Galaxy brain moment I had with an ADA Chuuya and Elliot Spencer parallel

Chuuya refuses to use his ability unless there is literally no other option. He's used to using his ability to kill, and he's afraid that if he uses it, he'll slip back into old habits and kill. He also refuses to use a gun for the same reason. He uses martial arts only, and he's a good enough fighter that it works.

Dazai does something similar, using only his brain and a taser. Dazai's reasoning is a little different, in that it's mostly because Chuuya never uses a gun and he is a supportive husband. Both of them have guns on them (all detectives legally have to have a firearm on them in case of emergency) but they never use them.

He's never used his ability while in the agency, so no one knows what it is. Logically he has to have one, cause he's a detective, but he seems to actively hate it so no one pushes. (The Tanizakis got pushy once and he snapped at them) His ability is one of the seven Agency mysteries, right next to Chuuya and Dazai's former jobs.

Although once it's revealed that they were former Port Mafia (and the agency mystery changed from "their job before the agency" to "before the mafia"), I think Chuuya would confide in Kunikida only that he doesn't use his ability because he's only used it to kill, and because in previous organizations, they valued him only for his ability.

Chuuya: You have to accept your ability as a part of yourself.

Atsushi/Kyouka/ADA!Akutagawa: Don't you hate your ability?

Chuuya: Yeah but this is about you, stay focused.

Ooooooh this is really interesting direction to take Chuuya in after getting out of the port mafia—of course if he was comfortable using his ability he wouldn’t even need a gun, just a pocket full of bullets lol—and this is kind of a side note but I do think it’s interesting that we only really see Dazai firing a gun while he’s in the Port Mafia? Unless there are parts in the light novels I’m forgetting/haven’t read yet…

Also alskdjfj Chuuya being supportive of the others while not applying the same to himself whoops
