Mining on RX Vega 56: setup and selection
Tumblr media
The higher the power of the mining equipment, the more crypto coins the owner receives. The mining rigs assembled on rx vega 56 demonstrate a higher hash rate than the previous series of AMD video cards. The fifth generation microarchitecture and many other technological innovations provide high overclocking of the rx vega 56 GPU in digital money mining. RX Vega 56 Specification: Video card mining - Main characteristics Video card in mining, the main characteristics Main characteristics: - Architecture - GCN 1.4. - Manufacturing technology of microcircuits - 14 Hm. - Graphics core area - 486 mm². - Number of transistors - 12500 million - Number of TMU — 224. - ROP quantity — 64. - Number of shrader units — 3584. - Core frequency - 1156 MHz. - Core frequency (TURBO) - 1471 MHz. - Memory frequency - 953 MHz. - Video memory type - HBM 2. - Video memory size - 8GB. - Bus bandwidth - 2048 pages. - Additional food — 8+8 pin. - power usage - 210 Watts. In terms of hashing speed, the graphics processor is not inferior, and on many coins it surpasses its competitors. If we compare radeon rx vega 56 vs 1080 ti, mining on the "red" card is more productive on popular algorithms Ethash and Cryptonight... Thanks to dual BIOS, when mining on rx 56 vega, you can change the parameters of the video card by moving the lever on the device panel. The backup BIOS has write protection, which makes it possible to restore the video accelerator after an unsuccessful firmware. People Also Ask: Common Questions Mining on RX Vega 56 Which model is the best for Mining on RX Vega 56? At the first place Gigabyte vega 56 The best mining card in AMD's line of vega GPUs. Exclusive cooler WindForce 2x, with powerful fans, copper heat pipes and a 2-section radiator, protects against overheating under severe loads. A low-noise, cold and relatively inexpensive video card is an excellent option for assembling a mining farm for the extraction of XMR cryptocurrency. Msi AIR Boosts Vega 56 has high performance mining. The manufacturer overclocks the GPUs at the factory. Setting the Boost mode, accelerates the core to the level of 1450 MHz, this is the best indicator in this line of Vega video cards. The hot air is removed by a two-slot cooling system with a powerful turbine. The powercolor vega 56 video card is available in several versions: - PowerColor Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano Edition compact card with one fan and no BIOS toggle switch. - PowerColor Radeon RX Vega 56 Red Devil made in the original style. The main feature of this model is 3 BIOS switching options: standard, quiet and OC BIOS. The function allows you to adjust the power consumption and the temperature for turning on the fans with one click of the toggle switch. - PowerColor Radeon RX Vega 56 Red Dragon resembles Red Devil in appearance, but has a shortened PCB, only two BIOS versions and an additional power connector 6 + 8 pin, instead of the usual 8 + 8, on other rx vega 56 models. On video accelerators series PowerColor radeon rx vega 56 mining is quite complicated in settings, but with proper overclocking, the card demonstrates good hash rates, and three fans reliably protect against overheating. Video accelerator Asus ROG Strix RX Vega 56 OC 8 GB equipped with proprietary utility Asus GPU Tweak II, with the function of automatic tuning to the maximum allowable frequencies. Led-backlight allows you to visually control the degree of heating of the asus rx vega 56 video card in the process of mining cryptocurrency. GPU Double Edition Vega RX 56 American company XFX, has 20% reduced dimensions in comparison with the reference version. The card has no factory acceleration, so the core frequency remains at its default values.. This concludes the review of models from different manufacturers. The test results showed that Vega cards for mining are quite promising. The full disclosure of the capabilities of the new architecture depends on the development of new software for mining cryptocurrencies. The new Nvidia 2080 model line competes well with the Vega series graphics cards. What to mine, profitable algorithm: Mining on RX Vega 56 How productive is ether mining on vega 56? AMD GPUs are traditionally focused on mining Ethash coins. The hashing speed of the vega 56 video card in ether mining depends on the overclocking potential of a particular model. On servers Ezil.me and Rustpool.xyz you can set up Merged mining cryptocoins ETH + ZIL... Merged mining is different from the traditional dual mining previously widely practiced on red cards when mining Ethereum. You mine ETH by connecting through one of the specified services to another pool (for example, Ethermine), and the system periodically switches you to a ZIL mining round (once every 1.5 hours). At the end of the round, you will be returned back to mining ETH. Basically, every merged mining implementation has an auxiliary chain and a parent blockchain. A prerequisite for collaboration is to use the same hashing algorithm. Money is also paid in two coins. As a result, you will receive an additional 10-12% profit. According to information from mining forums to increase productivity in cards vega rx56 upload bios from the flagship vega rx 64 model... But each owner does this at his own peril and risk, and no one guarantees the success of such experiments. The cards of this line have a high hash rate based on the Cryptonight algorithm.... Before Monero switched to the RandomX algorithm, mining of this altcoin was profitable, but this is already in the past. As of 06/22/2020, the first place in mining profitability for vega 56 is the coin Port Protocol (XHV) on the CryptoNightHaven algorithm. Brings a little less income Conceal (CCX), CryptoNightConceal algorithm. Forks of the kryptonite algorithm do not heat up the graphics adapters to excessively high temperatures, so it is recommended to transfer the rig to mining these tokens during the hot season. Moreover, they occupy the top lines of the rating in online services for calculating the profitability of mining. The AMD Vega series video cards also performed well with the new MimbleWimble POW protocol. Altcoins MWC-CT31 (Cuckatoo31 algorithm) and Grin-CT32 (Cuckatoo32 algorithm) are almost as profitable as digital coins Kryptonite and Ethash. For the fastest possible assessment of the market situation, experts use a mining calculator. Of course, the results they give are very approximate. The real hash rate and the amount of income can differ by 10-15%, both in plus and minus, but still it is worth paying attention to the data from these sites. Mining calculators: - Wattomine. - Coincalculator. Most users use a simple Nicehash service, where, after installation and a little setup, a smart program finds a beneficial algorithm itself. It is recommended to visit the service https://minerstat.com, here you will find hash rates and a list of profitable crypto coins for most models of video cards and ASICs. Hashrate on different algorithms: RX Vega 56 Hash rates may vary depending on the manufacturer of the video card, overclocking settings, operating system and mining software installed on a specific PC. New profitable projects periodically appear on the blockchain platform. If, of course, he wants to quickly recoup the investment. Overclocking AMD Radeon Vega 56 At standard settings, any graphics accelerator in mining is unprofitable. The video card needs overclocking in mining, otherwise it will consume electricity in vain. Using the program MSI Afterburner it is possible to quickly overclock the video card. Optimal values are selected individually for each video card. For this video card, the optimal kernel settings will be: - Core Clock +100 - Memory Clock +600 - Power Limit 80 The hashing speed increases and the graphics card becomes profitable. For rx 56 vega overclocking settings, you can also use the utility WattTool. How to reduce energy consumption A powerful 3D graphics accelerator is a rather power-hungry device. The consumption of Vega 56 in mining is higher than that stated by the manufacturer in the technical parameters of the video card. To avoid excessively high electricity bills, undervolting (lowering the core voltage) is required. Will help here again WattTool program. In the program window, you need to change the voltage indicators in points P6 and P7(when controlled in manual mode, the voltage at lower frequencies will drop automatically). For the rx 56 vega, a 12% reduction (1.070 mV) is optimal, which will reduce the consumption of vega 56 in mining by 50 watts. Also in the program MSI Afterburner conveniently adjustable tension by stitching Power Limit. The optimal value is 80%, some video cards are able to hold a lower voltage, which has a positive effect on the payback period of the video card. Conclusion Cryptocurrency mining is not only a source of passive income, but also a promising investment. Many financial analysts are predicting a new and unprecedented rise in the value of virtual assets. One can be skeptical about such predictions. But the fact that bitcoin, and behind it and other coins, having arisen from oblivion, have become a real financial instrument cannot be refuted. Some experts believe that the virtual asset mining market has already stabilized. Miners shouldn't expect super-profits, but a new crypto winter is unlikely to come either. Predictability has always attracted institutional investors who will play an increasing role in the development of the crypto industry. One of the main factors determining a successful investment is the price of the electrics in your area. Mining farms operating on free or the cheapest electricity remain profitable in any market situation. Read the full article

Preptober: TTG Update 2
Tumblr media
TTG is... progressing, but far too slowly. (Read my introduction to “The Tenth Generation” here, and my previous update here). A friend in my NaNo regional Discord server has made a pact with me -- if I finish my outlining before November 1st, he will draw the main characters of TTG; if he finishes his outline before November 1st, I’ll send him a card/encouraging letter with some goodies every week of NaNoWriMo. Fortunately, my friend doesn’t know I have a tumblr blog, so I can say here that going to send him the card + goodies regardless of whether he finishes outlining in time, because it’s a nice thing to do.
Because I’m doing 2 NaNo projects (25k words for each) I’m going to try and outline 13 chapters of each project, for a total of 26 chapters. Currently I have 12 chapters outlined across both projects (nine for WCtS and three for TTG). That means I need to outline more than 2 chapters per day until November 1st. My average word count per chapter is 3-5k, so I should be able to win NaNo with 13 chapters per project.
God, that’s a lot of math. I hate math.
Anyway, I was really struggling to do a detailed chaptered outline for TTG because it felt kinda... hopeless. I felt like TTG’s over-arching story wasn’t going anywhere; I had some cool scenes in mind, but I didn’t know how to connect them. I watched Katytastic’s 3/9/27 novel outlining video and thought “wow, this is stupid” ...but I could also see my own story loosely fitting that outline. I made a list of all of the 27 events in Katytastic’s outline, then grabbed some markers, a pen, and the highlighters that @dieselsardine was kind enough to send me (which I had been aching for an excuse to use) and started writing a 3/9/27 outline by hand.
Tumblr media
Every time I made a mistake, I would re-write the entire page.
This sounds tedious, but re-writing gave me a chance to re-think the concepts I was putting down and either make them more concise or add more detail. (But there were definitely some instances where it was just 3am and I wrote the wrong character’s name and then had to re-write the page without thinking about anything except how annoyed I was).
By 5am I had a coherent general outline with a beginning, a middle, and an end! I’m so happy! I’ve digitalized and refined that outline in Notion, and now I’m going to try and nap for a few hours before getting back to it.

Preptober: WCtS Update 5
Tumblr media
So preptober is... going. I’m in danger of falling behind in my outlining and not being ready for NaNoWriMo by November 1st. (Read the introduction to “We Chose the Sea” here, and my previous update here). I attended a virtual NaNo prep session in my regional Discord group, and when I pitched my story to the group it was mostly well received... but there were some disturbingly prominent flaws that I had somehow overlooked.
so the polyamorous aspect of the central trio of characters is a voyage into uncharted waters for me; I’ve never written a throuple before and don’t know the politics/stereotypes to avoid. That’s another thing I need to research alongside all the nautical stuff.
More concerning, however, is that Character A (a black man) meets and falls in love with Character B (who is a white woman) while in an established relationship with Character C (who is a man of unknown parentage). B does not receive confirmation of the romantic relationship between A and C until B and A are discussing marriage, and after the feedback I received in the NaNo prep session I’m worried that Character A will be associated with the “cheating black man” stereotype. I’m taking the time to change my outline in an attempt to smooth this over, but I’m not sure I can completely avoid it.
Also, I am falling behind on my outline. I’m supposed to outline one chapter per day, but lately I have been supremely distracted by another project. It’s driving me crazy and I think I’ll need to pull another all-nighter, which sucks because I’m always 1/3 brain dead the day after.

Preptober: WCtS Update 3
Tumblr media
Still outlining my 2020 NaNoWriMo project. (Read my introduction to “We Chose the Sea” here). I overcame the hurdle I mentioned in the previous update and am now working on outlining Chapter Five. My protagonist changed her name for the second time, and I still need to research ships that could survive a voyage into an arctic sea and attacks by mutant orcas.
There’s a big thing about my protagonist refusing to be left behind as the men embark on an epic sea voyage, so I decided to change her name to Penelope because, you know, Odysseus’ wife who was left behind to fend off suitors for 20 years. However, I don’t like the nickname Penny, so... idk what to do. Maybe I’ll just get used to it?
Still need to come up with a religious system. Folklore is more relevant to the story than an official religion, but I feel I should know the basics at least. (Speaking of folklore, I only have 2/3 of the myths I need to write as prefaces for each of the three parts of the story).
I made a hybrid political/topographic map for my fantasy world way back in (I think) July of 2020 when this project was little more than a loose set of ideas. I used a mixture of Inkscape and MS Paint, and it took 6-7 hours because I don’t have a tablet and used a mouse for everything. Now I want to create a map of Helepont, the port city which is the capital of the Enkarian Empire, since in Part One my protagonist ventures through a good bit of it. I’m perusing watabou’s medieval city map generator, but it’s not giving me precisely what I need so I might have to draw my own map. A good friend (whomst I am not sure wants to be named) is sending me a small drawing tablet, so this will be a good project for learning how to use it.
Also I need to add latitude/longitude lines + a scale to my existing world map, but I don’t know how to do that. Valtamere (my fantasy world) is the same size as planet Earth (because I didn’t want to wade neck-deep into all the science of it being different) so it shouldn’t be difficult, but I’m only portraying the northern hemisphere. It’s just a headache overall and I need a smarter person’s advice to feel comfortable doing this.
Anyway, this is very much a rough draft. I’m currently working on Chapter Five and some aspects of it really bother me, but I don’t have the time to puzzle over this and refine things as much as I want before NaNo starts. I keep reminding myself this is Draft No. 1 and it will bear only a vague resemblance to the final product, but it’s hard to keep that in mind as I try not to mentally gnaw on the (glaring) imperfections like a dog on a bone.

‘twas the eve before NaNo, and all through the house
not a creature was stirring
except me, a writer, as I frantically attempt to finish at least one more chapter of my outline before midnight EST.
In related news, Preptober has gone horribly awry and I do NOT have a complete outline. That had been my goal from the beginning, except things happened -- I switched projects (I’m now focusing on TTG instead of WCtS) + hit a bout of writer’s block that lasted almost a week.
I did make some progress on characters during my writer’s block. I have discovered the wonders of Picrew portraits, so I now have mugshots for my two lesbian characters.
Tumblr media
(on the left, Aethra, and on the right, Grelda. They’d look this way in a modern AU, I guess).
I also spent far too long searching for armor references before realizing that Grelda would be totally unable to feasibly afford plate armor. (This is what I get for starting off with a knight as my mental image of her). Instead, she might be able to pull of wearing a brigandine and maybe some miscellaneous armor bits she salvages and/or loots off of corpses.
Researching swordsmanship has... not really happened, unfortunately, because I’ve been busy trying (and failing) to outline. Grelda starts off using a very utilitarian falchion, then loses it through circumstances I shall not reveal, and eventually finds a magical sword named “Dawncaller.” Right now, my mental image of Dawncaller is modeled on a rapier with a fancy hilt that I saw on pinterest, but that could change as I learn more about swords.
Grelda’s big thing is in regards to her swordsmanship is that, even though she isn’t particularly skilled, she does not give up. Her tenacity helps her unlock the ability to go enter a berserk state, but I want that ability to backfire on her at least once and frighten her allies.
Gah, I don’t know why I’m making a tumblr post. I should be outlining.

Preptober: TTG Update 1
Tumblr media
So it has been a hot second since my last Preptober update, which was a two-part update (read my introduction of “The Tenth Generation” here; read my introduction of “We Chose the Sea” here, and my previous update for WCtS here).
I’m having fun in my regional Discord NaNoWriMo server and making new friends, which is great. One of these friends has been encouraging me to set WCtS aside and pursue TTG for NaNo, since this new project has grabbed my attention and is now holding it hostage. I eventually pitched a poll to the server over which project I should do, and ended up with a tie.
I’m going to do TWO NaNoWriMo projects this year -- 25k words for TTG, and 25k words for WCtS. I’m mostly happy about this, because this strategy plays to my strengths (i.e. writing beginnings and the first part of the middle of the story, which is where I’m most confident and quick) but it interferes with my long-term goal of actually finishing the first draft of a novel and moving toward publication.
I think the best way to proceed is to finish NaNo with this plan, and then pick one project to develop through December. I want to have the draft finished by January, where I can print out what I have and mail it to @dieselsardine who has been kind enough to agree to act as a volunteer editor. Sometime during January, I have to go back to college (I really struggle with online classes, so autumn 2020 is my gap semester) and I don’t want to be juggling college and writing -- my time management skills are not great, to put it mildly, and I can easily see myself being either totally absorbed with my classes and neglecting my draft, or else totally absorbed with my draft and neglecting my classes. Yikes.
More immediately, however, I finished the hard part of making a world map for TTG. I used Azgaar’s Fantasy Map Generator (free browser-based generator) to generate roughly the continent shapes I wanted, then used Inkscape (free vector drawing software) to cut the images apart, make minor changes, arrange them as I liked, and then trace the overall shape I desired. I have a tablet now -- which was a gift from the aforementioned Sardine -- so rather than spending ages clicking with a mouse I could just use the pen to draw. I swear the process was 3x faster. I ended up with a Pangaea-like landmass with a few islands, which I then colored with MS Paint.
Tumblr media
This is not the final product; biomes, landmarks, and settlements have yet to be added. I also need a scale.
I know the climate of IRL Pangaea was a MESS and experienced mega-monsoons and extreme desertification, but this is fantasy so I’m just arranging biomes with a reasonable amount of sense but not spending 10,000 hours researching how geography affects climate (which in turn determines biome). I don’t have that much time before NaNo starts. Did I spend a few hours looking at the Köppen Climate Classification System on Wikipedia? Yes. Did I spend as much time as I wanted to? No.
I’m one of those people who tend to write “journey” stories where there is a lot of travel involved, so maps are invaluable for me. Once this is complete, I can start really outlining TTG. I already have 1/4 of a general outline completed + some ideas for how the rest of the story should go, but that’s all; I haven’t even touched the chaptered outline yet. World-building is progressing, and I’m enjoying the high fantasy nature of TTG just as much as the low(er) fantasy atmosphere of WCtS.

Preptober: WCtS Update 4
Tumblr media
still outlining my 2020 NaNoWriMo project (read my introduction of “We Chose the Sea” here, and my last update here), but I’m entering a section I haven’t imagined quite as vividly as the previous ones, so I’m floundering a bit.
I just finished outlining the seventh and final chapter of Part One. I want to have Part One and Part Two outlined by the beginning of November. If I outline 1 chapter per day I should be able to outline Part Three as well before November, but I genuinely don’t know if more or less material will present itself and/or if I’ll slow down as the outline in my head becomes less detailed (and therefore more difficult to put on paper and refine).
I made a daily word count tracker for when NaNo starts, and I’ll also be tracking word counts in my planner (where I cannot escape them, haha).
I’m still trying to research 19th century Arctic expeditions, with a focus on expeditions into the Canadian Arctic. The reason I’m doing this is because I’m trying to get a handle on any special qualities of the ships involved that make them especially suitable for Arctic waters. I’m sure size plays a role, but I’m not sure what kind of role. Unfortunately, I’ve hit a wall in that particular area of my research because most of the expeditions into the Canadian Arctic were carried out by officers within or people working for the Royal Navy, which means the ships involved also carried guns (and therefore gun crews) + marines. These extra people inflate the total complement of the ship, and I don’t know enough about 19th century sailing ships to be able to guess the minimum number of crew it takes just for bare-bones sailing and maintenance, which is the kind of crew my fictional vessel will have. (What I wouldn’t give to have Jack Aubrey as a consultant for this project...)
A major element that enters the story towards the end of Part One is how one of the characters descends into a magically-induced madness. I am privately comparing the effects/symptoms of this madness to a very long-lasting manic episode, but of course my story is set during a fantasy version of Victorian England so I can’t use that terminology. I don’t want to demonize the mentally ill; this character doesn’t transform into a horror villain you might find in a deserted and bloodstained mental asylum, and they don’t become aggressive/hostile to those around them. However, they are mentally incapacitated and the madness affects their judgment and reasoning ability.
Part Two: The Sea focuses on the sailing adventure portion. I’m going to write as much and as well as I can and probably do research (i.e. read Patrick O’Brian’s Aubrey-Maturin series) either in small increments during NaNo or in big chunks afterwards. I can think of two big events that happen in Part Two whose repercussions will generate a lot of content, but other than that I don’t have much. It bugs me.

Preptober: WCtS Update 2
Tumblr media
I am doing NaNoWriMo (for the first time!) this year. Currently we are in the midst of Preptober and progress is being made on the outlining, research, character profiles, and world-building. I’ve encountered some snags and impulse-bought another book.
(Read my introduction of WCtS here, and my previous update here).
Chapters One and Two has been outlined. There might be seven chapters in each of the three parts? I want it to be even, but I know this is the first draft and chapters aren’t part of the plan for the final product anyway. I actually really do want to create and polish this project into an eventual, actual book via traditional publishing, but I know that goal is years in the future.
I really like outlining and consolidating all of my notes in Notion, which may I mention is FREE (unlike Scrivener). It’s not quite as versatile as Scrivener, since it isn’t designed for the specific purpose of writing/organizing novels, but the learning curve is easier.
The book I impulse-bought is The Terror by Dan Simmons, which is a re-telling of the disastrous Franklin Expedition of 1845 with a few fantastical twists. It’s fiction. It’s also 700-some pages, so I have no idea how I am going to get through this before the end of November. I’m not just hoping to enjoy the story for its own sake, but also to mine it for details about the lives of explorers in the Arctic in the nineteenth century.
I designed a calendar for my world. It uses a ten month system with the month names (loosely) based on Cornish ordinal numbers. (A Latin prefix jumped in for the 8th month, unfortunately, because I’m weak). The standard unit of days is still called a week even though it has six days instead of seven. I don’t know whether I want to come up with a whole set of weekday names, however -- I can’t use irl English-language weekday names because those are derived from Germanic myth, which doesn’t exist in my world.
Still need to come up with a religious system.
Currently wrestling with Chapter Three. My protagonist is a wealthy, white, upper-class woman, and her future husband is dark-skinned, only moderately wealthy, and from Nouveau Riche family. I’m trying to figure out why Protagonist’s family would allow her to marry this man.

NaNo 2020 Update 1
November 1st went really well! Whoo!
I surpassed my goal of writing 2k words, which felt really good. That said, I did write over a period of 24 hours without sleeping, since there was a midnight kickoff event and I was too excited to go to bed afterward. I ended up going to bed at 8:30PM on November 1st and woke up almost at noon today, so that’s... not so good.
I’m still working on Chapter One of TTG today, and I need to stop wasting time on tumblr and get back to work.
