Plant of the Day
Wednesday 8 May 2024
In this exotic foliage garden the Fatsia japonica 'Tsumugi-shibori' (Japanese aralia 'Spider's Web', false castor oil plant) provides interest even in the winter. This evergreen shrub has dark-green leaves heavily-speckled with white, particularly at the edges, but the white variegation can sometimes spread across the whole leaf.

June Garden Floral Surprises In Central Florida
I live in Central Florida, growing zone 9B which is semi-tropical. Amaryllis is a subtropical bulb that belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is native to South Africa. It is grown as a potted plant in most parts of the United States but can also be grown outdoors year round in warm areas like Florida. Amaryllis sold at Christmas are FORCED bulbs.

Early spring in the garden was my absolute favourite this year 💕 although I live in the sub tropics, my garden was transformed into a cottagecore dream 😍
Pictured
+ Chinese Broccoli
+ French breakfast raddish
+ Cosmos
+ Yakumo snowpea and shelling peas
+ Self seeded tomatoes (variety unknown)
+ Jalepeño
In addition to those I had some Kale, brightlights silverbeet, parsley, corriander, dill, marigolds, poppies, Carrots, beets, zinnia, Zucchini, wombok and a few others I've most likely forgotten.
The summer heat is now here, everything is going to seed and the garden is looking extremely sparse, I cannot wait for the lushness to return. 😍 until then I have plenty of summer seeds to sew, hopefully they make it through these hot humid days 🙏🏼
Happy gardening 🥰

My friend sent this link to me! It's really interesting on the principles of syntropic food farming, similar to food forest concepts. The aims are to improve biodiversity and maximise qualities of different plants in synchrony to best effect. I'll read up more later and write up more of an essay, but for now, this video is super interesting!
