Tales of Why did they name the episode after him when he doesn’t show up until the last like two minutes of the episode? Episode 15
Okay Tales of Zestiria the X’s new opening and ending should be switched for one in terms of tone. The opening makes it feel like that the episode is over before it even started while the ending makes me look forward to the episode when it’s already over. Also it is pretty upbeat which could end up causing tonal problems down the road similarly to the tone problems Free! Eternal Summer had when an episode would end on a very downer note followed by “~Hey Future Fish!~” Which ended up causing problems for the tone of the series and really made me wish that they had an alternate ending sequence or they did not show the ending at all and just cut to black and credits. And if they keep some scenes in the game like with certain characters dying it would have the same effect.
Well onto the meat of the episode it kind of dragged too long on the parts with Sergei and Sorey which honestly could have some parts used to oh I don’t know develop the seraphim especially the one the episode is named after, Dezel. Now in the game I didn’t like Dezel much due to him being a simultaneously better and worse Stella in terms of their in game actions of being actually pretty shitty (Stella with everything having to do with her sister and Dezel constantly possessing Rose without her consent) that just die with no redemption. All right unlike Stella we can see that Dezel has some redeemable qualities in that he sometimes mentors Sorey and likes dogs ... and other animals and he saved someone’s life at the wind trial telling them that their life is worth more than they gave themself credit for (not that they heard him). However while what Dezel does to Rose is technically objectively worse he still manages to clear the very low bar to be better than Stella (believe me it’s very low as Michael and Heldalf are able to pass it). However it did answer my question that I was asking at the season finale that if Dezel was possessing Rose in the anime and well since she was aware of him as a kid I think it’s safe to say that Dezel hasn’t been possessing her and the fact that Rose is fully aware of his presence. However two minutes is not enough time to develop him more.
As for the Sergei stuff that I felt like dragged with him being enamored with Sorey because Shepherd. I do feel that it is interesting that they added in extra branches of the knights and there are issues between each of the branches as some of them are siding more with the church than others. However I feel that it was getting ridiculous with him being in awe with everything that Sorey does as from the first season him being unreasonable overpowered like “WE GET IT SOREY IS LIKE JESUS OR SOMETHING AND HE IS AMAZING! WE GET IT FOR FUCK’S SAKE!” and spent much of the episode underground doing jack shit when he is a knight and he has a fucking sword he can go kick ass and temporarily knock out some hellion while Sorey purifies it even if he can’t see it. I mean in the game he’s able to block Dezel and kill hellions I can’t see why he can’t knock out a hellion here. Also the stuff with him giving flowers and chocolates to Rose as an apology is weird. I mean i would write his brother Boris doing that but not Sergei as well in the game he is very blunt and direct about apologies. Plus also in my fanfics he’s developed snark due to Rose doing some really stupid shit. Also instead of some random dude relaying information to Sergei they should’ve had his brother saying “Yo the blue knights are probably hiding bodies in a basement somewhere and I think the bishop has been assassinated.” And have him have a bond with Sorey and Rose will hurt more when he’s inevitably killed off.
Also I still have the problem that they seraphim are shafted in favor of the human characters. But I ranted about that last week so I won’t dwell on it.
