3. What is a film you absolutely despise and why?
ive been thinking about this and idk i do not really absolutely despise any movie i can remember right now. i am a lover at heart. however i have decided to share a somewhat controversial opinion instead which is i think brokeback mountain is really fucking boring and i dont like it. 👍
4. Is there a film that you love except for the ending? What would you change about the ending?
oh i have so many different answers for this but the one most grating to me lately has been tom at the farm. the movie carries this incredible amount of tension and violence i was really into until the last fifteen minutes which feel so bland and out of nowhere. i dont know what the original stage play was like but the movie is so afraid to carry the consequences of its fucked up premise it feels like a betrayal. i watched that movie a whole month ago and im still so upset by it! idk the two of them could have done something terrible to the girl or tom could have let the brother reach him in the final hunt or replaced his boyfriend as a son or ANYTHINGGGG someone needed to die and no one did and the guy with the scar in his face meant nothing to me because it was so fucking obvious from like the first half hour and the movie could have been so solid. but oh well we'll always have chase him through the cornfield spit in his mouth scene
(as an aside i have spent the last month watching xavier dolan films and being disappointed because im obsessed with the idea that he has to have done something really good. and he hasnt truly and some movies i so actively disliked and it upsets me. however im happy about the fact that i have found a writer/director i dislike for his scripts but enjoy for his technical displays. the ratio thing can get gimmicky but also consider: its fun.)
9. What was the last movie you watched? What did you think of it?
i just finished three bewildered people in the night it was fucking cool. i love araki he's like a mutual to me. obviously it's very amateur but so what! it feels like something someone i know could write so its nice to know he went on to do bigger things. but yeah it dragged a bit and the acting failed at times and some of alicias confessions to camera were like. steven from totally fucked up did that better. but its okay because i had fun. bisexuality really makes for an awesome narrative device. i should watch the long weekend o'despair but ive not found it very quickly ill give it another search tonight but if anyone wants to send it to me...

Question four 🤔
4. What fandoms have you written for?
-> David Dobrik (yikes) The Dolan Twins, Sebastian Stan, Bucky Barnes, I think I did a smut threesome involving Chris Evans at one point. Uh—I swear I wrote for Druig for like two weeks out of an obsession. I’ve written for Steven Harrington and now TopGun.

16) A film you love but everyone else hates ?
Ok so i didn't want to pick a movie that i know is terrible but that i kinda like because of nostalgia, i wanted to pick a movie i genuinely love and stand by as an adult. So i filtered through my letterboxd and picked the worst rated movie out of the movies i love, and the movie in question is I Love You Philippe Morris by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, which doesn't really surprise me. I don't think it's hated per say, it has an average rating of 3.4/5 which means people think it's just meh, and i sorta get why but idc because i absolutely love it. Granted i do have some cherished memories related to watching it but i think even without them i'd still love it because it just slaps. I mean a movie where jim carrey plays a manipulative gay conman with ewan mcgregor as his lover ?? inspired by the real story of a guy who became a brilliant conman just to fund his flamboyant gay lifestyle ??? and the dominant color of the movie is yellow ?????? of course i love it you know. It's a campy old time.
17) Which cinematic universe would you like to live in ?
................i apologize in advance for this answer where i will prove to be an insufferable cliché of both myself and the typical "french person who likes movies" but. Godard movies. Specifically the early 60's ones, like before his head got so swollen he became incapable of producing anything remotely sensical, specifically the ones in color also. Yeah, I know, i know, but hear me out. this is the fantasy : it's always sunny and the sky's always so blue it makes me wanna cry. the world's in technicolor. i'm either in a nicely decorated parisian apartment or tanning my ass in the Mediterranean. the yellows are yellow and the reds are red. literally everyone is a communist. anna karina reads poems to me with her sexy, sexy voice and i get to smoke like a chimney. The dream.
21) A film with an amazing soundtrack ?
I'm gonna purposely steer clear of musicals because making me pick just a few would be long, cruel and also i don't want to. (ok just one i love The Rocky Horror Picture Show's soundtrack, obviously, like every gays and their mothers). So as far as non-musicals go, here are a few movie whose soundtracks left a mark on me : Amélie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Goodbye Lenin! by Wolfgang Becker (we love Yann Tiersen in this house !), Call Me By Your Name by Luca Guadagnino (we really love Sufjan Stevens in this house !!), Contempt by Godard, and I Killed My Mother by Xavier Dolan.

oh I'm so excited to see Pedro doing oscar worthy films since the movies he does are not thst great. He deserves to be a nominee so much bc he has such a chameleon acting (literally like pascal the chameleon from tangled lol). I heard Quentin Tarantino is working on his last movie and it'll be nice to see Pedro working with legends like him, or like Wes Anderson, Christopher Nolan, Sofia Coppola, Greta Grewin (what a DREAM it would be if he was in the Barbie movie), Xavier Dolan, Luca Guadagnino, Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, Sarah Polley, Steven Spielberg and the list goes on. Of course I hope he gets the chance to work with some of his favorites like now with Pedro Almodovar. But now that CAA is managing his career I feel like we are gonna get fed really well in those next years.
Also, I hope he does a A24 movie at some point too lol. He deserves it all.
Damn, I would LOVE him in a Jordan Peele!! 😍

Stex Appreciation Month Day 5: Rusty!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favourite Actor: Hard to choose! I think all Rustys are great, but my favourites are - Max Rizzo and Delano Willemsen because I got to see them live! But I also love Paul Whitaker, James Gillan, Colin Munro, Paul Baker, Rommel Singson, Greg Mowry, Dan Ellison, Sean McDermott, Steven Skeels, Jeffrey Socia, Bernie Blanks, Michael Pickering, Markus Fetter, Blake Patrick Anderson, Dolan Jose, Franklyn Warfield, Marcel Brauneis, and Kevin Kohler.
Favourite Song/Scene: Engine of Love, Crazy, Call Me Rusty, Starlight Express, Starlight Sequence...... literally every song/scene he's in.
Favourite Costume: The current Bochum production! The costume is so pretty and the hat is so cute! I do love the little white button they stuck on their nose in the OLC production though ❤
Favourite Ship: Steam Press (Rusty and Update!Caboose) all the way! I also love Rusty/CB, Electra/Rusty, Ruhrgold/Rusty, Brexit/Rusty, Dinah/Rusty.
Headcanon:
Most people know this already but I headcanon Rusty as Italian and Espresso is his cousin!
Rusty can make really yummy Italian dishes that are to die for.
Rusty is very insecure about his looks but over time, his confidence grows and learns to love who he is. He still has bad days, of course but he’s a confident boy.
Unpopular Opinion: They really need to cast more POC actors as Rusty. Also, as much as I love Engine of Love, Call Me Rusty is far more superior and to me, explains more about him etc.

Meet the newest additions to the family -- Rachel and Rafe Dolan !!
Their drafts have been around for a long while but I wanted to wait until I found a fitting FC for Rachel since I didn’t want to put the other on the blog without him. They’re a pair of brothers from a troublesome and dysfunctional family who conducts a local junkyard -- a family with a rather bad reputation that gives them a tough time getting in with the people of their community. The Dolan boys are met with hostility and prejudice, despite best efforts.
Their brother Marky runs a drug business and contributes to the family’s bad reputation that Rachel wants to desperately escape from, but ever since a life-changing accident Rafe doesn’t have many options left and doesn’t feel the same way. While the youngest is planning on leaving as soon as the opportunity occurs Rafe joined Marky’s business and takes care of everyone who threatens the Dolan family.
They do have ties to the Garretty twins, so there will be occasional mentions and relations to Saffron and Casper.
Now, you might think that I was overly ambitious to put these two in my test-muse list as there are already others lurking without many interactions, and you know what ?? You’d be right. But I worked for a while on them and wanted to make use of my time off. If you’re interested in interacting with these boys, check them out and let me know✌️
FCs: Joseph Quinn & Tom Stevens

EMPIRE OF LIGHT (2022)
Starring Olivia Colman, Micheal Ward, Monica Dolan, Tom Brooke, Tanya Moodie, Hannah Onslow, Crystal Clarke, Toby Jones, Colin Firth, Sara Stewart, Ron Cook, Justin Edwards, Roman Hayeck-Green, Brian Fletcher, Dougie Boyall, William Chubb, Spike Leighton, Jacob Avery, Jamie Whitelaw, Dylan Blore, Adrian McLoughlin, D.J. Bailey and Tom Colley.
Screenplay by  Sam Mendes.
Directed by Sam Mendes.
Distributed by Searchlight Pictures. 113 minutes. Rated R.
This winter seems to be the time where Oscar-winning directors want to explore the magic of the cinema. First there was Steven Spielberg’s fantastic The Fabelmans. Coming soon is Damien Chazelle’s Babylon (more about that in a week or two…). And in between is this sweet tale from Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall, 1917).
Now unlike the other two movies, which celebrate the act of making films, Empire of Light revolves around the showing of those same movies. (Although, in fairness, both The Fabelmans and Babylon each have at least one segment celebrating the magic of simply watching a movie in a theater.)
Empire of Light is the story of the crew that works in The Empire, a slightly rundown but grand cinema on the British coastline, circa 1981. It is an odd mix of types and situations, but it is filled with outcasts who truly love film – and each other. (In a family way…)
And honestly, Empire of Light is a very nice film, although it could have been even better. (For the record, of the three films mentioned above, it’s worse than The Fabelmans, but much better than Babylon.)
Empire of Light has a sepia-toned nostalgia for the world it inhabits; the grandeur of the giant movie houses, the tail end of the 70s (culturally, if not chronologically), arguably the last great era of filmmaking. (Among the movies which are referenced significantly in the film are Being There, Chariots of Fire and Stir Crazy.)
In fact, in some ways, in its better moments, Empire of Light is reminiscent to that old beautiful Italian love song to theaters – Cinema Paradiso.
Unfortunately, there is a tendency to try to stuff too many storylines into the confines of the Empire of Light. We are dealing with mental health issues, adultery, racism, May/December romance, interracial romance, and more. All of these issues are important and worthy of examination but piling so many together makes everything feel a bit overstuffed.
Still, as usual Olivia Colman is just breathtaking in her role as the brittle manager of the theater, and the mostly unknown Micheal Ward is pretty much her equal as a new usher who becomes her best friend – and maybe more. And Toby Jones steals every scene he is in as the soulful projectionist at the theater.
You expect a lot when you get a film starring Colman and directed by Oscar-winning director Mendes. Honestly, Empire of Light doesn’t quite live up to that pedigree, however it is a very sweet, wistful film and a true love note to the old-fashioned theater going experience. It’s definitely an experience worth revisiting.

5 Movies, 4 Songs, 3 Essentials, 2 Books, 1 Quote
Oh this is fun! Thanks @bluesundaycake for tagging me!!!
5 MOVIES.
1 - Parasite (2019): Okay, so I watched this one only last week, so I guess that’s why it came to mind. But also because it’s amazing! I’d been meaning to watch it for ages but kept putting it off, and as I was watching it I remember thinking, “You idiot, this is so good, you should have watched this ages ago!” It’s such a clever concept, so visually fascinating, and so suspenseful. I’ve never seen anything like it.
2 - Pride & Prejudice (2005): I’ve watched this countless times in the past few years, as inspiration for one of my fics, which is an adaptation from the book. But not only as inspiration, just because it’s so peaceful and so visually stunning. I think this film is sort of a refuge. A dream state. Just pure beauty (like all of Joe Wright’s films, to be fair).
3 - Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain (2001): I couldn’t not include this film, because for such a long time in my life this has been the film I would watch whenever I was depressed or lonely or prone to dark thoughts. This movie will never fail to inspire me, to give me hope, to light things up.
4 - Matthias et Maxime (2019): I just had to include a Dolan movie on here, and I picked this one, because it’s the most amazing, endearing, touching, realistic representation of friendship I think I’ve ever seen on screen. The dialogues are so hilarious and genuine. And the movie is heartbreaking but hopeful at once. And the soundtrack was made by one of my favourite composers, pianist Jean-Michel Blais, and it’s absolutely stunning. I cannot recommend this film enough.
5 - The Princess Bride (1987): Okay so I thought I should include a movie from my childhood on this list, and I couldn’t think of any other than this one. I know this film by heart, in French and in English. Love for this movie was one of the only things I had in common with my dad growing up, so maybe that’s why it’s so precious to me. I have so many fond memories of it.
4 SONGS.
1 - No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross by Sufjan Stevens : this song is like seeing the face of the one you love
2 - House of the Rising Sun by alt-J : one of the best covers I’ve ever heard
3 - Shrike by Hozier : this song manages to make me happy and sad at the same time
4 - The Rip Tide by Beirut : I wish I could hear this one again for the first time
3 ESSENTIALS.
1 - My darling Elio (my cat)
2 - My support system (aka amazing online friends)
3 - Wireless headphones
2 BOOKS.
1 - Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman : Yeah, yeah, I know I’m predictable. Well, sue me! I’ve read this once a year since 2017, so I think it deserves a spot on this list. I was gonna include the movie too, but I managed to settle for just the book.
2 - The Secret History by Donna Tartt : Okay, listen, I have a degree in Classics, and every self-respecting Classics student needs to read this. It’s nerdy and pompous and pretentious as hell, but it’s also a damn good read.
1 QUOTE.
“Allow your pain to be finite. Wild things bear no grudges when they are set free.” -Nikita Gill
