The Minnesota Twins made the long trek up to Dunedin to square off with the Blue Jays on St. Patrick's Day. The Twins were ready from the start as Brooks Lee smacked a Yariel Rodriguez offering out to right for a solo homer in the first inning. The Blue Jays answered right away as Bo Bichette lined a one-out single to left in the bottom of the first. He reached second on a wild pitch and Vladimir Guerrero plated him with a base hit to right. This tied the game at one after an inning of play. The Blue Jays jumped ahead in the second when Kevin Kiermaier belted a Daniel Duarte fastball out to right-center for a solo homer. Toronto took a 2-1 lead after two innings of play. The Twins would get back to work in the third with a Eddie Julien walk. Brooks Lee followed with a triple down the right field line, which tied the game at two. The next batter, Alex Kirilloff lined a triple of his own to put the Twins back on top. Trevor Larnach kept the inning alive with a walk and Jose Miranda hit an RBI single to center. The Blue Jays would bounce right back in the fifth as Kody Funderburk walked the first two batters. George Springer smoked a Hobie Harris fastball out to left for a three-run homer to put Toronto up 5-4. Kevin Kiermaier added another run in the sixth when he belted a Caleb Boushely pitch out to left for a solo homer. The Jays continued to add on in the seventh with a Payton Henry two-out single. Gabriel Martinez doubled him home and the Toronto lead grew to three. Steward Berroa followed with a run-scoring single to right and Tanner Morris did the same. The Jays extended their lead to five after seven frames. Eric Pardinho tosses two scoreless innings as the Jays picked up the win today.
-Final Thoughts- Daniel Duarte got knocked around this afternoon. He gave up two runs on three hits and recorded five outs. Jorge Alcala fanned three and retired four batters. Kody Funderburk struck out the side then gave up two runs when he went out for his second inning of work. Hobie Harris gave up a run in the fifth. Caleb Boushely got knocked around and gave up four runs on six hits with three strikeouts over 1 2/3 innings of work. John Stankiewicz got out of the seventh Caleb Boushely returned and threw a scoreless eighth. Brooks Lee had two hits and knocked in two more. The Twins hit 2-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left five men on base. The Twins will return home to host the Red Sox. Nick Pivetta will face Joe Ryan on a Monday matinee.
