost."  I interrupt Portia's commentary before Julian can turn any redder.  I rub my upper arms trying to push away any memory of the ghostly claws.  I suppose I should be glad that so far the Count had limited himself to touching me over my clothes.  Fuck that.
"And don't forget that Milady is also missing memories, just a lot more of them than anyone else."
"Except Dema."  Julian sets his cup down and crosses his arms behind his head, leaning to stretch out his back again.
"The most salient point is that no one remembers exactly how Lucio died.”  I try to get the conversation back on topic and away from sibling squabbles.  “The people who do remember that night, didn't see.  Valerius only arrested you because you were there."
"You're adorable when you use words like salient.  You know that."
"Oh, brother,"  Portia groans.  "The other courtiers are pretty fishy if you ask me."
"I can't see any of them acting alone, except maybe -"
"- Valdemar."  Julian uncrosses his hands from behind his head and leans forward on the table with a groan.  "They have absolutely no scruples about killing.  But spontaneous combustion is really too tidy for their style."
"How can spontaneous combustion be too tidy?”
"Valdemar likes to have an intact body.  For, um, reasons.  Burning doesn't leave much to work with."
Portia shudders and looks slightly disgusted.  She shakes her to dismiss the thought.  "What if they acted together?  They could be covering for each other by pushing Milady to believe Julian did it."
"Valerius suggested that as much as he suggested anything."
"Ugh.  You didn't get anything really useful from him, did you?”
"Just more questions."  I suspect that some of what Valerius is keeping to himself would be helpful, but I don't think he has a much better grasp of Lucio's death than we do.  "Do you think Lucio knows who killed him?  His ghost certainly didn't think it was you."
"What ghosts do and don't know is outside my area of expertise.  And I don't want to - I mean I don't want you to go back there.  Either of you."  He pours himself another cup of coffee.  Portia peels an orange and divides sections between the three of us.
"What do you think he meant by 'not for long'?”
"It was about being trapped in that form.  Could he be trying to bring himself back from the dead?”
"Can't be done."  Julian pops a piece of orange in his mouth and talks around it.  "Dead is dead is dead."
"What did he mean about Asra stealing a new body for his dead lover then?”
Julian shrugs.  "That's another question for Asra."
"You said he was doing some sort of magic with blood."  The image from my dream the other night of Asra cutting into Julian's palm and letting the blood drip onto the cardinal points of a sigil floats behind my eyes.  Julian nods, rubbing his hand as he does.  "If it were possible to create a new body, whether to bring someone back from the dead or for someone who was ill to take over, it would have to involve something at least as powerful as blood magic.  I mean, I had to use a blood spell to coax Lucio onto materializing at all last night."
"You did what?  Dema!”
"It's okay, Julian.  I time limited it."  At least, I think I did.  I hope I did.  I don’t care for what it means if I didn’t.
"Have you heard of spells that would bring someone back from the dead?”  Portia asks.
I pause and hope that some arcane information about corporeality, resurrection, and enfleshment will just materialize in my consciousness, as information so often does with no explanation of when, how, or where I learned it.  "No.  But researching might be a start.  Maybe if I knew what kind of magic was being used.  But-"  I groan and ball my hands up in frustration.  "There's no time to be indirect."
"So, we corner all the courtiers and beat it out of them?"  Portia runs her hands together.  She's joking - I think.  But there's a glint in her eyes that makes me wonder.  "I'm sure Maz would help with that."
"No."  Julian shakes his head.  "I don't want you near them.  Not you, not Dema, not Mazelinka."
"What about Volta?”
"What about her?"
"Do you think she might give us information?  She doesn't seem as bad as the others."
"We could offer her food.  Maybe?  She keeps the servants running all night bringing snacks to her chambers."  Portia doesn't look quite convinced by the idea.  "But, they all say that she's actually nice to them."
Julian shakes his head, then sets his coffee aside and stretches out as much as possible on the sofa, with his head resting in my lap.  "What if instead of showing that someone else did it, we prove that I didn't do it?  I mean, if I can find evidence to convince myself of that, then certainly it will convince the Countess."
"You can't use magic, can you?”
He looks up at me and touches his throat.  "Other than this?  Don't even want to."
"And is there any scientific explanation for the spontaneous combustion of a person?”
"Not that I know of."
Portia catches where my logic is going and grins.  "So you couldn't have done it!  That wasn't a natural fire."
Julian gnaws at his bottom lip, looking thoughtful.  "I suppose, but that doesn't explain why I was there.  And I was there."
Portia stands and starts clearing the table.  "I'll work on Milady.  Try to get the question of how the fire started in the first place in her mind.  Maybe you two could work in the library?  Ilya might find something in his desk.  And you probably won't be bothered there.  Since I have the keys.  Now.  If something happens, go to my cottage.  Through the maze then straight back.  Dema, you remember, right?"
“Oh, the fixer upper one out past the orchard?  That’s yours now?  Nice, sis.”
“And fixed up nicely, I’ll have you know.  Get dressed.  Back in half an hour.”
***
Portia leads us to the library, peering around corners as she goes for passers by, even though I've glamoured Julian's hair to appear black and tossed it over his eyepatch.  She unlocks the door quickly, deft hands finding the multiple keys and turning them in the locks.  Julian walks into the room slowly, pushing his hair out of his eyes as the glamour fades.  Sunlight from the windows catches the highlights, making it look even redder than before.  He looks around the room and turns slowly, as if in a trance.
“Alright, you two, I’m going to lock the door behind you.  I should be back in a few hours.”
The keys turn loudly in the locks as Portia secures us inside the library.  Julian is still standing in a ray of sunshine, the pale cream of the palace livery a stark change from his usual black on black, but it suits him just as well.  He looks a little lost in the moment, like he's soaking in information directly from the surroundings and it's a bit too much to comprehend.  I take one of his hands in mine and squeeze his fingers.
"Come back to me, Julian."  Asra's said the same thing to me so many times, patiently gripping my hand.
"Sorry."  Julian shakes his head.  "Sorry, I spent a lot of time in here."
"It's okay."
He walks across the floor to the pile of pillows that I had curled up in the other day to try and decipher his journals.  "Asra worked here.  He had a veritable fortress of books stacked around him.  And he napped all the time."  He pauses and looks back at me.  "Does he still do that?"
"He does."  I'm bad about napping too, especially when I'm having trouble sleeping at night.  It's a wonder we manage to keep the shop running on any sort of schedule.
Julian crosses the room, to the little niche that his desk was tucked into.  "Tidier than how I left it.  At least, how I think I left it."  He picks up one of the journals and thumbs through it before setting it aside with a visible shudder.  "Nothing but bad memories there."  He picks up the folded letter next, reads the first couple lines, then sinks into the chair and leans over the desk, head cradled in his hands as his shoulders start to shake.  I run my hands along his shoulders, trying to soothe whatever emotion has taken hold of him.
"She was eleven when I left home."  His voice, when he finally speaks, is choked.  "Eleven!  And I didn't see her again until the other day.  I've got to be the worst brother in the world.  It's almost worse that she's willing to forgive me everything."  He snaps his fingers.  "Just like that."
"Julian."  I lean over him, pressing my lips to the crown of his head.  "She loves you.  You're still her brother."
"So she finds me, just to lose me again?"
"We're going to sort this out.  You're not a murderer."
Julian picks up the journal his was thumbing through and then tosses it to the side.  "Are you sure about that? Maybe not Lucio, but . . .”  His voice trails off as I run my fingers through his hair.  His shoulders slump and he collapses over the desk, head in his arms.  “Why do you have such faith in me?”
“Just do.”  I can’t explain it, but I don’t feel any need to try either, so I stay quiet and rub his shoulders until he lifts his head off the desk.  He twists in the chair and I lean over and touch my lips to his forehead.
“Thank you.”  His voice is a breath more than speech.  He closes his eyes for a moment, then blinks them back open.  “I should sort through all this, I suppose.  See if anything here truly is important.  Maybe you could look through the books?  See if you can find anything about how to magic someone back from the dead?”
“I’ll see what I can do.  Not really sure where to start.”  I ruffle his hair again for good measure as he goes back to the papers stacked on the desk.
It takes me a while to orient myself in the library.  The collection is impression, both in breadth and depth.  The shelves go to the ceiling.  There are books well beyond my reach, but there are also ladders attached with rollers that make them easy to move.  The section for books on magic is in a dark corner toward the back, and I have to summon a light before I can begin to make out the titles.  I wasn’t lying when I said I didn’t know where to start, but I am nearly certain that raising the dead would require blood.  And well, that’s the only lead I have.
The majority of the magic tomes are covered in a thick layer of dust.  When I find the shelf with books on the less respectable practices, I’m surprised to find that these books are less dusty than the other.  They’ve been neglected, but while the others appear to have sat untouched for a decade or more (some are complete with cobwebs!), the ones with titles that suggest what I might need only have a light coating of dust.  I gather the ones that look most promising and retreat to Asra’s pile of cushions.  It’s under a window, and the afternoon sunlight pouring in creates the perfect space to curl up and read.
I scan the content pages of the books that have them and set several aside that appear to be mostly dedicated to describing the acts associated with sects that use blood magic in the most inflammatory language possible.  Heresiology is not what I need at the moment.  A book in the middle of the stack looks more promising.  It’s ancient, hand written, and lacks a table of contents, but unlike the others, it’s an actual book of spells.  I thumb through the book, scanning the descriptions for any key words.
The sun is getting low in the sky when Julian plops down next to me and draps an arm around my shoulders.  I set the book on my knees and turn my face to him.  “Find anything?”
With a heavy sigh, he shows me an empty palm, then with a mischievous grin, closes his hand and opens it again to reveal an iron key.  I roll my eyes at the trick.  As he makes the key disappear again, presumably to a pocket somewhere in his coat. “What’s that for?”
He shrugs, then pulls me closer to him.  "Not sure.  But you ever just get a sense that something is exactly what you're looking for."
"That's happened."
"Yes, well, that and none of the papers were much use.  Research notes.  Fruitless research notes for that matter.  Barren.  As useful as a mirage in the bloody desert.  Not to mention that a few were, in fact, bloody."  He lays down next to me and settles his head in my lap, looking up at me through the hair falling over his face.  His eyepatch is missing, presumably removed to make reading easier.  "This key was the only other thing left.  Any luck with the books?”
"This one might have some useful information in it."
"Mmm . . . Don't let me stop you.  Just going to close my eyes for a few minutes."  He snuggles deeper into the cushions, and tilts his head to the side.  I trail my finger done the center of his nose, winning a smile from him before returning to the book.
I flip through several more pages of spells and symbols, annotated with dense notes about the theory behind why they just might work and stern precautions about their use.  An illuminated page with colored calligraphy and gilt lettering introduces a new chapter:  On Interaction with the Spirits of the Departed.
My reading slows, and I turn the pages with care, trying to commit the sigils to memory - at least, passive memory, enough to recognize them should I see them again.  These are significantly more complex than the one I used to speak with Lucio.  One allows for summoning a specific spirit to a location.  Another provides a means to anchor a ghost to a specific location.  Quite reasonably, it's paired with a banishing spell.
A thin scrap of parchment marks the next page.  The pamplimset is covered with notes in a very familiar script.  The same script that labels many of the bottles and boxes in the shop.  The same that leaves notes for me in random locations - ones that I'll surely find, but won't expect - when a certain someone has wandered away.  Asra.
Underlined and circled at the bottom is a single word:  almost.
I set the note aside.  Underneath it there page is taken up by an intricate diagram, one that would be impossible to recreate without proper tools, no small amount of skill, and significant time.  I run my finger up the page to the heading: Possession of a Body.
I shouldn't be surprised, not when Julian has told me that Asra was using blood and with what Lucio's ghost had shrieked about Asra stealing a body from him.  But still, I didn't expect to find tangible evidence.  Perhaps I didn't want to believe that Asra had really been involved in something so potentially dangerous and so deeply unethical as inviting a spirit to possess the body of someone else.
No. I don't want to think about it.
I fold the parchment note back in the book and set it aside.  Later.  I'll deal with that later.   For now, I gently lift Julian's head and replace my thigh with a small cushion.  He mumbles in protest, but settles back as soon as I'm curled up next to him.  My head's on his chest; it's his turn to be a pillow for a bit.
"Mmm... Taking a break?"  He lifts a hand and trails his fingers through my hair.
"Just resting my eyes."
"You should do that.  Getting late anyway."
As soon as my eyes shut, there’s a noise from outside of the library, followed by a loud exclamation.  “Oh, sorry Milady!  Slippery fingers again!”
“It’s quite alright, Portia.”  The countess’s dulcet voice is at a normal level, but carries easily through the door.
Julian bolts upright and scrambles out of the floor before reaching back down to pull me to my feet.  “Shit.  Shit!  What do we do?  I know, you hide, then when Nadia comes in, run.  She’ll be too busy arresting me to notice you.”  I shake my head and he groans.  “Don’t you understand?  You’ll hang with me.”
“No.  I’m not leaving you.”
He spins around.  “Maybe we could get out the window?  You can’t, like, turn into a giant bird or something?  Uh, can you?”
“Yeah, no.”  I pull us over to where a shelf will hide us from direct view of the door and let my awareness drift around the room.  Portia said there were portals and passages all through the palace.  If I can just find one of those.  Keys turn in the locks again, tumblers falling into place.  How many were there again?  Then . . . there it is!  And it’s close to where we are.  I pull Julian with me to the wall and touch a symbol engraved there.  Unlike the portal leading the Lucio’s wing, the magic of this one is Asra’s.  If my luck holds, it’ll lead to my shop and safety.
The wall seems to open, edges glowing around the passageway.  Not to my shop, but into the garden with the willow tree and the fountain.  It’ll do.  Especially since I can hear the door opening.  I shove Julian through, hissing for him to go to Portia’s cottage, and close the portal before he can insist that I follow.  Portia and I together should be able to keep the Countess busy enough that she won’t be looking for him.
Beyond, I hear the mechanisms of the door turning as it opens, and I step out from behind the shelf, trying to look like I had simply been looking for a book.  Nadia is as collected and graceful as every, one step behind her Portia is wringing her hands in worry.  “Oh, Countess, hello.”
“Dema, dear, it’s good to see that you’re feeling better.  Portia told me that a headache simply knocked you down last night after visiting the Count’s old wing.”
“Thank you, my lady.  I thought a quiet day working in the library might make sense.”
“Yes.”  She looks over to Julian’s desk, where the papers and portfolios are now arranged into haphazard stacks.  “Did you happen to find anything?”
“No.”  I shake my head, trying to mime disappointment.  “I thought I might try to research some magic that would account for state of Lucio’s chambers.”
“Portia did mention that the burn marks didn’t look like the usual pattern for a fire.”
“Not at all.”  I shake my head.  “I think that only some sort of magic could explain it.”
Nadia presses her lips together considering the statement.  She seems about to say something when the chamberlain enters the library followed by a very familiar figure.  One with a lot of explaining to do.  “My lady, you have another visitor - the magician Asra.”
Nadia turns and Asra bows to her, eyes twinkling as he does.  “Your Excellency.”
Her head tilts slightly to the side, and while I can’t see her expression, I feel the contemplating look that she gives Asra.  Asra only smiles at her, one of his perfect winning smiles that could charm the wings off a butterfly.  She recovers with the smallest shake of her head.  “I am pleased to finally meet my favorite magician’s mentor; although . . . well, nevermind.”  She glances back at me.  “Both of you will dine with me this evening?”
“Of course, Countess.”  Asra accepts for both of us, not I would expect that there is any other option.
“Very well.  And should you wish to stay the night, I believe the guest room beside your apprentice’s is available.  Dema, would you take your master with you?  I’ll send Portia presenting with dining attire for the both of you.”
Portia shoots me a questioning look as the Countess sweeps out of the library.
“It’s okay, Portia.”  I emphasize okay.  “I know my way.”
Alone in the library, Asra quickly closes the distance between us, pulling me into a tight hug.  “I got worried when you didn’t come back last night.  Or today.  Then I realized you’d be here.”  His fingers trace my jawline, ever so gently, and without thinking I tilt my head into his hand, as his thumb brushes over my cheek.  “Are you alright?  There’s nothing I wouldn’t do you?  You know that?”
Nothing he wouldn’t do?  I believe him.  I’m not sure I want to, but I do.  Even with his eyes as gentle as they can be, I believe that there truly might not be anything that he wouldn’t do.  I reach up and touch his cheek.
“I’m fine, Asra.”  Should I drag him over the pile of books I had gathered and ask him to explain the note now?  Perhaps not until I know a little more, when I have a better chance of pinning him down and avoiding his deflections.  I take his hand in mine.  “Come on, when the Countess says dress for dinner, she really means it.”
“Oh, I remember,” he says with a smile.  “She always put together the best looks for her guests as well.”
My rooms are not so far from the library.  We walk in silence, Asra seemingly content to just hold my hand.  I close the door behind us with a sigh, happy for the relative privacy.
“Tell me about the maid?  Portia, I think?  I don’t recognize her from before.”
“She’s Julian’s sister.”
“His sister?”  Asra looks surprised for a moment.  “I wasn’t expecting that.”
I catch him up on the prior day, leaving out most of the details.  His face falls as I describe searching Lucio’s wing, especially when I tell him that the ghost was able to touch me.
“He shouldn’t be able to have that much of a physical presence.”
“You don’t sound surprised that he’s there.”
Asra shakes his head.  “No, he was never one to let go, not of anything.  I can’t imagine that he would accept being dead.  And, with everything that happened then . . .”
“Asra, what did happen?”
He closes his eyes, expression becoming so melancholy that I can’t stop myself from cradling his face in my hands.  “I don’t remember exactly what I did.  Really.  I don’t.  I wish that I did.”  He leans forward, pressing his forehead to mine.  “Maybe I could protect you better if I did.”

You Can’t Cross the Same River Twice - Chapter 3
Trapper's shift starts disgustingly early and he's moving around the dark bedroom as quietly as possible, obviously trying not to wake Hawkeye as he gets dressed. But after sleeping so much over the past few days and going to bed reasonably early the night before, he's awake anyway. So Hawkeye turns on the lamp and he's treated to the sight of Trapper in shorts, socks, a mis-buttoned shirt, and and a severely off-kilter tie. Hawkeye laughs at him as he fumbles to straighten everything out.
"Sure, laugh it up. A guy tries to be considerate and this is the thanks he gets? Next time I'll just turn on the light at 4 am - see who's laughing then." But he's smiling, face so full of openness and warmth Hawkeye can't stand it and he has to go kiss him right on his stupid - adorable - overbite.
They kiss for a while, and they're both clearly interested in more, but Trapper has somehow become a responsible person in the year and a half since he left Korea. So rather than taking off the clothes he has on, Trapper pushes Hawkeye gently away and finishes getting dressed. And then they go downstairs to eat breakfast together. Maybe it's not the quickie Hawkeye was hoping for - and that definitely would have made Trapper late for work, because Hawkeye doesn't feel like being all that quick - but this is nice too.
And if, after Trapper leaves for work, Hawkeye takes a very long, hot, pleasureable shower, well that's between him, fantasy Trapper, and his own right hand.
Hawkeye's morning isn't altogether unproductive, though. He writes his dad finally. He'd sent a telegram from San Francisco saying he was back stateside, but nothing since. And it's a short letter, just letting his dad know he's fine and in Boston with Trapper and that he's not ready to come up to Maine yet but loves and misses him. The letter is a load off Hawkeye's mind, though. He doesn't want his dad to worry, but he also can't face him in person yet.
Hawkeye also writes letters of introduction - or reintroduction - to the various clinics around Boston, eager to get back to practicing real medicine after so many years of meatball surgery. And he's hoping to be rehired at the clinic in South End because it's familiar and close to Trapper's house and on the bus line. Because, the thing is, he doesn't technically have a driver's license. He hadn't needed one to drive in small town Maine - and he was rarely able to borrow his dad's car since it was needed in case of medical emergencies - and he hadn't needed to drive at all in big cities like New York or Boston. And though he'd passed the Korean version of a road test, it doesn't count in the states - and Rizo had maybe gone a little easy on him. He had once managed to flip a Jeep and give himself a concussion after all. Anyway, Trapper doesn't have a car he could borrow. Apparently that had gone to his ex-wife in the divorce. But, Trapper said, he'd gotten the house and he doesn't live out in the suburbs like Robert and now Louise so he hadn't minded too much.
So Hawkeye can't drive, legally or otherwise, and he figures he should probably get used to taking the bus as soon as possible. He and Trapper had taken the train when they went downtown - a mode of transportation that doesn't yet have any negative associations for Hawkeye - but it doesn't run everywhere. So he girds his proverbial loins, checks a bus schedule, and plans a trip to buy knitting supplies. It's a relaxing hobby and Hawkeye figures he'll need that after the day's adventure in public transit.
And it's not so bad really. The bus looks completely different for one thing, and there are no kids on the bus - just a few elderly ladies that kindly don't say anything about his tense posture and desperate staring out the window - his way of making sure he doesn't get magically transported to Korea. So Hawkeye makes it to the dry goods store ok and buys needles and yarn and a sweater pattern he thinks would make a good Christmas present for Trapper. And if the yarn he picks out happens to be a shade that will bring out the green in Trapper's hazel eyes, that's nobody's business but his. And it's so strange to be able to just go where he wants when he wants, doing what he wants. There's no concept of AWOL or leave or something-hour passes. He's free in a way he hasn't been in three years.
To celebrate his freedom, Hawkeye buys a magazine from the news stand - something bright and splashy and full of celebrity gossip - and then sits in the sunshine on a park bench for over an hour, reading the magazine and just enjoying being outside on such a nice summer day. In a place where there are flowers and trees and mothers with strollers and laughing children. A place that has remained untouched by blood and death and war. And then Hawkeye buys himself an ice cream cone.
He makes his way home and the bus ride is less nerve wracking the second time, even though the bus is more crowded. There are a couple of young kids, though, and their shrieks of laughter make him flinch - and bite back a tense order to be quiet - the first few times but he calms down. There are no enemy patrols here. Maybe he'll eventually believe that and be as bored and indifferent towards his surroundings as the rest of the passengers. But at least for now he should be able to make it to job interviews, and hopefully soon a job, without breaking down. Still, it's a relief to get home.
--
Trapper must've accidentally mentioned Hawkeye being in Boston somewhere too near Charles Winchester - or maybe hospital gossip is just that powerful - cuz they both get invited out for drinks at some unbearably posh club in fucking Back Bay. The kinda club that wouldn't let Trapper in through the delivery entrance much less into the actual bar. But Winchester's delivery of the invitation - which had involved calling Trapper to his office right as he was about to leave for the day - had brooked no argument. So now he's gotta go break the bad news to Hawkeye. And try not to get murdered by a bunch of angry WASPs.
Fortunately, Trapper's shift both started and ended early today so he has time to go get bruised and sweaty with all the other working class louts at the boxing gym before heading home to try and make himself look respectable enough for Winchester to be seen with him. Ok, that's not quite fair. He seems like a halfway decent guy. Still an upper class prick and a showboat surgeon - but he obviously cares about all his patients the same, regardless of their background. And maybe it's just cuz he can't stomach being anything but the top cutter in the outfit, but it's better than some of the docs Trapper's gotta work with. It's just that when Winchester or any of the other docs with breeding look at him, they see dumb Paddy before they see competent Ivy League surgeon.
Trapper ain't ashamed of any part of who he is. And he knows there's times and places he's gotta keep parts of himself hidden - to keep himself safe, to blend into the various worlds he lives in. But it pisses him off that his coworkers can't look past their shallow perceptions of him and see him. That's what he loves about Hawkeye. Trapper can be his entire self around him - no hiding, no being looked over.
At least that's one positive side to this whole deal. Hawk'll be there with him. And he's wearing his new suit and it looks real good. Trapper's disappointed when the car Winchester sent arrives cuz it interrupts his, ah, appreciation. But being chauffeured around is fun - the driver's wearing honest to God livery and Trapper feels like some kinda English lord outta a novel.
Reality comes crashing back in when they get to the club and the doorman or concierge or whatever gives him a look of such curdling contempt for daring to introduce himself as Dr. John McIntyre, here on Dr. Charles Winchester's invitation. Dr. Benjamin Franklin Pierce - nice and patriotic and Anglican - gets let in with no problem and Hawkeye must go get Winchester cuz he descends on the sneering sonofabitch like a pompous tidal wave. All "Do you know who I am?" and "How dare you presume to tell me who I can and cannot entertain" and "My family has been in Back Bay for three generations" and blah blah blah. Trapper just wants to leave, wants to run as far away as he can get, but Hawkeye's hovering there behind Winchester, looking about as miserable as Trapper feels, and he can't just leave him. And eventually Winchester's tirade winds down and Trapper gets let inside and Winchester is stuffily apologetic about the whole thing. Trapper appreciates that - knows how rarely Winchester apologizes about anything - but he had to've known, he's lived in Back Bay his whole life, he had to have known.
They get their drinks at the bar and head to a secluded table. Trapper has a whiskey and it's American - cuz of course it is - but it's ok as far as it goes. He's certainly drunk worse. And Winchester has some sorta fancy cognac that probably costs more per bottle than Trapper makes in a month. And Hawkeye has a Shirley Temple.
"On the wagon again, eh Pierce? Too bad; the cognac here is almost worth drinking. But I suppose anything is better than those terrible martinis you used to swill."
Hawkeye just smiles winningly and eats the cherry out of his drink. And immediately makes a face. Apparently the Shirley Temple habit is a new one.
"I dunno about you, Hawk, but I can't drink a martini that doesn't taste like it's made with lighter fluid anymore."
Hawkeye laughs. "It's true, they go down too smooth with real gin. And besides, I remember you doing plenty of swilling over in Korea, Charles. You're still the only Swamp denizen to ever get kicked out of Rosie's three nights in a row."
"No kidding? You went to Rosie's? And I don't think I managed to get kicked out even once." Trapper puts on an exaggerated look of contrition.
"Oh yeah, Charles became a regular lush when some kid of a Captain from Tokyo -"
"Insolent upstart," Winchester interjects.
"- replaced Potter for a bit and showed us all up but good."
And then they're off, telling funny stories from Korea. Charles has a bunch that Trapper never heard about from Hawkeye and even some from when he was stationed in Tokyo that Hawk's never heard either. And he and Hawkeye tell a bunch from back before Trapper shipped home - mostly about Frank Burns, but some about Radar and Klinger and Henry Blake. There's a moment of silence while they raise a toast.
And then Winchester says, "When are you coming to work for me, Pierce? Even McIntyre found a job at Boston Mercy. Surely you don't think I would turn you away?" And suddenly the air of camaraderie is gone.
"I think I can do more good outside a big hospital, Charles." Then Hawkeye's expression turns icy. "Anyway, Trapper has to work the job he found at Boston Mercy tomorrow, so I think we ought to be going."
Winchester looks confused. Like he knows he fucked up but he's not quite sure how. "Well, we'll have to do this again sometime soon. Perhaps at a different venue?" He cuts an apologetic look toward Trapper.
"Sure. But Hawk's right, I oughtta head home for some shuteye."
They shake hands under the watchful sneer of the concierge.
"Sorry if I got you blackballed from your fancy club, Winchester."
He huffs out a sigh but looks less constipated. And Hawkeye's smile becomes less fixed. All in all, the night coulda gone worse.
--
"Thank you for doing that."
"You're welcome." Trapper's response is muffled in the join of Hawkeye's neck and shoulder. They're laying cuddled up together in bed - which has become routine - but with Trapper all curled into Hawkeye. Trapper's a little taller and a lot broader than him and Hawkeye usually likes to be held in his big, strong arms. But Trapper seems to need a little extra comfort tonight. He's not one to be self conscious, but he'd been pretty obviously out of his depth the whole evening. And Charles had said some pretty terrible things to him - unintentional as they were. And he'd endured all that for Hawkeye.
"No, I mean it. You spent an entire evening with Charles and the rest of the snobbery brigade for me and I really appreciate it."
Trapper sits up a little so he can look Hawkeye in the eye. "He's your friend - even if he won't admit to it in polite company. There hadta be something decent about him or you woulda never got to be friends. It was worth braving a bunch of Back Bay snobs, including Winchester, to get to see that side of him. And anyway, I gotta work with the guy. It makes sense to play nice." And then Trapper lays back down and he's quiet for long enough that Hawkeye thinks maybe he's fallen asleep.
But then he says, "Next time we do this, we'll just haveta take him to the seediest working class joint we can find that don't have rats." And Hawkeye wonders what the hell he did to deserve having John McIntyre in his life.

Fancy That!
So there I was, your ever-humble narrator, enjoying a pint of something kind of fancy and minding my own business in one of the most chi-chi establishments on the Smallfellow main drag when who should blunder in one but one of those schmucks from the palace where I used to run that hobo operation. Of course he wasn’t in his dopey palace livery, he had on rags practically, which, like, was pretty racist-- this is a nice bar, wine and tapas and everything, look around you buddy, everybody in here but you is a halfling and nobody here has spent less than five silver pieces on their shoes alone, what, do you think all halflings walk around barefoot and eat ten breakfasts a day and live in pastoral squalor? Get real and try educating yourself for a change.
Anyhoo, he ambles up like he’s being sneaky and slips me this envelope. I guess after Prince Whoever had his big temper tantrum last time I went to collect what he owed me (it was embarrassing for him, but even more embarrassing for Ewer-- that moron got his adam’s apple turned to apple sauce that night!) they decided to try the “subtle” approach. Still pathetic. Strictly amateur hour. So I look him in the eye and loudly say “SORRY BUDDY I’M BY ENGAGEMENT ONLY THESE DAYS. IF YOU WANT THE FRANCIS FLIEG EXPERIMENT (my new nom du stage--like it?) I’VE GOT A SET AT THE BELL & WHISTLE FROM SEVEN TO NINE EVERY DAY THIS WEEK. NO ENCORES” but then just for the sake of appearances I take a little peak inside this envelope and holy st. merriwether dear reader did I like what I saw! Never let it be said I’m too stubborn to be receptive to a sudden change of heart. So I treat the bar to a round of the second cheapest champagne the place has and say hey look I’ve got this dry sense of humor sometimes, I really think we can work out a way to do business.
So I decide to indulge in some of that old-school Francis Flisk chicanery and dine and dash just to see what this stuffed shirt does about it. Squat. Good sign-- because I feel like his boss needs me for something illegal, and in most cases dirty money’s easier to get than clean money. Anyway we wind up at this apartment not far away, right on the edge of that human neighborhood, I forget the name, where all the hip young second sons and first daughters who can’t hack it in the dynasty game go to drink expensive coffee and become priests and priestesses of that tacky fucking bank. It’s one of those digs that you know the cops or the government keeps decorated in the most blandly tasteful and lifeless way possible to use for stake-outs and deniability stuff like this.
It turns out this job is my worst nightmare. It’s extremely hard work and barely illegal. Out of the shadows steps this cop. I know the guy. He’s crooked as the road to Schockonote, pardon a folksy halfling saying, the human audiences eat that shit up and it’s become a force of habit. Caowulf Cutty. A real bastard but he’d looked the other way for me plenty of times during my days with the Handsome Lads in exchange for modest kickbacks. But now-- what the hell?-- he’s acting like he’s never met me before and he’s got me pinned to the wall with his elbow at my throat and my feet dangling in the air, calling me criminal scum and this and that. Ok, sure, like he can talk. They make like they’ve got me in some kind of sting-- like, they caught me running tundra tar or something and if I don’t do what they say I’ll blah blah blah but I’m all like, yeah? Prove it. I’m clean, pigs (I’m not). After a while we work out a deal. I’ll keep 10% of the money in that envelope and they’ll stop hassling me about this alleged tundra tar business I did/didn’t do.
It’s like this-- once in awhile when I’m really hard up I’ll do a job for this guy Salomon Six-Fingers. He has a little tavern by the docks, slings this truly appalling sodfish stew but he’s a nice guy, honest, and somehow he’s managed to make a little name for himself running jobs under the nose of the Quiet Guild without getting killed despite being nice and honest. Mostly stuff the Guild couldn’t care about or fail to make overcomplicated because of course. And people work for him because obviously the guild doesn’t get a cut.. Or because they get off on pretending to have morals or professional ethics or whatever. Anyway one of the big things people go to him for is salvage jobs. Old ruins. Humans are too stupid to go into them because they think their precious mediators will pop out and say BOO at them and they’ll piss their britches so it’s good work for us halflings if we can get it.
All this time the dipshit from the palace hasn’t said who he’s working for. Like I don’t know. It rhymes with Rinse Cranselm Brinsatsi. But what they want me to do is they’re gonna leak Six-Fingers word of a ripe little abandoned mine called Sweetroll Hill and say the only thing keeping people out of that sweet ore is the fact that the place is overrun with the infamous Handsome Lads. Ok, yeah, “infamous,” big scary halflings running around with sticks and empty quivers. But I’ll get to that in a second. A little team is assembled-- including yours truly as the thief and the guy who knows the gang, knows the mine (which, I do and do, but again-- presumptuous and racist)-- and then we go and clear it out. But here’s the tricky part. All the way there I’m making little signals, leaving a little trail, and behind me, the fuzz. And on our way out, the triumphant heroes are caught red-handed with armfuls of stolen loot and a pile of dead halflings in their wake. I get off scot-free, the suckers who know about the place are in jail where they can’t blab about the location, and the “mysterious employer” gets to swoop in and take whatever he wants down there. Which sounds like a lot of work but again they wouldn’t drop this tundra tar thing. Oh well. The mine isn’t far and it’s run by a bunch of D-listers. Big-Stud Broly, who’s no Huge Hunk Haglund to say the least, and a snot-nosed little wannabe called Leander Hawthorne. If you want to know how vast and capacious the barrel they’re scraping the bottom of is, they’ve even got a goblin in their crew. I also get to help pick the team.
So obviously I’m presented with a moral quandary. I’m picking people for what’s essentially a suicide run. This is the end of the line for them one way or the other-- if they don’t die on the job (not impossible) or when the cops get rough with them (not unlikely), then they’re headed to prison for a long time. So I think and I think loooong about who I hate enough in this business to make this whole thing really hysterical and satisfying instead of just pretty hysterical and satisfying. I come up with a wish-list:
1. Davey Driftwood: This schmuck shot me with a crossbow once when he was guarding a caravan that me and the boys were trying to get our meat mitts on. He definitely doesn’t remember this but I know he kind of remembers my face because he always gives me this little nod and smile when we’re both at Salomon’s or that little place that gnome runs by the bazaar with the good bread. Couldn’t wait to wipe that goody two-shoes smirk off his face. He’s also some local celebrity upriver in the boonies because he knocked off some nobody bandit a few years ago. Occasionally some hick recognizes him at the bar and buys him one of those watery pee beers trash humans drink. I hate humble guys like that who don’t capitalize on a good thing. And I especially hate people who get famous for doing the cops’ jobs for them and then have the nerve to act like we can still be pals. DEFINITELY on the list.
2. Bloody Bonnie: B l o o d y  F u c k i n  B o n n i e. Ever meet someone who thinks they’re funny? That’s Bonnie. Some land pirate. Dumb term and anyway gnomes invented it. Yeah yeah, gnomes and halflings, different species, and I’d rather cut my own head off than kiss a gnome, but we little guys have to stick together and I hate it when humans bite our rackets. Speaking of which, right, she thinks she’s so funny. I’ve heard all the halfling jokes before and I’ve heard them all again another three dozen times from her. Wouldn’t kick her out of bed though. Had a brief idea about tipping her off before the bust and seeing how puny she thought I was after that.
3. Paolo the Exile: First off, what a joke. Who calls themselves “the Anything.” Can’t stand that bit. Second of all, I hate dwarves. I’ve only met the one but I hate stories about dwarves and I hate Paolo. Too quiet and I don’t like anybody who won’t show their face.
4. Roxan McClintock: People call her “Flinty” but she’s a Roxan through and through. You know these guys, these McClintocks? No, that’s McBEAM idiot, I mean the McCLINTOCKS. But don’t get me started on fucking McBeam. RIght, so-- I was born poor. My dad-- Moldew-- and my ma-- Instke-- they were both poor too. They grew up in tall grass over their heads and they worked until they died from it, because they were stupid. I’m smart. I knew I had to do whatever it took to have a roof over my head, with a chandelier on it, and a bed with eight pillows on it and a girl on each. And look, I’m young, and two out of four ain’t bad! The roof doesn’t leak and the pillows ain’t too shabby themselves! But yeah-- that’s why I degrade myself with these fucking jobs. Because I need to. That’s why I crawl through the dirt and show stupid tourist humans how to get through the swamps. For the money that I DON’T. HAVE. Roxan does all this shit because she “wants to.” Because “she ain’t no high class broad.” Yeah, stick a paintbrush down my throat already. She’s all “hey y’all” and “yeehaw” but Roooooooxaaaaaaaannnn is pure Smallfellow, get it? Her dad’s a university professor, her ugly brothers are university professors, they eat caviar and pear jelly with rich humans all day and wipe their asses with silk hankies. She should know her place and marry some rich tailor and cook fiddlehead fry every night and have a million dumbshit babies who marry rich tailors and so on and so on until they fucking choke on their gold pieces and die. If she wants to bark with the big dogs so much she can go bark in the kennel.
5. Huxley Swallowtail: This guy’s just awful. Just atrocious. Big hat with a feather on it. Pantaloons with stripes. Just the worst. The worst. Opposite problem as McClintock really. He acts like he’s some Seven Fingers of Sin gentleman thief but he’s really just alley trash who made his bones breaking arms for loan sharks and beating up younger kids for their lunch money. You can’t smother trash stink with fancy cologne.
But unfortunately I can’t pick all of these clowns so I write down DAVEY DRIFTWOOD in big block letters on the top of my little sheet of paper and then I roll a dice for the other two. Paolo and Roxan it is. To make a long story short the job goes fine. It gets dicey for a minute because I’m saddled with three incompetents. McClintock makes friends with some revolting hermit and comes back waving around some magic stick and later on they tip off the entire camp somehow and wind up cowering behind boulders. But it works out fine in the end. McClintock is shipped off to Fort Stolas to crack open rocks for the rest of her life-- priceless-- and Davey gets to have his precious reputation dragged through the muck. The best part is the dwarf-- he makes this pitiful “don’t worry about me, run, I’ll hold them off” martyr complex speech and just as they put a dozen windows in his stupid body he can see his friends getting hogtied and hauled away! God I wish he didn’t wear that fucking helmet so I could see his face when he realized he died for literally nothing. Exile, right, exile from reason maybe.
For a few days I’m walking on air. I have money in my pocket, shows booked, and I get to go to sleep dreaming of  McClintock and Driftwood toiling away in their cute little prison pajamas. But then that guy the Octopus shows up at my door. I’d heard stories but the first time I met him actually was the bust at the mine. He was in charge. I didn’t like him. His face didn’t change the entire time-- just straight lines. Before I know it I’m on the ground, can’t move a finger, and he’s telling me I’m coming with him. Well, not much I can do about it. So off we go and I realize we’re rolling up to the palace. I’m terrified. I mean, I’m cooking up a dozen escape plans but I’m a little scared, I’ll admit it. In we go and I’m trying to play it cool and he shoves me in this huge room with a fireplace and portraits of rich humans who look like they have permanent constipation and holy moley it’s the prince himself! Again. The first time I was kind of in awe of him. He knew how to run a good racket. But this time-- well…. I don’t know. On the one hand… I was scared. He didn’t… look right. Something lifeless about him. About his eyes. And that tiara or whatever, which, and I mean I didn’t get a good look, but looked like it was made for an elf head or an especially fat gnome head, it was… on him. Let me back up. It was on him but it shouldn’t have been. It shouldn’t have fit. It… there wasn’t blood but… I don’t… I can’t explain it. I… I was shaking, friend. But on the other hand it was kind of sad. This wasn’t the guy I’d seen knock the smirk right off of Elias Ewer’s face. This was somebody who didn’t know where he was going. You get a sense for that kind of thing in the circles I used to run in. People taking stupid risks and picking pointless fights because they’re just running out their time on this stupid planet and are trying to speed up the process. That was him. He looked exhausted.
But, you know, I tipped back over into scared pretty damn quick because-- oh, hey, this is off the record, right? Ok, good. Right. I tipped back over into scared pretty quick because he bares his teeth just like a dog and he’s on me with a fancy saber, just bludgeoning away with the pommel. I’m on my back with the first hit, because I’m fucking shocked, and then he’s got his legs on either side of me just going to town. I’m-- I’m blubbering like a baby, trying to wave my hands, say no no, get off me, and he’s got me by the lapels slamming me into the floor saying “Leave the McClintocks out of this, leave the McClintocks out of this, you filth, you worm, do not touch them, do not bring them into this” or something like that. Which-- what? Really? They’re well-off by halfling standards but what does he care about a pack of three foot tall hypernerds? But one way or the other he’s practically foaming. It takes that scrawny bodyguard of his to pull him off me. The guy dusts me off himself and walks me outside. He apologizes! He apologizes right to my face. I forget what I say. I don’t remember the rest of the night really. I got drunk. I got really really drunk.
But now he’s dead. Funny how that happens to people who cross me. And McClintock’s out of jail. Look, I can’t get revenge on the prince, because the idiot got to himself first. But when you mess with me and there’s something important to you, I’m going to do what I can to break that thing. And when you’re giving me a concussion while drooling some nobody poser’s name into my face, I don’t forget that name. And she’s not gonna forget mine.

For example, my town has a completely pointless ordinance in which their residents are not allowed to park their cars in the street between the hours of 2 AM and 6 AM, unless you call the police that night and let them know that your car will be in the street, and then they'll just ignore your car if they see it. Well, I decided to rebel and not call last night, so, I wake up this morning to find a nice (still cheap, luckily) ticket on my window. I didn't call because I have gotten away with it each time before, so I figured maybe they don't check my neighborhood. Go figure. But I just don't want my insurance going up because of this and I'm not sure if all tickets are sent to the insurance company. Thanks in advance!""

Car insurance is thrice than payment! Suggestions?
Hi, I have recently moved in Detroit midtown, and am thinking of buying a vehicle. I am looking at buying a Ford Fusion 2008 model with around 8K. However, every insurance quote (comprehensive) I have got so far is around $300 per month. Some have asked as much as $600. I am an immigrant who came to the US three years ago and so obviously do not have a long driving record. This is my first car. I do not have any driving tickets or violations. I am looking to use finance as my credit scores are good. Any body help me with some advice on this? Why on earth the car insurance would be thrice than the car payment?""

Car insurance for husband and wife.?
Recently I went to insure my daughter and her car in the company me and my wife have been insured for some time. I wanted to include myself in her insurance but it went up in premiums a lot and we decided to insure her without me as an additional driver. Before that (last year to be exact) I insured my wife and I was included as a second driver. Basically, I was advised to do so on the basis that it would be cheaper. I heard about this option before and therefore did not check it properly with this company. This time (with my daughter) this option went an opposite way with higher premiums, so I asked them whether I can exclude myself from my wife's insurance as well because my insurance allows me to drive any car, but was told: ...because you are husband and wife, by law you cannot drive her car without being included in her insurance policy whatsoever... I am suspicious about this statement now and feel that I am being cheated. Does anybody know whether this rule exist or is it just the usual salesmen lie? Thank you.""

How do you adjust a W2 form for group term life insurance?
I'm working on a project for a payroll class. Our company provides group term life insurance to the employees. The group insurance is carried at 1.5x the annual earnings of the employee. The employee pays $.30 for every $1,000 in group life insurance each month to pay the premium. The remaining premium is paid by the employer and debited from an insurance expense account. The whole project, we haven't made any employer premium expense entries. We've only focused on the employee's entries and the credits into the group insurance premiums collected liability account for said deductions. Now, at the end of the year, preparing the W2 forms, I'm at a loss for how to treat this. Is the amount over $50,000 added to the wages, tips and compensation for the income tax paid on it? I've read through the W2 instructions but I just don't understand it that well if someone could explain it.""
Stolen car question about police & insurance company?

The insurance company asked me questions while recording part of the session and asked for my personal cell phone records as part of the investigation. Can I refuse such a request. somehow it’s better this way I don’t feel as cold as I want to really I want to be buried in snow so the horizon is quiet and echoes
there was some kind of party out there maybe just a dinner on Fridays my neighbourhood smells of butter and garlic
I won’t escape the time I saw the neighbours houses clip into each other my dog still snores like a human
who else is writing poems as I write the words that make up the words blah blah I’m failing myself found my charger though
what a load of steel and iron that’s what they’re loadin’ at the harbour it’s quiet though the middle midnight call has waiting until it’s impossible again and again and again and again and
writing what you know comes in little waves I still hear the ocean and when skies were grey I missed that sound I am a puffed up red breasted bird waiting for a tidal wave or a butterfly
weather it’s the thought that counts then I ask myself how am I talking directly to you, rn? I suppose it’s a lot of language and subconscious dance halls and livery and lovery
gonna just yeah ok hm ok yeah uh huh ok my dog is always a puppy and she snores like a human but she just snorted
this whole thing isn’t a poem but it is, kinda but it’s too autobiographical that I would want it to be but, ah, bless abstraction the school of thought I’m hungry but I’m not
