PosteRazor won't win any Apple Design Awards for its interface, as it's more functional than beautiful. Back in my prior cubicle-sitting career, a program like PosteRazor would have made for many interesting practical jokes and reduced the workload required for creating the decorations for various office events. I printed one of my daughter's favorite photos as a six-page poster and taped it together for her she loved it, and it's now hanging on her wall (though given her ever-changing interests, I expect that will last a couple days at best!).

The end result is a PDF that you can then print using your printer. PosteRazor uses a simple five-step process to create a poster: load an image, define the paper size and orientation, define the overlap area (the portion of the image that appears on multiple sheets, making alignment simpler), define the poster size (in number of pages, absolute size, or percentage of original), and save the poster. While the end result clearly won't rival what you get by sending such a task to a print shop, it will cost considerably less, making it ideal for things such as temporary posters for an office party or maybe for the kid's room at home. You then create the poster by taping the multiple sheets together. PosteRazor is a free utility that helps you create posters by printing suitably high resolution source files onto multiple sheets of paper.

How can you believe the claims made by the print shop for the inks and mounting board? I use original HP Vivera inks which have been tested fade-proof for 80 years by Wilhelm Research. Don’t laugh – that has happened to me before. USPS/UPS/Fedex? Ha, ha, ha! They will fold it to get it into your mailbox. Getting the colors matched correctly to your calibrated display image – good luck with that.Yes, they will have a jumbo printer which makes this on one sheet. You have someone making minimum wage, charged out at $100/hr, giving tender loving care to your baby, in between beer and pot breaks.There are so many variables you cannot control in delegating this task that I discounted the idea in seconds. With my DJ in perfect tune after its annual checkup I was all set, comfortable that perfect colors would result following a recent colorimeter profile session. And making something really huge for my DJ90’s seventh anniversary seemed the right thing to do. But when it came to making a 36″ x 48″ print the other day, neither could have done the trick. On occasion I have regretted buying the 18″ wide HP DesignJet 90 printer, wishing I had instead paid a little more for the 24″ DJ130. We are talking 36″ x 48″ or seven times the area.
