was having a conversation about how i detest those subscription boxes that send you “personalized” “curated” cosmetics “tailored” to your hair or skin or whatever and my coworker agreed they’re terrible for the environment and just manipulative marketing in general but then i dared to add that cosmetics are 90% bullshit bad-for-the-environment manipulative marketing anyway and she literally said “hold on now”

Would you mind elaborating on what you disliked about Raya? I haven't seen it so I don't have an opinion either way.
Hi Anon, The last week was rather busy with offline work, reorganizing due to the big C-situation, and had little energy left for exlaborated text, so I'm sorry to have kept you waiting for something that's nothing but an answer in form of a long rant. >.< Keep in mind, art requires craft but lack of craft or others disliking it is not a criterai for your personal enjoyment.
Short answer: It was an overproduced horrible mess of a plot, uncreative storybeats, wth undercooked characters, just milking the viewer by using SEA-mythology as window dresseing and the Disney brand. Total waste of time If I want to watch a SEA-movie I rather watch a Tran Anh Hung movie or Bad Genius, and not delude myself Disney actually would actually be progressive. This movie popped up in my mind when I talked with a friend about movies and art critique, making me realize how deeply it negatively impressed me. I will put my thoughts under the cut because I have many (angry) thoughts about the movie in many of it's aspects, and as usual keeping my answers short isn't my strong suit.
Costs: One criticism would be linked to the Disney in the scheme of business practices. In short: You could watch the movie included in your monthly Disney+ subscripton n June whereas you can only watch the equivalent of box office time for 30$ on top of the subscription. Thing is, I see in no way how any movie, no matter the quality, could justify such a high price for streaming. Even in a regular theater including a full drink, snack, popcorn on top of a ticket I wouldn't pay a total price of almost 40$ (Regular Disney+ subscription and the movie). Even more so when Disney doesn't provide the comfort of a movie theater, snacks, popcorn, ad a drink, but only a movie on the screen I stared at and room I sat in during the entire duration of Corona. (Here are some more elaborate grievances of mine.) And for any argument saiyng movies like "Raya" (whatever movies like these are supposed to be) will only published more if many people pay this exorbitant price; This is a general grievance I have with the way Disney is talked about and US-/Western-Hollywood-centrism acting as if this creative industry has a monopoly of pushing progressive presentation instead of supporting smaller creators or actually diversify their artistic enjoyment in foreign, non-US-media instead of inaccurate window dressing for the big screen, asing for more money, but I digress....
The movie itself
The shiny surface: Many ideas featuring in Raya sound interesting to me on paper. SEA mythology is a fresh fantasy setting in the West, a butch antagonist antagonist-to-friends (maybe even some more), and dragons (well okay, I'm easy to buy with dragons) sound like cool ideas. But the execution of every single plotbeat was done on such a lowquality exceutive level, mimicking a typical function, that the lack of craft ultimately harmed the story overall for me. It felt like a sticker album of ideas, a rough first draft in need or trimming, refinement of tone and pacing, and not like a consistent finished movie. For a studio which has this many fiscal, personel, and creative ressources hoenstly wonder where all the budget went into. Ultimately, the biggest arguments for Raya would the SEA-setting, and the fact the entire noise around a female protagonist combating a female antagonist with a enemies-reconciliation-storyline. Still, they're irrelevant. Let me explain. SEA-diaspora, and SEA-Disney fans being happy being depicited (positively, outiside of the Vietnam War or the throwaway spa holiday location) by a studio with such wide media reach is not insignificant for them and media landscape. Raya is game changer of potential creative influx, and that should not be talked away. That doesn't make the movie a masterpiece but highly significant, especially for the SEA diaspora community. Still the issues of Kelly-Marie Tran being the only SEA voice actress whereas the rest is East Asian remain, and from all the inaccuracies, bending to outer wishes in Mulan (2020), Moana still being told in a typical Western storystructure, firing the only Maori-creative from the team, Aladin life action having no Arabic creative staff members should tell about everything how Disney plays more into the opportunity to use mythologies of diaspora-groups as bonus selling point for an audience increasingly aware of disproportional media presentation rather than actually caring of proper representation. All to say, Disney creation can mean a lot people, it can mean a lot to you although we should be careful to not give them too much credit on good intentions or actually caring... Now to Raya and Naamari, the female protaginist and antagonist. I will get deeper into the segment about story and characters into what's bothering me, so let's keep it with me thinking a lot of hype around them is canon being used as canvas of projection. I get it, they've the sissling shipping-potential of same sex characters being intertwined by intense emotions of animosity, Namaari having a rather unique female body design for mainstream media and Disney. And yes, I get why people ship them Kelly-Marie Tran's sweet in being so positive for shippers of Ray/amari but that won't change that Disney remains a no-homo-zone. Just the movie was void of any actual deep relationship, not a friendship, at very least a romantic one. Disney remains a no-homo-zone, even more when considering the treatment of Noelle Stevenson's scrapped project. In short, Disney's paid way too much lipservice for things barely existing, window dressing which in another creation would be called loudly for "inaccuracies" and "baiting". When looking behind the looks, there's little subtance.
Animation and character design: (This is more of an artistic argument so fele free to skip)"It looks so good!" Of course it fucking does. Disney's money reserves are a bottomless, of course the movie looks good, they've good no fiscal restriction any other studio has. But the animation is kinda meh. Okay, what do I mean by that? Okay, this is more a Animation isn't cheap to create, and usually used to depcit a story in a styized world, creating visions, characters, and motions which are hard to impossible to do physically. Animation can be expressive as well as creative in a way life acting could never be, therefore being innovative. Old Disney in times of Walt Disney acually was groundbreaking in means to create new animation techniques, exploring new means to explore how animation can heighten emotion. At the time Disney's animated brand created the public perceptions of animation being a kid's medium (which it very much isn't), perhaps also for crude adult sitcoms, in the US. The thing is, Disney's current animation style is only cartoon faces with hyperrealsitic texture. When people say how realsitic their water looks, I feel incredibly irritated because Disney and their audience miss the entire point of the movie being animated. Why spend millions of dollars on making water look realistic when the entire point of animation is stylisation and an unreal environment?! Why don't you make it all realistic. The entire life action wave is as much a cashcrab as it is a misunderstanding how the animated movies the life action remakes are based on conveyed story and emotions through the unique way of animation. Actual animation of motion is functional's okay but boy did I loose it at the fight scenes. Credit to be given, they did their research for different combat styles, otherwise the fight scenes were mediocre. The environment was open for free range of maneuvers, the cheoreography didn't flow as some maneuvers took too slowly to build up while the other comabtant barely moved to preact a counter or offense. Especially the final fight between Namaari and Raya made me scratch my head again as the bodies moved sluggishly stepping forward, without any fancy creative moves to take out the opponent. In other words, there was no real weight or variation or impact feeling but swords flashing or fists hitting. The fight scenes aren't a relevant argument in the grand scheme yet again for such a high budget I'm wondering where it was actually spent when not polishing the final work. I had to think about "Sword of the Stranger which had a simple sword duel at the climax yet the movements where fast, the characters always in motion, produced with not even a tenth of Raya's budget. Okay, the rest of the character design is pretty ok to good. As I said, Namaari's butch character design's rather unusual for mainstream and Disney in general which was a postive for me. BUT Sisu....! Boy, I'm not the first to complain about her having Elsa's big cartoon face plastered on a body that looks like a cotton my Little pony, compared to the fantastic more Naga-like concept design. Problem was, all the other dragons looked exactly like her, except for different horns and colours. Apparently the animators had too little time or motivation to vary in design (I get it animation isn't easy, even if Disney coud a ten times afford to raise every single animator's salary, dental insurance included) but boy did that design haunt me inn my sleep. A mix between lazy and uncanny. Yeah we can argue about stylisation, "kid friendly design" for which I would argue Mushu and the dragon from Shrek didn't need to have an Elsa-face to appeal to kids AND still look like dragons.
Plot: Okay, here I'm highly likely to get rnadom and splotchy, so was the plot. It was in one word inconsistent. Many people joked how Raya was Disney's A: tlA which is true by the basic setting of different countries needing unity, also pointing out a massive lack of creativity. The plot wants to set up a big fantasy setting, dragon mythology. In itself not a boring premise but it's too much for a time limited movie with Raya's kid backstory, cramming in five sidekicks, and a main enemy conflict, a theme of trust. a) Premise: Disney can be innovative, trying to escape from it's brand of fantasy musicals like the 2000s adventure stories Atlantis or Lilo and Stitch proved. Issue with the "we fight demon plot is" is not it's unoriginality, stories do not have to be original but well told to be effecive, but needs a lot of setting establishment and backstory stll leaving out a lot of mechanism. The main enemy demonic forces are just black clouds, turning people into stones. Ah, and for some reason they don't like water. Their inner workings are still unknown, in a dialogue their origin is referenced to be lined to bad things humans do but it's all too vague. Somehow Dragon powers make them dissapear, these being manifested in a magical crystal stone. Spoilers: In the end the suddely dissapear just because the ain characters trust the main antagonist to not be a treacherous asshole, and that makes all demons dissappear and all dragons come back. Ok... So the solution was somehow in the characters all along?? How does the inner logic of the world work, weakly linked to the theme?
 b) Theme: Maybe US-media and kid's media tend to not be subtle, that's no invitation to hit the viewer repeatedly bas the viewer with with a theme.skipole, though. Just because the word "trust" is repeated over and over doesn't make the story revolve about actual trust. The dialogue between Raya and Sisu always works in an obstuse manner of "you can't trust anyone" and Sisu answering "but trust is good!", whereas the entire movie Raya's distrust is proven right as everyone betrays, hunts, or tricks others to get a piece of the dragon gem. Even at the end the antagonist, Namaari, proves that she can't be trusted because she kills the dragon Sisu, Raya tryign to stop Namaari swinging her sword at Namaari while Namaari further and further pulls the finger at the crossbow directed at Sisu. In consequence otal dark-cloud chaos breaks out, Raya and Namaari fight (why are they even fighting when everything crumbles for the sake of a flashy fight scene I guess?). Namaari accuses Raya of being equally at fault for killing Sisu because she didn't trust Namaari. So somehow Raya's distrust is at faut for Namaari killing Sisu? That's not what hapened. Raya being untrsuting is always proven correct by every betrayl in the story. So whatever theme the movie wanted to convey was displayed by plainfully bad dialogue and actions never supporting trust to be postive. c) Dialogue: Speaking of painful dialogue... It was on a flat level of either exposition of plot or plattudes, or simple snark. I know, in a meta text Disney wants to groove on the cool girl wave, thinking girls are cool when they speak like sassy adults in comba video games which was kinds palatable for main-story Raya but not when meeting her at her kid age. Not kidding, her as a child befriending Namaari goes literally, not paraphrasing with the dialogue "so we both are dragon girls, have parents who make bad jokes" as kind of basis of the main characters communicating with each other to signal that they'd a basis to bond... oof! Well, some complaints went around how Sisu makes jokes tied to contemporary popculture which would age quickly, and I totally agree. The worst instances are when Sisu gets a new part of the dragon gem she gets a new magic power (mist and glowing are magical powers, ok), she only says "that was my sibling's x power" and that's her done talking about the fact she got a new power like a comment for a new status gained for a new power level. Concernig the overall tone, the plot exposition was conveyed with a sarcastic "yeah we know the cliché, let's not take this epic fantas too serously" which hinders a proper shift for chracters who either before were nothing but comic relief or snark, suddeny talkig how sad they're about their families being gone. Disney is metatextually busy to divorce itself from it's heritage brand of fairy musicalsin jokes, and "subversive tropes" driving the plot", it becomes insincere. Just because it's fun to mock the formula doesn't mean it's without creativty and beauty. People still love the Renaissance movies not in spite but because of the kitsch, it's still beautiful to look at, and moving. That doesn't mean Disney has to be all musical again or can't update it's narratives for different stores for gils but romance only, it's just embarassing when the plot is more occupied with stressing how much it's not a fair tale-musical when still having a fantasy plot. That worked for Shrek as the plot revolved poking fun but also dismanteling too one-sided fantasy narratives for pretty people only. When the plot tries to be an ovious-trope-subversion and an entirely different story at the same time, the sardonic tone hurts the sincerity. Maybe I'm too preoccupied with the meta-reading, and make a personal dislike into a too big thing, still it bothers me a great deal at latest since Moana or Ralph breaks the internet when the Princesses re-use all the "jokes" about the treatment already used and recycled by Disney_conaisseur_critic_9000 on Youtube who's a channel with "Clichés in movies are prohibited *ding*"- videos who can't deal the fact that fairy tales aren't meant to be literal. -.-
Charakters Oh boy, oh boy, the dialogue is the conveyer and symptom of characters. When all the characters can only be snarky, cardboard comedians, and deliverer of platitudes, what does this make them? bad characters. Raya is okay, your sarcastic warrior girl with angst to save the world but she's constantly snarky about how cliché all is. Disney gets to try the model "strong independant woman who's strong because she kicks ass, rawr" for themselves, hurray... The rest of he characters aren't worth mentioning because she gets side kicks who talk in jokes or slapstick humor. Ah yes, the bulgar baby we see in the trailer. Apart from it being weirdly over-competent (if you like dit or not is dependant on personal preferences), it's just another side kick to all the other sidekicks, and too much time and animation spent on Raya chasing it. Sisu is also another, more plot-relevant, comic character with soon old jokes who's ony position in the plot is to repeat how trusting is good acually. Well, I can't say more baout her but her ebing a dragon and being a relevant plot device against the demon clouds. Okay, now to Namaari. As said before, her butch character design is enerally unsual, and refreshing. This and her role as warrior antagonist had so much potential. Quickly, to get soe background buzz out of the way. People ship her with Raya as they're enemies to friends, such close plot entaglemment between two characters being great shipping potential totally get why people ship it. And I would to - if Raya and Namaari had anything more goign on than just saiyng how much they dislike each other but otherwise havin no meaningful conenction. I guess people like to dellude themselves, while complaining about the quickest glances of LGTBQA+ representation being not even the bare minimum (the missable background lesbian kiss in SW, or from all people LeFou being gay in the BatB remake *rolls eyes), they like to praise not even existing crumbs. this is m grievance with fandom giving and reading much more into canon than canon actually gives them, and yes, I think it is a problem to recycle a fabricated, reaching narrative. Like #giveElsaagf just because Elsa talked to one girl not being her sister doesn't actually mean this was a subtle hint of her sexuality. This was just Elsa talking to a non-relative, and Disney knowing this would suffice to get simmering voices boiling. Sorry, jaded bi here, I rather watch or the Handmaiden ten times over and over again for actual LGBTQA+ characters than to have to suffer through the cashgrab mess of Frozen IIfor wost written Disney princess Elsa speaking to a non-related female beliving I was robbed of #Elsa's Gridlfriend. That brings me to Ra/maari. Fans create great material out of it. Still, there's nothing canon actually gives that indicates it could be any deeper because it was never deep to begin with. So, Namaari and Raya meet as children and get friends over them beign fans of Sisu with the horribe linne "I'm kind of a dragon nerd too" (the literal dialogue...!), and listing what they've in common (that's the depth their conversation has), know each other for at best five hours before Namaari uses Raya to steal the dragon gem for her kingdom. Somehow this at-best-five-hour-long-friendship is the source of all of Raya's distrust. Ok. The plot jumps forward 6 years, for some reason Namaari chases Raya (?), they insult each other. When it becomes clear Raya collects dragon gems, Namaari fights Raya while snarking. Their relation to each other commulate to Raya trying to trust Namaari, as Sisu suggested, Namaari kills Raya but for some reason tells Raya it was Rayas fault she killed Sisu (????). The finale comes when Raya voluntarily turnes into stone (so do her sidekicks), trust Namaari to not run away with the gem stones. Namaari's not an asshole, turns into stone to so suddenly the demon's disappear, Raya's happy. Thing is, the characters and their actions just happen with no meat or motivation but just needing to have fights and plot happening. Their interaction happens but with nothign but snarky insults, and no depth. It's frustrating how supposedly Raya and Namaari's conflict should drive the plot yet their action have no logic action-reaction or just plot-needed change of mind.
Rant over. The movie was a mess, unfnished, a sticker album of ideas. Cool setting, I give it that but that's the best I can say about the movie. Which costs 30$ on top of a Disney+ subscripton. (Which I totally did, and I surely, totally did not watch for free at a pirating website because I totally think it's important to pay a too high price at a billio dollar media kraken.) When the credits roll, and you see eight (EIGHT!) names under the script writing department the issue of inconsistent plot and too many ideas at once become glaringly apparent.

FairyLoot: February ‘Emperors & Fugitives’ Box
Okay, so if you don’t know what a book subscription box then;
Where have you been?
Check out my blog post about them HERE. (I really need to update this…)
FairyLoot is another big Book Subscription service.  The way I see it is it’s the UK’s equivalent of the US’s OwlCrate.  I’ve ordered one of their boxes in the past (you can read the review HERE) but I made that order as a single purchase and haven’t been able to secure a place as a subscriber since.  BUT I FINALLY DID IT, managing to get a place as a subscriber for this company is part of the reason I’ve decided to give Owlcrate a break (among other more significant reasons).  I loved the box I ordered way back then and I’ve loved most of the boxes I’ve seen since then.  I researched what book would be included in this box since I like to do this and I had never heard of it but was intrigued immediately. So without further ado lets get into the unboxing/review.
Okay, so way back when I first ordered this box it wasn’t that strong.  It worked well, but the cardboard was a little weak, it may just be my imagination but the box is sturdier now.  I could be imagining that but yeah.  I still love the logo for this company.
Something cool about FairyLoot’s boxes is the quote they include on the boxes (I think they sometimes change it up) but it’s just a cute little extra touch that shows an extra level of care that’s been put into creating this product.  I also really love the fact that they have a colour scheme of purple (the packing worms are purple and as you’ll see in March’s review it carries through).
“Fairy tales are more than true: not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” – Neil Gaiman, Coraline
I like this introduction/information card art, the other side is nicer (I’ll include it at the end) – it does fit with the theme and it can be used as an art piece.  But I just don’t really like the picture itself (meaning the art is good but it isn’t a design I would put up). The information side is clear, descriptive and quite frankly, beautiful.
So first thing I found in the purple packing worms was this full size candle created by Happy Piranha.  It’s called Kalusian Sunset and was named by February’s featured books author. I don’t know what the scent it, it smells a bit florally – I love the smell but think I can only have it in small doses. It actually had melted in transit and I was so worried it had melted throughout my box, thankfully it had not.  I also love the designs on the candle, both the wrap around and lid.
Next up, sticking to the scented things, we have this Celestial Gunpowder bath bomb by Bathing Beauties.  I think the description is cute, “If you’re on the run through the galaxy, you’re going to need a Celestial Gunpowder Bath Bomb to keep you squeaky clean.  Okay, maybe not, but it might help make the whole ‘on-the-run’ thing better, right?” It’s cupcake scented, which I am all for, and was made exclusively for this box.
Now this is possibly the coolest item included in this box; a Baby Groot bobble head keychain by Funko.  Even if you don’t like superhero movies, or specifically Guardians of the Galaxy, no one can say they don’t love Baby Groot.  He’s possibly the best Marvel character on screen at the moment. He lives happily on my Percy Jackson keychain.  I love him, he’s so cute!
A more practical item, this Illuminae quote coaster by Read At Midnight was included and I love it.  It’s really sturdy, an actual coaster, and is really pretty.
“She is catalyst. She is chaos. I can see why he loves her.”
Up next we have a sampler for The One Memory of Flora Banks by Emily Barr.  I couldn’t get a photograph of it but this was an accordion sampler ant it was just really cool.  It sounds really interesting – similar to The Memory Book by Lara Avery- and heartbreaking.
Up next we have a bookmark by Till and Dill.  I don’t really care for this bookmark and I’ve put it in my ‘guests take a bookmark pile’ so someone else can appreciate it.
Something I’m really excited about; a discount code for MyBookmark – I love their bookmarks.  They’re 3D and poke out at the ends of your books, like feet!  But they’re really expensive, especially with shipping to Australia, so I can only get them when I have a discount code (it’s how I got my first one).
Next up we’ve got this double sided Throne of Glass print by Taratjah.  One side has Dorian, the other had Manon.  I actually haven’t read the Throne of Glass series (I read the first two/three) but I really liked the picture of Dorian so I put that up on the back of my bedroom door.
The last item before the book is this cute little canvas pouch with a quote from rebel of the Sands on it, it was designed by Alisse Courtier.  It’s the perfect size to hold all my USB’s and SD cards!
  And now for the book…
Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza. I hadn’t heard anything about this title before FairyLoot announced their theme and I researched what book would fit with it, and I’m glad it ended up on my radar. It sounds like a great sci0fi adventure and I think it’ll be a great read.
CROWN PRINCESS RHIANNON TA’AN WANTS VENGEANCE.
The only surviving heir to an ancient Kalusian dynasty, RHEE has spent her life training to destroy the people who killed her family. Now, on the eve of her coronation, the time has finally come for Rhee to claim her throne – and her revenge.
ALYOSHA is a Wraetan who has risen above his war refugee origins to find fame as the dashing star of a DroneVision show. Despite his popularity, Aly struggles with anti-Wraetan prejudices and the pressure of being perfect in the public eye.
Their paths collide with one brutal act of violence: Rhee is attacked, barely escaping with her life. Aly is blamed for her presumed murder.
The princess and her accused killer are forced to go into hiding – even as a war between planets is waged in Rhee’s name. But soon, Rhee and Aly discover that the assassination attempt is just one part of a sinister plot. Bound together by an evil that only they can stop, the two fugitives must join forces to save the galaxy.
In this exhilarating debut for fans of Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and Pierce Brown’s Red Rising trilogy, RHODA BELLEZA crafts a powerful saga of vengeance, warfare, and the true meaning of legacy.
The book and the items included with it came in a cute little dust bag with the FairyLoot symbol on it.  I didn’t know they did this but I think it’s such a cool thing to do.  Kind of like wrapping the book to keep the element of surprise but you get to keep the bag!
Something FairyLoot does is include a mini magazine that features an interview with the author, books to read after you’ve read Empress of a Thousand Skies and the next month’s theme (which for March is Myths and Monsters, it’s their one year anniversary box so it’ll be purple and just full of amazingness!).  I like this as it allows the reader to really connect with the author, FairyLoot also include a letter from their authors so it’s like double the awesomeness!
To my dearest, fiercest Fairylooters: Excuse the mushiness, but it absolutely has to be said: it means the world to me you’re reading this. I wrote Rhee and Aly because I’d always come back to this theme of expectation.  Our skin color, perceived gender and age, a million other things – they feed into expectations everyone else had, and as a young person it had been so easy for me to adopt this as truth.  To let someone else define my identity, to tell me who I was supposed to be.  That external pressure was key, in a way.  I’d felt this immense, impossible heat bearing down – so that the only way to survive was to form on my own terms.  Like that gem of truth was always in my DNA.  Aly and Rhee are different expressions of that idea.  And while they’re in a faraway galaxy, surrounded by advanced tech with an interplanetary war as a backdrop, they’re both trying to survive – in body, mind and spirit – and find their own truth.  I hope this speaks to you.  Ad at the very least, I hope you like the fight scenes. :)
And of course a signed bookplate!
  Final Thoughts:
I really liked this box, in fact I loved it. It was filled with SO MUCH and it fit all the expectations I’ve developed about what I expect from a YA book subscription service.  Everything was of a high quality, fit perfectly with the theme and was something I have used or can see myself ctually using.  I’m really impressed with this box and I’m glad I was able to secure a subscription so I can see what other amazing products they include in future boxes!

Holiday Box
Tumblr media
December was Kizuna box’s winter holiday box. Much like the nekobox, I forgot the pamphlet for this box upstairs as well. Moreover I’m late, again. I seem to be failing left and right (especially because I still have to review the kizuna January box as well..Hang with me,.. I’ll get there eventually. For now, please enjoy the kizuna december box.
Tumblr media
So first is a little post card that wishes all of the kizuna box subscribers a happy 2018. I love when Kizuna box includes things like this in their boxes cause it just makes everything seem more close knit, and friend/family like. We also have some stickers. I think there were multiple types that you could receive. I got Daruma (which I love and have already found a place in my planner.)

Next I had this Cat notepad! I realized after looking at the pamphlet that this wasn’t just a normal part of the box! Yeah I was delayed in seeing the note posted on the back of it. guys! this was my 6th box with nekobox! I also found it super sweet of them to give me a special little gift for it, their kind words made it a worthy celebration and I hope to have many more months with you all!
Tumblr media
Daruma! Sorry, I’m just really excited! if you know me, you know that my luck isn’t particularly the best around. Because of this I have a love for japanese good luck charms like manekineko and the daruma. Before receiving this, I had 3 others that I had previously purchased from the nekobox shop, but I was still super excited and happy to receive another. With Daruma, you color in one eye when making a wish or goal, and the other eye doesn’t get colored in until your wish/goal is established.

The december box’s cloth is a furushiki cloth. This particular one shows the image of a snowy field with snowflakes falling, and a little snow rabbit in the corner. But my favorite part if the only color on the cloth (aside from the edging) and thats the tree with bright red and white flowers.

These are the snacks that they include in each months box. This months are types of rice crackers! They were Very yummy, but due to not having the pamphlet, I can’t even tell you what flavors. One had shrimp! I remember that much. I’m so sorry for failing.
Tumblr media
Next we have a winter/holiday greeting card. There were multiple cards that you could have gotten; Mine appears to have a japanese temple and tiny little santas all around the front of it. This card is so beautiful. I know its meant to be sent, but honestly I’m going to be putting it in my scrapbook so that I don’t have to part with it.
Tumblr media
The final item in the box I saved for last as it is meant to be the star of the box, I believe. Its a sake set! Now I don’t drink, and I havent ever, but I love how beautiful japanese sake bottles and sets are. I have this one set up on one of my shelves as decoration. It’s so pretty, I’m not sure my picture shows it quite right, but there are small groves in it and the bottle has indents to make it easier to hold and pour.
Tumblr media
And there you have it. The kizuna december box! I hope you enjoyed reading and viewing it as much as I did when receiving it. I am still subscribed to kizuna box, and I just have to say that it was a very hard choice. It doesn’t mean that I liked it better than nekobox, I actually loved them both for their own reasons. It honestly came down to my inability to make a choice and so i wrote them down put them in a hat and picked. Due to this years savings, I had to drop a subbox that way I would actually have an extra $50 a month. I’m glad to have at least one box now, this way I still get my japan fix, and the happiness keeps coming. Thank you kizuna box for the smile your subscripton box gives me every month.
If you havent yet, please do subscribe. These sub boxes only exist because we order them. without us, they wouldn’t be here and to think that they wouldn’t be is a really sad thought.
