One day around 32,000 years ago, an arctic ground squirrel ate parts of a plant, silene stenophylla, including its seed. The squirrel was digesting it when its life ended.

Its body was recovered from permafrost and examined. Scientists germinated this plant seed – This silene stenophylla just bloomed.

It is 32,000 years old.

The strength, the vitality and stamina of living things of life itself is incredible.

I'll think of their apperances and personalities later on when I actually draw them- I have a few ideas lol, especially for Yannhime's kids 💙💛

Also ik I've used the names of moths for RitaHime's kids, but just so you know, moths in french are "Papillon de nuit", which means "night butterflies". Butterflies and moths are under a huuuge group known as Lepidoptera, which consists of 165,000 species with only 18,000 of them being butterflies.

I'm currently studying zoology in university, and trust me, moths offer a much greater variety and appearances- truly beautiful insects so I thought it would be fitting.

Definitely another little drawing project to add to the long list of drafts. I don’t think I’ve drawn anything for KingOhger yet either.

I’ll definitely want to think of the other Royal’s kids as well- this is so cute and fun.

introducing my new friend, the elusive stenophylla lobivertex or Peruvian dragon mantis! they are so so tiny and seem to have settled in fairly quickly - I read that this species are fairly flighty but the little one has been remarkably calm the handful of times I had to touch their pot (yes, much like Arty once was they're too small for even my smallest enclosure lol). I forgot how tiny babies are 🥹

thinking about that Silene stenophylla flower scientists revived and. I fear loss in many aspects of my life but it’s truly reassuring to think that if a flower from so long ago could be found, then maybe other things will remain, too, even if they appear to be gone. and maybe I’ll be okay <3

in lieu of my last rb and sam o nella's return i have to point out that the Silene genus has two different species under it, Silene stenophylla and Silene latifolia, whose names respectively mean narrow-leafed and broad-leafed campion, except the first one is in greek and the second one is in latin. let this be a reminder that most taxonomists deserve to be laughed at

#angustifolia and platyphylla are also common nomers. yes they also mean narrow/broad leafed #take a page out of lavandula's book and stick to latin if you have both narrow and broad leafed variants
