WHILE I’M AT IT, this doesn’t mean no female character must show emotions in videogames, or in media in general - ESPECIALLY after a traumatic experience! what i’m saying is that it doesnt take just a videogame developer going “oh she grew up and now she’s stronk” to make me believe a character actually learns and grows from her bad experiences.
garnet from ffix remains timid and feminine when needed, but she understands that she must learn to fight back. mae from nitw had a TERRIBLY traumatic experience, but decides to take the situation in her hands and accept that even if life sucks she WILL fight through it and come out victorious. hell, lara in AoD goes from a deattached, hurt woman to someone who openly refuses to stay there and accept defeat, or just take revenge on the world and take over it. despite her trauma, she wants her old friend to have peace - and just because of that she finds peace herself.
it’s so easy for male characters to actually go through trauma and grow as characters, why the FUCK the trend with female main characters lately is just “oh it’s more realistic if she’s hurt”. like fuck off i don’t want to play a game about exploring tombs because it needs to be realistic. i want the adventure and the fun, not to cringe in pain and defeat whenever my character cries out for every single step she makes.
