Sleeping Beauty

This is my coursework for creative writing class, enjoy.

Chapter 1: Dreadful day

Once upon a time, long, long ago there was a beautiful kingdom ruled by a benevolent king and his queen. The two longed for a child and after many, painful childless years a miracle happened – Queen Leah was pregnant and after nine months she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl. The royal family and the peasants were overfilled with joy because their wishes were finally granted. The king was so happy he decided to have a feast, a celebration for the new princess and everyone came – kings and queens, earls and dukes, princes and princesses. It was truly a magnificent spectacle and everyone was invited...everyone...but me ! A year later the child had a christening, Aurora she was called – princess Aurora as if a baby really needs to be a princess. This time however she was visited by three fairies – Flora, Fauna and Merry – Weather. They were invited by the king himself to give his one and only daughter a gift, but not just any gift, no, for you see this was a magical gift.

- Everyone stand up for the three fairies. Said the royal announcer as he blew out the horn to greet them. - I am Flora and these are my sisters Fauna and Merry – Weather, we have come to bless and celebrate the birth of the new princess.

With just one wave of her wand she made a magnificent garden – daffodils, carnations, orchids and in the middle, a red rose. The fairy walked up to the baby's crib and said:

- Dear Aurora, my gift to you shall be the gift of beauty. Even the roses in your father's garden will envy you.

A wonderful gift indeed, after all it is easier to be beautiful. Let's see what the second one will give her.

- Sweet baby, my gift is that you never be blue, only sunshine and happiness.

Amazing they outdone themselves once again. I wonder what Merry – Weather will bless her with?

- Little princess, my gift to you is the gift of song, the sweetest gift of all.

A thunder banged. The queen grabbed her baby as the light grew slowly dimmer and the cheerful laughs were replaced by deathly silence.

- No, it can not be. - Well, Well.... What do we have here? Oh my, it's a baby. How wonderful ! - Maleficent. - Fauna, Merry – Weather protect the baby ! - My my, royalty, nobility and, oh even the rebels.

- What are you doing here you unholy filth. - Now, now my king flattery won't get you anywhere! I must say I really felt quite distressed at not receiving an invitation. - You are not welcome here. - Not welc..oh dear what an awkward situation. Well in that event I best be on my way! - You are not offended your excellency ? - Why no your majesty and despite the king's ill manners, I too shall bestow a gift on the child. - We don't want your fucking gift !

Everyone was terrified. What the hell was going on? What was that creature, who is he? Why was he here and why the king was so enraged by his arrival ?

- Listen well all of you, the princess shall indeed grow in grace and beauty, beloved by all who know her, but before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday, she will prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die !

- Oh no please! Queen Leah shouted, as she burst out crying. - Oh calm down, afterall I too have a heart...somewhere. Then Maleficent turned to the king: - What are you waiting for ? Kiss my boots !

The people looked at their king with those cold, prideful eyes that say "You can kill this baby, but our king would never do this, he would never kiss anyone's feet. Especially yours" King Stephan was royalty afterall how is he supposed to kiss anyone's feet. The queen begged him to kiss those boots. And so he did.

- Very well. The princess won't die but instead fall into a sleep, a deep, one hundred years sleep. Then the creature turned around and shouted:

- The princess can be awoken from her death sleep, but only by, true love's kiss. This curse will last 'till the end of time, no power on earth can change it !

King Stephan ordered his man to take every spinning wheel in the kingdom. The wheels were all broken and burned so they may never be used again, he gave his daughter to the fairies to hide her from the monster for sixteen years and a day. King Stephan shut himself in the castle while his men searched to hunt the fairy down.

The queen couldn't bare the fate of her new born and soon after the king gave their baby away, she died. The people all mourned over the loss of their beloved queen while Maleficent reveled in the sorrow that his curse have brought.

Chapter 2: Briar Rose

The fairies began their journey to raise Aurora in a snug little cottage deep into the woods, and what a journey this would be.

- Stop pushing me Flora, I'm going as fast as I can.

Merry – Weather yelled as she was carrying the baby, she was always so plumped like a ripe blue cherry.

- This is hopeless, we are too small we can't possibly take care of a baby, she is trice our size ! Flora said with a hint of nuisance in her voice. - You two, cease your eternal yaping and listen. The king gave us his baby, we are to care for it and cherish it and love it am I making myself clear !? - I didn't know Fauna was so bossy. Merry – Weather murmured, as Fauna was opening the door. - Orite everyone give me your wands. - What, why ? - You are not being serious girl ! - Your wands, now! - But why ? - From this day on we are no longer fairies, we are three women raising our orphan child.

And with one magic swoop Fauna transformed herself and her sisters into three grown women, no more wings, no more pixie dust coming out of them as they were flying around and no wands !

- We can't take care of the baby without magic ! - Are you trying to tell me that we are to take care of the baby and do all of the housework ? - Yes to both of you, we are to do all that without magic, or anyone's help for that matter. - She's lost it !

Flora said as she was still in shock over growing almost two metres in height. Fauna locked the wands in the closet and they began their normal, boring human lifes. The baby was growing like a weed, each year she became more beautiful and that beauty was only exceeded by the goodness of her heart. The fairies could not call her Aurora anymore so they came up with the name Rose, Briar Rose. It was going to be her birthday soon, her sixteenth birthday, the fairies knew it was time, time to give her up. After her birthday she would become princess Aurora again and return to the castle to live with her father and even marry a handsome prince, their Rose would be lost forever. But that was a problem of tomorrow, they still had her for two more days and all they could think about was her surprise birthday party.

- Flora, it's her birthday in just two days, we have to hurry. - I know, I know. I'll bake the cake and you clean up Merry – Weather. - Ok, then I will make her a dress. - You, sewing ! Both of them bursted out laughing. - Fine. I will cook, Merry – Weather will clean and Flaura will make the dress. - I can smell a disaster from here. Flora said to herself as she was getting the needles and the cloth. - Aunties, what are you doing? - Oh, Rose darling, I didn't expect you home so soon. We thought you were in the woods. - I was. I got all the herbs and berries you asked for. - All of them ? - Well...except Sage but.. - No buts missy, you march outside right now and get me that Sage. - Auntie Flora...

The door slammed behind Rose's back and it seemed that she was going in the woods to get that sage.

- That was some quick thinking there Flora. - I know Merry – Weather, you don't have to tell me. Now let's hurry up before she comes back.

Rose was all alone in the woods again, but she was not afraid, not at all, she loved the forest and all of the critters in it. They loved her as well, especially her singing.

- Oh I've met the man of my dreams, friends. He is strong, handsome, he sweeps me off my feet. I just know it in my heart that he is the one. We've met before, once, in a dream...

Rose started singing and the forest silenced, all of the forest animals gathered just to get a glimpse of her and to hear the maiden's voice.

Prince Phillip, the son of King Hewbert loved riding in the forest and since those were his father's woods he knew every single route, every stone and every creek in it. But he had no idea that in the abandoned cottage near the castle he would find the girl of his dreams.

- Slow down Samson, this is not a race.

The prince got off his faithful steed and went to the creek to fill his canteen with water, but just as he bent over he slipped on a rock and fell in the river. When he got out he stretched his clothes on a branch and sat on the cold ground, freezing and extremely naked, not that it was a bad sight, he had a nice little body on him, I mean he was a prince after all.

A little deeper in the woods, near the cottage our Rose was singing about her prince charming and dancing with the woodland critters. The hares saw something odd, clothes, human clothes but with no human in them just left on an old oaks branch, so naturally they took them. Luckily for our prince they didn't took his trousers, just his hat, boots and cloak, Phillip saw his clothes flying away and in the heat of the moment he chased them leaving his horse behind. As soon as he heard Rose's singing he stopped and crept in the underbrush. The boy peered through some leaves and saw the most beautiful girl he has ever seen, dancing with forest animals, in his clothes. He would be shocked by this sight, if he wasn't stunned by her divine beauty. While the girl was singing and dancing, he grabbed the animals, pushed them aside and stared dancing with her. She didn't notice anything at first, but when she felt a warm muscular body next to her, she started having her doubts about this whole situation. So she turned around and saw him, the man from her dreams.

- Oh my god ! - I'm so sorry miss, I didn't mean to scare you. - No, that...is...fine, It's just you are a... - Stranger ? - Yes, I.. - But we are not strangers. We've met before! - We have ? - Yes, once upon a dream. And then they danced and it felt like time had stopped, it was almost dark. - What is your name ? - My name, it is...I have to go. - But will I see you again? - Yes, tonight. - Tonight ? - Yes, tonight in the old cottage.

And in the that old, dusty but cosy cottage the three fairies were still preparing Rose's birthday party and unlike our prince this was not a pretty sight.

- Oh my god, why the hell this cake won't stay up !? - Calm down dear, you have to bake it first. - I have no idea what I'm doing, Fauna please give us our wands. - No wands!

Merry – Weather was getting really fed up, she waited for Fauna to go outside and broke the lock on the closet door to get the wands.

- What are you doing, if Fauna sees you she will have a hissy fit. - Merry – Weather, what in god's name are you doing, I said no wands!? - It's a disaster here girl, look around, we can't cook, we can't clean, we don't have the slightest idea how to sew. We are not normal people, therefor we can't do stuff that normal people do.

The cake looks like a swamp monser straight out of a child's nightmares, this so called dress is

is the ugliest thing in the history of ugly. And I can't clean. We need magic, we need this for her.

- Well, I guess you are right.

They took their wands, cast a little spell and voila. Just as they finished, Rose came back.

- Aunt Flora, Fauna, Merry – Weather. I'm home, I got the sage you wanted...Oh my what a beatiful dress. - Surprise, dear. All three of them shout out. - Oh my dear aunties, thank you so much. You wouldn't believe what happened to me. - Are you ok Rose? - Yes, yes I just met, him. - Who, dear? - The one from my dreams. Rose grabs her aunt Flora and starts dancing and humming her song. You will see him soon. - Him! Fauna is shocked and realises they have to tell her the truth. - Rose, wait we have to tell you something. You are engaged. - Engaged ? - Yes, at the day of your birth. Sit down Rose.

The fairies explain where she was born, that she is royalty and that her father King Stephan promised her to Hewbert's son.

- Tonight we will take you to your father. - But I can't, I promised him that I will be here. He will come tonight. - I'm sorry dear but you can never see that boy again!

Rose ran off to her room devastated, she felt that her heart shattered to a million little pieces. Little did they know, someone was watching, someone who has been looking for them for a long time.

Chapter 3: Unwavering truth

Evil had one name, and that name was Maleficent. No one knew who he was or where he came from, all that people knew was the fear and desperation he striked in their heart when they hear his name. Atop the Forbidden mountain in the highest tower of the castle Maleficent was... super pissed off. - It's incredible, sixteen years and not a trace of her. She couldn't have vanished into thin air. Are

you sure you searched everywhere?

Maleficent's subjects were dim-whitted but loyal, they knew better than anyone else not to cross or god forbid betray their master, because his punishment would be far worse than anything they could

possibly imagine.

- Yes, my lord we've searched everywhere! - You must have missed something – the mountains, the forest, the town. - We searched, mountains, forests, towns, oh and all the cradles! - Cradles....cradles...... Did you hear that my pet?

Maleficent turned around and a raven landed on his shoulder. That bird Diablo was the only one the evil fairy cared about, besides himself. The sorcerer screamed in an awe, as to show how amazed and utterly mortified he is by his minion's stupidity.

Sixteen years they were looking for a baby!

He bursted out laughing and crying. Emotions were overflowing. Even Maleficent didn't know he could feel all of this at once. All of the sudden his smile melted into tears and those tears awoke a rage, a rage stronger than the vengeful flames of a thousand suns.

FOOLS, IDIOTS, IMBECILES!!! Maleficent started shooting black lightning bolts from his scepter, killing most of his loyal subjects.

They are hopeless, a disgrace to the forces of evil! My pet you are my last hope. Search far and wide for a maid of sixteen with hair of sunshine gold and lips as red as a rose. Go and do not fail me!

Far away in King Hewbert's castle people were cheering, the prince will finally meet his princess. The kings were awaiting princess Aurora's arrival, thinking nothing could spoil this moment, apparently they forgot all about the curse, even the one who cast it upon her in the first place.

- My dear friend with all the dances and the feast we forgot one very important matter. - What's that my friend? - The children, Stephan, the children where will they live? - Well tey can live here! - What? - Yes. - NO. - The kids need their own space to raise their children! - Nonsense. - Let's leave it to kids, they can decide where to live. We have a much more important business to attend to! - Like? - Finishing this bottle of wine of course. - Of course!

Deep in the woods, in the small cottage the fairies were helping Rose to get dressed, she is to meet the kings and her soon to be husband. They had to hurry up, she wasn't sixteen yet so unlike her father, they were still worried about the curse. They left as soon as possible in the middle of the night hoping they weren't spotted, what they didn't know is that Diablo already found out where Aurora was hiding and so did his master. They arrived at Stephan's castle and showed Aurora to her room.

- I want to be alone, please. - But, dear. - Please auntie. - Let's go girls. If you need us we will be right outside the door.

Devistated and heartbroken Aurora started mewing on the floor. Meanwhile prince Phillip rushed back home from the trip looking for his father, he had to tell him the good news, that he found the one.

- Quick boy, put something descent on, you can't meet your future wife in this saggy old rags. - I already met her father. - You have, how, where? - From a dream.

The boy grabbed his father by the waist and started dancing with him humming Rose's song, it was more that obvious that he was head over heels in love.

- A dream? - Yes, but it wasn't a dream it was for real. - Really, you met Aurora? - No, she is just a peasant girl. - A what? - Yes, my future wife. - Oh you, always playing tricks on your old man. - Nope. - But, Phillip, I...you...you you can't marry a peasant girl, you are promised to Aurora. The king turns to the horse - Samson and asks him: - Is he for real? The horse doesn't answer, but the king realises, he is for real. - How could you do this to me, abandoning the throne, the kingdom!? - Oh c'mon father we live in a modern society! - I am still the king and I order you to.. - Goodbye father. Phillip jumps on his horse and rides off into the woods, to meet his beloved.

In the castle the princess sits on the bed, her face all puffed up from all the crying. She sees a green light beaming inside the fireplace. Mesmerised she starts walking towards it, the light moves slowly backwards and in between the bricks Aurora finds a hidden chamber leading her directly to the highest tower in the castle. She goes through a small wooden door and finds a spinning wheel in the room. The fairies here a strange sound coming from Aurora's place, curious they peek through the door and see that Rose is missing.

- Rose, Rose dear where are you? - Flora, I can't find her anywhere.

Merry – Weather finds her scarf stuck between the bricks and they all enter the chamber crying and

screaming her name. They run through the stairs and find the door just barely opened.

- Touch the spindle girl. - What is going on. Rose has no idea what's going on, she is still hypnotised by that unearthly glow. - Touch it I say!

Rose unable to resist, pricks her finge as the fairies enter the room. She falls on the ground almost deathlike.

Maleficent appears out of the darkness and says: - You fools, did you seriously think you could defeat me, the master of all evil! Here is you precious Briar Rose. He points at Rose's body, with a hysterical laugh slams his scepter on the ground and leaves in a haze of a black-green smoke. Meanwhile Hewbert has no idea how to break the news to Stephan that his son doesn't want Aurora, he wants his Briar Rose.

- Stephan, there is something important I have to tell you. - Not now Hewbert. - But it's about Phillip. The horn blows as the king's jester declares: - The sun is down, everyone greet your new princess !

Fireworks light the night sky, as the people cheer. Wine is pouring, and everyone is celebrating.

Meanwhile in the highest tower the fairies tend to their lost princess. - Poor King Stephan, his heart will be broken when he finds out. - Then he will not find out Flora ! - What do you mean ? - We will put a curse of our own, surrounding the entire castle. Everyone will fall asleep until the

kiss of true love wakes our Rose. - This is ridiculous. How are we suppose to make a curse, we are good ! - There is a first time for everything Merry – Weather. We will use all of our power if we have to.

The fairies gathered up all of their strength to make that curse, everyone fell asleep until Rose awakens. Flora heard someone nuzzling and it turned out it was King Hewbert, she went up to him, he looked at her with eyes half-closed and said:

- That boy of mine, always looking for trouble, why is he wasting his future for a peasant girl. - Peasant girl, what's her name, quickly, tell me ! - I don't know, they met in the woods near the old cottage. - The woods, the cottage, I'm so fucking stupid. Girls we are going back to the cottage now.

Phillip was so happy, he was going to meet that girl again. The prince arrived at the cottage and saw the door opened. He went in, everything was dark and all of the sudden the door slammed. A pair of hands grabbed him from behind, Phillip couldn't see anything, he only felt their grip tightening around his neck, before he lost consciousness he was able to glance at his attacker, all that he saw was an evil grin surrounded in a haze of a dark - green mist.

Phillip woke up several hours later only to find himself chained to a wall, he was lying on his back, his mouth clogged up with and old woolen cloth, eyes all tied up, he was in a dungeon, but who's? He felt helpless and confused. Suddenly a hand crept, moving slowly from his leg all the way up to his face.

- Oh would you look at that, we have a prince. Not a bad catch I'll say. Maleficent untied the cloth covering his eyes. My, I am getting awfully good at this, I was hoping to catch a peasant girl and instead, I got me a prince, but don't worry Diablo will keep you company. You must excuse me, I am really tired, ruining people's lifes will do that to you. Maleficent tousled his hair and left. - Hurry up girls, we must find the prince. - Calm down Merry – Weather, we will. - Oh no, Fauna look, his hat, Maleficent must have captured him. - But that means he is in the Forbidden mountain, Flora take the hat with you, we are going. - We can't go there Fauna it's suicide. - We can Flora, we can and we will.

The Forbidden mountain was a treacherous place to be. Rivers filled blood. The ground covered with bones and skulls and on top of that it was Maleficent's lair. Atop of the mountain was the sorcerer's castle guarded by horrific creatures accustomed to fairy flesh. But the worst was the the owner of this land, in the highest tower of the castle were Maleficent's chambers. They sneaked in, past the guards and just as they entered the castle they saw Maleficent coming from the dungeon. The fairies hid themselves pretty well, he didn't notice them, and even if he did, so what, he already won, the princess was struck by the curse and the prince was locked in his castle. All that was left was to gloat, he couldn't help but to smile a little and a smirk peeked through the corner of his mouth. The fairies saw the raven guarding Phillip, they knew they would be seen, all that was left was to make a run for it, Flora burst through the door and used her wand to burn the chains around the prince's arms.

- Who are you? - No time your majesty, we have to go now! This journey will be dangerous so take this sword and shield to protect you. Diablo started cawing, thus calling the guards. We have to go now!

They were running as fast as they can with guards right behind him. They threw bolders at them, but the fairies turned them into soap bubbles, they tried to shoot them with arrows but they turned those into flowers. They were going to escape. Panicked, Diablo tried to peck their eyes out, but Merry – Weather striked the raven with a spell, the bird fell on the ground, with a wing broken he started crying for his master. Maleficent woke up from all the commotion and saw his pet tossing and turning on the floor. Shocked, he picked his baby up, and saw the fairies and Phillip escaping.

He started shooting lightning bolts at them, but it was all for nothing they were too far away. So Maleficent cast a spell:

- The forest of thorns shall be his tomb, born through the skies in a fog of doom, now go with a curse and serve me well, 'round Stephan's castle cast my spell.

The spell brought a dark mist surrounding the castle and from that mist black thorns sprouted from the ground. Maleficent laughed at the prince's futile attempts to past through them. The fairies used their wands and spoiled Maleficent's plan again by burning the thorns that lead directly to the castle where Aurora was sleeping. Enraged the fairy vanished in a cloud of black smoke and appeared in front of the castle gate.

- Now you shall deal with me, my sweet prince and all the powers of Hell!

Thunder and lightning filled the sky, a mist of colors ranging from light to dark blinded Phillip and he fell of his horse. He couldn't believe his eyes Maleficent turned into a dragon. A fifty feet tall, fire breathing dragon with black metallic scales and a violet tip at the end. Maleficent's eyes turned scarlet red, you could see the flames of vengeance burning in those eyes, eyes filled with pain and desperation. The prince could barely stand on his feet, his skin scorched, his blood boiling. Maleficent's flames were melting his armor, even the shield given to him by the fairies broke in half from the intense flame. He saw a cliff and climbed in order to avoid the flames. The fairies tried to help him but Maleficent was too strong with one blow he took all three of them down. Fauna told Phillip to aim at his heart. The prince all burned up jumped at Maleficent and impaled him with his sword right through the heart. Maleficent screamed in agonizing pain and with his last breath he grabbed the prince by the cloak and both of them fell of the cliff. A haze of black and green smoke arose as they were falling. He woke up several minutes later on the ground, all bruised up, but alive, laying beside him was Maleficent's body with his sword still in the monster's chest. Black blood was oozing as the prince pulled out his glaive and started limping towards the castle to find his beloved. The fairies showed him the way to the princess and inside King Stephan's castle, he saw the jester sleeping or passed out drunk, one or the other, but he nuzzled something that Phillip couldn't quite understand, he only heard these words – brother, secret. Confused, he went up the stairs and saw the king's room wide opened, in it there was a small chest all locked up, he smashed the lock and inside it he found a picture of a little girl, King Stephan and a boy unfamiliar to him. He asked the fairies about the picture and they told him that King Stephan had a boy, he was Aurora's brother – Eric whom the king abandoned, when he was only twelve due to his deviation. He asked them where is he now, but the fairies told him it would be better if he didn't know the whole story. Phillip even more confused, now more then ever demanded the truth. The fairies said it would break his heart if he knew what he had done. The prince looked at the picture once more and saw a locket with a moon symbol that resembles that of his beloved, which has a sun on it. He could not believe his eyes, his hands started trembling, his vision became hazy. He ran out of the castle and went back to Maleficent's body, he tore his shirt and found the moon locket on Maleficent's chest. Phillip fell to his knees, confused, sad, in pain he just stood there looking at the dead brother's body, the brother that he had killed, the brother that put a curse on a baby, the one who almost killed him. Phillip picked him up and carried him into the woods. The fairies begged for his forgiveness, since they were sworn to secrecy they couldn't say a word. The prince carried him across the woods all the way back to the Forbidden mountain, since Maleficent was gone so was the curse of this place, no minions, no rivers of blood it was just a wasteland with an abandoned castle and a lonely Diablo limping and still searching for his master. Phillip left the body in the tower and as he was leaving he saw the raven, next to Maleficent, cawing and mourning over the death of his master. The prince returned to the castle and kissed Aurora thus waking her up and breaking the curse. They both smiled and embraced each other. Phillip showed King Stephan the picture of Aurora and Eric, Stephan started crying like a baby. The king couldn't live with this guilt anymore so he abdicated his throne and begged both Phillip and Aurora for forgiveness. Flora, Fauna and Merry – Weather gave up their wings and lived the rest of their lifes as servants in the castle taking care of the new royal family. Many months later King Phillip and Queen Aurora had a baby, Erica she was called and she was destined to be the most powerful sorceress that the world has ever seen, her rule brought many years of happiness and prosperity throughout the lands.

And how do I know all of this, even though I died. Well I'll just leave that for another story.

Changes to the original story

1. Gender – In the original, Maleficent is female. The gender was changed due to my desire to show the love that Maleficent might still have despite being ''The master of all evil'' for his little sister, which is shown in the beginning when the evil fairy is weakening his own dark curse.

2. Death – In the original story the queen lives but I changed that, since I wanted to increase the drama in the whole story. Also the way Maleficent dies is different again for the same reason.

3. Kindness – In the original story Maleficent curses the baby to die and leaves it there. Here I added the queen begging Maleficent to spare her baby to show how strong a mother's love can be. Maleicent feels sorry for the queen so he weakens and even leaves a loop hole in his curse, thus showing the character is not all that evil. The character of Maleficent here can be considered as an anti-villan and not as a full pledged villain.

4. Wickedness – In this story King Stephan abandoned his son. In the original Stephan is all good. I add the abandonment story line to show the duality of the character, making him not all that good, but more of a complex character with a hint of wickedness.

5. Time – In the original story Maleficent curses the baby on her first day, here however Aurora is cursed on the christening which happens a year after her birth. I added that extra year since I wanted Maleficent to have more time to plan his attack.

6. Narrator – You could find out who the narrator is simply by paying attention to how the story is written. Only Maleficent's and the narrator's lines were not written in italic, thus giving the reader a hint that they are the same person.

7. Sexuality – In the original story the character of Maleficent has no sexual desires or sexuality in general, I assume that is used to highlight the character's evil nature. In this version however Maleficent has a sexual nature outside of the social norm. I used that as a way to increase the character's immorality due to the fact that the story is happening in medieval times which has a strong influence from the Catholic church, and according to the churche's teachings all sexual behaviour outside the norm of male-female interaction is considered deviant and shameful. Which is why I underlined that word in the text, giving the reader something to think about. The same goes for the words pain and desperation at the end of the story. They are explaining how Maleficent felt during all those years when he was banished and could also refer to his sexuality, all of that is left for the reader to figure out/decide. The character's sexual depravity is also highlighted on two other places: in the beginning when King Stephan calls Maleficent ''unholy filth'' referring to the character's sexuality and when the evil fairy captures prince Phillip.

8. Gift – In the original, Merry – Weather could not give her a gift because she was interrupted by Maleficent and she was forced to use her power to weaken the curse. Here Merry – Weather gives her the gift of happiness due to fact that Maleficent weakens the curse himself. I did that to show Maleficent'snature.

9. Humour – In the original there is almost zero to nun humoristic element. In this version I added several because I didn't wanted the story to be too serious because it might turn out dull and boring

10. Profanity – Since the original version is a fairy tale, there is no profanity but I added a little bit of this element, because my story is targeted for mature audience.
